I'm working on my water. I need to remember to take a bottle of water outside with me when I plan to garden. Roadblocks: getting enough rest and having serious discussions with my husband about my health needs. emoticon

I never realized that high salt foods would fluctuate my weight daily.....something I will definitely need to cut back on. My road blocks are snacking in the afternoons if I stay in the house...so I definitely need to get out more. I like the stickers on the calendar idea.

I drank almost 8 cups of water today--7 total. I think the MAJOR roadblock is time constraints. Too much to do and not enough time.

My biggest roadblock is my failure to be consistent. This month I will work on this. Each day that I meet my challenge I am going to put a sticker on my calendar. I hope to have a sticker on each day of the month.

My biggest problem is chronic stress too. I am used to dealing with the more frequent than usual falls and chokes and I adjust position pretty automatically. I will always be stressed out by not being allowed to work in my field post TBI because I can't get help getting through the system. Of course there are always some additional stresses when my dependants (a large 'feral' cat colony that has been around longer than I have including some who are at the house) have problems. I'm afraid those bills can get pretty steep at times.

When I eat high salt foods my weight goes up 5 or 6 pounds in a day. I need to watch my salt intake and that Easter ham is defininatly a road block. I will drink my water.

My biggest roadblock is Dr. Pepper and fast food...trying to make sure I eat at home as much as possible. With the Dr. Pepper, trying to just drink enough to kill the craving and then get back to the 8 glasses a day of water!

My roadblock has been mindless snacking if I have alcohol.
I have not been drinking very much because of that but some days are so overwhelming I find wine in the evening to be a well deserved distraction. I have to stop that though. I have found that if I get on the elliptical about 8:00 pm it kind of settles my mind and I don't have the desire to drink anything. But sometimes I can't bring myself to work out one more minute so I give in and have the grape !

LOL, I've been so busy answering Spark Mail and charting the challenge participants (so that everyone will be sure to get their celebratory Spark Goodie at the end of the month!) that I forgot to post my own answer to this thread yesterday...

My biggest roadblocks: I'm basically lazy when it comes to doing exercise for the sake of exercise -- but I want to be stronger and able to do the "fun" things that I enjoy, so I will make myself do it anyway! My roadblock for staying in my calorie range is that I'm a pretty good cook and love to eat -- I'm going to focus on finding healthier alternatives to my usual favorites, and use my nutrition tracker diligently to keep portion sizes in control. Finally, I live in a "drinking culture" and enjoy drinking socially and while watching TV in the evening -- but I really can't afford those extra calories that have no nutritional value, so, like the exercise, I will just do this!

I don't, however, have any problem drinking enough water -- I have a couple of the insulated plastic cups with a lid and a straw that I keep filled with water and sip on throughout the day -- and I consider myself extremely fortunate to live where my water comes from my township water system (a deep well) and meets purity standards that require no chemical treatment!

My biggest roadblocks are the medications I currently must take. I do not make a lot of progress in weight loss. Now I have more physical challenges that I need to accommodate in my exercise choices. The medication issue time will take care of. The physical issues I am heading to the doctor to figure out what is going on and I will choose some different exercises so I do not injure myself more.

Stress is my biggest road block. Also, even though it is April, it is still 30 degree temps and mostly indoor weather for my 2 year old and I this time of year, so moving more is tough. I plan to create an action plan. I plan to try and get a few minutes of sun each day as part of this plan. By the end of the month, I want to be walking him to daycare in the mornings at least 3 days per week.

The eight glasses of water per day is always very difficult for me. If I chug it all at once, just to get it in, then my stomach feels stretched out and I feel hungrier all day long. If I drink it gradually throughout the day, my BP meds with a diuretic component have me desperate to go potty (I said I have a 2 year old) all day. Problem: I am a teacher. Teachers aren't allowed to go potty often. I get to go twice per day if I am lucky and without the 8 glasses of water am desperate by both opportunities. I hate dehydrating myself, but I don't know how to manage the other problem if I don't. I will try it today...

My biggest roadblock is myself. Just trying to stay within my daily calorie count and getting in my water intake. Being I am unemployed the other is stress, with not having the money to buy the proper foods to eat. Veggies are high in price. But, I have to lose this weight, so I will do my best.

