Wow. Been a busy couple of days. I weighted in on NYE but didn't get close to my computer for a few days after. Anyway, my final weight was 149.
I didn't reach my goal either (145) but I am feeling so much better than at the start. I lost a total of 7.5 pounds. I even went out over the weekend and bought a couple of size 6 pants! I don't even own any other size 6 clothing because its been that long since I fit that size! I'll continue to work my way down to my goal.
Thanks to everyone who participated and helped keep me motivated, especially Puma. Every time I struggled, I knew I'd just have to log in and read your most recent message and find the support I needed. Congrats on your loss! Keep it up!
Happy New Year!

well! first day of 2010!!!!!! we have concluded our new years eve challenge. hope everyone else feels a bit happier with their progress than when we started 12 weeks ago! (wow, how did 12 weeks go so quickly?!?!)
so like i said, i didn't weigh in last week cuz of not having a scale to use, so i'll just skip week 11's weigh in and post week 12. all in all, i'm quite pleased actually!!!! i managed to lose 2 pounds from my week 10 weigh in!!!!! i didn't get to run but once per week during these last 2 weeks, though, so i don't know if some of my tone turned to flab, but i'll get running again this week. so here's the scoop:
So ok, overall this challenge, i guess i only lost 4 lbs from "SW" but 5 from my high of the challenge. and i feel better about my health since i had been running each week. and i hadn't been eating as many sweets, so that makes the body feel better, too. all in all, i'd say it was a successful challenge. i didn't reach my original goal, or even my recalibrated 130 goal, but i'm still less than when i started, and sometimes that's all the victory i need!!!!
How'd everyone else do??? Come on ladies, fess up, how do you feel about the challenge?

I didn't have a reliable scale on my weigh-in day either. The scale at my parents' usually weighs me at about 1 to 1 1/2 pounds lighter than I am. On Thursday it weighted me in at 148.4. But I think I'll go with the weight my scale at home gave me on Monday. Even though it's not a loss, maintaining is great progress for me. During the holidays last year I put on about 10 pounds... and this year I've actually been able to lose a little. Just a few more days to go!
today is my typical weigh in day, but i'm at my in laws and they don't have a scale, so alas it must wait until saturday, maybe. (assuming i want to weigh in the day after christmas, haha)

katy!!!!! WWWOOOOOOWWWWW that's so awesome, i'm so incredibly happy for you!!!! i remember the time i got on the scale and it was out of the 150s, i felt like i was on top of the world!!!! that's so great, i'm so happy for you!!! keep it up (well, down!)
and you're right, i read too that you can still exercise if you have a cold, as long as it's only "above the neck". it's funny cuz i just wrote about this in the other topic, before i read what you wrote in here. unfortunately, i think my cold has turned into mild bronchitis (the wheezy kind of cough) which they say it's best to NOT exercise. so i think i missed my window. even though i felt like junk, i should have tried to work out 2 days ago. but yesterday and today i've had the wheezy cough. i never thought i'd be a person to be sad when i couldn't work out!!! this couch 2 5k plan really got me motivated and loving running! i hope i don't lose too much momentum, though. this may set me back and i'll have to repeat some of the prior weeks of intervals. i had gotten to 25 minutes of straight running, but i don't know that i can do that after taking 5 days off. blast. we'll see.
lil, congrats, you probably DID lose this week, then, because i never trust an afternoon reading. it's always higher. shoot, i wake up in the morning, go to the bathroom, get down to my underwear, exhale, then step on the scale. HA!!! glad you're still with us.
yes, where have our other friends gone? again? must be busy little bees, i suppose. well, WHEREVER YOU ARE, FRIENDS, WE'RE THINKING ABOUT YOU AND SENDING OUT THOUGHTS OF ENCOURAGEMENT!!!!

