Hi - I'm a newbie to Spark (Jan 7) and I have been struggling with 2 lbs in my first 2 weeks. I am a vegetarian with celiac disease (no gluten) and Sunday after a sever attack I had gall bladder disease added to the list. I'm feeling a little over whelmed with the additional diet restriction. I'm wondering if there is anyone else out there with the same restrictions/choices.

Where you live: Hermann, MO

Birthday: June 4, 1983

Favorite food: Can't resist Mexican food

Weight loss/health goals: I would love to lose 50-65 lbs. I have been hit and miss on Spark since I got pregnant with my 2nd child. I had great success with it after my first child but this time has been harder. I just want to manage my health for my family. High blood pressure and high cholesterol is bad in my family and my dad and maternal grandma are/were diabetic. I need to get a grasp on my health and maybe prevent a lot of medications and disappointment later in life.

Favorite Exercise: I love using the Nintendo Wii. Walking is always good on a pretty day and one day (once the kids are in school) I want to join a zumba class.

Tell us a bit about yourself: I'm 28. Married for 7 years (been together for 12) We have 2 kids, Austin is 4 and Mollie is 19 months. I love to scrapbook and cook. Addicted to Facebook :) And LOVE my church and church family!

GB Issues? My first attack was when I was about 12 weeks pregnant with Mollie. It lasted all through the night. Had a few attacks after that but my OB said it sounded like gall bladder but not much can be done while pregnant. So I avoided it as much as possible. Then after I had Mollie I had no problems, except diarrhea, within 30-60 minutes after I ate. But I ignored it. Then over the last couple months I've had a constant ache in my back and had one severe attack. I refused to let my husband take me to the ER because we were camping and I didn't want my parents to have to worry about the kids out there. That week I talked to my family physician and he immediately sent me for an ultrasound and it showed I as "loaded" with gall stones. I am having surgery on July 21st.

Andra, that is a sad story. I sure hope you make it through this pregnacy and that you also go through it without further gallbladder pain.

Weight loss/health goals: Since beginning my Spark journey I have lost 60 pounds in about 15 months. Overall, I would like to lose an additional 60 pounds.

Tell us a bit about yourself: I'm 32, been married for 5 years. Just found out I'm pregnant (8 weeks along). We have no children yet, this will be my 4th pregnancy, so with good thoughts we will finally bring a baby into this world.

GB Issues? I had my first ever attack on Dec 19th 2010, in the middle of the night after our Xmas party that previous night (hard to say what I ate to trigger that). The pain was one of the worst pains I have ever experienced and being pregnant with previous pregnancy issues in the past made me go to the ER. I had an Ultrasound and it turns out I am loaded with gallstones, my 1st attack lasted for about 18 hours. I had my 2nd attack about 4 days later right before Christmas Eve, another long attack and I just waited it out...again very painful and I vomited and couldn't eat a thing. Ever since then, I have been on a strict no/low fat diet and have been feeling good. I met with the surgeon but he advised I wait on gallbladder surgery since it can cause miscarriage so I'm waiting it out.

I didn't eat there before I worked there - only been there for 6 months - I am the only ONE who doesnt eat there now that I work there. That does not mean that I never ever have a McDonald's burger - I have a regular hamburger maybe twice a year with my grandma. ;o) But I am the only one I know that does not eat there on the day I work, - we get 50% off our meal up to a certain $$ amount. However, we do have healthy options on the menu now, I just choose to still eat my homemade healthy version of everything. ;o)
God Bless you!

I am Jean and live in Yale, Michigan. I am 47 years old and have 4 adult children and 7 grandchildren.
My Birthday is April 2.
My favorite food is tacos - homemade.
I hope to lose 50 pounds this year.
When I joined spark my goals did not include weight loss, but health gain; I have learned to change my diet with each health issue I deal with.
My gall bladder removal was due to a growth not an illness.
I like to walk, although I have an ankle disability.
I am currently finishing my associates degree in Sociology graduating in May. I work at McDonald's making sandwiches.
I get crazy busy, but try to log in a few times a week to Spark.

Happy New Year!

GB Issues? I have read everyone's intro here and can relate to so many of the stories! I had my gallbladder removed 8 years ago and since then I have gained 80 lbs. inspite of having recurring bouts of acid bile diarrhea. I never know what foods will set it off! I have been better in the last year but this last week it reared it's ugly head... So not pleasant!!!

Favorite food: right now? I'm thinking steamed artichokes...but I also love green chile and coffee!

Weight loss/health goals: I'd like to lose about 25 lbs. 15 would put me at my weight in college, and an extra 10 would just be nice!

