aah the christmas parties. haha. hope they go well!!

so i felt good enough to at least attempt to work out. i told myself i would just get on the treadmill and walk for 30 min, and see what happened. well i did the 5 minutes, and i was like "hmm, why don't i just try to run?" so GUESS WHAT?!?! i still was able to run the full 25 minutes without stopping!!!!! i couldn't even believe it! how cool??? it felt really good to do it, and my muscles felt fine, the only part that hurt was i started to get a side stitch. i had to hold onto it for a bit and put pressure while running, but i finished out the run!!! i was SO surprised. pleasantly, of course ;c)

I miss exercising too and I never thought that would happen either... work schedule has been crazy this week... have to leave before gym is open... and this is the weekend of Christmas parties... 2 down, 2 more to go...

Hope you feel better soon Puma!

i've been sick the past 4 days and haven't been able to run :c( who woulda ever thought i'd be SAD to not be able to exercise. haha, i certainly never thought this could happen! but it has, and i'm feeling antsy, but i think it's a cold-turned-bit of bronchitis, and you're not supposed to exercise if the infection is below the neck (ie, not just a head cold). i may at least try to walk, and if i can't breathe, i'll stop. how's everyone else doing?

the next few weeks are going to get a little hairy... lots of Christmas and birthday parties... so my goal for now is to just maintain and keep exercising and keep moderation in mind... 4 different family Christmas parties between my husband's family and mine and 4 birthdays... half of my family was born in December...

balance certainly is hard. i think we just have to find what's gonna work best for us. if we try to find a schedule that is great for someone else but leaves us dragging, then that's not good. for example, some people say they love getting their workout over with in the morning. well i'm TOTALLY not a morning person, and would rather sleep till 8 than 7:15, you know? so i have to find another time during the day, which sometimes doesn't happen. it really is true what i've heard, that we have to make it a priority. because so often it's easy to say "oh i'll just do it later today" well what does that mean, "later" ??? i've been literally having to tell myself "ok, it's 1:15 now, i will be out there exercising at 3" and i find that to be easier.

and on busy days, they say it's just as beneficial heart wise to fit in 3 spurts of 10 min work outs. so say you have about 20 min in the morn, 20 in between lunch break, and then random 20 in the evening. use 10 of each of those to do something with movement. i know it's not a huge workout, but it still helps! every little bit does! come on ladies, we can do this!!!! :c)

I understand the same thing with the balance. I missed my trip to the gym today because of the weather... did manage to get in some snow shoveling...

I hear you, LINAREX, I'm having the same problem! It's coming up on finals week for me, and I just don't have enough hours in the day to get everything done that I need to. Add to that the fact that I haven't been exercising consistently over the past month, it makes my sparse gym visits super tough.

This morning I motivated myself to get to the gym, and just after I started running, I felt like I couldn't go on any more. I pushed myself to get one mile done, and then I did enough intervals to amount to 30 minutes of running. Oof, it was rough though. It's mentally tough to go from being able to run 3-4 miles straight to having to work so hard just to get 1 mile down. I also think I was a little bit dehydrated. Hopefully I get comfortable with my workouts soon!

I have a final presentation in one of my classes tomorrow, so hopefully I can prepare myself and finish early enough tonight that I can get a solid run (at least 1.5 miles) in tomorrow morning.

Wish me luck!

-Brenna

I'm trying to get back into consistent activity, and I made it to the gym a couple times again this past week so that's good. It's just hard when you have a lot going on. It's tough to determine what your priorities are, and I currently feel like I'll never have that balance (although I KNOW that's not true, I still feel that way).

I am so impressed! You ladies are doing so well!!!

We have four weeks left until our New Year's weigh in...plenty of time to lose the rest of the weight we have goaled for ourselves!

Let's go ladies!

BRENNA'S BACK!!! HOORAY!!!!

i'm the same way, honestly, once something minorly bad happens i give up on everything. truthfully this is the longest stint in a LONG LONG LONG LONG time that i haven't given up, despite only small tiny signs of progress. so it's up to all of us to hold each of us accountable!!!

the running thing sounds way cool. you were doing so well with your running before, i'm sure you can kick it back up! woohoo!!