Hi everyone!
Lime ~ Don't worry about it. We've all pretty much reset our goals and the rest of us don't have surgery, incisions, or being bed-bound to blame. So welcome back!
Puma ~ I'm so sorry your sick! You know they say that if you have a cold (but clearly not a bad one and you need to make sure its just a cold and nothing worse) that exercise actually helps. I usually try to get to the gym when I've got a slight cold, seems to help work it out of me. Clearly I don't go 100% but try to get active and sweat a little. Anyway, I hope you feel better soon!
Everyone else ~ Where did you go? Please come back! Don't give up on your goals! We miss you!
As for me, this was actually a great week! Fewer parties and more time for the gym. I've been eating right and working out and oh my God, I'm out of the 150s!!!!! Sure hope I stay out through the holidays. Good luck everyone!
darn, i'm up!!!! i mean i was kind of expecting it, but still hoping for a miracle, haha!! that's what i get for being so "oh well" about all the parties i went to this past weekend. plus now i'm sick, so i don't know that i'll be able to get to my running today or saturday like i wanted to. i'm dosing up on medicine to get better, tho, cuz i hafta fly on sat. def don't wanna fly with a cold!! i wouldn't be surprised if a lot of this weight was water weight, tho, because mon & tues i ate well, and then yesterday, when i couldn't really move or do anything, i just sat round and ate stuff with lots of sodium. either way, i'm up to 135. blast!
just means i gotta kick it up a notch and actually pay attention to what i eat this week. let's do it ladies! how was everyone else's weigh in??

Sorry everyone. I've been absent for a while. Went through a lot of difficulties and couldn't bring myself to get on the scale. I had surgery and was supposed to be able to be up and about 2 days after. However, I waited 5 days to even really leave the house (depression set in) and split my incision open in the process. So I had to be in bed for another week. It really has taken a lot for me to come back on here and start up again. But I'm glad I'm back. I think I'm going to have to adapt my goals a bit because I gained back a few pounds.
that's kind of how i'm feeling, too. it's like "ok, well i may or may not have that extra piece of cake or cookie at the party, but i ran today, so it's just like not eating that cookie" so i think i'll be ok with myself to just maintain these next couple weeks. i also don't want to use that as an excuse to eat whatever whenever, though, so when i'm not at a party, i'm going to try to work the calories so i'm saving enough for a party that i know i won't splurge, ya know? gosh, holidays :c)

Well, the holidays are starting to get to me. This past week has been full of running around non-stop, eating on the go and not getting any time to work out... and it's showing on the scale. I'm up a pound this week. But if the tree gets up tonight, I get the last of the presents wrapped and the cookies made, then the next few weeks should be less stressful (though there's still a ton of parties and get-togethers and traveling to do.) Even if the food gets out of hand, I should at least have time to work out.
So three weeks left till the Final Weigh In... I think I'll just have a goal of 132, and if I surpass that, awesome. If not, I know at least my dress pants will be fitting again, so that's an accomplishment. woowoo!!!

wow, girl, that's totally awesome!!!! i'm so impressed, and downright happy for you! don't you just love flukes ;c) plus, it's really good that you didn't let that fluke totally affect determination. i'm SO susceptible to doing that, and that's how the scale can really be the enemy. but by forging ahead, you didn't give up and had a tremendous loss this week! awesome!!!

Hey Puma. I'm going to have to give you both a 'congrats' and an 'ew'. But loss is loss, so good for you.
As for me, I kind of knew that last week's 150.5 might have been a fluke, I usually can't lose more than a pound in a week. So after Thanksgiving I was up to about 152 and now I'm back down to 151. Up from last week but still down from the week before and averaging a pound a week for the last 4 weeks. Not bad.
We're in the final stretch! Just 4 more weeks! Screw our goals (I'm certainly not going to be reaching mine by NYE), lets just see how much we can improve ourselves in that time.
Hahaha, ok, so this may sound gross or TMI, but i guess i hadn't gone #2 in about 2 or 3 days, so i just did this morning. and just for craps & giggles (no pun intended), i thought i'd weigh myself again. 134!!!! so i guess i actually lost 1.5 lbs this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOHHHHOOOOO!!!!
lil, maintaining thru holiday eating is CERTAINLY a victory! most people GAIN 10 pounds. and look, you did even lose a pound from last week. so hooray!!
i'm down .5 lb from last week! exciting! not as much as i would have liked, but hey, it was thanksgiving! ;c)

I'm missing all our friends too. Hopefully they'll be back next week after this holiday. Anyway, I weighed in this morning at 150.5! I sure hope I can at least maintain it through this weekend. Good luck everyone and Happy Thanksgiving!
i'm missing all our other friends, katy! what's going on here? :c)
yeah, i think i found a scale i like. it doesn't have the body fat, cuz i read a review on consumerreport that said they don't analyze body fat scales because they used to in 2003, but found that all of them were only semi accurate and for only 80 percent of their testers. so i figure if i want body fat, i'll just find a trainer or something to get it done. but i found a weight watchers scale, WW34D Glass Precision Electronic Scale. it's $34.88 on amazon, and out of 54 reviews it got 4 out of 5 stars. sounds good to me! it weighs by the .1 increment.
i think that this may help motivation, because i know with the .5 scale it just rounds to the closest .5, so you know, you may have actually lost even like .2 lb in a week, but it won't show you that, it'll show you the same weight as last week. so i think i'm intrigued!