My biggest stumbling roadblock is STRESS, right now I am taking over my parents finances because my dad is sick and my mom is in the hospital. Wedding season begins in 2 weeks here at the Inn and I am not ready. I am not taking the time to fix meals that are good for me, I am just grabbing whatever is around.

To late when I post and I fall asleep in the middle of my logging or posting. I don't get my exercise in if I don't do it before anything else in the morning. When I don't cook at home my sodium count gets to high.

One of my road blocks at the gym is wanting to get my work out over with so I can get all to all the other things I need to get done.
My plan to overcome this is to focus on the positive outcomes of spending even just a little longer working out.
Another road block I have is loneliness in the evenings.
My plan to overcome this is to make coffee/frozen yogurt dates with friends, make phone calls in the evening, and do more housework in the evenings.

My biggest roadblock is stress!! I'm not enjoying my job any more and there's stress at home as we try to get our 22 year old to move out and become a human. My plan is to try and get more sleep and exercise - both help me control weight and feel less stress. Also, I need to take time for myself in the evening reading or listening to music.

My biggest block is I have a stressful job and after work I am numb. I force myself to walk on the treadmill daily. The sweet tooth I cure with those MIO drink enhancers!!! 0 cal, 0 carb, 0 0 0 everything. You can add as much or little as you want and they are really delicious..

I work for a cardiologist that says "all that water puts too much stress on your heart" and that you should only drink when thirsty. so I am on the edge with the water, but I cut out soda almost completely. Only decaffeinated beverages.

With Christ I can do anything!

Chocolate is the big one for weight loss. I will have to get to work on the water intake, I have a journal to record it in. I did my 35 minutes of exercise biking and will have to lower the snack intake. I am trying to just do 3 meals a day and keep the portions under control. Will note blood pressure in the journal on Tuesdays and Saturdays mostly.

My biggest immediate hurdle is to find my notebook.

I did get a walk in today. I have kept my food consumption within bounds, so far, and know what I will eat for dinner and snack later.

Half my water down, the rest will be later.

Back exercises and dvd to come.

I am making progress!

Water isn't usually a problem for me. I am my biggest roadblock. I always put others needs before my own. Also there are people in my life that who "kindly" encourage me to forget my goals. Tempting me by buying foods etc that aren't good for me because they don't care about healthy eating for themselves. Enough of that... Focus and keep putting one foot in front of another. Beth

I usually don't have a problem drinking 80 oz of water a day - actually, we are supposed to drink 1/2 oz per pound of body weight, so I am short if I drink only 80oz. And, I can tell, because I'll get thirsty. I love to exercise, so that is not a problem. For those who have a bit of arthritis, try adding turmeric to your diet - either the spice, or take it in a tablet. Also, go for swimming, which is easy on the joints.
I have just about every obstacle mentioned - plus the breast cancer meds cause me to use 1/3 less calories per day, so I know to keep portions small; difficult when it's something I love. I'm also so tired by evening that I don't feel like making good meals.

Biggest roadblock is the sabotage from those around me. I live with people who eat very badly...but they can cause they are thin. I've got temptation in front of my face ALL the time. I need to figure out how to deal with this temptation...one instance at a time.

Right now, I am in the determined stage. Have an MD appt next week and she wanted me to lose wt because not only do I have high BP, I also have prediabetes. I've lost 10 lbs and am determined to lose 20 more.

I do find that I don't get all my exercise in every day. Just lose track of time, so that will be what I will work on.

Good luck everybody.

Highly motivated

Water is never, ever an issue with me, so that's a done deal.

Roadblocks: once everything is settled down in the evening, I watch tv AND EAT. It's part of mindless eating and "numbing" through food.

Plan of action: plan out my snacks (starting NOW) and stick to it. That'll be tougher this week because I'm off.

Ok, well, I'm off to PLAN! Y'all take care!

Drinking water - no problem.
Roadblocks - turning OFF the computer and going to bed! I'm up past my self-imposed "all electronics off" deadline tonight - again.
My plan for that is to keep a log, and every 15 minutes I am up past my bedtime I will donate 5 kroner to Redd Barna (I live in Norway, and that is Save the Children.)

My biggest struggle is in planning my meals. While most of the foods I eat are healthy, if I don't plan I can go over my allowed calories for the day.

My goal is to set up meal plans on Sunday for the work week ahead instead of just grabbing something and then trying to manage calories.