Oof... It's been a while. Sorry for my absence! It as not been pretty on my end. I've been really stressed out with school (senior year, honors thesis, work, bills... UGH), and I let all of my hard work go. I'm sure I'm back up to 208 or 209, at least. Haven't weighed myself in a while. So frustrating! I always do this - I'm on a roll, and then one little hiccough (being life), and I give up.

In any case, thanks to Puma for getting me back! One of my very fit friends has been having trouble getting to the gym without competition, so the two of us and another friend and doing a three mile challenge - whoever can improve their 3 mile the most from now until the start of second semester wins. Let's be honest - her 120 lbs is toast. My 3 miles has a lot of room for improvement, so I'm starting there.

PS - Please hold me accountable! Check in on me if/when you get the chance. I need it!

hey! glad to have you back and around :c) there's no shame in those same 5 lbs, i'm pretty sure everyone has done that. shoot, it's like the story of my life! so it's good, like you said, to realize that there's still 4 weeks left for all of us to kick it up a notch and really stay motivated. i have no doubts that even if we don't reach our initial "nye goals" we will still be at a healthier level than we were before. and sometimes that's the biggest victory we need.

you're right, too, about eating out. even when you think you're making proper choices, they still manage to sneak in so many calories. cooking at home certainly helps manage the waistline, but sometimes that gets hard because of being so busy. i guess using the old standbys of frozen lean cuisines and smart ones are good options, though. i've noticed just yesterday that lean cuisines, altho i'm not as excited about their range of choices as compared to smart ones, they have about 300-400 less mg of sodium! man oh man! that's like 5 servings of water difference ;c) anyway, something to consider for sure.

Alright, I'm back. And I'm sick of gaining and losing the same 5 lbs. How frustrating. It's even more frustrating because it's just me who's doing it, so I don't have anyone else to blame. I'm not anywhere I want to be right now, and just frustrated.

Sorry for the down post - but I'm back to track regularly since I dropped of. I am NOT out of this challenge completely! There's still 4 weeks left. I need to just remember that I HAVE TO TRACK otherwise I just lose things completely.

Also, I'm trying to not eat out for dinner the entire month of December. It's not possible for lunch because of work, but since I can control dinner I will! It might mean a bit more work with cooking, but ultimately I eat healthier when I don't eat out and it saves money too.

good to hear about the hubby!! hooooray!!

and you're right, we have every meal to make the right choices. for me personally, my breakfast was a good choice, my lunch would have been a good choice but quickly became a not-so-good choice (haha, whoops!), and dinner was actually a pretty reasonable choice. so hopefully it all balanced out. didn't have time to calculate it, but i mean, just off the top of my head i would say... 1800-2000 cals. and i didn't get my workout in today cuz of the blustery weather, but i'm not bummed about that. because technically my "week 5" shouldn't start till tomorrow, anyway. i had just told myself that if i had the time, perhaps i would head out and get it started today. so, aah well, no harm no foul.

so sorry to hear about the hubby. yeah, i think it will be a victory to just maintain, as well. haha. but honestly, around the holidays, that truly is a victory!! we shouldn't look at that as a failure. because the average is 10 lbs that people GAIN. so to stay the same?? AMAZING. so heck, let's just do it, man!!!! :c)

i agree on the working out... my goal for this week is to just maintain... did work out this week 3 times thus far, however, I know I am not going to be able to work out today or tomorrow-- hubby had knee/ankle scope and injection for a tendon problem and I don't feel comfortable leaving him at home alone to go to the gym--plus, he seems to need something every 5 minutes, so every time I go to start something, i get interrupted and tomorrow will be nothing but cooking and shuffling off to my family, plus more taking care of hubby

Congrats on the run Puma! I'm a little worried about Thanksgiving myself. I've got Thanksgiving dinner with my boyfriend's family on Thursday, then Thanksgiving dinner again with my family on Friday. I was hoping to just have one T-day dinner then avoid all the leftovers, but that's just not going to be possible. Working out is going to have to be what saves us.

