It is now the last day of the year and I need to post! I have been very good with drinking at least 10 cups of water per day. I am still tracking my foods, but I did slack off on Christmas Day. As for exercise, well, that is still my downfall. I did manage to get in an extra 1000 steps about 5 times over the past two weeks, so that is great!
I am the leader of another team and the challenge for January is to get in at least 20 minutes of exercise 3 times per week during January. Now that I am tracking again, I can concentrate on exercise more.
Thank you all for the support and the encouragement this month. It has helped a lot even if I haven't shown it much. Sorry!

So...what is January's challenge for the Class of April 22-28????

How is everyone doing this week? I was slacking on water, but I made up for it yesterday and am back on track. I've been getting my cardio and ST in, though!

Sure, I'll Sparkmail the recipe. We don't eat it very often, but it is SUCH a special treat when Mom makes it! :)

Hummus is good, isn't it? It's pretty healthy, too. Lots of protein.

I'm making lasagne another day this week. I have to make the sauce vegetarian this time since my son is home. I'm planning to brown mushrooms in olive oil and add those to the sauce.

I love key lime pie. It's one of my husband's favorites and I've never made it. Would you mind sharing your mom's recipe? I know it's not low cal or anything, but cutting small pieces makes it an OK dessert!

Have a great Christmas eve everyone!!

Sounds good! Quite different from the normal "American" Christmas fare! Although we are not having traditional foods for our feast--my mom is making her wonderful lasagna! I love any lasagna, but Mom's is definitely the best! :) And her key lime pie for dessert--yum! :) I shall have to walk many, many miles on the treadmill when dinner is over. :-D

Well, our meal consists of the following family favorites:

Pita bread (I prefer whole wheat)
Hummus
Baba Ghannouj (an eggplant dip kind of like hummus)
Tabbouleh (a salad with bulgur wheat, parsley, green onions, tomatoes and a lemon mint dressing)
Armenian String cheese
Feta cheese
Alfonso olives
Shariyah - a rice pilaf made with egg noodles browned in butter and rice
Stuffed grape leaves - one with meat and rice and one with rice, currants and pinenuts for our son who is eating vegetarian)
Kibbe - a kind of meatloaf made with meat, bulgur, onions, and pinenuts
Yogurt
For dessert:
Baklava
Sometimes I make a dish I cannot spell which is made with a thin pancake cooked on one side, filled with mozzarella cheese and folded in half, then fried and served with a lemon syrup. Very expensive caloriewise. I've heard you can bake it instead and I may try that this year. This dish is about the only fried thing I will eat anymore.

I would love to hear what is in a Middle Eastern Christmas meal:)
I'm having a hard day with water, so I'll have to cram it all in before bedtime. I'm going to go do yoga in the basement ... it's been a difficult day with the kids and I could really use the time to find my patience again. Days like this make it hard to eat right. I end up eating while I stand by the kitchen counter, shoveling it in. As a result, my calorie bank is empty by 5:PM. emoticon

Here it is just 2 days until Christmas! I'm off to the grocery store to buy the last few things I need for making our Christmas Eve middle eastern meal. I'm making some of the dishes today so I don't have so much to do tomorrow.

How is everyone? Water is still a struggle for me. I've been so busy that I keep forgetting.

Kehwie, Sorry to hear about all the stress you've have to deal with in December. I've been down that road many times, and I totally understand emotional eating. Don't be too hard on yourself. Take a lot of deep breaths, and remind yourself that when everything around you seems a bit out of control, your health is the one thing over which you have total control. Best of luck to you and your family.

Hi, I haven't posted here since our starting date-- Just moved on to different groups. I've been doing a mini-challenge (3 wk) in the calorie cycling team. On it we have to drink 10 glasses of water a day, eat three servings of whole grain fiber, have at least 21-30 grams of fiber a day (depending on age and gender) keep sodium intake under 2400 mg. You get a point for each of those items. Then you get a point for every 15 min of strength traing a day (up to an hour)-- a point for every 30 min of cardio (up to 2 hours0. Anyway you can get up to 25 points a day. It has really helped me to focus and to learn to find new ways to fit in exercise. At work I usually walk on breaks for 15-20 min with a couple of the girls. Since we are drinking so much water I run to the bathroom a lot, so we have a set of 5 lb. weights in the rest room. We pick out one exercise a day and do it every time we use the rest room. (We did lunges the other day and I'm still sore.) Anyway I thought I would just throw out my 2 cents worth. Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas.

