It's been a while since I checked in here. Today is a beautiful autumn day, so I went for a bike ride. I increased my distance and still finished around the same time as I usually do, which is really exciting! My legs are sore from a 5 miler we did on Friday, but I just need to run more often. I find that I need to pop my pelvic joint the more often I run, but I'm never quite sure what it means.

How's everyone else doing? :)

PT test today. Sit-ups sucked because abs were sore from Wednesday. Maxed push-ups, and did okay on the run. Could have done better.

Then I went to my total body conditioning class a couple hours later~~my favorite parts of the week are my weight classes! I love to see and feel myself getting stronger and sweating up a storm!

Went on my run yesterday. Did 5 miles at around a 10min/mile pace.

Messed something up in my knee, so I'm taking it easy and icing today. I'd think I'll be fine tomorrow.

45 minutes of snow shoveling. Roughly a 2 mile walk down into the snow. Stroller got replaced by a sled.

Congrats on getting through the VA Voc Rehab process! And there's always a few more hoops, isn't there?

Got a few shorter walks in yesterday. It started drizzling. Raining overnight. It'll switch over to snow again today through tomorrow, then off to Ripley tomorrow morning for drill.

They're getting 4-8" of snow up there tomorrow. Should be a "fun" APFT.

LOL!!! OH Well!!! I got a 10 minute walk in today and nothing else. However, I was approved for the VA Vocational Rehabilitation today so after jumping through a few more hoops I'll be going to college!!! Didn't sleep much last night so I'm thinking I'll sleep like a rock tonight!!! HOOAH!!!

Took another walk or two yesterday. Just ran 4 miles. It was slow. It was nice to run 4 miles. Pretty sure I've got some chaffage issues.

The Boston deal is quite sad - I saw it break on CNN and watched it for a while last night.

Yesterday: Got a 3 mile walk in at lunch, picked up another 2 with the kid when I got home.

Today: Finished up 6 sets of 60/120s. My wife had a doctors apt so I got to be a "stay at home dad" for the morning. It was rather nice. Went on another 2 mile walk with the kid. She had her first sucker.

Somehow I knew you lived in Minnesnowta...LOL!!! Got a wild hair and went for a change, figured it couldn't hurt. Sort of bumming today about Boston and haven't gotten out yet for a walk. Also I'm finishing up all the stuff they want me to have for the VA Vocational Rehabilitation Orientation/interview on Wednesday. I'm not going to let being bummed stay in my way though. even if I don't get out today, I'm getting back out there tomorrow regardless. Hang tough, I think you have a good plan leading to Saturday.

Had a fantastic and pretty lazy weekend. Got my quota of shoveling in over the weekend :) Well, yesterday was just an ice/sleet storm. Good times. Luckily, I hit the trails this morning - the snow was there in some places, along with a little ice, but it really looked pretty good. Decided to push the run out to 3 miles today to help make up for some lost ground over the weekend.

My good friend had a set of Twins tickets - open air stadium - his wife didn't want to go because it was so cold out. Free tickets, 3rd row in left field. Was a nice game even though we lost.

Thanks for the well wishing - it means a lot. I freaked out with the new name. I thought to myself "Who the hell is Papasmurf". Then I opened one up and said "oh, that makes more sense".

It's going to be a pretty tough week - I want to push everything hard through Wednesday, then take Thurs/Fri off with a PT test on Saturday. Get a couple walks in, sure, but I want to make sure the muscles have a chance to build back up some.

3+ miles walked today. going to start with my stairs, push ups and sit ups on alternating days again beginning tomorrow. Got some serious cooking done this weekend and a bit more left to do. Going to finish getting my VA Vocational Rehab paperwork gathered and finished tomorrow to for my appointment on Wednesday. Going to be an interesting week. Best wishes to you Dan for yours!!!

Can't say you don't get your cardio or anaerobic in with all that walking though snow and shoveling it too...LOL!!! I got over 3 miles walked again today. I'm going to stick to just walking the rest of this week through the weekend and on Monday get back to my push ups, sit ups and stairs again. With the weather warming up, I'm going to get an earlier start too come Monday, Like getting out the door by 7:30. Not having to deal with temps in the teens that early is a much better incentive for my old body...LOL!!!

Welcome back!

Went on a walk yesterday at lunch, and then another long one with the kiddo when I got home. We saw a duck. It got away. camdenwebworks.com/img/duck%2

Had a fantastic weekend.

So a couple of things..
I started the new run schedule, and it's been 2 on 1 off. So far it's gone quite well. I end up sore again, which I haven't been running every other day. Run time is down a bit more, not where I want it yet, but I feel that I'm making good progress on it and I have 2 weeks to get it to where I want to.

My strength training days shifted around a bit to work with the run days. So far so good. This week will be the real test, and then next week, strangely, is going to be a little lighter with a PT test next weekend.

Got out and about quite a bit this weekend - lots of walking. Starting to dry out up here, finally, and dry out sans ice.

How'd reverting back to the old plan work for you today, Jeff?

Yeah, I think I'm going to step it up. Body's feeling pretty rested most the time, need to push it harder.