Yes. Fancy scales like that can be pretty pricey. That's why I'm hoping Santa will bring me one, so I don't have to buy it for myself. I've got the standard by .5lb scale as well. But my mom and my brother both rave about their fancy scales so I'm hoping one of them will like it so much that they'll buy one for me too.

Katy that's so awesome!! congratulations! yeah that is strange how you're lower on tues. bizarre! i just have a regular boring scale that only gives numbers by .5. i got it years ago, and never really wanted to get too obsessed with the tenths of a pound, but part of me has always been so curious. and a body fat one would be pretty cool. i should probably look into one. are they expensive?

So I finally found last week's illusive 153. This week's illusive number is 152. I'm not sure what it is about Thursdays. I always seem to weigh about a pound less on Tuesdays than I do on Thursdays and I'm usually back down to the lower number by Saturday. I'm hoping Santa brings me a fancy scale for Christmas this year that'll measure hydration and body fat percentage in addition to weight. That way, at least I'll be able to tell that my weight is always up on Thursdays because I start retaining water midweek. Congrats to all for you accomplishments and hard work. And good luck this next week.

Hooray! Congrats, Lil!!! you've been so patient, I know it can be frustrating, but that's awesome! it paid off. Shoot, I've even only lost 1.5 lbs, cuz i stay steady so often. This morning, for example, i was still 136. Just like last week. BLah!! But I'm gonna be patient and not got mad at myself, because when i get mad is when i mess up. I have to realize that i'm exercising now and possibly switching out some fat to build up my muscle. my legs are very muscley, always have been, so they're prolly just waking up. haha. plus, i think i lost 1/4 inch on my "low waist" which is my nice way of saying my spare tire.
it's crazy, when i was this weight before, like many many long time ago, my hips were 1 inch smaller, and my low waist was 1.5 inches smaller. i think i've done damage to my body by how i used to lose weight, which was strictly by dieting. i was doing no cardio to lose the weight, so i may have lost some good muscle mass, and then when i gained weight again, it was pure fat. man! alas. can't fix everything in 6 weeks. just gotta keep on trucking, tho!!

welcome, teri!!
hey linarex, i understand your frustration. i hate seeing the numbers go down and the GOSH back up again. it's like NOOO i already got rid of those numbers, don't show them to me again!!! arg. maybe your body didn't want to lose so quickly in the beginning, so it's just kind of re-balancing itself out? 4 lbs in 5 weeks is still really good, darlin. shoot, i've only "officially" lost 1.5. i would GLADLY take 4. just keep on working at it, and the numbers will show. are you tracking something else, just to make sure? like measurements, or even just how your clothes feel?

Hi all,
I posted this in the goals forum too, but since is the one that's more used, I thought I should keep myself accountable and share here, as well.
Yep I'm major late, too, but I still have 7 weeks. I'm just going to shoot for 1 pound a week, since I've been injured since the end of June and really have to take it easy.
1st goal: To get back into workouts carefully and not reinjure myself 2nd goal: To not see workout time as a chore, but instead as 'me' time to enjoy 3rd goal: To remember to do everything healthfully, nothing extreme. I have a tendency to go over-board when I have a goal.
I've been unable to keep up the exercise level I had previously for several months. I injured my hip running downhill and it's become a self-promulgating problem: The pain from the bone being mis-alinged tightened up the muscles, and when I see my chiropractor to get the bones back in place, the muscles are so tight the adjustment doesn't stick. I got tired of waiting for my hip to 'feel better'and got back in the gym this week, since my chiro also said that sitting like I do all day at work causes that muscle to tighten, and I've noticed that it doesn't hurt me at all when I'm working it, as long as I don't push too hard. So I am going to try a little self-therapy. Also, this is my last week of stuck-at-desk work for quite awhile: I'm going on orders for the AF next week for 10 months. Which will be nice, because I'll also be able to take an hour a day from my workday to exercise, so I will be in the gym 5 days a week again. So, I'll be getting more exercise and moving around more in general, that should help a lot.
So, I decided now was a good time to join a challenge and give myself some accountability. Here I am!
Teri
My greatest fear is that I'll look back on my life and wonder what I did with it.

