You're welcome! Praise the Lord for His touch of healing in that Sunday School teacher's life.

Jesus tells us in John 10:10 that the thief, or the devil, only comes to steal, kill and destroy. Since he is the originator of sickness through that initial sin in the garden of Eden, he is always looking for a way to get into our lives to perform his ultimate plan to destroy the believer however he may get it done. Unfortunately, we sometimes help him achieve his plan through our opening the door by not taking care of our bodies. So, yes, the person can have a re-occurrence of that illness if they don't take the proper care of their body. Another door opener for illness is personal sin and unforgiveness in the life of the believer. Even science has determined that many times arthritis is the result of unforgiveness in a person's life. In Matthew 18:21-35 Jesus tells the parable about the unforgiving servant. In verse 34 we see that he was delivered over to the torturers which I believe are the illnesses that our bodies experience because of the spirit of unforgiveness in the life of a believer. So there are several ways that the devil's package of sickness and disease can be delivered to a believer. It is our job to do our best to make sure there are no open doors by which he can get in.

You are not making a pest of yourself. However, I will address the subject of "prosperity" at another time. Prosperity is so much more than the monetary connotation that most people give it. It is a completeness in body, soul and spirit; peace in every area of our lives meaning nothing missing, nothing broken and nothing lacking. That's God's kingdom economy lived to the fullest!

Blessings!

Thank you for that very Biblical answer. I know this is an area that I need to let sink in deeper.
I remember as a freshman in college praying for a Sunday School teacher who was not given time to live by the physicians. I poured my heart out to God for her and believed she would be okay. My mom called me back I believe on the next day to tell me of her miraculous recovery.
Avanell, when someone is healed, do they ever have that same problem to come back again?

I hope I am not making a pest out of myself, but I really would like to know what you think.

One day I would like to hear you address the topic on "prosperity" for Christians as well. That will be for another time.

You are a real dear to spend time answering my concerns.
Appreciate you sister,
Hope

Hi Hope. Thank you for your comment. I think our mindset and what we have been taught about healing often determines how we view God's power and will to heal. We often judge God's word based on our experiences rather than our experiences being judged by God's word. Because of our thinking that something has to take us out of this life we condition ourselves to receive sickness as that means of changing residences from here into eternity, but there are several in the Bible that we can see who simply gave up the ghost, or their spirit, and went into eternity. If God created us by breathing into us the breath of life then He doesn't need sickness to take us out of this world. He simply needs to say, "come up, hither" and we will go.

The word has a lot to say about healing and without going into an exhaustive study I can say that it does teach that healing is a part of a believer's covenant benefits. Likewise we can know from a review of the way life was before the fall of man in the garden of Eden that sickness was brought into existence through that sin. There was no sickness and disease before that time; neither in heaven nor on earth. We see in the study of Isaiah 53 that Jesus took stripes upon His back to purchase our healing as a part of our redemption. We are also given an example of God's will for healing in the life of Jesus as He went about teaching, preaching and healing. Acts 10:38 says "how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him." John 5:19 says that Jesus Himself said He could do nothing of Himself, "but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner." So we know that when Jesus healed people it was because He saw His Father doing that and He followed suit. So it definitely is God's will to heal.

So why isn't every sick person who asks for healing healed? Well, that's a complex question. But there again we can't judge the word by our experiences; we must judge our experiences by the word of God. So many times when looking at the records from God's word regarding those who were healed we see that Jesus Himself stated that it was by faith that they were healed. We know that God's grace provides the healing and faith accesses God's grace. It's not always the faith of the sick person that is the vehicle by which they receive their healing and I would never tell a sick person who wanted to be healed and wasn't that it was because of their lack of faith that they did not receive the healing. That's insensitive and simply not correct. Because at least one time recorded in the word of God it was the faith of the friends of a sick person that drew the healing power of God to the sick one. And at other times it could be that the gifts of healing were in operation that provided the healing of a sick person. And we know by God's provision in the physician Luke, who was one of His disciples that He has provided medical treatment as a way to receive healing. However I do believe that faith, when strengthened, makes it more possible for people to believe God for the miraculous.

Paul tells Timothy in 1 Timothy 6:12 that he is to "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life", so I believe that as with any other provision that God has made available to us, whether it is for forgiveness of sin, financial provision or for healing that we do have to exercise an element of faith to receive from Him. Hebrews 11:6 says that it is impossible to please God without faith and goes on to qualify that reason being that we must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. If we are not diligently seeking Him for something then we would not be able to receive from Him that which we need. If we don't believe that He is the Healer then we wouldn't seek Him for healing, we would simply allow sickness to overtake us and be the vehicle by which we move from this life to the next.

