I use Hammer Nutrition products because they are the only ones that have no HFCS!!! In a pinch I will use Clif products because they are 70% organic!!! I was told eating real food for your long runs could be problematic as your body is using energy for digestions and not running!!!

Best of luck!!!

I don't run but I sure enjoyed the thread until you explained what LSD was. I had to check and make sure it wasn't on my 50's and over team.

Hi!!!! I understand what you mean by unclean re-fuelling, but ALL my great runs happen when I use this stuff, so I just can't knock it.

I believe most people find what works best for them through trial and error. Sweet potatoes work for me too. White potatoes just makes me gassy:)
Pasta, always works for me too.
I get 100% whole wheat pasta from either the grocery store or speciality stores.

I try to eat alot of wild salmon,as it's properties are great for the joints.
I also take a glucosimine supplement(don't know if it works)but I have no joint pain.

Most of my food is clean, it's just my re-fuelling choices that's not....sigh....but I guess I can't have it all.
Oh,,,Hammer products are not available in Nova Scotia, so no luck there.

Good luck with your training!!!

Didi

I am by no means a runner but I recently completed my first 5K (having never been a runner or even an athlete this was a HUGE accomplishment for me). While I was training, quite by accident I found out that if I eat a sweet potato the night before I have a GREAT run the next morning. I can't explain why but it worked beautifully for me. Just something to add to the mix in this discussion

I don't remember where I read this exactly but I'm pretty sure it was a thread on here but Hammer Nutrition makes fairly clean gels, etc for use during endurance events. I haven't tried any of the products myself seeing as a 5K is hardly an endurance event but I will be training for a triathlon early next year and plan to try them then. I hope that helps.

Hi all!

Didi, Those are great examples for pre-run meal and night before meal. My first "long" run (6 miles for me) I just took water w/me. My second LSD (7 miles) I took 1/4 of a nutrigrain bar at 4 miles with 6 oz water. My third LSD (8 miles) - yesterday - I had about 10 grapes + 1/2 Tbsp of natural peanut butter 60 minutes before my run. 30 min. into my run I took 2 'sport jelly beans'. 1 hour into the run I took about a half shot of Power Bar gel. I felt great the entire run - I also had about 4 oz of water at 4 and 6 miles. My best and longest run yet since I started training. I'm slow but this time I was steady - consistent the entire run ( had 2 - 1 minute walk breaks). So the re-fueling during my run was definitely not clean but I felt really good during and after. Tired but strong.

Where do you get your whole wheat pasta? What does the Linseed help with?
Any suggestions for joints?

Hi !!!1 This morning I eat Linseed and Rye bread with Almond butter and honey before my LSD

Last night I had whole wheat fetticine with diced chicken and vegetables with a tomatoe sauce.

I'm also in training for a Half in January and got most all my eating as clean as possible. I'm still having a problem with fuelling on the road as GU gels and Shot Blocs are definately not clean BUT highly effective!!!!

What's your fuelling choices on the road are they clean??Or are you willing to make the compromise like I do to get the miles done.

That's good to know. I thought someone was actually talking about the 70's popular drug.

Oh, I never would have guessed that's what LSD stood for. Thank you for clearing that up for us, I was realy racking my brain.
That's hard for me cause my brain can't handle that

Oooops. Sorry team. Long Slow Distance - LSD ... my long run of the week. It's at a slower pace than a shorter run would be.

I don't eat late at night. My last meal is 7 p.m. at the very lastest. My weight loss is slowing down because I'm taking in more carbs 2.5 days before my Long Run.

Hope that clears up the confusion.

I am pretty sure the HM stands for Half Marathon but I am not sure what the LSD stands for either.

My long term goal is fat loss but now that I'm running longer distances (training for a HM in Jan.), I need more carbs at night and at my pre-run meal. What are you all doing to stay clean?