That's the way to regroup, Kehwie! Keeping up the water is great and recognizing where you're going off track is even better. Now you know how to correct to get back on track. Looking forward to hearing about your walking workout today!!

Ugh. I've gained a little. I'm doing better on the water--not perfect, but better. But I'm not doing so well on the exercise. And it SHOWS. I think I have some emotional eating thrown in there as well (hubby lost job first of December, so it's been a rough month). And all that adds up to a gain. Sadly, even though I'm bummed about the number on the scale, I want to drown my sorrows in egg nog and chocolate chip cookies--NOT helpful!!! :-p

I am feeling positive about a couple of things though--1) my pants still fit!! I joined SP in the first place because they didn't. 2) The gain isn't as bad as it could be. I am not back up to my starting weight, so I don't have to start over or anything like that. 3) I AM doing a whole lot better in the water department! Keeping a water bottle with me (I like Fly Lady's) is really helping! :)

Gonna try to fit in a walking workout today, and see if I can get back on track. :-D

It's Friday! I can't believe Christmas is almost here! I have just a few last minute things to get. Our budget is pretty small this year, so I have to be careful. Mostly I need little things for stockings.

I went to the gym to begin the trial membership. I have one free session with a personal trainer as part of the package and I'm going to that today. I've had a hard time getting my water in - mostly because I forget to carry my cup with me. I'm trying to remember to do that today!

You are getting so close to goal!! How exciting!! I know what you mean about high sodium foods. Eating out is the worst! You can get a whole day's worth of sodium in one entree!! Good for you on upping your water!

Hi everyone. I am drinking enough water, but I too am taking in too much sodium. So many of the foods that I eat that are low in fat are so high in sodium (pre-packaged beans and rice, salsa, etc.) So I am having to increase my water even more to help flush out the sodium. I'm feeling a bit water logged. I'm off to the gym to help off-set the pre-menstrual munchies. Hope everyone is having a good week. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi, everyone! Today is my weigh in day and I'm up a pound which is good because I am at the way low end of my maintenance range. I've been in maintenance for 2 months now.

I had a couple of days where I had to drink a quart of water just before bed to get my 8 cups in. That's not a good trend, so I've really been working on getting my water in earlier in the day. I also had a couple of days of high sodium intake. It only takes going out to eat once to go over recommended sodium in a day. Why do restaurants have so much salt in their food?

Exercise is on track, so overall I'm doing OK this week. How about you?

Pauline,
Thanks for the reminder to post here. I hadn't forgotten. I have just been very ill and not able to get online for almost a week.
As for my December stuff, I am drinking plenty of water. A minimum of 10 cups a day, usually much more. I have been tracking my food in my WW journal diligently every day. I have not exercised yet due to the illness, but I hope to get back on track this week. I am feeling better. Tomorrow I am going for a massage and facial which should help me feel even better. Even through the illness I was eating regularly, I just couldn't move around much. I managed to lose 2.4 pounds this past week thanks to tracking my food! (I am just glad it wasn't due to being sick.)

Have a great weekend everyone!

I've started making sure I drink two glasses of water (it's really just one BIG glass) before I get to have my caffiene in the morning. It actually helps me wake up and takes the edge off the ravenous hunger that I seem to have each morning. Giving up late night eating has left me very hungry come sunrise. emoticon

I also did my yoga yesterday and walked today. :) Whoo-hoo!

How's this for an idea ... everytime we get an email from the Do it in December challenge forum, drink a glass of water right then. I've started drinking two glasses of water for every diet soda I drink (yes, I am still drinking way too much soda). It's cutting down on my soda intake. emoticon

I've been good drinking the 64 ounces of water a day,
but haven't quite got the exercise down. Our Xmas party is this Saturday so I've kind of been getting ready for that. Once that's done I can go back to a normal way of life. Our hot water heater broke Sunday evening, which didn't help, but it's fixed now so I can shower. It's funny how you take the really important stuff - like hot water - for granted until you don't have it. Wishing everyone well in all their endeavors. Will try to get more exercise in so I can try to motivate everyone else with my good behavior. Wish me well.

I'm down 2 lbs this week. I've been good on water the last few days and I've gotten 3 workouts in.