Favorite Exercise: The washing machine exersise on Ana Brett and Ravi Singh's Kundalini Yoga for Beginners and Beyond!

About me: I am a technician working for a Conservation Agency. I just started this job last year and adapting to a job that is 80% office work and 20% field was hard because my previous job was the opposite. I also started an 80mile/day commute which was stressfull on my body because suddenly I had to get up that much earlier, and I think stress may have caused my GB issues.

GB Issues? About a year ago I all of the sudden gained about 15 lbs, just bam! out of nowhere. I was in the process of moving, looking for a job, working weird hours and dealing with a horrible roommate (and broken friendship). I experienced GB problems all winter, but I didn't know what was wrong with me. I would get horribly bloated, and diareaha, and horrible stinky gas (like skunk-like). It was really embarrasing because we have a small office and I couldn't hide it. I tried stashing an air freshener under my desk. I couldn't figure out what to eat because everything made me hurt. A greasy cheeseburger would do the same thing to me as a salad with a baked sweet potato.
Finally I talked to my natropathic doctor and she put me on a relaxing formula, digest ease formula, and dandelion root capsules. I have felt so much better since then. I don't know if all of my digestive problems are related to GB but I'm exploring the digestive groups to see where I fit in. I've been eating a lot of protein since carbs in the morning have been bothering my stomach, but I'm getting that "grinding" stomach sensation again, so maybe its time to look a little deeper into my diet.

I had a similar experience, where it seemed like everything I was eating made me sick. Instead of vomiting though, mine was more bloating, "grinding" in the stomach, and really awful gas. I see a natropathic doctor and she had me start taking an herbal digest ease blend, and dandelion root supplement to help my gall bladder produce bile. Maybe something like this would work for you too? I would recommend consulting a natropath if you have access to one, it was very helpful for me!

Favorite food: Duck Curry (from local restaurant)

Weight loss/health goals: loose 10lbs (possibly 15), tone up, get awesome abs, develop a deep appreciation for life

Favorite Exercise: Ab Ripper X (from P90x)

About me: I am married, a grad student in the field of counseling/psychology, and I love to laugh!

GB Issues? I have always had this random nausea. I never really thought about it until around last year when my nausea got so bad that I was vomiting everything I ate. I did my best to survive on fruit smoothies. I got down to a very unhealthy 129lbs. I guess I was lucky but I was almost immediately diagnosed with gallbladder disease. I did not have the usual gallstones but Biliary Dyskinesia, which pretty much meant my gallbladder pretty much quit working. I got it removed in Oct of 2009. So far I have had two periods when the symptoms come back and I am vomiting constantly and then it'll go away. My main problem right now is trying to figure out what foods will be ok for me to eat, and still maintain healthy nutrition. Fat, of course, is a big catalyst for problems, but I also have problems with vegetables and whole grains! Kind of leaves me nowhere!

GB Issues? my GB issues started in 2008. the usual, pains and nausea. my doctor was stubborn and didn't want it to come out. 2009 i got a new doctor, she still didn't think it was that bad and wouldn't schedule surgery. all the while i was getting sicker and sicker, until July of 2009 when i was in the ER (again- i had been in the ER so many times because of the stupid thing) for terrible pain and my ER doctor asked if i wanted a referral to a surgeon. i was terrified but ready to end the pain, so i said yes and in August of 2009 i had my gallbladder taken out. now i still have pains where the gallbladder was, and i can't eat fatty food at all!

Favorite food: Chicken fajitas

Weight loss/health goals: Lose 100+ pounds. Lower my cholesterol and improve my lung function (asthma).

Favorite Exercise: Is it really possible to have a favorite exercise? The exercise I least loathe is walking.

Tell us a bit about yourself: I'm 30 and was a full-time college student until last week. I had to withdraw for the semester because of my gallbladder issues sending me to the hospital repeatedly. When I graduate, I intend to teach high school English. In the meanwhile, I'm an aspiring novelist and live alone with my two cats.

GB Issues? I've had recurring back pain for over six months. The pain was intense, and localized to the right side of my back, right around the bottom of my rib cage. Pain meds, heat, ice...none of it did anything for the pain. The attacks would last anywhere from 12 to 36 hours, during which time I could accomplish nothing. They started out really spread out, but gradually increased in frequency until I had pain more days than I didn't. Also, as the pain became more regular, I started to have regular bouts of nausea/vomiting/diarrhea. Those didn't necessarily line up with the back pain, so I didn't connect the dots. I attributed the back pain to poor posture or sleeping in bad positions regularly, and I thought the nausea/stomach issues were just bugs that were going around.

