My first month on Spark has been great. I've stuck with clean eating since October 1st and I've lost 26 lbs as of November 6th. My energy level and sleeping patterns have improved greatly. I now read every label and focus on the need to eat healthy versus eating to eat. I even have my bf eating and asking questions about what is in the meals that I prepare. I feel for the first time in my life that I am living a lifestyle and not just a "diet", so it is much more ingrained in my subsconciousness when I am offered foods that are not healthy for me! Best to everyone else who chooses to eat clean and be healthy!!!

I had a great first month--the longest I have stuck with anything in a long time. And then I went absolutely nuts over the weekend. I even ate (please don't gasp) vienna sausages last night. UGH!!!!! I got up this morning and had my oatmeal with ground flaxseed and wheat germ. I am having lunch with a friend at a deli that has the most wonderful salad bar--LOTS of fresh veggies, fruit, nuts, etc. Wish me luck on getting back with the program.
Thanks!!!

Hey Jen,
You are up there though. My brother lives in Delaware county. He's in Walton, not far from Roscoe NY, if familiar? I love it there. I'm In Suffolk County, Long Island NY. It's country. I'm surrounded by farms. Yet I'm not to far from the City of NY. I'm glad I moved where i am now.

I & several of the girls bought Tosca Reno's cookbook & she has other ones also. Some of us have subscription to Eat Clean magazine. You can buy magazine in the store. This way you can check it out first. take care
Hugs,
Lee

I hope all of you are doing well

I'm just starting to make this real. It's been a couple of days but reading all of these posts is so encouraging!

I'm trying to make the transition to clean eating slowly, so I'm not there yet. I don't want to do it all at once because I'm afraid I won't stick to it if I do.

I'll stop by again in a month to check in but I'll keep reading these posts - they are so motivating!

I'ts been about 6 months, and I'm dong OK. Not as well as I hoped, but I've been having some stressful times at work, and my motivation just flags when I'm working long hours, and can't devote as much time to the diet and working out as I'd like. But all in all, this is a great plan, and I'm sticking to it as best I can. I do notice when I stick to it, I feel better, healthier, stronger. And when I stray I feel more run down, bloated, fatigued. You'd think that would help motivate me to stick to it, but temptations have their way of slipping in during weak moments...

Just wanted to report in at the 6 month mark! I know I can do better, and I will, it's just a matter of putting my mind to it, and getting the things I need to be successful.

Hi Jerseygirl...you can do it!! It is hard getting on track after falling off the wagon, but once you do, you'll get the energy to keep on eating clean.
I highly recommend another book that in essence has a similar aim as Eating Clean but approaches it from a different angle, called "Potatoes not Prozac" It addresses the issues with food addiction and how sugars and crap affects both our bodies and our brains, and why we fall prey to bad choices so easily. The only thing I found that was different was the 3 meals instead of 5 or 6...I have had wonderful luck with Reno's idea of snacks, they keep me burning.
If you are interested in the science behind what sugar does to you, this is a good read!!

Well, I have recently found out that I damaged my metabolism for counting calories WAAY too low (1200-1500) for way too long now (years). At first it worked but have since had a 6 month plateau(atleast) or bout of yo-yo'ing between 168-175. I became desperate and sought help from my sister, who is a personal trainer, and trust me I NEVER ask her for help! She told me that she stays lean by 'eating clean' (with the occasional treat). And so I decided to Google it to learn more...and to give it a shot. Shortly after that, she also offered to train me and found out how much I was eating (only 1200-1500 cals/day) and made me realize that I was not eating enough food and that is why my body has not been efficiently burning fat/losing weight...b/c I was prob losing muscle instead. So I have been on starvation mode for the last 6 months and that is why I cannot lose weight...

So I have since thrown out all the junk in my house, even my 2 yr olds snack foods (now we got healthy fruits and veggies to snack on), and have integrated my families life with "eating clean" for almost 1 month now (19 days). I am excited for this lifestyle change of eating healthy! I have actually never ate SO much on a regular basis (all good, healthy foods of course) which pleases me to no end, hehe!!

