The one ingredient that stood out for me is the soy lecithin and just for the fact there is a lot of soy. I stay away from it. I used to eat these and I have thrown them out after getting better at learning what is going on with the products out there.

If and when you get them let us know what you think.

I know this doesn't have anything to do with bars of any kind but I just have to share my whoohoo that I'm having at the moment.

The cow FINALLY calved and I just brought home a half gallon of raw milk. WHOOHOO!! I've been without milk for almost 4 months. I might have to break down and have a bowl of cereal...I'll stick with guinoa flakes hot cereal. And tomorrow morning I'll be have the first eggnog for a long time. I'm giddy.

Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it’s a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they’re terrible; (that is) in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

I like Tanka Bars--70 calories and 7g protein each. Have you tried them Laura? Just 2 bars gives a good protein boost and they are very clean. Good to have around if you don't have any of your own homemade protein bars. They don't have refined stuff in them.

Here's the nutrition info:

Good point - the Larabars have all natural "sugar" from the fruit and protein from the nuts and still come in around 190-230 calories. When I was cycling - way back when, we use to eat fig newtons as a snack. Now Trader Joes carries fig cookies with whole wheat crust!!

I used to think that CLIF bars were fairly clean., But they contain SOY, so they are off of my clean list.

The first ingredient is brown rice syrup and all the soy (for me) is banned.

There is no regulatory definition of "all natural". I would not consider Clif Bars clean because they are loaded with sugar (it's their first ingredient and other forms appear in other parts of the list) and have ingredients which would not be found in a home kitchen.

Here is the ingredient list from their website: www.clifbar.com/food/products_clif_b
ar
/
.

Organic Brown Rice Syrup, ClifPro® (Soy Rice Crisps [Soy Protein Isolate, Rice Flour, Rice Starch, Barley Malt Extract], Organic Roasted Soybeans, Organic Soy Flour), Organic Rolled Oats, Organic Toasted Oats (Organic Oats, Organic Evaporated Cane Juice), Dried Apricots (Apricots, Evaporated Cane Juice, Rice Flour, Citric Acid, Ascorbic Acid), Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, ClifCrunch® (Organic Oat Fiber, Inulin [Chicory Extract], Organic Milled Flaxseed, Organic Oat Bran, Psyllium), Dried Apricots, Organic Date Paste, Organic Sunflower Oil, Natural Flavors, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Citric Acid, Sea Salt, Colored with Annatto.

How about Cliff bars - the original ones - I think all of Cliff packages say they are all natural. I stick with Larabars for the most part, but I do use Cliff Shots for my really long runs.

I have to agree. About the only bars I consider clean are Larabars. My favorite flavor is the peanut butter cookie and the only ingredients are peanuts, dates, and salt.

I wouldn't touch any commercially packaged product that advertises "diet" on their package or on TV. NO WAY! None of that stuff is clean...or very rarely will you find any that are. Stick to real food and you will be eating clean.

Definitely not. Here is an ingredient list for the Chunky Peanut Butter variety from the Think Thin Bar website:

Protein blend (calcium caseinate, soy protein isolate, whey protein isolate) ,glycerin, coating (maltitol, cocoa butter, chocolate liquor, sodium caseinate, dairy oil, soya lecithin, natural flavors, salt), glycerin, maltitol syrup, ground peanuts, soy crisps (soy protein isolate, rice flour, calcium carbonate), water, peanuts, canola oil, peanut flour, natural flavors, tricalcium phosphate, soya lecithin, salt. Vitamins and Minerals: ascorbic acid, d-alpha tocopherol, niacinamide, zinc oxide, vitamin A palmitate, electrolytic iron, calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, copper gluconate, riboflavin, thiamin mononitrate, folic acid, biotin, potassium iodide, vitamin B12. Contains milk, peanuts and soy.

I don't think I've ever seen food in bar form which was clean--unless they were homemade.