Two weeks ago, after having a more intense spell of back pain than normal, I woke up one morning nauseated and my urine was very dark, like there might be blood in it. At that point, I decided it was time to go to the emergency room. They did a bunch of tests and found a gallstone blocking my bile duct, causing liver fluids to backflow into my urine, and my gallbladder was inflamed. Two days later, I had my gallbladder removed and then went home.

Three days later, all of my previous symptoms were back as bad as ever, so I went back to the emergency room. I was admitted again, and had an ERCP. They had initially thought the gallstone was passing on its own, but either it was back, or another one was there. I've now got a stint in the bile duct which will have to come out in a couple of months, but I'm doing much better other than the random, sudden bouts of diarrhea while I try to learn what foods my body can and can't handle digesting.

Weight loss/health goals: Go from 188 to 110 pounds. Joined SP in October. Weighed in today at 159.5 pounds.

Favorite Exercise: I hate exercising. :-) The workouts I do, though, usually involve the elliptical, weights, walking and gardening.

Tell us a bit about yourself: I never know what to say when asked to tell others about myself.

GB Issues? Woke up the morning of 25 May because I was dreaming a horse was kicking me in the right side. The pain became progressively worse during the day until that night when I could not move without screaming.

Ultrasound revealed gall stones and polyps. I have a consult with my primary physician next week. Meanwhile, have been told to stop eating foods high in fat, cholesterol or that are fried.

Where you live: Australia

Birthday: 2nd August, 1977 (31 at the moment)

Favorite food: Anything Italian, and cheese (although I'm not allowed to eat it at the moment)

Weight loss/health goals: I've been told by my specialist that I need a virtually fat-free diet as well as exercise for my gallbladder. I've joined to track my fat intake and other nutrients (I'm a vegetarian so protein is a problem) and my exercise. I'm already at a healthy BMI which makes me very lucky, but I would like to lose a little bit of weight and increase my fitness after being sick for so long.

Favorite Exercise: walking (preferably outside, but the treadmill works too), boxing, yoga/tai chi

Tell us a bit about yourself: I'm not sure what to say here. I work at a university, I love playing the piano, I'm addicted to my computers and the sci-fi channel, with a bit of CNN thrown in there too, and I'm fairly shy even online.

GB Issues? After being sick with chronic nausea for the past 14 months, my specialist finally managed to diagnose me a few days ago. I have acalculous cholecystitis, with a HIDA result of 16%. My doctor has advised that removing the gallbladder might make my symptoms worse, so we're trying diet and exercise to control it before resorting to surgery. I'm planning to see a dietitian in the next few weeks to make sure that I'm getting everything my body needs, in the right way.

Where you live: Hattiesburg, MS

Birthday: Feb. 13th... I'll be 22!

Favorite food: Cookies are my weakness. My favorite good food is salad drenched in balsamic vinegar.

Weight loss/health goals: My goal weight is 155. It's a weight I think I can maintain, and I think I will look good at that weight. Once I get there and maintain it for awhile, I'm going to re-evaluate and decide if I want to lose more weight or if I'm happy.

Favorite Exercise: treadmill, racquetball, and swimming.

Tell us a bit about yourself: Well, I'm finishing up college right now. Trying to finish all my work (including a thesis) and getting ready for grad school is LOTS of fun and stress. So, to battle the stress, I signed up to take racquetball. I used to play sports a lot in high school, but this is the first organized athletic activity I've done since then! The exercise is really helping with my stress level, not to mention helping me prioritize a lot better. Now I'm working out 5-6 days of the week for usually an hour or more. My energy level is insane. I love it.

GB Issues? I've had two attacks within the past 2 weeks. One lasted for more than 5 hours, and eventually had me in the E.R. I was mainly freaked out because the pain was like nothing I'd ever experienced before. No nausea or vomiting, just pain. They told me it was either ulcers or my gallbladder. I had another one a few nights ago, after the SuperBowl. My boyfriend and I looked up the symptoms of gallbladder attacks and sure enough, I had almost all of them. Luckily, like I said, no nausea or vomiting. After about an hour or two of pain, we were going to go to the E.R., but after we were in the car for 10 minutes, the pain went away.

So... I've been watching my diet and seem to be preventing attacks (though seriously, the gas from this? I know, too much info, but if I can't be honest here...). I'm going to have an ultrasound soon to check things out. I hope I find out that I can take care of things with diet, because I REALLY want to avoid the surgery (and side effects) if I can at all manage it.

Favorite Food: Most of the foods I am not supposed to eat.

Weight loss goals: I am just getting started but need to loose 95 lbs. I hope to correct some health problems by loosing weight, and be able to wear cute clothes!

