I can work with that. We can all send goodies to the winner! Swarm their page! It will be fun.

Create the thread as July Challenge and I'll "sticky" it.

Ok--great idea!! Funny I was just thinking ............ "Might be good to start July 1 emoticon since it is a week from Monday ............. Personally, I am getting some measurements today; then I can see down the road any changes: sometimes the scales fluctuate so much ............ esp. after a lot of wts. and ST .................. so sounds good!!

Ok, here is my "final" thought on what the challenge should be. I am thinking to just make it a July challenge, so there is a concrete starting and stopping point. It also encompasses a holiday, so for me at least it'll give me some extra motivation to be good on days that I might otherwise be even worse than I have been lately LOL!

My idea is track most things daily, then have a weekly "bonus" for the other goals category. So points would be totaled as below:

July Together We Are Stronger Challenge

Daily:
Fitness goal achieved = 100 pts
Stayed in calorie range = 100 pts
Commented on team member’s blog or gave team member a goodie = 2 pts each (max 10 pts per day)
Wrote a blog = 5 pts (max 5 pts per day)

Weekly bonuses:
Met a personal goal EVERY day of the week = 10 pts (max 20 pts per week) – needs to be something you have posted to the group as a goal (i.e. mine would be walk the dog a minimum of 2 miles daily, and drinking 10 glasses of water daily)

Sample posting/tracking would be something like this:

July 1
Fitness -
Calorie -
Comment/Goodie –
Blog –

July 2
Fitness -
Calorie -
Comment/Goodie –
Blog -

July 3
Fitness -
Calorie -
Comment/Goodie –
Blog -

July 4
Fitness -
Calorie -
Comment/Goodie –
Blog -

July 5
Fitness -
Calorie -
Comment/Goodie –
Blog -

July 6
Fitness -
Calorie -
Comment/Goodie –
Blog -

July 7
Fitness -
Calorie -
Comment/Goodie –
Blog -

Week ONE Totals:
Fitness –
Calorie –
Comment/Goodie –
Blog –
Bonus Goal Points –

Then repeat each week.

We would post our "other goals" here, as well as our daily fitness goals. For me, I have different fitness minute goals per day, so hopefully that is okay with everyone to have some variance (in other words my goal might be 30 min on M/W/F but 90 min on T/Th/Sat/Sun). I personally think keeping the comment/goodie within the team would make it more relevant. I also think we should all use our best judgement on what qualifies as a blog to get the points - I don't want to make specific "rules" for that, but for me it needs to be something that has some more significance towards my goals/motivation :-).

Comments, changes, suggestions?

Ok ............ As one member stated ....... Brain feels 'fried' ........... Unfortunately, I so identify having dealt with some extraordinary masses of public in huge gulps again this week ...................... emoticon ......... this will be simple, right??
So ............ Is it 100 pts. EACH day for meeting our daily fitness goal?
And 100 pts. daily for staying in calorie budget?
NOW THEN about the blogs ................ I don't mean to be fussy, but when I see a mere cartoon in the blog column, I may or may not find it funny ................ BUT should a blog be a bit more than one little cartoon? ............... Just a Q. to ponder ..............

I like the idea of doing 100 pts for meeting your individual fitness minute goal - that equalizes the field I think! What I was thinking with the "meeting other goals for the week" was that each person could set their own goals to meet as part of the challenge. So for me a goal might be to walk my dog at least 2 miles every day. Each week that I met the goal every day I would give myself 10 pts. I'm also thinking the calorie and fitness pts are per week - for me anyway it would be more of a motivation to know that I have to meet those goals for an entire week, rather than one day at a time, to be able to give myself the pts for it.

I like the idea of anyone who wants to participate posting their results on a daily or weekly basis, like Cathy suggested.

I was also thinking that we could make it where at the end of the month everyone who participated sent something to the winner - it doesn't need to be anything really of monetary value, unless you wanted to, but even just a special card or something. Then the "prize" would really be getting a super duper bonus in the mail at the end of the contest! Since this team is about "real life" motivation I thought that might be nice.

What do you guys think?

Deb L (to distinguish from our other Deb LOL)

I was also thinking that maybe

I like your ideas Deb (SPOONGIRLDEB) but I think the other Deb (DARLY55) has a point. I'm not sure what you mean though by meeting other goals for the week? Do you mean like drinking X amount of cups of water for the week?