19 days is not a very long time but it's a start and I feel great already!! I don't have my horrible sugar cravings anymore, I never feel like binging at nites either (which is a miracle) and my skin has been glowing!

I can't wait to continue this journey into health and happiness! I still have a ways to go but I'm glad I found something that I can SERIOUSLY stick to for the rest of my life! I LOVE IT and I think I'm HOOKED! I'll try to post again at month 3 for an update :)

Just an update...I've been eating fairly clean since late April and couldn't believe how quickly I lost a few pounds. My primary exercise is weight training, but during the month of May I did Making the Cut. Unfortunately, I had some medical problems in late May and had to stay out of the gym all together until just this past week. We don't have a scale at home, so I was really curious as to what my weight would be after two months of no working out. Sure enough, I had actually lost another 7 pounds! I knew I wasn't gaining anything becuase I've actually dropped another size - from a size 10 in January, down to a size 4 now - but I was shocked to see that I'd lost 7 pounds. That puts me at 133, 19 pounds down since January 1, 2008. I was able to lift just about as much weight as when I stopped, so I don't think I've lost much muscle mass. I attribute it to clean eating!

I'm so excited to be back at the gym. I can't wait to find out what kind of results I'll see if I keep up my clean eating AND get to exercise again.

What a great idea...and a good chance to say that after 10 months I am hooked, you couldn't force me to eat junk now even if you tied me up or paid me! Lost 50 pounds (clean eating combined with great exercise...dance), people tell that at 47 I look decades younger. The strange illnesses that plagued me when I was heavier are gone. Skin clear, energy is WAY up and even better than that, it is consistent. No more ups and downs. People are asking me all the time what my secret is, but when I tell them I don't eat sugar or processed goo, they usually can't deal with it. But my JH and HS kids really see what difference a good diet and lifestyle can make, and it feels sooo good being a good example even if just for them.
My one trick for staying in control is to not let myself run on empty, I am careful to fit in a mini snack even if it is just a bag of nuts or chestnuts. I also make a portable trail mix "cookie" of oats, raisins, walnuts, one egg, cinnamon and a touch of salt...sunflower seeds and sesame work nicely too. Just bake it like a big cookie and keep a slice handy when you don't have time to refuel between meals.
I can't imagine living any other way now!!!

I can say I am at 6 months of eating clean. Pretty close to it. I fell off the wagon for about a month, so I will say 5 ... should be 6.

But I can't eat junk food anymore - greasy, salty, fatty or sugar filled. Gives me a upset stomach/the runs/or I visit the toilet with my face!

I have tons of energy, hair is healthy, skin is healthy, and I have an appetite when I don't eat every 2 hours, and I wake up and go to sleep at the same time.

I don't know how many pounds I have lost with eating clean. I have lost 46 lbs, so probably 35 or 36 lbs with eating clean and exercise.

Keep it up everone. You'll see results in time!

Its been 2 wks, and about 95% clean eating and I feel great. I am going to get that last 5% you watch, I have lost weight, my energy level is don't want to say higher as much as it is steadier, or consistant which is awesome. Totally blows my mind.

P.S I don't have the Tosca book, but I have another book by Robin Jeep and DR.Richard Couey called the Super Antioxident Diet, pretty much the same thing. I plan on purchasing the Tosca book soon.

Hello everyone! I've been eating about 90% clean for a month now. Stuck at 90% b/c there are just some things that my husband won't give up and I occaisionally induldge. So I don't think it's fair to say I am 100% eating clean. Anyhow! I feel fantastic! I've lost 10 lbs from where I was when we moved to Guam, with 8 of those coming from clean eating. My energy levels are great as is my overall perception of my own health. I love trying new recipes and challenging myself to make the unhealthy-not so clean ones cleaner than they were to begin with. Here's to keeping up my habits!!