even on vacation, up here home for the holidays, i went out for my walk/run!! it was fun, too, because my hubby was sweet and came along with me (he's a full time runner, like 5 miles everyday, just for fun). so it was really encouraging of him to want to run with me. he's very supportive of this plan i'm doing. so i'm now through days 1 and 2 of week 4. crazy!!!

getting nervous for a weigh in, though, because definitely have been eating my fair share of food. trying as best i can to at least do it in moderation, but boy oh boy, is my mom a good baker and cook! and fancy shmancy restaurants, doggone. so i'm just doing my best, and at least i'm exercising, so that's good!

it's soooo possible it's mainly water weight. gosh, i can gain so much just because it's my TOM. which, actually, will be next week's weigh in. blah!! but as long as i keep on keepin on, hopefully it won't do too much damage. although how inconvenient, to get your period the week of thanksgiving... combining a ravenous appetite with all the food you could ever possibly desire?? YIIIKKKEESS!! haha. i'll just have to be careful :c)

so, i've discovered I've gained 4 pounds in like the past month (haven't weighted myself in a month), but my clothes fit better and it is just before my monthly visitor, so I think it is all water... we'll see next week... where did the time go?

it's uber tricky. i'm working 25 hrs a week, AND grad school, so my schedule is all over the place. luckily, sometimes my tues or thurs night class is an "off" night, meaning we'll just have work online to do, so those are usually my work out days during the week (or i'll switch to mon/wed if i DO have class) and then try to do either sat or sun. squeezing in more than 3 in one week is a chore for right now. but, thankfuly, with c25k, it only requires 3 workouts per week, to get yourself back into running shape. so we'll see. hopefully next semester will be a bit more balanced. oh, and yeah, i have never in my life been a morning person, so i do NOT see myself EVER waking up BEFORE work to exercise. are you kidding me?! why wake up at 7, when i can wake up at 8 ;c) haha

Hope you get your workout in today sometime! If any of you work, what the heck do you guys do when you get busy? I feel like all my time is eaten up lately, and the rest of the year is just going to be SO busy at work. This week I went over cals twice cause I was on the road for work and working so late that by the time I ate I just didn't care anymore. Next week is going to be equally busy too...I just don't know what to do right now.

tee hee, i'm here!! congrats on the 90 minutes!!!! that's awesome :c) each step is a good step. my week's going pretty well, i probably should have used today to do my final day of week 2 in the couch 2 5k (from now on, i just feel like going by its acronym, c25k), but i did day 2 yesterday and they say to give your muscles a day in between to recoop, since i'm new again to exercising. so i guess it's good i didn't, but it will be trickier to get it in now. perhaps i'll do saturday (tomorrow i work from 9-6, and we usually do something with friends friday evenings. but maybe i'll actually make myself a PRIORITY and do it after work. we'll see :c) )

Woo hoo! Finally got my 90 min in this week. But I went over in cals 2 days so far. Overall I feel like it was a good week though. Now to keep up the 90 min streak. I just want to do it next week too, and meet that goal for at least 2 more weeks. Hope you all are doing okay this week - it's quiet here!

Just as I suspected, I totally overate today. I tried to reign it in at dinner, but had over 1000 cals at lunch. Went to a great buffet place - couldn't control it.

I will not do this tomorrow, because I don't feel great today as a result of overeating. Yuck.

Woo! Looks like everyone's getting back on track, myself included. On sunday I organized an ultimate frisbee game with the undergrads/professors in my department, which was a blast. I didn't realize how little I use my non-running muscles, though. Needless to say, Monday I morning I woke up the sorest I've been in recent memory. It was good though, I played for about an hour, so I replaced my run for the day with playing. I took yesterday off to let my muscles rest a bit, then ran 2.25 miles today at about an 11:19 pace, but it was hard! My muscles are still really sore, but I was glad to get back out there. Now to keep it up!

Hope everyone has a strong Tuesday :)

Nice work!