I thought we could do something like this.

100 points -Getting in the amount of fitness minutes you want to achieve
100 points - Staying within your calorie range
2 pts for each comment/goodie given (max 10 pts per day)
5 pts for each blog written (max 5 pts per day)
10 pts for each week you met any other goal for the whole week (max 20 pts per week)

Week 1:
07/01: Fitness Minutes -
Calorie Range -
Comments/goodies given -
Blog -
Other Goals -

07/02: Fitness Minutes -
Calorie Range -
Comments/goodies given -
Blog -
Other Goals -

07/03: Fitness Minutes -
Calorie Range -
Comments/goodies given -
Blog -
Other Goals -

and so on...

Week 1 Totals:

Week 2:
07/07: Fitness Minutes -
Calorie Range -
Comments/goodies given -
Blog -
Other Goals -

07/08: Fitness Minutes -
Calorie Range -
Comments/goodies given -
Blog -
Other Goals -

and so on...

Week 2 Totals:

Deb (SPOONGIRLDEB) or Kitty could decide who wins or whatever.

Let me spell out a bit further, for myself, I would say to the group these are my goals:

Eat within calorie range
exercise 100 minutes per day ( and given my work situation, that is pushing hard)
drink my eight glasses of water

1 point for each goal met

Then if you want to add points for blogs, goodies, etc - that is a level field - whatever is ok.

HI guys,
Maybe I am out in left field here, but we have such a wide group of people here, it would seem very unfair to use the same goals for each person. WOuld it be possible for each to make up their own daily goals by which to earn points. For example: Kitty and Chandra exer cise the devil out of some of us, therefore say Elvis is really pushing herself at 45 minutes, and Chandra is going all out at 150 minutes, If thy state that those numbers are their daily goals, then when their on goal is met they earn a point. instead of 45 and 150 points. We are very different levels of fitness, so an across the board minute for minute would not be fair. What do you all think of personalizing this thing with our personal best - so to speak -goals.
Just a thought,
Deb

I'm in for whatever you guys work out. My fitness minutes are low, I don't think I've EVER gone over 45 for one day, but I can hold my own on the rest of it. Btw- I like the idea of keeping the comments/goodies within the group, but I'm flexible on that. Like BONNIEMARGAY I could use the motivation.

I like the point idea! Only thing with fitness minutes...I know that I have my FitBit linked to SP, and I get credit for a LOT of minutes that I wouldn't really consider "fitness minutes". So we'd all have either say that those minutes count, or come up with an alternate way of tracking. It's all going to be an "honor system" anyway, but I don't want to have any "unfair advantage" because of how I track fitness minutes!

Here are my thoughts:
1 pt for each fitness minute
100 pts for each day in calorie range
2 pts for each comment/goodie given (max 10 pts per day)
5 pts for each blog written (max 5 pts per day)
10 pts for each week you met any other goal for the whole week (max 20 pts per week)

Max pts are negotiable, I'm just trying to give everyone a fighting change...otherwise Kitty will smoke us all just in comment pts alone I think :-). Or I guess we could say each comment/goodie given to a member of this team? That might be more appropriate I guess.

I like the idea. You could do something like this:

Fitness: 1 point per minute
Health/Nutrition: 100 points per day for staying within your calorie limits everyday
Interaction: 5 or maybe just 2 points for each comment on another member's page, comment on their blog, giving a goodie, etc..

or whatever you think is appropriate.

I like the idea of having it rounded for a month. Fitness, nutrition, and support. You post it, I'll make it a sticky and we'll go for it!

That is a fascinating idea - (mind if I borrow it for another team?) - How about a month long challenge - work it with team goals, track several things... maybe fitness minutes, comments on blogs, and sparkgoodies sent - weight the small numbers and see how the numbers roll out... just a thought from the peanut gallery...

So I've been really struggling the last couple of weeks. I've been so so about my exercise and awful about my food. :( I'm thinking it's time for a friendly competition! I need something tangible and I need accountability.

I have a couple of SP exercise Dvds I'm willing to donate as part of a prize. Not exactly sure what would be a good competition though...was thinking 4 weeks of meeting personal food and exercise goals??? I don't necessarily want it to be about lbs lost although that is always good too lol.

Thoughts??? Anyone want to join me???
