Hey Bella!

Jane has some good suggestions.
As for why you'd want a Free T4 and Free T3 test in addition to your TSH, that's because you want to see if your thyroid medication is optimized. TSH is only one portion of the equation.

Meaning if you're having residual symptoms that aren't responding to diet, supplementation and exercise AND your TSH is in range, you may need to reduce your Synthroid (T4) and supplement your Synthroid with Cytomel (T3).

Or switch to a combination med like one of the Porcines (Armour/Naturethyroid) or Thyrolar.

The only way to find this out is by testing your "frees".

May I suggest you go in with a journal of how you are feeling and what your body is doing from now until you see the doctor. If you have been doing this great!

You may want to ask to have your B12 and Vitiman D levels checked also Folate, Serum (Folic acid) and CBC w/Diff & Platelet. I took these off my lab orders that will be done when I get back from my vacation.

I'm going to see a new doctor for my hypothyroidism, and would like to go in suggesting what tests I would like and be able to say why I need them in an intelligent fashion. My last doctor refused to do any tests but TSH. So, I have a fresh start. I'm thinking TSH, Free T3 and Free T4. How should I explain the reasons I need the T3 and T4? Also, any other tests I should request? Thanks!