Lime and Puma ~ Congrats on the weight loss! One pound in a week is great! My results are:
I'm a little bummed because I saw 153 a few times over the last week but it's still a loss and I'll take it. I've just got to work a little harder to get to 153 and this is just more motivation to do it.
Good luck this week ladies!

woohoo!!!! one pound GONE!!!!!! this morning i weighed in at 136. and i'm losing inches from the walk/jogging!!! i'm noticing that mostly in my waist and thighs, not so much my "low waist" (aka, SPARE TIRE) and hips. but hips take the longest to lose, so i'll be patient.
speaking of, does anyone else want to start posting inches, as well? or just the scale number?
but i also think i may revise my goals. clearly, since it's coming off much slower than i anticipated. so i will say that by NYE i want to at the most be 132.5. That way I know that at least some of my fancy pants will fit at that weight to wear for a party. if i surpass that, awesome. if i meet it, awesome. if i fall short? well... i'll evaluate that emotion later ;c)

Hey lime!!! on the positive side, awesome weight loss thus far! darn girl! i know it stinks to get the flu (clearly!) but heh heh, sometimes it does help with the losing.
but i'm so sorry to hear about your break up. i'm sure you have your reasons, and those are important! you should never settle for someone less than you deserve. Hugs!!

Keep up the motivation and good work everyone! Weigh in comes again. 09/31 Start:140 10/07-141 10/14-141 10/21-138.5 10/28-135.5 11/04-132.5 11/11-131.5
I don't know really what to think about the 1lb loss. Still a little sick from the flu so I haven't been eating as much but also haven't exercised. Broke up with my boyfriend (of 5 years) on Sunday and it's my TOM. So many variables. I guess I can be happy about the 1lb but I don't really feel like I deserve it. Eh.

lime, sorry to hear about the flu!! yuck!
my weigh in this morning was only decent. i was really hoping for a bigger drop than just .5, but (sorry if TMI) i haven't really gone number 2 in a few days, so maybe that's part of the culprit ;c) anyway. i digress.

i guess what i can be happy about is that i know i ate really well this past week, and even exercised. so maybe now i won't have days where i am up at 140 anymore, because i've been losing real weight, not just quick water weight, ya know?

Third week in a row with a loss - although I weighed this morning and it was back up to 165.5. I kind of took 2 days off tracking, but was back in today so I feel better. Also, all that loss was through my TOM so I'm so happy about it. This point right now is where I've gotten stuck before and just gained right back up to 170, so I'm shooting to get out of the 160s now for good.
Good job everyone else!!

me? wasn't terribly pleased with the number this morning, but i also just started my period today, so i know that has something to do with it. i'm actually going to reweigh again tomorrow and use that number as my week 3, just wanted to throw that out there.

Even though it's not much of a loss this week, I am SO happy. I injured my calves last week and haven't been able to work out very much. Plus with the water retention due to the swelling I'd have been happy just to maintain. I'm hoping to be healed enough to get back to really working out this weekend and see some big results for next week.

I worked really hard this week: nutrition was always within range, did at least 30 minutes of cardio 6 days this week (weekly run total = 10 miles!), and I got AT LEAST 8 glasses of water a day. I'm feeling good, so I'm not too worried about the scale. My thought is that it's probably because it's my TOM. We'll see how next week goes!

a bit bummed that this morning it said 138. my start 2 weeks was 137. why oh why doesn't it go down?? oh that's right, because i haven't been moving like i said i would. whooooopppsss!!!!! i can at least be happy that i'm not gaining anymore. i'm so mad at myself for last jan-april, when i just stress ate my way from 125 to 135, and then slowly gained the last 2-3 lbs since april. my body is great at maintaining a weight, but it can gain when i let it (ie, BINGEING all the time cuz i'm so stressed out), and then of course takes forever to lose. gosh. oh well, starting week 3!!!

Well, I lost a little over a pound and I'm very happy about it!
I hear ya with the Halloween candy! I have been really good too, but I also allow myself one every four days or so - especially if it's just one mini size candy. I think if we can reach our New Year's mini goals - WOOHOO to us!!! Holidays are tough!

