Thx Purr, sorry- I lost this in all the late e-mail checks! I've checked all the Endo's in the 60 mi. radius, closest would be about 200 mi. for me. It may come to that. Thanks for the info too.

Well T3 uptake is rarely done anymore in favor of Free T's. You need to get FREE T4 and FREE T3 tests. Total doesn't tell you how much is available circulating in the bloodstream. TSH as mentioned can be meaningless...especially in light of the lack of Free T test results.

You are on a slightly lower dose of armour in the conversion to synthroid. Generally it is 60 mg armour equivalent to 125 mcg synthroid. (DON'T forget mCg for most of the synthetics!) Considering how NEW armour works...you will probably be on two grains or two of the tablets you're currently taking one of to get an equivalent dose and feel better.

Try these links to see if there are any docs in your area. Call them first and interview the nurse to see how they think about thyroid and if they believe in porcines, etc. Don't be stuck on an endo. Many of us don't do well with endos. Find one that will work with you as a team approach to thyroid care.

If it were me....I'd say the folast may not be working and drop it. I'd also be calling and telling them these things to see if they'd do something. If not....run to another doc asap.

Purr, Syntrhoid 125 mg was what I'd been on forever. I'd switched from Levothyroxine due to hair fall out and weight gain. I started Armour Thyroid 60 mg about 5 days ago, with the Folaste to help the Anemia (undetermined source)? No ones looking for the source!

I pestered and reasked for the last Blood done 09/22/10, here's what those said:

T3 Uptake= 28%
T4 Total= 8.7
TSH= 1.71

All of the Thyroid and Parathyroid are gone as I've said. One did say 'maybe' Pitutary should be checked and all the other stuff came up and it got lost in follow-up along the way. The Endo I use is in 'love' with Diabetes care now; he seems to care less about Thyroid and I haven't had any luck find an Endo who does in my are of TN. Either I'm getting worse? Or the Folaste side-effects are getting me dragging worse. My vision is really getting bad now too.

Shell, you need to get your Free T4 and Free T3 checked. Your TSH needs to be lower! If you are on synthetics you should be around 1!!! If on porcine you should be lower than 1!!! IT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD!!!

For 25 years they told me I was fine....my TSH was in range....my Free T4 they tested when I asked....it was fine. My Free T3 was almost non-existent and getting that in range by itself is what changed my world around. For others on this list their TSH is in range but the Free T's are not....it makes a HUGE difference!!! TSH is a measure of a PITUITARY hormone. If that alone is all he tests and you have some sort of pituitary malfunction....HOW WOULD HE KNOW????????????

He wouldn't!

Get the other tests...push like heck if you have to. He obviously doesn't want to do his job. If he won't do it then find a doc that will.

For many on this list...synthroid is the one thyroid med that still makes them have symptoms...getting on a different med may make a big difference. But you won't know until you try...and until you get the other test results.

NO, and for some reason (NO THYROID or PARATHYROID any more), the Dr doesn't check anything but TSH-would this make a difference? I'm lost, confussed and tired- the drug is definitely too strong or something else is WRONG!

Your TSH being that high is more than likely the cause of the pains! I can't remember for certain...you couldn't take porcine? They need to get your thyroid more in line. Ever get Free T4 and Free T3 numbers?

Folast- according to the Pharmacist I finally got- is a Low Dose Folate and B Vitamin prescription supplement used for cases like mine. Anemia with unresolved causes. Since I have also 'false positive' for Lupus in the past, it is also used to aid in RIM sleep patterns and pain in Fibromyalgia Paitents. Folaste is no longer made in the US in this Low a dose.

Metanx- the same version of Folast is produced in the US, and is a whole lot cheaper! But comes in a higher dose only. Too bad the Pharmacy didn't let ME or my Dr know this!

My Thyroid is Off the Scale at 5.239 TSH. I've never had such a high number? I was on Synthroid 125 mg. Amazingly, after taking the 1st dose last night; I have little pain in the bad wrist (ganglion cyst) and shoulder, tummy issues have followed though and cannot tell 'which' new Med is the issue or if they are at all?

I have never heard of this Folast; what did the pharmacist say?

I take Armour Thyroid Rx and have no aches and pains from it.

I am not familiar with Chronic Fatigue or Fibromyalgia although friends have it. I have no idea what they take for it.

Has anyone had any experience with this drug? I've been experiencing all over body pain with the switch to Armour Thyroid by my Endo. He just prescribed this since I've not been diagnosed as having Lupus but rather Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia. I'm concerned since this carries a possible high risk of Addiction! See link-
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20629967

This stuff came with NO information other than ASK the Dr or Pharmacist.
