Thanks for reviving this thread!

I do cardio 4 days a week...with one day being lighter intensity. I'll either run, walk, bike (indoors or out depending on weather!) Use the rowing machine, P90X Plyometrics, Zumba, and in the summer...swimming.

I do weight 3 times a week.

And I do Yoga ever day.

Time to revive this thread!

I've been using Cathe Friedrich's STS Program and LOVE it! It's 3 days of heavy lifting and it works the muscle hard and oh so good!

I try to work out at least 6 days a week. Twice a week I'm working out with a trainer with a group of my coworkers, which is really fun. Some of the other days I hit the gym, sometimes I work out with a dvd at home.

Zumba looks like it would be fun! Every gym these days seems to have a Zumba class too, I'll have to try it out sometime.

My goals include exercise 5-6 days every week. I strength train on Tues & Fri. Cardio is scheduled most every day.

However, I'm having to adjust again to the change in seasons & rain & darkness early. It takes me awhile to get in the groove & get out the door to the gym since I can't just go take a walk. (I'm DEFINITELY a fair weather exercise person!)

I work out with weights 30min and do cardio 30-45 min at the gym three days a week. On my off days I am doing the coach to 5k program at home on the treadmill. I also enjoy biking with my husband and try to get out and walk the dog. Like to mix it up.

I have been walking 1.5miles a day with my dogs. They get soooo excited when they hear let's go for a walk! I also do at LEAST 10mins a day on my Wii, but I have found that ten usually turns into twenty or longer :)

@Sara: I bought the workout book and the journal. They are OK, but don't hesitate to look at other workout books to be sure to get what you want. As for the journal, I think it's not worth the money. Each page displays a blank table to write down your exercises (which one, weight, reps). You can do it yourself on sheets of paper or I'm sure you may download an example from the Internet.

My bikini days are over, but I do play tennis and volleyball and hike in the hills. Just bought a basement home gym at an auction. Now to get a program up and running. I think it would help to get a TV in the basement to make the lifting seem a little more user friendly.

I use an elliptical, treadmill and do spinning for both interval training as well as steady-pace sessions. I also run walk and jog outdoors. I use free weights, a barbell, a kettlebell, resistance bands and a step. I try to do some skipping too.

I live quite close to the local YMCA and I take spinning classes 3-4 times per week and sculpting class one day a week. 2 days a week I do a high intensity cardio interval class. I have a desk job and make it a point to get up frequently and take a walk if even 10 minutes I will find a stairwell and do some flights of stairs. I think better when I am moving.

I've been doing turbo jam, I love the way it makes me feel. Empowered and sexy (after awhile) I like that it's a little tough, not too dancy but dancy enough to keep it fun.
I also just started Jillian Michaels' No More Trouble Zones...OMG this is a tough one!

I do a full body workout 2 times a week. I like to lift as heavy as I can. Unfortunately I don't get as much cardio in as I like to, when I do I do HIIT on the dreadmill or elliptical. I usually work out at the gym, but at home I love the Cathe series lifting slow and heavy or Pyramids DVD's. 30 day shred by Jillian Michaels kicks my butt too :)

Monday through Friday I walk on the treadmill at 4.0 with a 15% incline for 3 miles and the last mile I slowly go down to 0% incline(total 1 hour). Then I cool down for 5-10 minutes. M, W & F I do a leg workout in the weight room. T, TH and S I do an arm workout with dumbbells. M-F I also do ab work from all angles. On Saturday I do a variety of things to get my cardio in. Sunday I rest.

Rather than waiting around for someone to fall in love with me I fell in love with myself. Either way, once you're loved your lights are on.-Author Unknown

I have been running 4 times a week, cross training on bike or elliptical 2 -3 times a week. I also do weight training 3 times a week. This weekend I have my first 5K of the season. A bit nervous as I just recently got serious about my running this week.

Hi Deb, Spinning is a classing using a a type of stationary bicycle in which you pedal very fast. The instructor of the class changes the tempo, resistance and type of moves you do on the bicycle.
I have always had fun when I have taken a class.

what is spinning? Hi everyone, my name is Debbie, I go by Deb. I have just started working out again, and boy did I need it. I go to the gym almost every day, and walk a mile on the tred mill, then do some other machines. Right now I can only do so much as I got into a wreck before christmas, so it is still hard to use one hand still. But getting used to it.
Talk to yall later. Deb

Due to health issues, I want to change my life style and become a better person as well. I also would love to know if anybody likes to crochette and share patterns?

Some teams have it and some don't...I think their may be a team devoted just to virtual walks...look in the teams section under ? fitness?

I am doing a virtual walk with my state team right now but I have seen other teams do it too. I even had a short one with a sparkbuddy which we set up to walk from her house to mine (she was in a neighboring state.) It took us about 3-4 weeks. We would just post to each other's page every evening what our "virtual miles" were each day. We used a map from mapquest then plotted each town stop on the way. The town stops give each of us time to catch up if we are behind. The first one there waits until the next person comes in then we both leave the next day. Does that make sense? It is accountability for me and I look for ways to rack up my miles: walking to the store...riding my bike to the bank...working in my yard, etc....I have a virtual miles Conversion Chart if you need it. Just holler!

