I know many people are opposed to taking medications while eating clean, but I have found that the only thing that helps my headaches lately is Goody's Extra Strength Headache Powders.

They have been a life-saver for me!

I just found this thread as someone gave me the link as I posted about headaches. I may have to buy a juicer and try the green apple and celery. Maybe a trip to find the chlorella and ginger too. I am unable to take any kind of NSAIDs (Motrin, Advil, etc) or traditional migraine meds like Topamax as they all interfere with one of my meds. A few years back I was given Darvocet for my headaches, but I really don't want to take those or I am sure my workouts will suffer - they make me REAL groggy. I haven't had a headache like this one in 3 YEARS! I started eating clean and now I have had a headache non-stop for 1 1/2 weeks! I currently drink plenty of water and only have 1 cup of caffine (black tea) per day - and have. So I am ready to try just about anything non-narcotic.

MARGARIRI, I too used to suffer from headaches on almost a daily basis sometimes. I would get migraines frequently as well. I thought because my dad got them it was something I just had to live with. But since eating pretty "clean", working out, drinking my daily water allotments, and in general balancing my food nutrients, I no longer get headaches so frequently. I have been keep track of them and I only seem to get them at the TOM these days and not always at that time. It truly is miraculous! I feel so free!!! I am a vegetarian but I do eat cheese (I know some migraine sufferers get migraines from eating cheese), I don't drink coffee or soda (no caffeine- again can cause migraines in some folks), I don't use things like splenda, cool-whip, 100 calorie packs - basically very little processed food.

I hope you, too find a way to reduce the headaches, life is so much better for me now!

I've never tried it in a blender but a juicer would take the fiber out. I think if I were to try it in a blender I would just add green apple and celery to a blend of other fruits and etc and turn it into a smoothie.

I don't think I ate all that much sugar before starting to EC, so I chalked my "getting started" headache up to SPLENDA! One of the first changes to my diet was to quit putting it in my coffee.

I'm so grateful to hear about some of these natural headache remedies since I get them with varying frequency and intensity myself. I might just be in the healthfood store today looking for chorella and ginger...How much of each do you take?

I don't have a juicer, would a blender work for the celery and apples (or will the celery "strings" get wrapped around the blades?)

I have used the apple celery juice, both on myself and on friends, and it works.

DH says he has used chlorella and ginger both to relieve migraines with success.

Good Luck!

I am intrigued by these suggestions because my husband suffers from cluster migraines (which are nicknamed 'suicide headaches' for a reason). Zomig and large amounts of water are the only things that have helped so far -- haven't tried oxygen yet. Previous posters, have you tried the apple/celery juice or the chlorella and ginger pills for migraines? I am wondering if we shouldn't have these things on hand -- thanks.

I know this one sounds hokey but it actually works for my more mild headaches and even relieves somewhat the more severe ones. Juice one green apple with a few stalks of celery and drink up. The headache will be gone before you finish the glass.

It has to be green apples though.

My DH has helped me to eat clean and to stop taking meds, even OTC. Last time I had a headache, he sugested I take some chlorella and ginger (both supplements in tablet form), and it took care of my headache really fast. It's natural, so it's clean. You could find it at a health food store.

I do remember having bad headaches when I first started Clean Eating. I think it was my body going through WITHDRAWL from the junk - like diet pop etc. I DRINK LOTS of WATER!!! It maybe protein too.... a spoon full of natural peanut butter helped. BUT NUMBER ONE is if it doesn't stop you might want to consult a doctor for advice. ;-) Best Wishes.....

When you say you are looking for suggestions on how to get rid of the headache, are you looking for non pill solutions are do you take over the counter pills?

And secondly, where does your head hurt? I am, unfortunately, all too familiar with headaches. I used to get them almost daily. They were a result from stress, poor diet, and/or over exertion, to name a few causes. I am a migraine sufferer, too. Some weeks I would get 2 or 3! And some migraines would last for over 2 days! But since I've joined SP and have been eating well and exercising my headache frequency is way down! I used to take advil, and then I found migraine excedrin which is the only thing that'll touch a migraine (I have intense pain over my left eye and my vision can start to go). Also just extra strength excedrin helps me. But when I have a migraine sometimes the only thing that'll help is sleep (after throwing up from the pain)

Are you sure the headache is from eating clean? Do you normally drink caffeine and are now obstaining so it is a caffeine headache?

Or is it an over exertion headache?

I am guessing it is not hydration induced since you are probably drinking your water. But it probably can't hurt to drink some more.

I have found that a neck massage can also really help. Maybe take a soothing bath? Or some breathing exercises? Yoga?

I feel for you! I hope your headache goes away soon!!

Hi, I am on day 2. I have a terrible headache that started last night. It is not abnormal for me to get a headache when I stop eating sugary junk. I have been eating plenty of fruit and veggies and making sure I get my protein.

I have also exercised but my headache has remained.

It is not fun dealing when a headache when I am trying to be healthy by clean eating. Honestly it makes me want to cave in and eat junk which is what I have done in the past.

Anyone else suffer from headaches when they start to eat clean? Any suggestions on how to get rid of it?!

Thanks for any replies!