I am doing better on drinking water! I'm not up to 8 cups yet, but I HAVE been consistantly drinking 5-6. And for me, this is AMAZING. I've got a workout scheduled for tomorrow, so I may survive the holiday season! :)

Hi everyone! I am checking in, and am doing well. This season is soooo busy. I have conquered my water problem with a water filter and refilling the bottles so I don't run out. I was stuck at 225 for a long time but as of this morning I weighed in at 222. I think its all the running around. A friend took me to NY city to see the Rocketts and we walked all over Manhatten! Just the fact that I could do it was a HUGH thing for me. We had a blast! I know I am not at goal yet, but people already treat me with more respect. It's like becoming a human again. Thanks to all for your support and have a Wonderful safe "fat free" Holiday. emoticon

Just checking in ... water intake has been okay, and I've made it to the gym 2x this week so far. The calorie cycling FoodFromAFar suggested seemed to work and I've finally broken through this plateau. Is anyone in the challenge a vegetarian? emoticon

Hi everybody, I hope your months are going well!

I have to admit, I've haven't had any time to dedicate to the challenge so far. I know I'm staying on top of my water intake, but between final exams, work, homework, and the upcoming holidays, I've been hard pressed to find a moment for myself!

I'm really hoping to get into the challenge for the second half of December and dedicate myself to it. I've done too much stress eating over the past month and want to get back into shape.

And many thanks to Foodfromafar for keeping in touch with me and all the other challenge members and sending out reminders to come check in. I appreciate it so much!!

OK, I'm making real progress on my water intake! I got in 9 plus cups yesterday. emoticon I've also exercised twice this week (cardio) and once for ST! emoticon

I think we should pick a day for updating for the challenge. How about Wednesdays since it's midweek? Then everyone should plan to check in at least on Wednesday to report how water (8 cups per day), exercise (3x per week) and weigh ins are going. You don't have to post your weight unless you want to; you can just post the change (ie lost 1 lb or gained 1 lb)

Hope you're all having a great week so far! We got the lights on the tree last night and will put the ornaments on today!! emoticon

I know I do. I have to be intentional about what I'm going to eat. It helps if I plan out my evening meal and snack ahead of time. That way I know what I decided on and that it fits what is left in my calorie bank. I have been known to input (and delete) several different snack options so I can pick the one that best fits my remaining calories!

Great job on the water and workout!!

I got my water and workout in today ... I've hit my hardest part of the day right now. It's 4:30 and I've got 400-600 calories left for the day, so I don't want to blow it munching mindlessly. I'm working in front of the computer today, so it's hard to resist the peanuts and pretzels that the kids are snacking on, and I honestly don't think I can eat another salad. emoticon Anyone else hit the wall this time of day? emoticon

That is a great idea, Larsonam! Making something a routine is the best way to form a habit! I've heard the idea to drink a small glass of water every time you go to the bathroom to help form the habit of drinking more, too.

Kehwie, I can understand not remembering to drink. The only way I know how to solve it is I carry a quart size water cup (an old Tupperware one) with me wherever I go. If I have it with me, I do drink. I try to empty it 3 times in a day.

I've started drinking a small 6 oz glass of water everytime one of my kids asks me for something to drink. It's not a ton at one time, and still adds up. Plus, it helps me abate the mass amounts of diet soda that I drink way too much of. emoticon

Well, here's hoping that next week goes a bit better! Unfortunately, I have made two critical errors. I have been short on my water (more on that in a minute) and I have done one of the very things SP talks about in an article: confused being busy with being active. I have been logging extra hours at work, and I'm exhausted, but I have only managed one actual workout. :(

Hey, here's a question for you, and it may sound odd but here goes. How do you remind yourself to drink water throughout the day? I honestly do not remember to drink! It's not just water; I don't drink anything! Then right before bed, I'm suddenly dying of thirst. I'll drink 2 or 3 glasses of water then, but obviously that's not enough to make up for the whole day! So if you have some great ideas on how to remind myself that I need to drink, please share! I have no idea why I can't remember to drink! :-p

I haven't had a good couple of days for water intake. Thursday I was shopping all day with a personal shopper and I didn't carry water with me - bad idea. Yesterday, I was so swamped with getting back after missing a whole day of work that I wasn't as diligent as I need to be with drinking my water. Today, I am making the extra effort to be sure to drink 12 glasses! I'm making some hot green tea now to start my day off right!! emoticon

My weigh in this week showed me just under my goal range (103-108) so I am happy with that. I've been maintaining for 7 weeks now!! I didn't exercise yesterday, but I must've walked for several hours on Thursday. I was in the mall for 8 hours!!

I have a baby shower to go to today. I will eat a healthy snack before going, fill my plate up with veggies and fruit leaving room for maybe one small dessert item. That's my plan...

How is everyone doing? Let's have a roll call!!

