I love scones
The one in the book says "scone, plain, packet mix, Defiance", but homemade and fruit ones did not have a rating, but I could safely say skip the scone...

I eat nuts now for a snack instead of sweets. My husband has been telling me for years to eat nuts and I didn't because of the fat. Now I know better ... all in moderation.

trail mix because it can be all over the place depending on whether raisins, dried fruit, or chocolate chips are added and the quantity of these. You can make a low gi trail mix if you go heavier on the nuts.

Nutella hazelnut spread -
Another surprise! I have an Italian friend who luvs this stuff. If you haven't heard about it, it's a chocolate hazelnut spread with sugar.
Since I got my "The Low GI Shoppers Guide to GI Values 2013" book by Dr. Jennie Brand-Miller, a renowned authority on the GI, I've been using it for this GI food game so I assume it's an excellent up-to-date authority, but the potato chips and the Nutella have surprised me. Bottom line is how fast these foods are converted to glucose and I have to trust their knowledge. But I do agree with you on your new motto Deb " when in doubt, leave it out". How about this one too, "if it doesn't sound right, don't bite".
Back to the game, next food should start with "T".

weird, the potato chips in the 2013 shoppers guides say 57 for 25g, and yet another says red on the food list provided in one of my threads, so we have low, med and high.

Strange about the dates, I checked my LowGiDiet Shopper's Guide for 2013, they are saying dates are "39-45" for 5 of them. Where did you get that reading of 103?

tomato soup
Actually, I found differing numbers for tomato soup. Campbells made with milk can be , but there were several recipes for tomato soup that were low or very low. I make mine from scratch and comparing it to the very low recipes, I think mine is in that range. Few things taste better than tomato soup made from the tomatoes in your garden.

Deb - thanks for the answer. I don't eat spaghetti often and only a small portion when I do. It does seem strange that there are so many different answers to the GI of an individual item. I wonder if it could be partly portion size. I looked up artichokes online the other day and they were said to be among the lowest with a GI of 15, but Edwards1411 found them to be a "yield" item. We could easily eat artichokes at least once a week.

Hi Susan, it truly is all in the way you cook the pasta. Al dente is best. And I believe it all boils down to how fast it turns into glucose, not so much the fiber.
I checked a couple of my books and this is what I found. I do think some books can differ.
Whole wheat spaghetti - Medium GI (1 1/2 cups) Spaghetti - Medium GI (1 1/2 cups)
So if you cook too long the gI rises.
Spaghetti, white, boiled, average 46 Spaghetti, white, boiled 20 min, average 58 Spaghetti, wholemeal, boiled, average 42

So I am wondering about pasta, whole wheat in particular.
Spaghetti, whole wheat (37)
Spaghetti, white (38)
I'm not so sure that makes sense to me. I've been using whole wheat for the last 6 months but my husband doesn't really like it. Can there really be so little difference?
