Well, I saw a different Dr. yesterday and she had a couple of suggestions. First, I was taking Levothyroxine and she said I needed to go back on Synthroid because one with hypothyroidism should NEVER take the generic. Also, as for breakfast, she suggested I eat whatever I want and then take the pill mid-morning. I told her I thought that you had to take the pill first thing in the morning. She said No, as long as it is at the same time each day, you are alright. For the last few days, I eat at 7:30 and then take my Synthroid at 10am. I already feel much more energy so I hope this is going to work. For weight loss, she said cut back on fried food (I live in the south!) :( Also, she said no carbs with dinner or after since you can't burn them off before bed (even if you work out at night). I love eating breakfast again!!!!!! Thanks so much for all the great advice!

Hi Kae,

If you look up Quaker Quick Oats -1 minute dry - 1/2 cup serving in your nutrition tracker, there is no calcium in those.

I eat Fiber One Cereal with Yogurt during the week and eggs on the weekend. During the week I don't eat for 4 hours after I take my meds. On the weekend I'm on the family schedule. If you take Armour you can take it sublingually and not have to worry about waiting to eat.

I also eat PB on whole wheat toast or light english muffin. I add sugar-free jelly ocassionally.

I'm out the door kind of quick myself. SOmetimes, I'll boil a few eggs at the beginning of the week, and then grab one and some fruit to eat when I get to the office. If you don't like them cold, you can zap in the microwave for about 5-10 secs and knock the chill off of it.

I have to do PB or eggs, because I found once I started using this site that I was coming in very low on protein every day.

Hope this helps, and welcome!

RIZO945, Since it's Saturday and I'm off, I just made your eggs idea and it was VERY good! (Almost makes me wanna get up early during the week...almost! LOL)

SHELLPRO, I also love the wrap idea. Especially if I could make it the night before and heat it up at work...that would work great.

GOLDIE121, It is also nice to hear that I may be able to enjoy cereal in the morning again. I love cereal and currently have it as a snack while watching TV at night. (I also love chocolate milk but had give that up completely...think I'll hit the health food store today!)

Thanks again, all!

Dr. has supported my eating whole grain toast, muffins, bagel w/peanut butter & jam or jelly (low sugar of course).
I also make a great breakfast wrap- pre-cook sausage patty, lean ham or bacon, scrambled egg (also made ahead of time),fold tortilla around it & dip in picante sauce or just eat it plain.

I like the fruit smoothies with orange juice. I also add a scoop of protein powder to them, and then I am usually good until lunch time - after that four hour point has past. Another breakfast that I like (and is quick) are 2 egg whites cooked with asparagus topped with a little salsa and 2 slices of turkey bacon. On occasion I will prepare a scrambled egg using 2 whites and 1 yolk in order to keep my fat intake down and I do not add milk or cheese to it. I love breakfast so I do a lot of experimenting with different foods. I wish I could say the dame about my other meals.

I am loving all these suggestions!

My Doc said to take my pill as soon as I wake up in the morning. I am such a heavy sleeper I don't usually wake up during the night ... kinda wish I did cuz that sounds like a good idea!
I had no idea there was milk available w/o cal. so I will definitely look into that.
I can do the eggs on my days off but I am also an early riser...out the door fast kinda girl so it would be hard to do that at home before work. I can eat at which is where I have been having my BLT's.

Thanks so much for all your help. I have been feeling alone in this! I have been trying to lose weight for a few years now and the scale just keeps creeping UP! GRRR! I am hoping this site will turn things around for me. I also have appt. to get my thyroid rechecked. Thanks again!

I usually just eat a couple pieces of fruit, or a fruit only smoothie. I love OJ (no added Ca) blended with frozen berries and maybe a banana. It's pretty sweet by itself, but you could always add honey or agave syrup. Then I snack on a handful of nuts to help fill me up (I read walnuts can interfere w/ meds, not sure if it's true). I'm more of a "snacker" though, fruit, nuts and maybe some baby carrots throughout the morning until lunch.
On my days off when I don't have to leave for work by 5AM! I like to make egg scrambles with lots of veggies, topped with avocado, green onion, and halved cherry tomatoes. yum.
Cereal with "faux" milks would also be good. Almond milk is one of my favorites. It has a natural sweetness.
Hope some of our suggestions help a little.

Hi Kae,

How about scrambled eggs or egg beaters with onions, green peppers and tomatoes in a Tam-X-ico low carb whole wheat tortilla?

Can you take your thyroid meds at bedtime or during the night when you get up to use the bathroom? Then you don't have to worry about what you have for breakfast.

I take my meds during the night. That way I take them on an empty stomach and don't have anything to eat for usually 4 hours or more.

Just a thought for you.

Hi all!
I am so happy to have found this sight! I am having such trouble getting an answer to the question I have about breakfast and I hope you all can help.
I have hypothyroidism and my Dr. says not to have any calcium or grapefruit for 4 hours after taking my pill. Problem is, so many breakfast foods such as cereal/milk/yogurt/breakfast sandwiches with cheese/ and even some breads have calcium in them. So I have been eating a BLT on calcium-free bread for months each morning and am getting really tired of it. Any suggestions??? emoticon
Thanks so much!