I stayed on track today again. Although I'm actually struggling to meet my cal goal for the day. Ever get days where you just cannot eat anymore? When I eat properly, AND drink my water, I find that I'm just not as hungry as I would be eating junk. I need to hold on to that feeling. Tues-Thurs this week is going to be a struggle for me because I'm traveling for work. I'm just going to try and head to the gym one or two of those nights at the hotel.

i was feeling so sleepy and definitely did NOT want to exercise when i got home from class. but i made my own podcast using garageband that tells you when to run and when to walk, that goes along with the couch 2 5k, then i ate half an apple, and went to the apt complex gym and did Week 2 Day 1!!!!! WOOHOO!!! then i came home, finished the apple and ate dinner. (then watched desperate housewives and ugly betty... haha!) it was a bit more difficult, tho, this week is 90 seconds of jogging then 2 minutes walking. sometimes those 90 seconds flew by, other times... HOLY MOLY!!! haha. but I'm so proud of myself for doing it even tho i didn't want to. hooray!!

I did drop off too. I just didn't want to do anything this week. I dropped everything - didn't clean, do laundry, nothing. It wasn't very good overall. Starting over today though - stayed in my cal range AND drank all water AND worked out. That's a good way to start the week!

great to have you back. hooray for renewed motivation. and awesome job on the run!!

we can all keep kicking it up a notch, myself included. i did well with exercise, but only decent with food. i didn't binge or anything, but i just didn't do as well as i would have liked.

this weekend i was away visiting my grandparents, and i did my darndest to try to eat well. we had an early thanksgiving, tho, so there certainly was a lot of food. but i have to admit, i think i did pretty well!! i made sure to not have seconds, and to only have small portions of each item. i didn't get to exercise this weekend, tho, spending time with everyone. tomorrow i'm gonna do week 2 day 1 of couch 2 5k, tho, so that's exciting! gotta keep it going!!

Oof! I did drop off the face of the earth. Bummer, too! I did a very poor job managing my time this week and only ran on Monday, but it was the fastest I've ever done 3 miles (32:30)!

I did an okay job eating this week, so I managed to maintain weight, but I seriously have to kick it up a few notches this week!

Hope everyone else is doing well.

words of WISDOM?? no. words of experience? yes. coming from the girl who CONSTANTLY lacks motivation, all i can say is, some days you literally have to MAKE yourself do it. This is only my 2nd week of being consistent with exercise, so like i said, wisdom? no. haha, and if this helps any... i just watched this past week's desperate housewives episode, and gaby had a little piece of advice for lynette... she said "you know what they say! the longer you wait, the bigger the butt!" i started laughing. it's such a gaby thing to say, and she's so tiny and focused on health and beauty, so i just thought it was comical. and yet, SO WISE!!! if you truly think about it, seriously! the longer we wait to get started being healthy, the bigger and more UNhealthy we will get. that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the yummy things in life (ie, this past weekend, my hubby really wanted dunkin donuts, so i got a box, but i only ate 2 of them and then just rationed the rest of my day's cals. so YUMMY! and SO worth it!). anyway. words from both me and gaby solis ;c)

Brenna - nice work!

Puma - Couch to 5K is a good program. If you follow it you really do improve.

I'm okay this week...just struggling to drink my water and stay in my range. The two days I went over this weekend are really messing with me. Today I JUST made it in my cal range at the highest of the high end...so no snacks for me tonight!

hooooooray!!! i've now down day 2 of the official "couch to 5k" plan. you can find it on coolrunning.com. basically, i stink at running but want to get into it, since i know how good it is for you. so this plan is for people who are just basically couch potatoes (raises hand), and it gradually increases your ability thru interval training. so for example, this first week (each week has 3 25-minute workouts, including the 5 minute warm up) consists of the 5 minute walking warm up, then alternating 60 seconds of jogging with 90 seconds of walking. so i've done week 1 day 2 today. hooray!

we're having maintenance issues, as well. we have a squirrel basically trying to burrow its way through our ceiling into our apt, and the lady was like "well i can't get anyone over there until monday" (this was on sat she said that). great. we may have a giant hole in our ceiling, and a rabid squirrel running rampant by then, but sure! haha. good grief!!!

brenna - you are gonna be mvp this go around!! congrats on your successes so far, i know you're gonna hit so many more!!! i know that feeling of "wow i haven't been this light in who knows when!" gosh i loved it. it makes all the hard work totally worth it. so enjoy that feeling, roll around in it, and soak it in!!! it's awesome!!! AND congrats on the awesome run!!!!! WOOWOO!!!!