8 cups of water already drunk. This is generally not a problem for me.

My roadblocks - anything sweet, especially in the evening and arthritis in the knees that make exercise difficult. I try to keep moving but it's not always easy, especially when it's cold outside.

Roadblocks are sugar/carb cravings and avoidance of exercise. I will develop a simple exercise routine that I can stick to and make exercise a priority! I will distract myself when cravings are an issue or make food substitutions.

Biggest obstacle for me is probably my busy lifestyle. To help overcome this I should do the following: plan meals ahead, especially dinner, so that I am not relying on take out. Honestly I think I should make myself an hour by hour calendar for each day & follow it as close as I can. That way I can schedule my exercise in. The other obstacle I face is myself - I need to kick myself in gear and stop making excuses. Unfortunately this has been a lifelong obstacle that is fueled by low self esteem & depression. But I WILL get over it!

One day at a time!!

The water isn't a problem I have a 24 oz. glass that gets filled at least 3x a day. Easy enough.

My roadblock is my attitude. My husband is in hospice care and so is very sedentary and spends most of his day in the living room of our small home reading, computering or watching TV. It's easy just to sit and keep him company rather than getting up and moving. I've made a commitment to a local gym and now I just have to work at keeping that commitment. And I do find it WORK to do so but I'm back to 1 day at a time and thankfully the weather is getting nicer which means even short walks for me. Trying to get a plan to get that exercising as a regular/natural part of my life.

I want to add an additional goal and that is to post on this challenge every day to help keep me motivated and encouraged to reach the other goals in my life.

After today it is back to walking to work. I turn in the rental car this afternoon, Medical appointments are over for awhile. I must start drinking more water, starting today. One small step at a time and I will get there.

have you tried any of the Extra Dessert Sensations Gum? i have the same sweet tooth problem. this product has really helped in that area. Each stick is only 5 calories and has the flavor of some of my favorite desserts. In my area we have strawberry shortcake, key lime pie, mint chocolate chip (my all time favorite), and even root beer float.

Drinking enough water is not a problem for me. I have a picture that holds 8 glasses of water and my rule is it must be empty before I go to bed.

My stumbling block is the scale because regardless of whether it reads up or down it triggers over eating.
My plan is to put the scale out of sight and rely on NSV. (non scale victories)

I have become better at drinking 64 ounces of H2O a day and I am still working on that area. My roadblocks are myself and my work schedule. I work retail and do not have set hours. The way I work a lot of days it is hard to find time to exercise or do things that I know I need to do for myself. I need to work on finding and making time to work out and take care of myself before going to work.

I don't think that I will have a hard time with drinking 64 oz of water per day. I have almost totally eliminated soda from my diet, diet or regular. Very rarely do I drink soda.

Now to identify the roadblocks, umm.... My roadblocks start when I leave work. Too tired from work, busy, watching TV, not enough sleep. I've got a few of them. I will try to make some adjustments to over come these roadblocks. There is nothing I would like better that to lose 40 lbs before my next Dr appointment in 6 months.

One of my biggest roadblocks is having my parents live with me. They are big snackers and DO NOT eat healthy at all! I find the temptation absolutely brutal with all the junk food in my house. My plan is to remain strong, fill my cupboards with as much healthy food as i can, track my calories and avoid the junk at all cost.

Another roadblock for me is not taking the time for me and doing whats best for MY health. My plan is to take atleast 1hr a day for myself to destress and do what i love most.... read a book!

My roadblock is myself. I do for my love ones, which makes me not be able to workout for the day and i do this as an excuse. What I need to do is workout first then go help my love ones, this way I am able to also help myself. I need to stop thinking that if I put myself first, I am a bad person for not putting my love ones first. I need to realize that helping myself get healthy is also helping my love ones.

I went to my meeting with my Running 101 class and I think it is a great group. They are all beginners and a lot with less experience than me. I was nervous that they would be more advanced, but no need to worry. Our first walk/run is tomorrow evening and the instructor gave us our schedule for our workouts on the other days. I am excited!

Hopefully this and continuing to make good food choices will help me with my continued weight loss and help keep my blood pressure in check.

My first roadblock is no routine. I work 2 18 hour shifts. I'm home the rest of the time. On the days I work, I usually try to do some sleeping but that's not always possible.

