Hi everyone, I'm new to the team and was reading this thread. According to my current weight (285) my calorie range is between 3,040-3990; that sounds like ALOT of food. Did I do this correctly? How is exercise factored in to this? How do you figure the number of calories that you should burn in exercise? Thanks for the help!

I had a hard time eating today. I am still under the calorie suggestion form the article. I added nuts to my menu today as well as extra fruit and cheese. Any suggestions on other food I can add without adding a lot of fat.

One calc has me at 1200 calories, and the other has me at 2240 calories. That's a big difference, huh?

Yes,I double checked the article and the numbers are correct! This must be for body builders....LOL!!! I can't eat that much fat!! I only eat about 33 to 37 fat grams in a given day, anything over that, I might feel greedy!!

I HAVE A QUESTION! IF I'M BURNING 600-700 CALORIES/DAY 6 DAYS A WEEK AT CURVES HOW WOULD I ADJUST A CALORIE INTAKE OF 1800 CALORIES A DAY BASED ON MY ACTIVITY LEVEL? I USED THE CALORIE COMPUTING SUGGESTED ON HERE AND THIS IS MY TOTAL I GOT. WHICH IS WAY HIGHER THAN I AM DOING NOW, WHICH IS APPROX.1300 DAY. RIGHT NOW I'M LOSING ABOUT 1 POUND A WEEK. ANY IDEAS???I THINK I'M GOING TO TRY EATING MORE CALORIES TO SEE IF THIS WILL REALLY WORK!

You know I didn't even bother to compute the carbs, fat, and protein but I just did and fat was entirely too high. I would be really uncomfortable eating that much fat in a given day. Do you stil have the article to make sure the numbers are correct?

Ladies, when you did the formula that I posted from Oxygen, did you find your fat gram range to be really high when you did the formula or is it just me!! Let me know what you guys got as your fat intake!

I think that cycling them would be great because this also tricks your body!! I did that alot when I started this journey, not because I was trying but my time varied so much during the day and each week till it was hard for me to stay exactly at a certain amount of calories so I was at the high in one day then the very low end and so forth and so on!! I guess it really worked for me.

LoL...ok I am so jealous of you but I am very happy for you. I guess if your body is still losing weight then its not done yet. Its so weird how upping the calories is making a big difference in your weightloss. I guess I should give it a try since I am way heavier than you and eating less calories than you and exercise moderately. I think I will try to stick around 2000 calories based on the numbers I got from the formulas but I might cycle them to include high/low days.

Prettygirl, I haven't started using either of these formulas actually. I did find them interesting and wanted to inform you guys that were still wanting to lose weight. I do pay much attention to the carbs, proteins and fats! I do the fat formula on my all of my foods to make sure that I'm not consuming anything that has over 30 % fat (formula, multiply total fat X 9 and then divide by the total number of calories). I make sure that I eat at least 115-130 grams of protein and I make sure that I do not exceed 200 grams of carbs. I usually eat anywhere from 1700 to 2000 calories per day depending on if it's a weight training day! I did do the numbers and like you, my numbers are pretty close for both formulas and it's funny because they are pretty much around the numbers that I'm doing now so this explains why I'm still losing weight.

The difference in the numbers aren't that much different for me...maybe about 100-200 calorie difference which is so weird to me. I think I will try to up my calories and see if that will help me. I have tried calorie reduction and while it works it leaves me hungry.

Kenya, do you use these forumulas at all? Also do you pay attention to the maconutrients (carbs, protein, fat)?

I figured it both ways. Nessiecats way puts me @ 1830 cals. Keenieboys way puts me @ 2240. I would like to see a consistent 2 lb. weight loss.

Yesterday I hit 1865 cals. and I felt so full.

Love, Moi

Dawn for the article that I copied and pasted on the thread you multiply your desired weight! For the article Nessicat read a some months ago, you calculate your current weight. My article was focused on informing you of the right amount of calories, proteins, carbs and fat grams you should be taking in to get to where you want to be. The article Nessiecat read is telling you how much you need to consume to have a 2 pound weight loss everyweek. Do the math on both and see which would be more realistic for you.

If you want to accomplish your goals, you make a way! If you don't, you make excuses!!!

This plan makes sense to me but wow! what a jump in calories compared to where I've been trying to stay. I'm gonna give it a try because I haven't seen a whole lot of weight loss lately - just inches (which still makes me happy).

One question though - for calories you multiply "desired" body weight. Protein & carbs do you multiply desired body weight also or what your weight is now?

I agree with you Nessie Cat, I guess this is why I have still been losing even though I'm eating more foo!! I'm eating almost at 2000 calories and I am down to 138 right now even with all of my weight training!!! My clothes are still fitting good but I can see that I am toning up more!!

Well I too will be needing to eat over 2000 calories.....2082 to be exact but I'm going to give it a try for the next week. Nessicat, you're numbers are very convincing and I WANT TO LOSE!!! Just one question Nessicat....what did you do about exercising? Did you change this up due to consuming more calories?

This is one of my fears as well. If I were to multiply my desired weight by 16 I would be intaking over 2000 calories, is this right? How can this be? I am so scared to eat a lot of calories but I do want to lose more consistently...what do you all think?

Gina, I'm telling you... I thought the same thing and the fear of not losing didn't leave me until after the first 10lbs. I was 214lbs and I ate 1200-1500 as professionals recommended and I lost weight. However, I was extremely HUNGRY! I found that article similar to the one Keenie is referring to and I started it at 207lbs and I been losing 2lbs consistantly. I am now 165lbs! try it for 2 wks and see if it works for you. I figured, I'd rather eat and lose, oppose to starve and lose. LOL

I love Oxygen mag. I'm doing a program similar to this. An article I read in Oxygen suggested that people multiply their current weight x's 14, then subtract 900 and that gives you your daily calories for a 2lb lost every week. That calculating stuff really works, I been doing it since I started and it's been consistant.

I got this from Oxygen magazine! I thought this was interesting as well and I thought I would pass it on!

What are Your Nutrient Requirements?

All you highly active ladies, here’s what your body needs to get lean and sculpted:

• Calories: multiply your desired body weight by 16.

• Protein: multiply body weight by 0.75 to get optimal protein intake in grams. Then multiply by four for total protein calories.

• Carbohydrates: multiply body weight by 2.4 for recommended carbohydrates in grams. Then multiply by four for carbohydrate calories.

• Fat: Add protein calories to carbohydrate calories. Subtract this total from total calories. Divide by nine to determine fat grams.

If you want to accomplish your goals, you make a way! If you don't, you make excuses!!!