Oh man, what a bummer! That actually happened to me last year, except my hot water was out for a month - I got to the gym by telling myself I'd get a hot shower afterward. Did wonders for my motivation!

Weighed in today at 204.6 - officially the lightest I've been since I can remember! This is a really exciting day for me. I'm going to go for a run soon, hope you all have a great day!

You ladies give the best advice!

I planned on running tonight, but I have no hot water and maintenance won't come fix it until tomorrow morning! Isn't that wrong?!? Anyway, there is no way I can go to bed without showering after a good run...

Losingit - screw the week, think about TODAY! What can you do today to make yourself feel successful? Go for a walk, make sure you get all of your water in, or plan a healthy dinner full of fresh produce and lean protein. Don't try and do all of them, but you CAN do something! The little things will help get your week back on track :)

I wasn't able to get in that run last night, and it's probably for the best because I didn't drink nearly enough water during the day. I went this morning, and it was a rough run. Like I said, I didn't drink enough water yesterday and I didn't eat anything before the run. I was sluggish and my muscles got tired sooner than they normally do. I wanted to stop at 20 minutes, but I thought about how angry I'd be with myself later and managed to get in about 2.25 miles (~24 minutes) before I had to call it quits. Lesson learned: water and food are key!

Well, this week is looking as promising as last week... didn't make it to the gym at all this week yet. Monday and Tuesday was crazy... and today I haven't felt motivated. Help me! I need some motivation. Plus, I know I haven't ate that well.. gave into some tempting foods.

JLLLEW00, I hope you went for that run! Running helps my cramps so much - it's what got me through last week!

I had two options this morning: run and chaffe really badly (yet again) or go get some new spandex. I went for the spandex. Cost a pretty penny, but it's worth it in my book. Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in a run this evening!

I am so excited the way this forum is going! You ladies are having such great results!

I am tempted to go running today, but I have the worst cramps from my TOM that I don't want to leave the couch!!! I know that exercise is the best way to fight it, but wow!

Keep up the great job and consistency!

I have to either get running, or get ready for work...hmmm...

Katy - how cool! I knew 2 people who also ran the MCM. It was their 3rd marathon of the year.... Yes, they both acknowledge they're crazy, and they have both now decided to retire from the marathon industry ;c) But to do 3 in one year is extraordinary, so I'm very proud of them!!

Brenna - you're right about it not being about speed. It should just be about how much you're improving in general. Sometimes it is fun, though, to see you break your own records. Sorry to hear about your back. Ouch!! That certainly sounds painful!!! Do you have a heating pad? Turn that sucker on full blast and lay on it for an hour, then once it's all warmed up, have a friend try to just rub at it for a little. Not saying it will completely go away, but it may help.

That's the ticket Katy - never give up!

Puma, I've never run a sub-9 minute mile in my life. Don't think about speed. It's all about endurance. My miles nowadays are anywhere from 10:45-12:00, but I can run so much longer then I ever thought I'd be able to!

Yesterday I did a nice and easy 2 mile run to let my muscles catch up with me. This morning I did 3 miles faster than I've ever done 3 miles before - 33:19! Super excited, but like I said, speed isn't everything.

I've had a gruesome knot in my back for the past few days, so I've been trying to get that sorted out. Last night I had a friend walk all over my back - she thought her foot was on my spine because it was so hard - nope! It was my knotted muscle. It feels better after her jumping all over me, but it's still fairly tight. Any ideas?