It's actually been about 4 months now of clean eating, and I feel like this is a great plan, and very sustainable. I went on a short vacation for about 5 days, and although I wasn't even close to 100% clean, I felt like I was able to make good choices for the most part, and was very conscious of the choices that were not so clean. I still feel great!

I love eating healthy. I think the plan is to eat as much raw food as we can all get. Pure food, non-processed, no sugar, etc....I also feel great when I do it and powerful too.

I love eating clean but I find myself consuming too many nonclean foods. I allow myself about 10% nonclean but I do have to be careful about letting too much in my house.
DH was diagnosed with high BP so it has helped me to help him with his sodium. AND to watch more closely what I am eating. We have salads every day now (have been for a while but now I feel the NEED because there are two of us eating right instead of just me.)
Eating clean helped me feel lean almost immediately. Like I retain less water and poofiness. I like that feeling. This is a great way to live!

I have been trying to eat clean for about 6 months now. Today I ordered chicken with brown rice and asked for the chicken to be steamed. Well, they gave me some sort of fried grilled combo, (no coating or anything) However, after eating pretty clean for sometime. The fried part of this did not agree with me. And to be honest I felt bad even eating it. Its like your body starts to reject anything that isn't clean (Unfortunately I didn't really fill my cooler up well today and had no other options for lunch) Won't do that again.

I've been eating clean for about 1 month now, and I immediately noticed how much clearer my skin is. I now look in the refrigerator for a fruit or vegetable, rather than in the snack (processed food) cupboard. I also created a new goal to increase the number of fruits & veggies I eat each day in hopes of jump starting my weight loss. That did the trick -- I'm now losing about 1 pound a week!

I finally bought "Eat Clean Diet" at the end of April. I want to say it was about the 18th, which would be a month ago now just about. I started trying to incorporate clean eating principles almost immediately, and didn't do too bad through a mini-vacation eating in restaurants. I'm not good about documenting how I what I eat makes me feel, so it sort of suddenly dawned on me yesterday how much energy I have. I'm still not crazy about getting up in the morning and probably never will be, but I have plenty of energy through my day. My weight is slowly and steadily dropping and goal was reached earlier in the week. I'm FINALLY losing inches around the dreaded lower belly pooch! Now I just plan to keep up my regular exercise and clean eating and see where I end up. But so far, REALLY good.

After one month of eating clean I feel great! I've only lost 1 lb but I'm watching inches and not the scale. I lost 6 inches, and 1% body fat. I want to loose an additional 7% BF so this may be a slow process but that's OK. My taste buds have really perked up and now fruit tastes like CANDY. I don't miss the sugar like I thought I would, I'm not even really interested anymore. I'm loving this. I feel strong and healthy!!

On the subject of caffeine and headaches, have you tried drinking a cup of green tea w/o sugar for that caffeine rush. I believe it's better for you than coffee and gives you that punch you need maybe w/o the headaches. Another reason you might be experiencing headaches is when you deplete your body of sugar, this is what occurs until it gets used it.

I feel good so far, but I'm not fully eating clean yet. I've cleaned the pantry out and fridge but I'm still trying to figure out some of the non-processed and preservative packed foods to have at work.

I love this message board btw and would love to keep learning more about clean eating. It just makes sense!

Have a super weekend!

Hi I have been clean eating since week 46 in 2004, and have been put on maintenance in week 9 in 2007 and still going strong week 9 in 2008.
I live by clean eating and love what it does for my body. I cook all my meals from the base up and listen to the specialists connected to my weight program what they allow and don't allow with regards to additives.. Many products called low in Denmark are not passed as still have hiden ingredients and as long as they won't tell my weight organisation what is in them, we get told not to use them. I always take the time to ask why and many times I can find much healthier alternatives..
I am a happy camper now I know what to eat, how much and what should be in it and not in it lol...

