Yes, I do have a step! But the ball should work as well. The step would be for the step up squats. So, if you're content with following Christy on the step up squats, then I would stick with the ball!

I did Ripped to the Core this morning too!! Do you have a step?? I dont...I havent decided if its worth getting one or not. I just use my big ball for the chest presses and the modified movements for the other moves.

I did Ripped to the Core today! Oh my goodness, that spider was no joke! However, it was a great workout. I am going to continue with the Ripped Series. I am just going to switch it up between the series.

LADYBUG-DR,

If you are first starting out, you may want to get the Get Ripped! or the Slim & Lean. The GetRipped 1000 is no joke. I have to work my way to that one. It was tough! I am going to get the GetRipped! To the Core as well as GetRipped! & Chiseled in the upcoming weeks.

I like Leslie Sansone's Walking the Walk Getting Fit with Faith DVD. The walking DVD came with the book. It's a 30 day walking guide and each day there is an inspirational page to read. It also has fitness facts and journal pages.

Hi! I have all the Get Ripped dvds. I would suggest Get Ripped to the Core. It is compound moves and not as boring to me as the others. I actually like the original Get Ripped and Get Ripped to the Core the best. Also, if you have a Ross Get Dressed for Less store around you go there because you can usually find some of the Get Ripped dvds for under $5. This way you can get more than 1 to try!
You have to dig through their whole dvd cart to find them but it is worth it.

I also love turbo jam. I have most of them and like them all.

I actually have Get Ripped! Slim and Lean. It is tough but great. Your heart rate gets up and I actually like listening to Jari. She gives the right amount of instruction with motivational speaking. You can do her full body work out or you can choose what exercises per body part you'd like to do that day. I did her full body work out 3 days a week and then did cardio on the off days. The only props you need is dumbbells and a step.

I've done one of Denise Austin's videos. It was good but she talks a lot.

I can't say anything about Denise Austin, I've never viewed any of her DVDs. But how about Jari Love - Get Ripped series?
Can anyone give me some feedback on this series.
I don't consider myself total out of shape, but I'm certainly not in tip-top shape either. Which DVD would you suggest if I only want to get one?

MARYJOF,

What about Denise Austin? I have a walking DVD of hers and it is pretty basic. Also, walking is a great form of working out. Another instructor maybe Kathy Smith and Leslie Sansone. Do a search on those instructors and see what you come up with? Your may want to also research the Biggest Loser's DVDs as well. I hope this helps!

You absolutely can't go wrong with Cathe Freidrich workouts. She has mostly advanced workouts and she is NOT one bit annoying like some other instructors can be. She also has a couple of beginner and intermediate videos. Her workouts are top notch and are very well produced with enjoyable music. Most of her videos require a step and some dumbbells and a few of them require a barbell, band, and ball. You can order a catalog from her site to find out what you will need for each workout or you can email me and I should be able to let you know since I have almost all of her workouts.
She also has all kinds of workouts to choose from depending on what your goals are. She has interval, circuit, full body, all weight, etc. You can check out her videos with long clips of each workout on her site cathe.com.
Also, if you want an advanced muscle building program check out P90X on beachbody.com

I love this thread! I have read thru all the posts and all the DVD's sound like they're pretty challenging for someone who's just starting out.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest one that is better for beginners who are considerably overweight? I'm worried about getting one that will be too hard at first and then I won't do it. I got one by The Firm and it was so hard that I shut it off after only 10 min and I was in so much pain I could hardly walk for a WEEK. I don't want to do that to myself again.

Jari Love is the Get Ripped I have & would reccommend. I know on Amazon they have a 3 pack that is a good deal if you want to get into the series. It comes with "Get Ripped" which is a good work out & really helps to teach the moves. Then theres "Slim & Lean" which is a bit more difficult and my favorite "Ripped to the Core" which is def. the most advanced work out (I dont really recommend starting with this one, ease into it!)

I did a search on "GetRipped". Results were Billy Blank and Jeri(sp?) Love. Which one is preferred? I'm leaning towards Jeri Love series.

For those of you (like myself) that have a problem with big butt and legs, I had great success with Slim in 6. I actually went from having cellulite on my legs to having muscle (along with Medical Weight Loss Diet). The cost of the dvd's is minimal compared to how "priceless" it is to feel better about myself. I will have to check out extremely-fit.com. Thanks for the tip

CELINASEWS,

Get the Turbo Jam series. I love those workouts. I have Cardio Party Mix #1 & #2. However, Cardio Party Mix #3 is not one of my favorites. Overall, they are great workouts that go pretty quickly. Before you know it, 45 minutes are over with and you want to still keep going. At least, that how I feel afterwards! emoticon

I am going to have to invest in Jari Love's Get Ripped to the Core and Get Ripped and Chiseled DVDs. Thanks for sharing! I really want to challenge myself to the next level.