Favorite Exercise: Pilates and hiking with my Husband.

About myself: I am happily married - 21 years. We have an 18-yr old daughter, and a 15-yr old son. I decorate wedding cakes, do cross stitch, sew, and lots of other things. I have been a legal secretary (but not currently working), and dental assistant (years ago).

GB Issues: I have had discomfort and sore ribs for several years, progressively getting worse. It finally became painful enough to see a doctor about a year ago which resulted in many tests and a diagnosis of gall bladder disfunction - it doesn't eject bile when it should or in sufficient amounts. I have had a couple of "attacks" lasting for several hours. My doctor does not want to take it out until I develop an infection or stones, so I am on a 6-month recall for ultrasound to keep watch. I accidentally met with a doctor at a local health food store who did some on-the-spot blood tests (very interesting to see your own blood under a microscope) and he was better able to explain to me what was happening and why, and what to do about it. The 2 main things I've been doing that are most helpful are to avoid the foods that trigger pain or attacks (for me: greasy fried foods, bell peppers, "white" foods, and an herbal supplement called Moducare made from pine), and to take enzymes with meals.

Where you live: Kansas

Birthday: Aug. 28th

Favorite food: Used to be lasagna, now I can't even touch the stuff :(

Weight loss/health goals: I need/want to lose weight! I'm kinda being "forced" into it now!

Favorite Exercise: I like the treadmill and the bike. I have a membership to our local gym, now if only I could be well enough to go!

Tell us a bit about yourself: My husband and I have been married for over 7 1/2 yrs now, & I'm a stay at home mom to 3 little ones. Daughter 7, and sons, a 3 (4 next month) yr old and a 9 mo. old. I definitely stay busy, and also can't be sick, it's not in my calendar! (meaning when mom's sick, can't take a day off!!) lol

GB Issues? I have been extremely nauseous, to the point of throwing up quite a few times. My heart will race, my chest starts pounding (thought I was going to have a heart attack!!) My dr is 99% convinced that it's gall bladder disease (which runs VERY highly in my family), and wants me to treat it w/ diet until I'm willing to have surgery or it gets better... She knows how impt nursing is to me, and I don't want to give it up (that's why we're postponing the surgery so that I can continue nursing...) Although, with the severe sickness I've dealt with these last 2 days, I just might change my mind. It's getting horrible.

Just like someone else said..I wake up nauseous, no matter what I eat or drink I'm STILL nauseous (even w/ the prescription the dr gave me to make it go away, it's not working!).. I feel like I'm just sick all day long, and that's tough with 3 little ones!!!
If anyone has any other suggestions for the nauseousness, I'm all ears!!
Ok, enough about me :) Thanks for reading all this! :D

Hi Zena! I had my GB out 5/5/08 and STILL have those issues you speak of. In fact, I just got over a 5 day bout of nausea that would come in waves. I have huge issues with ground beef--most days I can't eat it without having bouts of diarrhea, but I ate it Monday night with no problems. There is no rhyme or reason to it, it just is. I'm sorry to hear about your stones. I wasn't plagued with them--my GB was just in the process of shutting down and had an ejection fraction of 6%. I wish you the best of luck with your doctor and your problems. If you need to vent, I'm here.

GB Issues?
Passed a stone 6/6/08; thought I was having a heart attack! Pain was in my left shoulder and back, under my rib cage and left side. After doing a stress test and finding out my heart is perfectly healthy - I was referred to a GI. I've endured multiple tests, feel queasy all the time, and can hardly eat. I've lost 10 pounds in 5 weeks (2 of which I lost between Monday and Friday of last week). I'm scared, tired and just want it out!!!

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one nauseaus all the time. I passed my first gall stone June 6, 2008 and have been miserable ever since! I just don't feel right, get sick at anything (even water) and have pains that come and go. The doctor - instead of removing the darn thing - is running test after test. I'm convinced it's for the money$$$$$emoticon
Did you find that there was no rhyme or reason to the queasy feeling? I can eat something one day and be fine, the next day - ill! I wake up feeling ill, go to bed feeling ill and can't stand it.

Weight loss/health goals: My goals were to get my HBA1C and triglycerides at a normal level. I did that through diet and exercise. Now I would like to lose about 20 more pounds.

Favorite Exercise: Dancing

Tell us a bit about yourself: I am a 32 yo 7th grade science teacher. I am recently married (only 2 1/2 weeks), have one daughter age 10 and two step-kids ages 13 and 8.

GB Issues? The day before my wedding I had some nausea and diarrhea. The night OF the wedding I was vomiting. Within the next 4 days I had lost 5 pounds and was still nauseated. I went to my doctor who immediately referred me to the GI specialist. Now I still get nauseated easily, but have taken to eating smaller, more frequent meals. I go 4/23 for a Hyda scan to see how my GB is functioning (if at all).