It's been 4 months since starting SP (1/3) but only 2 months eating clean. I was doing pretty good before I found this thread on eating clean, and it reinforced what I was trying to do, but didn't know there was so much more information!
I have lost 40 pounds since Christmas. I had a month long plateau in March and JC this might pertain to what you're saying. I think I was overexercising, like I was training for something. Then I would come home FAMISHED! lol
I was constantly eating over my calories (and I had adjusted them.) I was eating great food most of the time but too much because I was working out too hard. BALANCE. I am trying to keep my combined cardio activities under 200 minutes a day now...hopefully close to 60 min. I still ST too which will still burn calories. I have had a better last couple of weeks (still occasionally go over my range) but I am averaging 2 pounds a week loss.
I am a lot leaner now but still have 45 more to lose. People comment on me regularly AND I tell them, SP and eat clean!
WooHoo! This is fun!
Now I'm going to go plant some more REAL food!!

I am still drinking my one cup of coffee/day (only with cinnamon instead of Splenda now.) I never really thought I ate that much sugar either, but now that I'm reading labels and finding that it's in everything...

I should mention that I have to have that one cup of caffeinated something each day or I will get a headache. The rest of the day I drink water and had approximately 12 glasses yesterday, so I think I'm good on hydration.

Here's another idea that just occured to me: is it possible to not feel hungry, yet still not be getting enough calories? Maybe I was being a little too careful and just needed some more fuel in general.

I appreciate all of your insight! Just wondered if anybody else experienced the same on their first few days of eating clean.

No I don't eat that much sugar either. But I was wondering about headaches too. I don't usually get them but I have had one all day.. Maybe I will have a cup of coffee, and a glass of water and see if it goes away... Have a great day everyone... Tina

Could be caffine withdrawal if you drink a lot of caffinated drinks. I get a horrible headache if I can't get my cup of joe every morning!

I also get headaches from not drinking enough water, so make sure you are drinking enough.

I never ate that much sugar to have a withdrawal from that, anyone else?

I'm on day two. I actually had the challenge of eating in a restaurant on day one and feel like I made some decent choices. Anyway, yesterday and today I've got a headache. Is it sugar withdrawal? I don't know why or how I've convinced myself that's the problem, but I have!

Jackie, does that gain show on the bodyfat too? Maybe it's muscle? Just a thought.

I've been doing the clean eating for a month now, so this looked like a good place to check in. Like so many, I've noticed many positive changes, less bloated feeling, I was at the top of my maintenance range, and dropped to the bottom w/in a week of starting the new regimen. I had been eating pretty cleanly before, but this time I really made the effort to clean out the cupboards of the HCFC and hydrogenated fats, and I think that has made a big difference in how I feel.

Tosca's book was helpful, and even though I'm not following it exactly, it allowed me to develop a blueprint that really works for me, focusing on fresh fruits and veggies, lean meats and other protein sources, and whole grain products. The smaller more frequent meals are evening out my appetite, and I have been able to stop my habit of evening mindless munching.

I was up a bit this week, but I attribute that to not being able to follow my routine as well as I usually do because of off-site meetings and work related obligations. I expect this week will be better, and I'm hoping that getting back on the clean plan will put me back where I'm really comfortable, at the lower end of my range!

Can't wait to see what the future brings with this way of life!

Good Morning Ladies!!!

There are a few things that may account for this upward trend in my weight...I think I have gone overboard with adding food to accommodate for running which I will cut back today...I don't think I run enough to justify adding calories or carbs!!!

I think I have also taken the 6 meal thing too literally and I am eating to meet a meal or calorie quota and this is causing me to eat when I'm not hungry especially in the evening when I never used to snack!!! Even though my extra eating is from clean and health choices, I am just eating too much!!! I need to go back to the way I was eating when I was the most successful, which was January and February!!! Thank goodness for food logs so I can get a handle on this before it gets out of hand!!!
