Raw thyroid is the thyroid of an animal freeze dried. New Zealand is known for their regs on pesticides on grasses, etc. Google "Raw Thyroid" and "New Zealand" and you will find numerous articles on it. I actually heard about using bovine glands to supplement adrenal function but my adrenals were fine so I blew it off. THEN I was diagnosed with hypo so I gave the meds a year and did a little more research. I am willing to give it a try. I am using bovine because I do not eat pork products. Armour is a porcine product that supposedly is very good. There are also numerous herbs and vitamins that support glandular function. Below are a couple of sites I found by googling bovine thyroid.

When you say raw adrenals from New Zealand, what do you mean? Do you have a name or a Dr's prescription? I am taking 150 mcg of levowhatever. My Dr at my last , 2 wks ago, said "Your thyroid is perfect" and gave me a year and a half prescription. But I run 5k every other day and stick to a 1,000 calorie diet, and am gaining weight slowly but surely. I'd sure like to find some solution to weight gain.

My thyroid has been low functioning for years and the docs finally put me on synthroid (a year ago) but I have not seen any improvement. I have researched a few websites and have finally ordered the raw adrenals from New Zealand. I am hoping for some improvement. Echo, how has it been for you so far?

hey Echo!

Thx for posting your info!

Hmm. Its curious that you need to take this with food, because ideally levothyroxine requires you to wait 60-90 minutes before eating and to avoid vitamins, supplements, iron, calcium and other minerals, birth control pills and other meds as these all either slow or block the absorption of levothyroxine.

If you are on 137mcg of Synthroid then you mustn't have very much thyroid function left, unless your doc is giving you enuf Synth to suppress your TSH to under .5.

Synthroid is soley a T4 preparation. A healthy thyroid makes a percentage of its thyroid hormone as T3 , which you are most likely getting from the supplement... but not from your Synthroid. Which may explain why you are feeling so much better... your body doesn't have to rely on solely on peripheral conversion of T4 to T3.

Have you tried Armour? Thats a preparation derived from pig thyroids that includes T3 as well as T1, T2, calcitonin.

The diff between the thyroid tissue in Armour and the supplement that you are taking, is that the dosage of Armour is standardized, and that Armour has a long track record.

Drugs need more than money to get their products by the FDA...they need clinical trials. The problem with the FDA is the same as with every government agency, its a lumbering dinosaur, slow to respond to consumer complaints and subject to turning a blind eye to potential problems. I'd hate to see what would happen if there was no application process.

That said, everyone ultimately does hold final responsibility for their health in their own hands. Which is why its so important for everyonr educate themselves on their disease and be an active participant in their journey to wellness.

Welcome to our team.

I was diagnosed about 4 years ago, I don't remember my levels at the time, I was too busy with law school. But generally my docs have been good to keep me on the low end of the normal range.

I don't have Hashimoto's

I am currently on Synthroid 137

My doc recommended I take it as a supplement w/my synthroid according to the dosage recommendations which is 1x/day. I usually take my synthroid in the morning and the raw thyroid at noon with lunch since you have to take it with food.

My doc also said that ppl who replace their prescription thyroid with it completely take up to 4 a day but even with synthroid it is ok to take 2 if you really need to alleviate your symptoms.

So far I feel amazing!! But I would definitely recommend everyone to talk to their own doc about it.

On a side note, as an attorney who does personal injury I must make a recommendation for everyone not to put any stock in something being "FDA approved". It means nothing more for your safety, it just means a big drug company had enough money to push it through.

Echo~

I had the same amazing feeling when I finally got on Synthroid, but everyone is not me! Actually I can get that amazing feeling from Coffee, but my adrenals dicated that I don't go there anymore.

No doubt you are feeling the bump up in various hormone levels from the organs in this supplement.

A few questions so that we can learn a bit from your experience and decide if its something we'd want to use...

When you were dx'ed with hypothyroid disease, what was your TSH?

Do you have Hashimoto's?

When were you diagnosed, ie how long have you had hypothyroid disease?

What brand of traditional thyroid hormone (stuff like Armour or Synthroid) and dosage were you on when you started taking this product?

Are you just taking this product and nothing else to manage your thyroid disease?

How often did your doctor recommend you take it?

The information you provide us will help others to make an informed decision.
Thx!

I spoke to my doc about and she said that her patients who have taken it have had a lot of improvements in their symptoms with essentially no side effects.

I'm on my 2nd day and the change in how I feel is amazing. I have more energy, less fogginess in the brain, etc. I'm sure part of that is the placebo effect but so far so good.

Yikes, there's that whole mad cow disease issue, and a host of other diseases, that I'd be very wary of that may exist in this product. Not to mention ---parasites.

i agree with you on less processed and more whole food I have been educating myself on healing with food what we need ,is wholesome whole organic foods and raw veggies nand fruits ,I even do wheatgrass shots once a week i would love a wheat grass juicer good stuff.
The freeze dried stuff mentioned sounds a little scary.hormones are sensitive matters I would look more into that product as well.

hey Grams!

Sorry, for whatever reason the hyperlink wasn't working correctly, I fixed it a moment ago. The site has all the info. "lyophilized" means freeze dried.

Hey Echo!

here's a hyperlink to this product:
www.maxvite.com/284/2657/Natural_Sou
rc
es_Raw_Thyroid/product.html

This is what's in it:

Supplement Facts
Serving Size: 1 Capsule

Amount Per Serving %DV

Synergistic Complex (Thyroid Tissue, Adrenal Tissue, Pituitary Tissue, Thymus Tissue, Spleen Tissue, Kelp, Rice Bran.)
390 mg **

**Need in human nutrition has not been established.

Other Ingredients: Magnesium Stearate, Maltodextrin.

Made Without: Sugar, Starch, Preservatives, Artificial Colors or Flavoring.

NO Corn, Wheat, Yeast, Soy or Milk Derivatives.

My opinion is that its foolish to be playing around with raw organs that have not been titrated to a standardized dosage.

Kelp has a lot of iodine which irritates autoimmune thyroid disease in many cases, and is a source of arsenic. There are no numbers telling how much iodine you are recieving from the Kelp, and no indication that the dosage of the hormones derived from the various glands havr been standardized. So you have no way of knowing what you are getting from one pill to the next, or how much if any.

The hypo thyroid works best when it recieves a steady, calibrated source of exogenous hormone. You'll read plenty of stories here about what happens when peeps take their vitamins/minerals/supplements too close to their thyroid meddie so that they do not recieve their full dose.

I would not advise you or any of our team memembers take this preparation at this time.

I think a better choice would be for people to improve their nutrition by eating fresh whole foods rather than processed, and get some daily exercise.

Can you please provide the reviews of those taking this preparation? Are these reviews found only on the site that is selling this product? If so, this is a red flag.

Take care of youse~

I recently bought Natural Solutions' Raw Thyroid after doing some research online (there isn't much) and seeing that the reviews are practically all positive with ppl reporting less thyroid symptoms from day one whether they were taking it as a complete substitution for synthroid or in conjunction with it.

I was wondering whether anyone here takes it? Do you take it as a substitute or in combo with your thyroid meds? How many do you take? And what is your review??

Thanks so much in advance!!