Looks like this turned into more of a teaching than what I intended, even though it's not complete by any means. I hope it has given you a little bit of an understanding of my viewpoint based on what I know from God's word about healing.

God bless! emoticon

I truly believe God heals us through the many sicknesses we have in this life. Nothing is beyond his power.
Avanell, I heard my wonderful Christian mother say that something has to take us out of this world. Do you think God allows at some point in our lives to be taken out by illness regardless of our faith? I am just wondering? I have seen two people in church have members to gather around them to pray for healing, but it never happened. However, I heard the pastor say that now in Heaven, the prayer of complete healing is now theirs. This is not to doubt at all that God cannot heal here and now, for I know he has me many times. I would appreciate any further wisdom you wish to share on this. Thank you in advance.

Hope

Yes, that's true. James said we must be a doer of the word and not a hearer only. When we hear God say something to us whether it's to seek Him about the solution to our problem or in putting into practice what He has already told us we still have to do it! He is faithful to do His part, but the question always is, will we do ours?

Yes God gave me the way of escape! I am so thankful. One thing I learned from this was that although He had a way of escape for me, I had to CHOOSE to seek that way. When I chose to turn on my radio for inspiration, God had the word I needed. Then He gave me the grace to follow through. Isn't He a great God? I pray every temptation ends like that one :-).

James says in James 1:14 that a person is tempted when he/she is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. God will always make the way of escape but it's our choice to take it or not. You did well! Congratulations! You took the way of escape.

This conversation is inspiring me! My flesh was crying out for quick relief from hunger at 9pm last night. As I was driving home from a hospital visit, I was hungry and tempted to grab fast food on the way home, instead of waiting to eat nutritionally from my own refrigerator. So, after several minutes of idea after idea being presented to me to pull over, here or there, for junk food, by the grace of our living Lord, instead, I tuned into our Christian talk radio station! Hallelujah! God provided my way of escape. There was a pastor speaking on temptation! He read from Webster's, the definition of temptation which I am including here: Temptation is the desire to perform an action that one may enjoy immediately or in the short term, but will probably later regret for various reasons; including feeling guilt and health-related consequences. Temptation is the inclination to sin. Temptation also describes the coaxing or inducing a person into committing such an act, by manipulation or otherwise of curiosity, desire or fear of loss.

This was the wisdom I needed to hear that snapped me out of the flesh and back into the Spirit of Christ who wants to live His life through me! I had the needed grace to make it home and eat something healthy from my storehouse. I pray we can all be delivered moment by moment from the temptation to meet our own needs with our own knowledge of good and evil. I have no such knowledge. You are right, apart from Christ I can do nothing good!

Amen! I am reminded of Galatians 5:16 that says if I walk in the Spirit I will not fulfill the lust of the flesh because the two are at odds with each other. But if I am led by the Spirit then I'm not under the law. That's the same thing to me as what you are saying about Galatians 2:20. It is as I yield to His Spirit within me that I can live above the desires that my flesh has. It is through the crucifixion of Jesus that I am able to live above those fleshly desires and then as I yield to His Spirit to do the work through me I achieve the victory....by faith!

Glory to God! It is because of Jesus that I can live victoriously! Apart from Him I can do nothing!

Amen sister! I am forever grateful to be free from the law of sin and death -- a performer of the law. I love Gal 2:20 it is no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me. Daily I depend on that truth. Apart from His life, I can do nothing! When I forget who I am, and try to live from my former flesh, I fail--at weight loss, at loving my neighbor, at being obedient from the heart. When I die to selfish motives, Christ can then break through and bring the victory. I pray each one on this team experiences a powerful testimony from renewed rest in Christ's finished work and each of us see victory daily as we trust Christ to live His life through us for His glory!

Thank you, Leeanna, for such an insightful comment!

Yes, Jesus became a curse for us that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Galatians 3:24 says that the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. Faith receives what God did for us instead of working to try to achieve our righteousness. That is often misunderstood because people feel they have to DO something to be acceptable to God. All they need to do is receive and BE the righteousness that He has made available to them through His blood and body that was broken for them. We are human BEINGS not human DOINGS!

I loved this message!!

So he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there He tested them, and said, "If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you."

