CHP!! You made my day. The big 4-0 has been a bit of a downer to me, but I am coming to realize that you can look great at any age if you take fitness and nutrition seriously.

I'll step a little further away from the mirror in the future. Thanks for the reminder!!!

We're too hard on ourselves. I didn't think I was pretty enough, thin enough, etc when I was young. It took me to 30 to realize that I was beautiful. I wasted my youth thinking that no one wanted me.

I'm sure your friend probably think that your body is so much better than theirs. You look great. You're gorgeous as you are. Many very thin women have a little fat in the midriff. You have to accept what you see as flaws in your body and go on. Even runway models have a small amount of fat on them. It's part of being human. Shed all the visible fat on your body and you won't look good, you'll look sickly.

Alison-

I agree, kids bring a whole new meaning to the pooch. I am in my 20's, but I still know what its like. My daughter is three years old and stomach is still not like it was pre-baby. I was about to accept that it would always be that way, but now I'm here and determined to get lean!

Crazilittled,

Take a good look in the mirror honey. You look fantastic!!! Remember, you are 22, and you are healthy and look great. Don't obsess about what only you and no-one else can see. Enjoy what you have and live life to the fullest.

Trust me, when you're 40 and have 2 kids liek me, you can finally understand what "the pooch" is!!!!

All of you can get your abs back with fairly strict nutrition and just plain getting the extra fat layers off. You do not need to train abs everyday and really shouldn't - they need rest just like every muscle group does. Doing tons of ab exercises is not necessary and it will not get you there any faster - it is the fat loss that needs to happen, not overtraining your abs.

You will get there!!!

right after i do intense ab work the pooch doesn't look as bad either! this is good and bad- good b/c i like how it looks but bad b/c i've been training my abs almost every day to get that look and i read you're not supposed to train any body part, including the abs, every single day..

i'm 22 i haven't had a baby and my metabolism should be in it's prime shouldn't it?..i don't know the excuse or reasoning behind my pooch i just want it gone lol emoticon

Sometimes, I look at how big my pooch just below my belly button is a fear that I'll need to lose 20 pounds to get rid of it. Other times, especially while exercising or soon after, it looks much smaller to me and I think 5 to 10 pounds will easily do the trick.

Just wanted to add that I have the pooch too but then again I have about 20lbs to lose so I hope it goes away if I can get serious. Use to have a very flat stomach but #1) I had a c-section granted it was 6 years ago and #2) I hit 40 last month and my metabolism in the last couple of years has DEFINATEly slowed WAY down. I really want to get my S**T in gear this time!

Granted I am sure the occasional beer doesn't help! Plan to be more of a wino this summer and see if that helps too.emoticon

i have this pooch too and it is driving me up a wall!!

i do crazy ab work almost daily and have been eating pretty clean and of course i do cardio and it is just being really stubborn!

i'm actually thinking of going to bliss spa in manhattan to get their "love handler" treatment to see if that helps it. it's pretty pricey ($120) but as far as i'm concerned, i can't put a price on happiness and self esteem if it works.

my upper abs are getting really nice now but the bottom is taking it's dear old time and i'm so self concious about it

i think it is part genetics

my boobs were the 1st to go when i lost weight. i went from a full C to an A but i see it as a small sacrafice to pay for the rest of my body looking better LoLemoticon

everything I read that talks about the pooch, love handles, last little bit of beer gut...whatever you want to call it, says that it is all about the carbs and clean & lean. When I say clean & lean like 50-100 carbs per DAY. FOR THE WHOLE DAY!!

The only problem for women is that YES some of your fat stores will probably come from your chest. Some women lose them first, some lose them last, some don't lose them at all, (we'll just call them God's little miracles)

I know in my case I am probably arround 12% body fat and I still have small handles and a small giggle in front.

IF it is any consolation (even though I am happily married 14 years!!) I still think fit/in shape/skinny/muscular chicks with small boobs are HOT!! I am a guy so bigger boobs are nicer, but hey, I am not judging.

hehehe!!! I said boobs twice!! hehehe!!!

There is no way that you have to accept this as part of aging because it has nothing to do with aging. You can see your abs again - so never believe that you can't.

