Two chia pudding recipes from SP member SPARKLERS30 that sound pretty good - don't know the exact GI, but the ingredients are low.

Favall, that is great to hear and a reminder to me....I think for my snack today I'll have yogurt and 1 tablespoon of each as my workout routine doesn't allow me the benefit of extra food emoticon

new report - I've been eating the 2 TBS each of chia seeds and ground flax meal with the greek yogurt every afternoon for more than a month. I wanted to report that it is very filling and keeps me from getting hungry for about 3-4 hours. Lasts me through the 2 hour afternoon workouts and right up to dinner. I am surprised how affective this food choice has been for me.

I've just met with my new doctor (MD + Nutritionist + Comprehensive Natural Medicine). She's "perscribed" me to have 2 Tbs daily of chia seeds and 2 Tbs daily of flaxseed meal. I've added both to my SP tracker favorites.

Yes, these are great..I have been adding them to the corn meal muffins (med GI) and it is like poppy seeds, my husband loves them.

Suppose to be better than flax seed.

My sister said that she has been mixing chia seeds in with her oatmeal and protein powder concoction. It provides slow carbs, fiber, and plenty of protein. I'm going to try it tomorrow.

Hi Sunflower, ya I just bought another bag, they are small like poppy seeds..if you soak a tablespoon in say 1/4 or 1/2 cup of juice, they get jellied a little...I like eating it that way as well. So girls I missed this post!

I hope you found some! I love them. They are a staple for me too! I put them in my shake. I really like them on other food items too. They add a crunch. emoticon

I think I will try to hunt some Chia seeds down this weekend! Not sure where....we dont have a "real" health food store. Just healthy sections in the grocery store.
Cant wait to try in salads n stuff- I am envisioning "sunflower" seeds.

True courage takes place when you think you cant try one more time....and you do it anyway.

Chia and hemp seeds are staple items for me. I add them to toasted Ezekiel bread, cottage cheese, eggs salads, chili. They are a complete protein.

I already have, I already am because of Jesus!!!

Tracy I'm sure the Chia Seeds for a vegan really helps with the protein and some healthy fat!

My next bag I'll have to get the whole seed, seems I have bought the milled one...

Chia seeds are great. You can get them at the health food store. They don't swell up so much that it would make your stomach swell, if just fills you up! They make drinks I have seen for sale too, at the health food store, they are like fruit juice with the seeds in them, and the seeds taste kinda, slippery and chewy, I really like them. It's great fiber. I imagine you can do all kinds of things with them. Like on cottage cheese it would just add some crunch. Nice!!! emoticon

I put them in a shake I have daily, it is Almond milk, frozen, bagged fruit, berries, etc., stevia, chia seeds and a little bit of whey powder. I have been practicing being a vegetarian, however, recently have decided to become a pescitarian. Should be great, except for I might have a problem during Thanksgiving, because I love Turkey on Thanksgiving. I'll cross that bridge when I get there!

Everyone, have a great and wonderfully, beautiful day!!!

chia seeds in blender drinks or sprinkled on salads or put in oatmeal....

Thanks so much Val, ya, I had my first tablespoon yesterday...a little dry in my cottage cheese, but I plan to maybe have a tablespoon in some water...sure is like metamicl.

I bet the chia seeds in it's gel form will help keep my IBS-C under control :)

Even though I use Magnesium and Vitamin D combo which has helped in that area a lot already..things doctors don't tell you..they rather push the drugs on you..

Excellent article!! I've heard of them, but have never tried them, but they sound like a great appetite-suppressant.

Re the swelling when mixed with water, it sounds similar to Metamucil.

And re "shrinking" the stomach, I always used to think that's what happened when we ate less, but contrary to popular opinion the stomach does not shrink. "Shrinking the stomach" is more an expression that an actuality. Normally it's the size of a fist, but when we eat more it can expand to almost as large as a gallon jug - yuck! - which would account for that bloated feeling we get when we overeat. But the stomach returns to its original size when the food passes into the intestines. When we eat less regularly, our appetite shrinks, but not our stomach. Bariatric surgery is really the only thing that will permanently make the stomach smaller. (See women.webmd.com/pharmacist-11/stomac

problems
)

Re the chia pets, my grandkids have two in the basement not opened yet, maybe I should abscond with them for their nutritional value, but I can hear the kids screaming about me eating their pets if they found out LOL!! All kidding aside, those chia seeds are not recommended for human consumption as the seeds sold as supplements or foodstuff meet stricter standards than the ones sold along with the terra-cotta animal planters.