-Brenna

This weekend I went to watch my boyfriend run in the Marine Corps Marathon in DC. There were over 30,000 people running that marathon. It was incredible. Just to know that there are 30,000 people just in my area who are willing and able to run 26.2 miles is unbelievable.

And even more unbelievable were the different people running it. Yes, there were your hardened athletes, the women with abs of steel, the military men, the teenagers, even the crazies who had no problem running the entire thing in their Halloween costumes. If those had been the only people I had seen, I would have totally been like "See, I certainly could never do anything like this." But there were other people. There were the over-75 runners, the brain cancer survivor, the women who walked more than they ran, the man pushing his disable son in a stroller, not to mention the group doing the marathon in their wheelchairs. I saw every size/shape/weight/age/body type out there reaching for their goals.

I, myself, have absolutely no desire to run a marathon. But after observing those remarkable achievements, I am totally motivated to reach my own goals. Really, if I want it bad enough and work hard enough, there isn't anything I can't accomplish. So we can do this. Our goals are achievable (certainly more achievable than 26.2 miles!). It's going to be difficult. There are going to be obstacles along the way: illness and injuries, the *evil* scale, our crazy schedules, the ice cream calling to us from the freezer (my personal obstacle); but we can't let them stop us. Once we've recovered from our setbacks, we've got to keep on reaching for our goals and never give up.

I've got to say, I love reading all your posts. Seeing that I'm not the only one who has rough days and setbacks is reassuring. And seeing how you all handle them and keep on going is really motivating. So thank guys! Have a wonderful Monday and good luck!

~Katy~

ok, brenna, you rock! your stamina is just amazing!!!! i haven't been able to run over a mile in YEARS (well i kind of did run 2.5 miles on the treadmill, but later i found out that it was miscalibrated, haha!! how's that for a kick in the rear?). so seeing you reach your running goals and even surpassing them makes me realize that that's all it takes... slow steps, and don't force it upon yourself all at once. i think that's been my main problem with running. i'm 25 now, and in high school i did cross country, so i was used to being able to run whenever i felt like it. well i haven't really "run run" since then, so if i tried to just start up again, i would be in such pain. i need to gradually work my body back to that state, i just sometimes forget that it's been, oh, 8 or 9 years since i ran a 7.15 mile.

losinit - hope you're feeling better! nobody likes the flu! was it all swiney and whatnot? some kids at the preschool where i work got it, so i'm hoping i don't. washing my hands like crazy!!!

i truly am loving this forum and this challenge. great motivation and loving advice from everyone!!

AND! i have a success!! yesterday i power walked on a beautiful trail for 40 minutes, and today i walked for 20 minutes around the apartment complex!! two days in a row of moving! that's huge for me! and also halfway to my weekly goal of 2 hours. but now after all this daily goal talk, i'm thinking i may wanna switch to daily goals! ;c)

You know, I never seriously thought about breaking working out down into daily goals really. I read the whole thing about breaking down larger goals into smaller ones (which is SUPER helpful) but somehow a week is the smallest increment I've really looked at for working out. I think looking at it in a daily way will be helpful. Thanks for the idea - don't know why I didn't think of it myself.

LOSINGIT - I hope you feel better this week. The flu knocked me down last week and it stunk.

Brenna-- good for you for sticking with it! I love your attitude.

Well, everyone... didn't quite reach 90 min this week... was able to reach 45, then I came down with the flu and that has knocked me on my bottom... so my goal for next week is 90 min, assuming I am better by then

Sure does set the tone!

Today I somehow managed to run 4 miles with no walking (?!). As far as mini goals, I don't think much further ahead than the week (and that's stretching it). This challenge is great because it keeps me motivated, but in all honesty, having weight goals every week doesn't really do it for me.

Take this week for example - my goal was to be 207 or under, which would be the lightest I've been since middle school. This seemed like a reasonable goal because it mean I only had to lose ONE pound to reach 207. I weighed in and I had gained. Bummer, right? Not really. Earlier this week I couldn't run 2 miles without stopping. About mid-week, I ran those two miles, and I felt AWESOME! Yesterday I ran THREE miles without stopping and I was elated because that was about the max I was at when I was at the peak of my training for a 5k last spring. Today, I did FOUR miles. No stopping. And to boot, at the 3 mile marker, I was 1:15 faster than the three miles I did yesterday.