I'm SOOOO glad someone else mentioned this. This has been my biggest obstacle to overcome. At 5"7 inches and 138 pounds, I am not considered overweight, but I don't remember having this "mummy tummy" and muffin top when I was 128 pounds. I am so tired of being asked if I'm "expecting" again. I feel like screaming "I'm 40 for heaven's sake, do you think I want to tackle perimenopause and pregnancy at the same time!!!!".

I eat clean about 90% of the time and the other 10% is when I feel so discouraged that I give up for a day or two. It seems that this little pooch doesn't want to go away. For those of you in the 40 and up crowd, should I just accept this as part of aging, or can I really see my abs again someday?

I'm lucky. The only more stubborn than my pooch under my belly button is my tits. Even at 113 pounds, I was 36C or D. It doesn't go. When I was skinny before my divorce, I was 34D. Some girls aren't as lucky. I wish they would get smaller, but I would have probably need to lift weight 6 hours a day before they shrank.

Joining this team is what I did to get rid of my pouch! It's about losing subcutaneous fat like Lillian pointed out and I think eating clean is really going to help with that. And the reduction in bloating that so many team members have talked about will help too, I think.

I found my C-section scar tissue is below my pooch. So the pooch has nothing to do with it. I'm now convinced that it will go. It might take me getting below my goal weight, but I'll revisit the issue later.

This gives me hope. I thought the pooch was here to stay, but I guess I will know when I have reached a suitable goal. If the pooch is gone, I'm there.
My bigger question is why are the boobs shrinking faster than the pooch? I was having a race and the girls are winning!!!

Time, time, time. You are correct you can not spot train for fat loss. In my case it is what I put on my spark page. I am trying to lose love handles quickly that took 30+ years to put on.

Thanks for the insight! However, I have never had children and this thing doesn't seem to want to go down! Also, I don't believe in spot training! Ugh! When I was smaller than I am, I do not remember having a pooch. I mean I didn't have a six-pack, but my stomach was flat. So, I am just going to have to watch what I eat and continue my workouts, then go from there!

Thanks Again!

I have it. This is the first time that I ever thought I could shed it. I thought I would need liposuction to get rid of it, but I'm starting to see definition lines in my abdominal region for the first time in my life. That gives me hope that the pooch that I've had since getting pregnant will go away.

I think that it will take me losing almost all my subcutaneous bodyfat to lose it. I got it as my first sign of being pregnant with my first. I was only three days pregnant and the some fat on my bottom moved to that location. I'm sure that the fat is there to protect any children I might have. My body doesn't know that my childbearing days are over.

Since I'm approaching menopause, it gives me hope that I can shed that fat once and for all. I hope I don't have to lose so much weight to shed that fat that I look bony in other places. Then, if I keep building muscles, even if I get very lean, I won't look gaunt.

I have a bit of the dreaded pooch too - I think it has a lot to do with genetics! I gain a pound and it makes it appearance, seriously, and gaining 5 pounds on my 51" frame, is just ...depressing!!! People start asking how far along I am ...uffff!

Oh, by the way, I didn't lose my pooch until the very last little bit of weight loss and got around 20% body fat (according to my Weight Watchers scale - which is highly unscientific LOL).

That is so true Debi. As women we all have to face the effects of childbirth, age, menopause etc. and just plain old genetics. I do know that you can be very small with a very flat abdomen and if you put on a couple pounds or even a small amount of fat, that pooch can reappear quickly. Just be patient and do the very best you can - your abs are there even if you never exercised them.

Stevie - I have the lovely pooch but mine is excess skin at this point as I had 3 c-sections, all VERY large babies at birth. I continue to burn the fat but I do not think my stomach is going to go any further down!

Stevie - don't forget that "The Pooch" is bodyfat and all the ab exercises in the world are not going to fix that. As you get down with your weight more of that will start to disappear. So the problem isn't really about taking it to the next level with exercises, it is continuing your fat loss journey. If you look at your goal weight and where you are now, think about what that Pooch will look like when you reach your goal.

Ladies,

I was wondering what are you doing for your abs. I definitely understand giving your abs a rest, because it is a muscle. However, I really want to go to the next level with my ab exercises, but I do not know what I should do! I have that dreaded pooch, that almost every women who has one hates! So, I really want to focus on the lower abs. Does anyone have any suggestions? They would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

Stevie
