I have learned that I stay more focused and motivated being a leader figure. It makes me feel good to know Im helping others. If I wasn't in the position to set a good example for the team I prob would've kept on gaining and I would've been on & off on here.

What I've learned about myself is that there is hope and that I can change. I have always had a hard time sticking with goals when things got tough or didn't go like I wanted it to go, whether it's weight loss or anything else.

I have learned that I don't always have to be perfect and because of that, when I slip or fall, I just get up, dust myself off and keep going! My perfectionism kept me fearful of failure and stuck.

I have learned that in my imperfection, there is freedom and endless possibilities!

What I've learned about myself since joining SP: That with the right amount of motivation, determination, dedication and the support of friends even ones I have never met in person I can accomplish anything.

you go Penny. I've never had the urge to run, mainly because you see people running and the looks on their faces always look pained. But i decided to try it anyways and i have a running app on my iphone and I'm training for a 5k right now and am having a blast. Those people aren't in pain just working hard ( LOL ) emoticon

I probably should have amended the name of this topic a little and said What YOU'VE learned about yourself since joining SP...my purpose for starting this thread was not just to tell what I have learned about myself but for everyone to share their own experiences and what they have learned about themselves. I guess I didn't make that completely clear. I very much appreciate the encouragement I have been getting since the original post, so thank you, but
I would love to hear about the INTERNAL success you've been having! emoticon

What a great accomplishment!! I know if you stay positive it will get you anywhere. I also just started a walk/run program, and in my 2nd week. I am not doing much running and the very little I am doing, I enjoy thoroughly. But I am going to follow the program and see where it takes me. So keep up the great job, and stay positive. emoticon emoticon

Good for you Penny. I have never been a runner, nor do I aspire to be one. At my age I just want to stay fit, and I have learned that posting my workouts helps me with that.

I don't know if I have shared this on any of the threads here but I've shared it with my partners, but I joined one of Spark People's 5K training programs. They have several. I was a track runner in junior high and a little in high school but it wasn't something I ever kept up with. I've ALWAYS wanted to "be a runner" that's just been a burning desire in me for such a long time, but it was something I put off until I was thin. "Once I lose all the weight, then I can run. Once I lose the weight, then I can train for a race." Well, I realized that it's never to soon to train for something like that and the only one holding me back was me....I wanted to be a runner so I just decided to be one. I just completed my first week on the training program and you know what I learned about myself?
That I'm stronger than I realized emoticon ...I have more determination than I realized. emoticon Because while the first day was a little tough, the second day of training I battled sore muscles and fatigue and wanted to quit half way through, but I kept going and finished the day. I realized that I can be a runner, I will be a runner and I don't have to be 140 pounds to do it...I can be anything I want. emoticon