So I weighed in today and I'm up a half pound to 156. But it's my TOM, so that's to be expected. I was down one pound from my start weight at my last weigh-in. I've done pretty well these past two weeks with two of my goals (tracking everything on spark and burning more than 2000 calories per week). Maintaining my third goal however has not been so easy. I told myself I would only eat the food that I brought to work, not all the snacky stuff that's left around the office. The past two weeks have been ridiculous. We had a staff breakfast and the food lasted (and sat staring at me in the kitchen) for another two days and there's been Halloween candy everywhere! I thought I had at least until Halloween was over before people would inundate the office with their leftovers. There is a strategically placed bowl of candy that I have pass each and every time I walk to my desk. On most trips, I'm able to ignore it, but I've caved a few times since it showed up. I'm just not that good at fighting temptation when its staring me in the face. Next week, I vow to try even harder.

That's great!!! My body is really slow at losing weight too...I think that's why I never seem to reach my goal - I work my butt off for 3 months (eating right & exercising 5 days a week) only to shed 10lbs. (while I start to see good muscle definition, I don't lose it fast enough and lose patience & quit)...
Anyway - my story is probably the same as everyone else's, so I have no right to whine...
I will be losing slowly and as a life change, not to get the number on the scale where my ticker ends...
Hope all you ladies are having a wonderful Week 2!!!

I'm new to this group, but not new to sparks. This is my third time around (not because sparks didn't work but because my life is hectic and it was hard to log onto sparks because I was so busy). I'm back this time with more dedication and a less hectic life. I have 20lbs that I would like to lose, eventually, but more importantly I want to feel better! My weigh in day is Wednesday, kind of a tradition for me. 09/31 Start:140 10/07-141 10/14-141
TODAY-138.5
I was getting discouraged because I gained a pound and didn't lose any lbs when I had been working my butt off for two weeks. When I weighed myself this morning, I did a double take. I really was expected that I was going to be disappointed again. 2.5lbs! I also did 100 minutes(in one shot) on my exercise bike this week which I had been trying to work up to for a few weeks. Very exciting.

Weigh in was designed to be Thursday's as that was the day for 12 weeks out from New Years. If adjusting your weigh in date is not possible, weigh in on the day of the week you prefer and we will all just post our results. As long as we are motivated, consistent and achieving desirable results, who cares when we post them!
Let's kick it into high gear and get ourselves sexy for the New Year!!!

I've been seriously slacking on my running (I went home for my Fall Break, bad idea!), but have been able to maintain my water intake and keep my nutrition within range. SO, after week 1, I'm down 1.6 pounds. I'll take it!

i think it may be tricky now though because not everyone started on the 8th, so everyone's week 1 weigh in won't be the same day, and so on. so i guess for whoever didn't, they can either keep on their own pace and just post in here on their own weigh in days, or have a "shorter week" for just one week and post on the 22nd now will be the next "official" day i guess, and then from then on we'll all be on the same page. i dunno.

Was wondering if I should check in here?
I had to modify some goals because my starting weight was a bit different since I hadn't updated it in a couple weeks (it was higher...yuck). So I'm down 3lbs this week, but I'm still a bit away from my 4 week goal. I need to get out of the 160s!

Is today weigh in day? Is this the day we all check in and is this the thread to do it on?

Yesterday's weight in went surprisingly well - 129.6, which is like, 2lbs from last week...and only .6 away from my week 4 goal. I'm not expecting big things this week (going away for the weekend, making it a lot harder to control my food) so it'll probably average out.
I plan on keeping up with what I've been doing, because something must be working. And hopefully this coming week's weigh-in will have something to show as well.

well grr, i'm a bit disappointed about week number 1. i was 137.5 last thursday, and this morning, 138. i snuck on the scale earlier in the week and saw 137, so i was certain today's would be at least 136.5. makes me feel frustrated, since i feel like i did everything right. aah well, keep on trucking.

well here's a mini success!! tonight after dinner (which was eating out, and i brought half of it home!!), some friends were like "let's go grab some ice cream!" and ordinarily i would go ahead and have some, even tho ice cream isn't my favorite (if i'm going dessert, i'm going CAKE!!!!). but tonight i said "no thanks, i'm good" which is huge for me! woowoo!!

Let's use this thread to post our weekly weigh in's and other successes - aka completing 3 miles whereas you were only able to do 2 before, etc.
Let's keep our momentum going this holiday season...it will get tough, but we can do it!!!
