Thanks Melinda! emoticon

I started clean eating when we were living in Ohio. They had an AWESOME organic market there with not just canned and frozen organic foods, but bulk organic sugars, grains, spices, teas...a fresh fish market with healthy fish and those that weren't on the endangered list, a meat market with only antibiotic free, grass fed type beef, poultry and pork. They also had a fresh organic salad veggie bar with soup to take for lunch as well as cakes and cookies made from organic products that were also gluten free as well as a prepared meat, cheese, and salad deli to take home healthy prepared meals. I loved their restaurant on top of the market as well. Oh and the VITAMIN and Health section was TO DIE FOR. Everything was Organic or close to it. Herbs, tinctures and vitamins were made from the highest of pressed/freezedried type herbs and they always had someone in the area to give you advice and help. Thats where I got my regular vitamins from. I miss that store. www.mustardseedmarket.com

Since moving to central NY I'm limited believe it or not and have a ways to travel for organic...but we still get local farm fresh type veggies and fruits.

I've been eating clean ever since. I make my own breads from whole wheat and use only honey and products from Bobs Redmill which is healthy.

I've added fish twice a week, cut out red meat altogether, each chicken which I cut in half to portion and exercise everyday.

My only holdup is what I think is the thyroid which is making me extremely tired, lethargic and could be the reason I'm not seeing any headway.

I'm just SO Glad you all spoke of the Chromium. I can't believe I forgot about. The last time I had it was when I bought it from the market in Ohio. Otherwise I've had my multivitamin and my vitamin d along with Fish Oil and coq10.

I totally appreciate you all. What a blessing this site has turned out to be. Even when I feel my weightloss is slow, I still feel encouraged enough to keep fighting.

Gem,
I so empathize with you. I look at that pretty piece of carrot cake and I know right where it will be.

When I first went on Metformin, I lost weight and felt like finally, finally I'll get the weight off. About 6 months in, the weightloss slowed and then finally stopped. I didn't change anything.

So far I have eliminated white sugar and flour from the diet. No HFCS (boy does that hide in some weird places). Only complex carbohydrates and most of that has to be high fiber. Lots of fruits and veggies. Feeling satieted better and not gaining anything.

Now increasing the exercise more. I agree with the weighing. I don't usually do it each week. I hate it when the numbers don't change or go up. Focus on the food and exercise. It should help some.

Good Luck
Melinda

ETERNALMOTHER

It has been REALLY hard. I lost weight pretty quickly last year. I can't understand how I've gained so much when I'm working MUCH harder and watching what I eat.

I was so pissed yesterday that while everyone was eating my favorite fried fish the day before and I have been eating steamed, broiled, baked, etc for quite awhile now....that after yet another month of NOTHING...I said, why bother and had fish fry and french fries. Of course I cried afterwards because it didn't taste good to me anymore and I added TONS of fat and calories because I was rebelling. Didn't hurt anything or anyone but myself and my health.

Anyways, back on track today. I'm just struggling with the scale. I'm thinking I have to STOP weighing myself for awhile until I start to feel loose clothing THEN start weighing. I think all weighing is doing is sabbotaging me. I'm focusing WAY too much on the numbers instead of the overall health and BIG picture in the future.

Thing that ticks me off about PCOS and insulin resistance/hypothyroid is that it takes us even longer to lose because of our sluggish metabolisms. It really is a pain in the butt.

I have read a lot of good things about Chromium, but I tried it a couple of years ago and had some issues. I also PCOS and have to be careful of low blood sugar. I took Chromium for a couple of days and then my blood sugar dropped so rapidly one day before lunch that I almost passed out.

Not saying that would happen to most people but I would start out at a lower dose and build up gradually just to make sure.

Hi SARIESARA,

Wheat Germ from Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheat_germ

Personally, I use it as well as those on here do. Its simple to use & find, i find my container in my local grossery store in where they keep all the hot oatmeal/cereal section.

I keep an empty Parmagion cheese container filled with a mixture of wheat germ & ground flax seed--put in & on anything i can think of: breakfast cereals, smoothies, oatmeal, applesauce, yogurt etc.

In my house we use it like a crunchy topping, as a matter of fact, both my kids would DEMAND their "crunchies" when eating applesauce as little ones & my 14 yr DS still eats his applesauce this way

emoticon

My daughter is 50-50 {ya gotta remind her or she wont put it on} but she loves soy milk & her bro wont touch it for anything LOL.

HTH & others will prolly chime in

THANK YOU, thank You, Thank You!!

I am insulin resistant/type II diabetic with PCOS. I have been busting my butt exercising and eating clean. I have actually gained weight. I'm going to have my thyroid meds tweaked...but you have reminded me that I have stopped taking my chromium. I'm wondering if that is why I lost 15lbs last year and gained back that and then some.

Now I have to run out and grab it. I also take Magnesium at night. apparently chromium and magnesium work well together.

Chromium should always be taken during the day because it raises the metabolism and magnesium during the night with calcium because magnesium has a sleepy effect and the calcium has to be taken with it for a variety of reasons but constipation from magnesium alone is the main reason.

Thanks for the lightbulb that just went on in my head as the slight cause to my inability to lose.

I used to take closer to 800 mcg. That was about 4 years ago and I never had any of those reactions.

I will bump tomorrow. Keep you all posted.

Sounds good, let us know if it seems to help once you bump it.

My daily vitamin does contain 120 mcg in it of chromium. But the tabs i just bought are 800 mcg.

At first that seemed like it would be to much, but as i read on, some sites say 200 mcg is recommended, and others say up to 1,000. So going to read a little more. But i also read that people who took excessive amounts, started to have adverse effects.. here is an article from the FDA of people who took a product that had in the excess of 3,000 mcg (now who would take that much!!)

I have taken both. I don't think there is much difference between them though when I had a personal trainer he told me to take the one I am now.

When I first started it, long ago, I did see and feel a difference. I also think I was taking more. I am going to up what I am taking now to 400 mcg (1 in the morning and 1 at night). I'll keep you posted if I notice a difference. I do notice now that I can eat whole grain carbs and not gain weight. It used to be all carbs went straight to butt or belly.

I am not diabetic but do have insulin resistance. I do notice more with the chromium and metformin my insulin levels seem more normal.

I have been taking 200 mcg for years. I take chromium polynicotinate (more for insulin function). The site is referring to chromium picolinate (more for metabolic function). You can find it just about anywhere now.

I found chromium at Walmart, for 100 tabs 800 mcg's it was about 8 dollars. On the bottle it actually says "For metabolic health"

Just type it into the search bar, lots of research and info comes back about it.

Thank you for sharing.. I might check out wheat germ which was mentioned on that sight.. does anybody else know anything else about it? as far as benefits/disadvantages, and where I can purchase it? and exactly what it is?

I have taken 800mg daily for 5 or more years now.. I had a good friend who's mother was borderline diabetic and she started taking it, lost some weight and is now diabetes free.. it helps if you have sugar cravings too.

I have started back here in Feb 2012 after putting some weight back on. I lost 114lbs here previously and I now know I need this community and the food tracker to keep me in check.

Have been reading and researching about chromium, and thought I would share some of what I have found... worth looking into. I bought some of the supplement today, and am going to incorporate it into my daily vitamins.