Personally, it's so much better for me to have daily goals (or at look ahead 1-2 days). Today, I set out to do a 1 mile recovery run from the 10 miles I had already accrued this week. It was a push for me to get out of the house, because to be honest, the scale DID bother me a little bit. But I reasoned with myself, and remembering what I once heard Jillian Michaels say on The Biggest Loser, "If you want to succeed, sweat everyday." So I put on my workout clothes and went to go sweat.

My goal for the workout was 1 mile, which felt great, so I made a 2 mile goal. Still felt strong so I went for 3, hoping to get under yesterday's 35:00 3-miler. I did that, and felt like I had more in me, so I pushed myself. A blister I stupidly allowed myself to get earlier in the week had reopened, my inner thighs had rubbed together and chaffed so much that I little broke the skin, but I kept going. Four miles was my goal for the day, and I did it. I couldn't be happier!

Maybe try something similar - sure 90 minutes for the week is GREAT, but that could be overwhelming. You get busy, miss one workout, maybe two, and then you think to yourself, "Man there's no WAY I'll be able to get 90 minutes of cardio this week. What's the point?" When you're about to go to bed at night, try to plan your day so that you can get a 15 minute walk in before going out to do your errands or go to work. If you have the time, go longer. If you don't, stop at 15 minutes and get on with your day. Maybe it's just me, but a week is... well, it's daunting to be honest. Days are so much more manageable!

4 miles - 45:10
@ 3 miles - 34:45
@ 5k - 36:10

How's everyone else doing?

Brenna, that's a great way to start the week off! It sets the tone for the week ahead for sure.

I didn't even touch my goal of 90 min of exercise this past week. I got 15 min of walking, which hardly counts for me.

Next week, I'm doing the same challenge - 90 min of working out. I'm doing it until I actually complete it.

Do you have any mini goals that you work towards?

Happy Friday, all! I started off my weekend strong with a solid 3 mile run this morning - I had to slow down my pace a little bit so I wouldn't burn myself out, but I managed it in 35 minutes and I am super proud of myself.

Stay strong through the weekend, everyone, and don't forget your water!

I really just wanted to see who could get 90 min this week, no details necessary! Just meeting the goal would be an accomplishment for me. I know already I'm struggling for it because I procrastinated Friday-Sunday, and Monday I got sick. Still sick today in that I feel like I'm kind of lightheaded which doesn't bode well for working out. I'm still going to see if I can get anything in tomorrow to meet the goal, but I don't know if I can do it with the way I feel today.

I kind of feel like being sick is just an excuse, but I really don't think I could have a normal workout like this. I walked around for 15 min yesterday and by the end of it I felt like I was going to pass out.

I guess on the flip side I'm not hungry at all, but still trying to get in all my water.

"There's always today."

Puma, try not to feel too demoralized - your body might not respond immediately, but that doesn't mean that your hard work won't pay off. Maybe you just can't see your successes yet! Try to take out your scale frustrations on something that is positive for your weight loss - go for a run (I LOVE running when I'm angry or annoyed because I end up working harder), cook a healhty meal, blog about it, et cetera. Just don't let your actions in the present contradict what you want in the long run. With binge/emotional eating, watching that marathon of your favorite TV show instead of working out, or any other "woe-is-me" activity, you're convincing yourself that you're not worth it, or that you can't succeed. YOU CAN!

The scale is just one way of measuring success in getting healthy and weight loss. I've been having issues with the scale, too, and you know what? To hell with the scale! I ran two miles today (with no walking). Last week I gave up after running 9 minutes and didn't even finish one mile. Look how far I've come! And the scale today said that I'm two pounds heavier than I was on Saturday.

Take it all with a grain of salt!