I have never enjoyed aerobics but I do love Leslie Sansone's walking DVDs - I choose the intensity I walk/jog.
I also have several Windsor Pilates and CoreSecret DVDs - they're okay, not favorites.
Several have been mentioned I've never heard of, Zumba - GetRipped. Both sound interesting, I'll have to check into them. Who does those?

I have most of the turbo Jam DVD's (except for the live and balance ball dvds) and love them when I commit to keeping a steady routine of working out.

If you want a taste of Turbo Jam I'd check out ebay to find a couple. Any of the cardio party ones are great and a turbo sculpt would be the two I'd buy if you wanted a taste of the workouts without buy everything. But checkout beachbody.com to get a better understanding of the "sets" and how they are broken up. I have seen the started set in Costco before.

I also have from beachbody.com - Power 90 and Hip Hop Abs but want to stick to the TJ for the next 4 to 6 weeks and then plan to change programs to keep things interesting. I also have Windsor Pilates DVDs

I like Denise Austin's Power Zone. You use it with resistance bands for an all over workout- I've gotten great results in the past with it & just started using it again last week. I also like Crunch Fat Blasting Pilates- 1st part is pilates based cardio and the 2nd part is mat pilates.

I just ordered Crunch's Super Charged Kickboxing Party which I am hoping is in my mailbox today. These help cure my treadmill boredom.

I LOVE the "Get Ripped" series!! RIPPED TO THE CORE is defiantly my favorite of the 3 that I have...its also the most difficult - you really get your heart rate up and break a sweat!!

I just ordered Turbo Jam Max Results about 2 days ago...so Im really pumped to try it! (I think it has 5 different workouts & the gloves...thats why I chose it. I found it on eBay and Amazon as well as the Beachbody website...but it was the cheapest at www.extremely-fit.com)

I just started to work out at home with our treadmill and our free weights. My fiance and I quit paying for our gym membership and decided to turn our basement into a gym. Plus I have a free gym to use at work. I have a few DVDs that I love but I am interested in getting more to keep me motivated and interested. I have is GET RIPPED and I love it! I am so glad to see Steph's post about it. I want to try her other DVDs including GET RIPPED TO THE CORE.

I also have a pilates DVD called, Pilates Complete for Weight Loss. It is pretty good and it incorporates dumbbells as well as traditional pilates. I am looking for a more fast paced workout. I am kind of interested in the firm's new set (www.thefirmdirect.com). I caught the infomercial last Saturday morning while making breakfast. Does anyone have it? Just for the record I do not have a history of ordering off of the TV.

I do have to say, my best friend swears by Turbo Jam. I have not bought or borrowed any of the DVDs from her. To get it you have to go to http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_p
rograms/best_sellers/turbo_jam_maximum
_results.do. It's series of 5 DVDs and other items in the package. I would like to try her's before purchasing a whole set. I am a fan of renting workout DVDs from my local library and Netflix. I tried one of Denise Austin's workouts and it was ok.

I am so glad someone brought this subject up and I am totally interested in more opinions and suggestions.

I really like Billy Blanks Ultimate Tae Bo Advanced Upper/Lower body. (2 workouts, 45 mins each) It's nice and challenging. And I always feel the burn the next day. it's cardio, kickboxing.

I also like the Women's Health Mag Wedding Workout. You can do the full workout, or just do sections like upper or lower body. The total workout is 50 minutes (I think). I can be good if you want to work out every day for a shorter period of time and switch from upper to core to lower every day. (make sense?)

I just got the Women's Health Mag Ultimate Fat Burn. It's about 45 mins, 1/2 cardio, 1/2 strenght with weights. It's broken down into 4 11min segments, so I don't get bored with it. It's not super challenging, but it's effective.

I'm in the market for some new DVD's. I am interested in trying a Turbo Jam. There is a Turbo Jam team on Spark, and they all seem to love TJ. However, they don't sell Turbo Jam at Borders, and don't seem to have any on Netflix or at my library, so I might have to order it. I'm not sure which one to get because it looks like there are a million.

Good luck and I hope to benefit from your great post. I'm looking for recommendations too!

Everyone,

I love working out at home. However, I like to try new workouts in order to break plateaus by constantly changing my routines every 4-6 weeks. So, what are your favorite workout DVDs? Please share!

Right now, my favorite strength training DVD is from Jari Love's Get Ripped. It's a very challenging workout. I am thinking about getting her new DVD titled "Get Ripped & Chiseled".