My second roadblock is entitlement. I do work hard, I'm a single mom of two girls, one is gone from the house now 26 years old. and a 17 year old who is a handful. I am also newly engaged for the first time. I feel entitled to cheat. I really need to work on this but can't seem to get that feeling out of my head. It's been my biggest hurdle my whole life. I've always worked hard and rarely get much, not good paying jobs but respectable. And raising two girls completely alone is difficult too. I feel like I've earned a break, just need to get my head adjusted to where the break I get isn't food....

Peace love and mittens

Roadblock to a set bedtime? Sometimes I'm just not tired yet! I'll bet tiring out my body and mind during the day will help.

Roadblock to eating more fish? I'm the only one in my house who will venture that far away from meat-n-potatoes.

I'm good with drinking water, it is one thing I do right and with consistency. I am not exercising. I don't belong to a gym and I don't like working out at home. It's a hurdle and I'm working on getting my head back in the game. I can't lose weight if I don't exercise. I've proven this to myself. It's me, it's my problem and I will get back on track. It's just taking time.

My biggest roadblock is arthritis pain - even though I know the exercise helps with the pain, it's tough to get up and get going when my knees scream "you fool! sit back down!" emoticon

My biggest roadblock is that I have trouble getting to sleep at a decent hour and that is when I tend to snack. When I am not careful, I will eat crackers. This is especially bad for my sodium goals, but sure doesn't help calories either. I am in the second week of the sleep challenge team, so I am working on it.

I am a secretary for a large school district and we are currently preparing the final exams for printing, so unfortunately, I will be "glued" to my seat for the next 2 weeks while I finish my piece of the big puzzle. This usually keeps me from getting any physical activity during the day; hopefully, once I finish all the OTHER stuff I have to do AFTER work, I'll be able to do something "mobile" before bedtime!!

Caring for several older and sick friends and relatives is stressful and leads me to snack on things I shouldn't eat. Also we end up eating out on the run a lot more than we should. DH and I need to start doing more cooking and eating at home. And I need to keep DH out of the snack food aisles when we shop!

My biggest roadblock is my sweet tooth. I have a hard time passing up cakes, pies, and candy. My cravings tend to turn into obsessions so when I do give in to them I overdo in a big way. I'm using this month to retrain my brain. Whenever I crave a forbidden sweet, I'll either have a low calorie substitute (low fat chocolate milk for a candy bar, apple for apple pie) or at the very least picture myself enjoying a veggie or fruit instead. Also, I'll eat good-for-me food often enough throughout the day that I don't get hungry and grab something I really shouldn't eat just because it's close to hand.

For my goal of being in range on my sodium 25 days out of 30 this month, the biggest thing I will need to watch out for is convenience foods. In the beginning of my Spark journey, I was relying heavily on canned soup for low calorie lunches. But even in the reduced sodium varieties, there is a LOT of sodium. So I am being more aware of sodium when I eat out and taking fewer processed foods to work.

And I'm working on getting my water in right now. emoticon

my biggest road blocks are

myself. I need to be more accountable for making myself do what i need to do.
meals. crazy time at work right now.

I will work on not being so hard on myself if i slip or dont get something done. at present i am so hard on myself sometimes i just give up. NO MORE QUITTING.

meals. i need to use menu plans or plan menus. Use my crockpot more often. Talk to my husband and son and have them help me cook meals when i am working late. I have a wonderful support system at home, I just need to allow myself to use it.

I am working on my water today.

Everyone have a wonderful and blessed day today.

I know my biggest roadblock is planning and fixing dinner.

My husband, daughter and I all work full time. We try to work together on dinner and all three have weight issues and appreciate having something light to eat, but it seems we end up falling back on fast foods and quick oven foods (fish sticks, potpie, etc).

Moving the roadblock:

Im using the Sparkpeople menus that are high fiber, low salt and vegetarian (base on my health concerns). I am hoping to integrate these with the foods my husband and daughter like as well. The advantage is it gives me a plan already in place that I can adjust to our needs.
I think another way I can help move this roadblock is by using my crockpot. This morning I put some chicken breasts (took off the skin) fresh mini-bell mushroom chunks, tomatoes, tomato paste and a seasoning mix. Im making couscous per the menu, and theyll prob have pasta of some kind.

All you need is love.
