I was told to take my synthoid first thing in the morning, wait at least an hour before eating anything that could absorb it, and take the other meds (adrenal complex, iodril, crestor, and multi vitamin around noon.

Everybody tells me that they would love to knit, but they don't have time. I look at people's lives and I can see opportunity and time for knitting all over the place. The time spent riding the bus each day? That's a pair of socks over a month. Waiting in line? Mittens. Watching TV? Buckets of wasted time that could be an exquisite lace shawl. ~Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, At Knit's End: Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much

Please read the following articles on Synthroid and Armour, and their side effects and interactions. Many people don't realize the many things react with their meds and that they should space them 3-4 hours from the things that interfere with meds. My endo instructed me to take my thyroid meds on an empty stomach with a full glass of water with NOTHING
else at the same time!

I take mine depending on my work schedule. I work 12 hour nights, so the days I work I take it when I get up in the afternoon at least 1/2 hour before eating supper/breakfast before going to work. On the days I don't work I take it in the morning when I do get up. This works for me, my levels are where they need to be. But a rule of thumb to go buy that I tell patient's is to take it no less than 1/2 hour before breakfast, an hour is better from what I have been told, gives your body longer to absorb the medication.

What other meds are you taking with your thyroid meds. They may not work together.

After reading the posts it seems the best advice is to check with your dr., and if you have other meds you are taking, make sure they don't interfere...I feel very lucky that I only take my thyroid med at night, and my vitamins in the morning. Have a great day everyone!

I used to take them at night and then my dr. told me that I should be taking them first thing in the morning with no other meds. I'm diabetic so I have to have a snack before bedtime to keep my liver dumps down so my fasting BG in the morning is reasonable. This means I have to take the thyroid first thing in the morning after I have taken my FBG reading. I wait an hour after to take my first dose of metformin half an hour before I eat breakfast or have coffee.

The more medical problems you take meds for the harder it is to time when you take them LOL.

::hugs::

I have been taking my meds at night for about a year now....I know I can't eat right before I take them, so I have really cut down on eating before bed.

I take my meds when I wake up in the morning. By the time I shower and get off to work it's a good two hours since I take my meds so I have a light breakfast once I get into work (i.e., yogurt and fruit). I take my vitamins with my dinner, that way I remember to put vitamins out for the rest of the family. This works well and I never have to worry about it being too close to taking my levothyroxin or eating too close to taking my meds as it should be taken on an empty stomach.

All these suggestions are great ones, but you need to do what works best with your schedule and life style.

Good luck.

Taking your thyroid meds at 5 am and then going back to bed would be great. That would put time in between your other meds and meals.

I take it in the morning. Depending on how you take your vitamins, you could break them done into two groups. Am and Pm vitamins. Your pm vitamins should be stuff like the calcium, and iron or anything that shouldn't be taken directly with the thyroid meds.

If that doesn't work for you, then try taking the thyroid meds just before bed. (Always ask your doctor if you really are not sure)

Best of Luck!!!

Ok, so I was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism last month and have only been taking levothyroxine since then. I noticed the other day that the label says "Take in the Morning," but it also says "Take At Least Four Hours Before Taking Antacids or Vitamin/Mineral Supplements Containing Iron." So I went online and did some reading about when is best to take it, because I take my vitamins with breakfast (If I take them any other time of day I feel nauseous and gross all day.)

I'm getting conflicting reports on when is best to take the medication. Some say to take 1/2 to an hour before breakfast, some say 1 to two hours, etc.

I get up every morning at 5am to get my husband off to work, then I go back to bed for a few hours. I'm thinking that would be a good time to take my meds because then it will have been about 4 or 5 hours before I eat breakfast & take my vitamins. Would it be ok to take my medication then? Anyone know?