Hi everyone! Count me in also. I always get in at least 8 cups of water each day. I have still been weighing in each week, but at WW not here. I have been like many of you these past few months, especially Noisylove. I too go to school full time, my grandmother passed away, and business has been very hectic at home and with more travel than usual. Last week I started tracking my food again (for WW) and this week it is time to get back on the treadmill 3 times per week. I will also post my +- weight gain/loss for the week as opposed to my weight. (I like the fact my chart shows goal!) I hope that is okay with everyone!

So far this week: 10-14 cups of water per day and down 0.6 pounds, no exercise (yet).

Snowblowing certainly does count!

Log it as "Snow Blower: Walking" in the Fitness Tracker. 2+ hours will give you many cardio points!

Good for you on the water and Leslie Sansone! I do WATP, too!!

Good Morning Ladies:

Just wanted you to know my status so far. Monday I drank(?) my 64 ounces of water, and walked two miles with Leslie Sansone which took approx. 30 minutes. Yesterday I also drank my 64 and although
I didn't exercise I did work the snowblower for more than two hours. We, here in Merritt, MI, got a couple of heavy snowfalls which totaled eight inches or more. Now, not sure if the snowblowing counts for exercising, but I'm sore enough today that I think it should. Hope all is well with everyone. Take care.

I've already started drinking my water for the day! I'm attending my weekly yoga class tonight, so that will help me meet my cardio goal for the day.

Great job on the Christmas party challenge. I've got 2 Christmas events coming up (lunch today and lunch on Monday). It's so important to think ahead and have a game plan for making wise choices.

emoticon Here's a tip from the December SP calendar for the 3rd:

Splurge wisely. The holidays only come once a year, but the parties, events, and gifts of food never seem
to end! Decide which ones are really worth splurging for, and leave the other foods on the table.

I'm going to the gym this morning, and I am going to drink 8 glasses of water by bedtime tonight. Okay, I've put it out there, so now I actually have to do it. I never regret going to the gym (unlike that lasagna last night), so I don't get why it's so hard to get there sometimes.

How is everyone doing?

I got my water in and walked 3.5 miles to work today! We no longer have a second car because we haven't replaced the one that was totaled a while ago. I just returned my son's car to him because he's home from Iraq (Yippee!!) and we're now in the market for a new used, cheap car. Since hubby goes to work at 4:30 AM, I decided to walk to work instead of driving him.

Well, I didn't do as well as I should have. I didn't work out, and I barely drank all of my water. I will do much better today!

I am confident that the path I journey on today leads me in the best direction for my soul's progress. I do not worry about tomorrow. I choose to focus on today's journey.

I'd like to join the group too. This is a tough time of year. Lot's of chanllenges and temptations. Just trying to keep the exercise and activity level up is hard enough! I won't meet my original goal for this year but I'm not giving up. Things are still geting better, just slower than expected. Thanks for the encouragement.

I'm in!

The past four months have been brutal with me going to school full time and working part-time. At one point I got to my lowest weight in years, but the last month has been so stressful that I've gained it all back. Getting my drivers license hasn't helped either since I went from rarely riding in a car to driving at least twice a week. Yikes!

I'm definitely going to give this a shot and try to stay on top of my exercise and food intake. Thanks so much for sending out the group message - it was just what I needed to get back onto Spark People!

Hey! Getting that sparkmail message was pretty exciting in itself. To see that people are still active after so many months is pretty cool.

Ok Pauline, sign me up! I definitely want to stay on track with my exercise because I have a tendency to get off track around this time of the year. I will definitely keep posting!

OK, everyone! It's so good to hear from you!! Here is the official team challenge.

Do It In December!
1. Drink 8 cups water daily
2. Devote 3 days a week to exercise
3. Do weigh in once a week

You can post how you're doing on this thread. You can post as often as you like - every day, every other day, but everyone should post at least once a week.

I personally try to post as much as possible. My weigh in days are Wed. so I will definitely post on that day. You can use your own weigh in day or just make Wed. your weigh in days if you like.

Let's do it!!!! emoticon

I just want to get back into the exercise habit this month! I was doing soooo well, then I didn't just fall off the wagon, I catapulted off of it!!! :-p So 3x a week of exercising for me! More than that would be great, but 3x as a minimum!

I'm game! I'm maintaining but I have been on the baking binge from..........Baking is one of my favorite holiday past times. These tasks sound reasonable. I'v never done a challenge either, what's next?

Hi:

What you're proposing sounds doable, but I've never
been in one of your challenges. So, how are we
accountable, or how is it done?

Hi, everyone! Please let me know what you think realistic goals for this month are. I was thinking water (8 cups), cardio (30 min x 3 days), and ST (2 days). What are your ideas?