Just got back from my run. 2 miles down, Spring is here! Got too hot and had to take my hoodie off. Still pretty icy. Ate pavement going down a hill. Oh well!

Sounds good. but you know your body. If you feel you are up to the task try it for a couple weeks. If it's still a good fit then stick to it. If not then either go back or readjust. I'm almost to the point where I'm ready to incorporate a more physical regimen back into my schedule. I've got a rhythm to my studies down now and I want to get back to burning calories again and not just maintaining by diet. Got my 10 minute walk in.

I missed my lunch-break walk yesterday. Work's pretty busy at the end of the month.

Just finished up an hour in the basement on the bench. I think that I might revisit my workout a little bit and incorporate more cardio, but keep the strength training the same. I'm running every other day right now (3x / week; M/W/F). I think it might make more sense to do MT, ThFS (for 5 days) with Wednesday and Sunday off. Right now each of the runs is typically around 3 miles.

Thinking Monday, Thursday would be the longer 3-4 mile runs.
Tuesday, Friday would be 60/120s.
Saturday would be a 2-3 mile run - but at a real light/slow pace.

Thoughts?

Finished another phase of math and moving on to a new one today. I understand what you mean! My first run in decades reminded me of that, and I was inside on a treadmill!!! Keep up the good work!!! I got out for another 10 minute walk. I'm going to try to take a couple longer walks this weekend.

Math is harder then getting out. I'm taking a math class right now. I really really really do not enjoy it.

Just finished up a 30 minute run - first one this week. It's crisp. My lungs burn - feels like I've been smoking menthol cigarettes for 30 minutes instead of running, and I haven't had a smoke in years.

Slow run - real slow run. Still better than doing nothing.

Got in a mile and a half walk (man, it was cold). 4" of snow needed shoveling. Hit the exercise bike for 20 minutes and just finished up with an hour on the weight bench.

We did 7 sets of ladder sprints, squats, push-ups, and the rower at PT this morning. Then I went to my conditioning class at the gym and while it felt like a light day, I can feel my sore shoulders now. Maybe it's from PT, maybe it's from using a heavier set of weights. Who knows? All I know is, I love that class. I don't do weights unless I'm with someone else--gonna need to find a buddy to workout with when I go active. :)

Had drill this last weekend and headed in this morning to the OBGYN to see how the little bean was doing. Looks like we'll be having a boy a few days before I head to MOS-T training (my wife's due on the 9th, I head to school on the 14th).

I'll need to get the shoveling done when I get home - another 5-6" of snow today. Last year I spent St. Paddy's Day weekend working on the garden. This year it was spent digging out!

No running today - I'll have to hit that terrible bike when I get home, though.

Those bikes really are uncomfortable. I had intended to ride my actual bike when I went home on Friday in the good weather, but I kept finding excuses not to. Hoping tomorrow's PT will ramp up some endorphins and keep me moving throughout the week! :)

Woke up to an ice storm. I knew it was going to happen, and I knew I should have gone for a run last night instead, but I didn't. Hit the stationary bike for 20 minutes instead, then ran off to work.

Haven't used a stationary bike in years - new ways to feel uncomfortable, I suppose :p

Good job both of you!!! Keep pushing!!! Your goals are attainable. No one said it would be a cake walk, but things that are worthwhile never are!!! In spite of my adjustments I still am getting out and walking every day even if it isn't as much as I was doing before. I'd rather do a little every day than make excuses. I'd only be cheating myself anyhow. 10 minute walk today. Catch you both tomorrow!!!

Congrats on getting on the college bandwagon, Jeff. I recently enrolled, too. It's a timesink - but worth it. Good luck!

Goldenrose - Good luck! You've got the time to make a difference.

I've got 5 weeks until my next APFT. I haven't taken one in almost 2 years due to being on profile. While on profile I got fat - everyone loves the fatbody. I've got my run time down to 9.5 min miles - need to cut off another 1.5min in 5 weeks. Situps might be an issue because of the surgery, but I'm gunnin' for it. Need to get rid of my flag.

Hour in the basement today - feel like I got a great workout in. I'll end up on a walk or two during the day today. We're expecting snow tomorrow morning so I'll probably try to get my run in tonight so I don't break my neck tomorrow.

Yesterday I tried the 500 calorie treadmill workout---only got through two of five rounds before I had to leave, but I raised the speed for the first level, so I think it was a good start. Today, I plan on using my jump rope for at least 10 minutes and going for another run. I want my last PT test before I commission in May to be the best it can be!

Ended up making some cheese and wine this weekend - I had most of it to just my daughter and I, so it was nice to spend some quality time without mom around.

Ended up running a little over 2 miles today. It's been warming up some so everything is covered in ice - doesn't make for much of a fun run, but it still felt good to get out and do something.

I've found that if you stop to kick yourself you'll usually lose some motivation/forward progress. Good call on pushing forward.

Congrats on the run - I'm not a huge fan of running when I do it but I usually feel pretty great when I finish up. Did 30 minutes this morning - I guess the city hasn't gotten to the trails yet - running in a foot of mostly fresh snow was a workout.