Yes, time defiantly isn't the problem. Before I started working, I would get up in the morning, drink 8 oz of water, drink my coffee, go on-line to SP, have breakfast and then at 9:00 (always 9:00) I would go for a walk. It was great . It was scheduled into my day. I just need to schedule it back into my day now. I started the 30 Day Shred DVD 2 days ago and am really enjoying it. I want to make an appointment to do it every morning after my other normal routine. Even the days that I work. I will just spend less time on the computer. That's hard though because I enjoy reading all the posts on SP and talking to you people. emoticon emoticon
I think a challenge to get us off the couch would be a great idea. I like the idea of getting miles for washing the car. I did this yesterday. I need to clean out my closets, are there miles for that too? LOL

Kayotic you are on to something there. I think what keeps me motivated is one of my teams on here. We do a "virtual walk." We pick somewhere to go (we are going on a shopping spree to America's Shopping Mall in Minnesota!) and post our "miles" everyday. We use a conversion chart so if we mow our lawn for 20 min...we look up that # on the conversion chart then multiply it by the 20 minutes or whatever minutes it took.
It is really easy and I find myself looking for things to do to get more miles in. I easily get 1 hour of cardio in a day now. Not all of it is aerobic but as we all know, anything that gets us off the couch is better than what we were before. So I pour my efforts into my garden and grow my own vegetables (can't forget the flowers of course.) I make sure I get to mow the lawn not the 5 teens that live here, lol! I ride my bike everyday and strength train most everyday.
WooHoo! It's for my health.
Maybe the leaders could put something together for us...go to an Olympic event? Or some other sporting/fitness venture?
You can get cardio "miles" for washing your car - NO MORE automated carwashes!
All of this gets us more active and less reliant on our fastfood society.
(Could you hear that tone of rebellion?)

Sometimes you just have to kick your own butt!

Maybe you have too much free time? I know my motivation flags if I have a lot of free time, because I can say to myself "I'll do it later" and then later passes me by, and it never gets done.

You have to commit to a time, and stick to it! Maybe find or create a challenge on this team or another team, invite others to join you, and kick each other's butts.

If you commmit to a morning exercise routine, then you will have fewer excuses to not get it done, plus the added benefit of starting your day feeling proud that you met your goal.

I need to add exercise back into my life. I started working out of the home about 1 1/2 months ago and now I can't seem to get myself to do any exercise. I was walking 2 miles everyday until then. I only work part-time so I don't know what my problem is. I need someone to kick me in the butt and get it moving again. I even bought a new workout video yesterday hoping that this would give me some motivation. Anyone out there good at butt kicking?

It is great for endurance. I did this for a couple of months before my first half marathon and I ran more than 9 miles without effort. the last few were tough but the great part of HIT is muscle memory.

Your body won't forget! :)

I'm only as strong as the coffee I drink and the hair spray I use...

It's high intensity interval training. You can start w/ 30 sec intervals and work up to 2 or 3 min intervals where you go at full speed (as fast or intensely as you can). You follow the interval with low speed cool down, and do about 5 or 6 intervals in a session. It's getting your heartrate into it's max zone, then getting it back down before going into the max zone again. I think there are some articles in the healthy lifestyle tab about interval training, but it is supposed to increase your endurance and speed. It's a good idea to incorporate into your workouts perhaps once or twice a week.

Hello
I am new here, but wanted to pipe in. I usually do the elliptical and pilates plus strength training. 2 weeks ago and discovered Zumba, oh my gosh so much fun I love it.
Now for a stupid question. What is HIIT, I do the elliptical, so if there is a way to burn more calories I wanna know.
Thank you
Linda

They don't offer them at my gym. I go to a no-frills gym. My Mom bought my membership about 20 years ago! Still good and free but unfortunately they don't really have any classes or any of the fun things other gyms offer. I've heard all good things about spinng though...give it a try!!!

I've taken some spin classes and really liked them. You do get a really good workout, and you can pace yourself. The ones I took the instructor says go to level 5, then take it to a 10 for 15 seconds, etc. So whatever a 5 is for you is what you do. I don't go anymore because it's not that convenient, and most of the classes are later than I'd like to workout.

Mom2brit, I've heard a lot of people say they repeated weeks on the c25K program because it moved more quickly than they wanted to. the nice thing about a program like that is you can tailor it to how you need to progress, so if you want to repeat a week 5 times, why not? Your still doing it!

I don't run exclusivly, and I really don't enjoy road running, but I love to trail run, probably because the terrain is so varied and it's more interesting scenerey, and the hills! If you like the incline on the treadmill, maybe you need to get out in the hills, and trail run, or hike! I started hiking, and do the trail running now because it's a more efficient workout, but I still love to hike.

I wish I could get to love running. I started the Couch to 5K training and I've been doing it for almost 2 months and I can now just run 3 min with a 3 min walk in between. Basically I stopped following the schedule because I can't keep up. I may not like running, but I really want to run for 30 min so I am keeping at it until then. Maybe it will click in at some point and I too will love it. Otherwise I can at least say I gave it an honest shot! When I was a teenager and very active (I was a tomboy and loved sports), I still couldn't run very well. For some reason my body doesn't like it LOL! But I do love the treadmill and like to walk at 4.2 mph and change the inclines (I prefer the high inclines) so who knows....I say find what you like and you will keep at it! I also like rollerblading which surprisingly burns tons of calories.
