Found a great site called skinnytaste.com which offers recipes with nutrition information. Thanks to them, we were able to have breakfast, Sante Fe stuffed peppers for lunch (delicious) and Dad's Cauliflower soup this evening -- all well under 500 calories for the day.

100g raw of chicken, fish or steak; plus 2 cups of cabbage microwaved with fennel seeds, or of broccoli, silverbeet, or lettuce, seasoned with herbs, and an apple and an orange = under 500 calories and gives you 5 freggies and enough protein for satiety, plus a bit of variety.
I cook my chicken pieces in lemon juice and thyme or oregano, and freeze portions to heat up in the microwave at lunch or dinner time. When I cook steak, I cut up and weigh the 100g pieces before I cook, and do several pieces together, perhaps spread with garlic or mustard, eat one, pop the rest in the freezer in individual packs; one little cooking session gives me three or four fasting sized meals.

Good for you guys who are staying on target with the fasting! I'm not doing well with it. I've allowed errands and happenstance and LIFE to get in the way of my fast days. Back to work to get back on track!!

I'm with you on the cleanse effect, L-A. On fasting days I have water and green tea until 2-3, then a lt snack (small sw potato or greek yogurt) and then protein and veggies for supper. I don't worry much if I go over 500 but I have no sweets, grains, wine or processed foods.
On my non fasting days I do give myself the luxury of sweets, but on my fasting days I limit myself to protein and vegetables and salads. I figure that my fasting days are a way to 'cleanse' my system, and it would undermine the cleaning if I eat sweets or processed foods of any kind. That's my opinion anyway. Others may certainly feel differently.

I'm trying different menus on my fast days. Yesterday I had coffee with 1% milk for breakfast and decided to not eat lunch and save my 450 calories left for dinner so I didn't have to worry so much about going over. For dinner I had 3 scallops cooked in less than a tablespoon of oil and butter mixture, broccoli, and a salad with salsa for dressing. I figured it was less than 400 calories but not sure so didn't have a 100 calorie fudge bar for dessert.