Favorite Exercise: Curling

Tell us a bit about yourself: 32 years old and single. Been overweight most of my life. I was my goal weight in 2004, but gained 30 lbs.

GB Issues? I was nauseus with heart burn and generally feeling miserable for most of 2007. Right around Thankgiving, I went to the DR. for a heart burn prescription and was told it was a GB issue causing the Heart Burn. I went on a low fat diet, but around Christmas I was so bad that no matter what I ate I was sick w/ pain. The GB attack would not go away. On 12/24 I had a GB Scan, but even before I had the results I went to the ER on 12/26. My GB was removed that day (the DR called me while I was in the ER and said the GB had stopped functioning). Since then I've had issues eating foods and bowel issues too. I am much better than before I had the GB removed though and I'm glad it's out.

Favorite food: Everything I can't have right now! Most notably, chocolate.

Weight loss/health goals: I want to lose 40 lbs. I also want to start running. I like the way I feel when I exercise. Also striving for 10,000 steps a day.

Favorite Exercise: Walking and running. Anything really fun to do like Ice skating! Biking is fun too except I don't have a bike.

Tell us a bit about yourself: I'm 25, SAHM of 2 beautiful kids. Married for 2nd time almost 2 years now. Very happy. :-)

GB Issues? It's been acting up for a month now. My mom had issues with hers last summer and had it removed. I had a really bad attack on monday and was finally diagnosed with GB stones then. I was pretty certain that GB stones was what was wrong with me and in fact, told my hubby we should play the lottery if I was wrong (because we would probably win it then! lol). Waiting for financial aid to kick in so that we can go to MCV and get the procedure done (no insurance. It's too expensive). Either that, or wait until it flares up again, whichever happens first. I'm eating NO FAT now to try to keep it from killing me, but that diet is excruciating in and of itself. I almost WISH that I would just go on ahead and have another attack so that I can just roll on up to the hospital and scream at them "TAKE IT OUT NOW". That wouldn't help though, so.... I'll just go the safe route and try to wait until everything falls into place. Any suggestions about what to eat/not eat until the surgury and beyond would be very much appreciated. Thanks all. -K

Weight loss/health goals: Less of me please! Only 30 pounds though.

Tell us a bit about yourself:I'm a full time student and my fiancée lives all the way in Italy. (Best way to ruin a diet: Italy and a boyfriend that cooks) No kids, I live with my roommate and our cat, Smokey. When I get married (in May) my roommate gets the cat. It was our compromise.

GB Issues? I'm going crazy with the lowfat diet I'm on but my surgery isn't till March 13 (whooo spring break!!! Spring break with my mom and pain meds!!) I have gall stones and since I'm so young, they decided that it was best to just remove it.

Weight loss/health goals: I need to lose about 65 lbs.

Tell us a bit about yourself:
Uh, I'm 22 and living with my boyfriend of a year. We both suffer from acid reflux. Though his is from my cooking. His mother has Crohn's Disease, so her husband learned to cook bland foods. I come along and shake up the world with my foods that have taste to them, so he's adjusting to my cooking.
Uhm, I'm getting my highschool online because being in school is too stressful for me. I intend to be a caterer someday. I just need to lose weight and resist the temptation to eat the sweets I make.

GB Issues?
I had my gall bladder removed when I was 19, after seven months of in and out hospital runs, scopes, ultra sounds and such. They even cut the duct where the stones pass to help me but that healed over in like a week. It's pointless if you have a fast healing rate, really.
Gall bladder problems run in the family, so I'm not the first and won't be the last.
Oh and don't let them reduce you to eating nothing but baby food. It's far from nutritious. I was hungry, all the time.

vive quasi cras moriturus.

Favorite Food: Cheese - which is probably why I'm having gallbladder issues!

Weight Loss: Need to lose about 100 lbs

Favorite Exercise: Walking in the woods - though I live in the urban jungle

About Me: Single in long term relationship with boyfriend - no kids

GB Issues: had my first gallbladder attack in Mid-October and had a couple more episodes in November where the excrutiating pain would keep me awake all night long. An ultrasound revealed I had gallstones. I have my gallbladder surgery schedule for January 3. 2008. I'm a bit scared as I have never had surgery before or been put under or anything like that.

I'm joining this group to get information on the surgery and if there are any lessons learned from what to do/eat or how to prepare as well as what to expect and how to eat both immediately after the surgery as well as going forward. Any tips or advise would be very helpful.

Thanks!
