Let me stress the prescription Vit D(50.000 IU once a week) is a synthetic form of D2, not the good form of D3 like you get from the sun, so it can't possibly be as good for your body!!! Get it from the drugstore or order it from iHerb or Vitacost. You can get it in 5000 IU gelcaps.

I take 10000 ius Vit D3, I get it at a compounding pharmacy, no script. It has no fillers. Never got it from a reg store before. My Endo put me on 5000 4yrs ago, I did a lot of research on ovarian cancer after I lost my Mom 3 yrs ago. Vit D3 is said to have lots of protection with many different cancers (ovarian and breast being 2). I read to aim for optimal levels 70-100. So I increased w/out asking my Dr. I am seeing a PA now for thyroid, and he about fell on the floor when I told him how much I was taking. We did blood levels on me and my husband and guess what both of us was in the low 70s, right where we should be. My husband has the light flecked skin, burns easy and has had problems w/skin cancers. I have a history of psoriasis. Neither of us has had any problems in 3 yrs now. The psoriasis is all but gone. What I have read Vit D is better than a flu shot, we don;t get flu shots. No colds either. I seen on the Show the Dr's just this week, they said Vit D levels should be at 30. I just don;t think main stream med keeps up. My close friend had a ck up a few weeks ago and the Dr ordered Vit D levels. She got the call that they were low and told to take 400 ius a day. I just don't see how that will improve the levels much. Also the Dr told her to just go to the Drug store and get the cheap one. So this is my Vit D story. Do some research Dr Mercola is good I also follow the Health Ranger.

Never take orders from a cookie!! If you bite it write it!!
Your body is not screaming for more chemicals, your body is screaming for nutrition.
thats what i took from the article so does vitamin d bind with thyroid meds ? the just vitamin d pills i found in my house is only 400 iu so i will need alot more just to get the extra 1000 i need a day
But IF you don't get in the sun and even here in Arizona at this time of year, there is no real sun to talk about. So 65 is the right amount of Vit D to have? So, am I right in saying that you would need 5 capsules of the otc D3 a day or am I reading that wrong? I don't know how and when I got so low!
yes she ran a blood test. I was at work and missed the call she let a voice mail and mailing me a letter. Great doctor the worst office staff ever. she has 6 or 7 other endo's in her practice and they all dhare the same office staff. i been taking the 1400 iu sine jan 7th. Im adding the other 1000iu today.
The problem with the prescription Vit D is it's D2, a synthetic form of D, while D3, which you can get over the counter, is the same form of D that your body makes from sunshine. I take 10,000 units of D3 daily and my level of D is around 65, right where it should be, in the normal range between 50-70. A great many doctors are uninformed about how much D a person needs. Here is a GREAT article that tells all about Vitamin D.
Hmmm, did your doctor run a blood test? I am really low too. My doc put me on 50,000 IU (have no idea how much that really is). I was just told that I couldn't get enough from taking over the counter in me for that high a dose so I have to have a prescription of 1 a week and I get a month at a time. (don't know why) DUH! Did you just start taking it? Do you feel any different? I don't. lol
Hey i just found out that i am also low on my vitamin D. My doctor left a message saying to take 1000 iu a day. I already take about 1400iu a day. So i will be taking 2400 iu. My question is there different forms of Vitamin D that might observe better. The one bottle of vitamin d as D3 cholecalcitero