It quickly reminded me of these Scriptures:

Galatians 4:4-5 But when the set time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman,
Born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.

Galatians 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree".

Colossians 2:14-15 He cancelled our debt, moved it out of the way, nailed it to the cross (tree), disarmed the rulers and authorities, made a public display of them, and triumphed over them through Him.

John 19:30 It is finished!

Romans 8:1 There is therefore, now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus, has set us free from the law of sin and death.

Praise God, Jesus became our substitute on the cross and literally fulfilled the requirement of the law for you and me. When Christ died to the law, so did we. (Gal 2:19-20, Colossians 2:20, Colossians 3:3, 2 Timothy 2:11). Someone once asked me if they don't give a tithe according to Malachi, are they under a curse? Since Christ fulfilled the law and we have received his gift of grace, with all the benefits of salvation, including the release from the curse of sin and death, we are no longer under law but grace (see Romans 1-8). This does not mean the law was bad or that we should teach people to break the law! On the contrary, the new law of the spirit goes much farther than the law of Moses in doing right! According to the New Covenant, we are not required to live up to a set law on giving a certain tithe, but we are to give according to our ability (2 Corinthians 8:12-14) and to give generously from the heart! It appeared the New Covenant believers gave over and above the 10% requirement of the law and instead, gave liberally from a heart of love and with thanksgiving. The law has boundaries. Love knows no boundaries.

Oh how grateful I am that Christ has redeemed me from the law and nailed all my sins to the tree. He has cast those sins, past, present, and future, into the sea of forgetfulness and He remembers them no more! For that I live grateful and mindful.

Because Christ hung on the tree, He took my infirmities, and He bore my sicknesses (Matthew 8:16-17)! Mark 16:17-18 says, "They shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover"! I am so glad for those in the Body who have the "gifts of healing" (1 Corinthians 12:9),
And that the sick can call on the elders of the church to anoint them with oil, and pray the prayer of faith over them, and they will be healed!

This is the commandment or the work of service the Father asks of us: (John 6:29) that we believe in the One Whom He has sent (that we cleave to, trust in, rely on, and have faith in His Messenger--His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ). Now it is for us to walk in the Truth we have been given and live an obedient life of freedom in Christ. Praise God for His indescribable Gift--His Son, Christ Jesus our LORD!

Yes, Deb, that's so true! Thanks for sharing your story with us. I know where faith is concerned for health we have to start out small, such as believing for healing for a headache, before we can stand in faith believing for healing from a serious medical condition. Faith grows as we hear and apply the word of God to our lives!

Praise The Lord for HIS Covenant of Health! HIS Health PLAN Is The BEST Plan!

I remember in 8th or 9th grade reading through the Bible. I was having severe menstrual cramps that used to keep me out of school for days. One day I was reading the Scripture in James 5:14,15 and it dawned on me that I didn't have to be in pain. No elders were around so I laid hands on myself. I believed The Word I read. Even with little training in Faith. I had Faith to be Born Again in 5th grade and as I matured and went to a Baptist Church on the bus I yearned for The Word. So very important to KEEP His Promises before our eyes and our young people's eyes as well. Faith COMES by Hearing and HEARING some more!

He has freed me He has freed everyone who comes to the cross from the bondage of sickness, disease, illness, infirmities, aches, pains, poverty, lack, want, need because of His shed blood and this was done to buy us back from the curse of the Law the Ten Commandments as we are now under the new, better and ever lasting covenant of life ever lasting in Jesus.

we are now able to walk and live while on this earth in His super natural health and healing that He has provided for each and everyone of us in the name of Jesus and sealed in the blood of the Lamb.

God began way back in the Old Testament lining out the covenant of health that He meant for His children to have. One of the Old Testament scriptures that foretold of it was in Exodus 15, 25, 26:

So he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there He tested them, and said, "If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you."

There are four things here that we can do to cooperate with God's covenant of healing for our physical bodies:
1) diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God
2) do what is right in His sight
3) give ear to His commandments
4) keep all His statutes

Illness is a by-product of sin. There was no illness in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve didn't have to deal with sickness and disease until after the Fall of man. Once sin was introduced into man's bloodline death ensued. Likewise sin carries a price and death is the result.

As we progress through this we will see how Jesus took stripes upon His back that we might have healing in our bodies and our covenant of health is a part of redemption. Jesus is the Lord who heals us! But as you can see from the above scripture we have a part to play in working with Him to bringing that healing into manifestation.
