I also tried voting, but it says can't vote repeatedly and I have not yet voted.

I vote for Lisey's Story, as I already have it and have not read it yet.

Uh ... Lizzyannie ... in the first sentence of the message I started for this topic I wrote ... please do not reply here". So that's why no one has posted here until now ...

Was hoping to leave this topic short so new members could find the info on basic quidelines quickly and I wouldn't have to re-post them at some point.

Just trying to avoid some maintenance and repetitive questions.

**Plz do not reply here, so this info is not "lost"**

For our discussions, we do not pick a book one month and read it the next.

The team discussion leaders, Carolwilson and myself, will occasionally post a topic asking for book suggestions, here in this forum. Team members usually have up to two weeks to vote on their book choice.

After the start date is set, the discussion leader will create a topic for the book in the forum above this one.

We typically read and discuss the book in sections. There is no specific end date for our discussions.

When participating in a group discussion, we ask that spoilers be avoided if you've read farther ahead than the discussion leader.

With this format, we hope new members, who are joining all the time, have a chance to jump into the discussion if they are interested.

Our current discussions:

The Woman in White*
The Constant Princess (last 1/8th of the book)**
The Thirteen Problems (last 1/8th of the book)**
American Gods (started May 5)
The Echo Maker (started May 23)
Pillars of the Earth (starts approx. June 15)

*discussion suspended until The Constant Princess and The Thirteen Problems are finished.

We are just getting off the ground with having two discussions here, so it's new for me and co-leader, Carol. For sure we won't be discussing a book a month.

Our discussions here are a bit different than most book clubs I've visited. We read and discuss the book in increments (hopefully without any spoilers from having read ahead of the group).

The discussions are paced on how well everyone is keeping up with reading those sections (especially the discussion leader) and how much conversation is posted about the book.

We'll probably begin taking suggestions for the next discussion when we are half-way through the books we are reading now -- probably in 2-3 weeks.

Do we do a different book (or couple of books) each month? When do we start the selection process for January? What's the protocol?

Thanks :)

Since Glass Castle was almost as close to the vote total for the winning book, The Lovely Bones, let's have two discussion groups this time around.

Carol will start her discussion on The Lovely Bones around December 18th.

The Glass Castle discussion will begin around December 28th. I'll lead the GC discussion and use the same format as Carol.

Well we have our votes:

Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold 28% 27

Glass Castle by Jeannette Wells 22% 21

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini 21% 20

Lisey's Story by Stephen King 15% 15

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini 14% 14

total votes: 97

Looks like Lovely Bones is our winner.

So how would everyone like to do this? We can keep these other books in the runnings or maybe just the top 2 for voting on the next book or if someone else would like to try their hands at running a group reading they can take the second pick? Just let me know guys. I will probably wait until the 18th to start discussion of the first few chapters that should give everyone enough time to get the book and at least get it started.

I tried to vote for The Glass Castle, but kept getting a database/SQL error.

Oops! Guess I am just too impatient. When I voted and left the web page, it finally came back. Told me Glass Castle was currently at the top. But only 25 people have voted.

The Glass Castle is an amazing book. I have always wanted to read Book Thief.

What are the parameters of SP Worm Reads? Is a book chosen monthly? Is there a designated discussion day on the forum?

The Glass Castle is a pretty good book. If this is chosen, I would like to suggest The Book Thief by Markus Zusak as the next book.

Congrats to our two new team leaders! Having a thread for Group Reads is a great idea and maybe there will be a lot more participation!

Good job on the changes, and welcome as team leaders!

Chefsophie I added my suggestion for The Glass Castle in the voting section below.

Just a reminder for everyone that only a designated book discussion leader will be creating topics in this forum.

We'd really appreciate it if your suggestions for our next book discussion are posted in the Voting forum so we've got all of our suggestions in one area.

I read Glass Castle and loved it. It's by Jeannette Wells. Not sure about the spelling.

Hi Everyone, your new Team Leaders decided Spark Bookworms needed a place to discuss our group readings. Hopefully this will help alliviate any lost threads due to the highly active general discussion Topic.

Please ONLY post items in this thread having to do with group reading material. I will try to do my best to sticky the current topics of discussions so that none get lost.

Thanks everyone and I hope you all enjoy the new change.