I'm doing a mini workout challenge this week if anyone wants to join. I'm committing to doing 90 min this week. I know it's not a lot, but it's better than the zero that I have been doing. I've been eating pretty well for a couple weeks so I need to step up working out. Anyone who has a tough time getting to workout - want to join me?

i'm feeling sad and frustrated recently. i was not at all pleased with my weigh in, but i told myself that i wouldn't let it affect me... apparently it did. i've been eating a lot this weekend (fri, sat, and today) and have been doing a lot of sitting on my behind. can i really lose motivation that easily?? ugh. just feeling a bit down (and up, weight wise, i'm sure)

Well I had a cheat day yesterday. I didn't go crazy but didn't track and am sure I came close. It felt good to give myself a one day break.

I am back on track today though. I told my husband this morning, I know it's Sunday but make sure I work out......lol! Can someone confirm that Oct 22 is the week 4 weigh in date? I did start early but will just catch up :)

I am off to a scrapbooking course this afternoon. I will check in after my workout ;) Hope everyone is having a motivational day......just think NEW YEARS EVE!!! emoticon

Hate to tell everyone this, but I'm off track again, but I'm striving to get back on track. My puppy has been sick and have missed some time at the gym driving him back and forth to the vet... for the past 2 mornings when I usually make time to go to the gym, I've had to take him to the vet to get an IV treatment...but I'll be back on track soon...

Hi,

I am just getting ready for work and thought of the challenge this morning. Before making breakfast I checked out the calories and made the best choice ;)

I am proud of myself! Thanks for the motivation team! Let's do this for ourselves ;)

Linarex - I am right with you on staying within my calories but slacking on the exercise. All week, I've had my gym bag packed, but I can't seem to get myself to go. I did manage to get my butt out for a short run yesterday and plan on going again tomorrow.

My accomplishment this week was writing everything down - even the not so healthy stuff. I went a little over on calories some days, under some, so I figure it balances out on average.

We'll see how the scale looks tomorrow - hopefully I'll have something to show for my week.

hey jojobutterfly, sorry to hear your disappointment. i know the feeling, of working so darn tootin hard that you're positive there will be some number to show for it. and then poof. don't give up though, one week is one week, not the whole challenge! keep going!!

so do we weigh in tomorrow morning and put it on that other thread, then?

i've done well i think food wise. and only decent water wise. i used to be amazing with water! 8-10 every day! but the past 2 months i've truly been slacking. rar rar.

My small victory this week - staying in my cal range the ENTIRE week so far. On the low end too.

That said, I cannot force myself to go workout. My gym is a block away from where I live and I just can't bring myself to go there. Once I get home from work, I feel like my time gets eaten up so quickly. It's a good thing I like working out at night, but I'm really struggling to just get there in the first place.

I have been staying within my calorie range the last couple of days, which is what I struggle the most with. I really think writing down everything I eat helps so much! I also got a great work out in today and all my water!

Day 1 went ok - I stayed within my calorie range and wrote down everything I ate as part of my "how I am going to acheive my goals". I didn't keep track of my water, but I feel like I was a little under.

My suceess so far for today: It was someone's last day of work, which meant cake and coffee at break time - I managed to stay away from the cake and occupy my hands with coffee so I wasn't tempted to even pick up a plate. (If only every obstacle could be that easy)

I got in 10 glasses of H2O yesterday! WOOHOO! I also had nothing else but coffee in the am...no soda at all (diet coke and diet mt dew are necessities to me!)

Alright ladies - how did you all do with day 1?

Oh, and I am going to be boxing for 30 minutes after work today and maybe going for a jog (if it's not too cold out!) If not, I may throw 30 Day Shred in and get another good 20 minute workout!

Considering this is the first official day of the 12 week challenge, let's start off on the right foot!

Nutrition Challenge - Week One
This week, try to get in 8-10 glasses of H2O, or more!

Fitness Challenge - Week One
Try to push a little further this week...try adding 5 minutes to your cardio and/or 3 reps to your strength training.

These small steps will get progressively more challenging as the weeks continue...let's get sexy!
