This morning was the first time I went to the Y with my husband in a couple of years. 6:30 is a little early for me, but I was up for it today. Did about 20 minutes on the treadmill and 20 minutes on the recumbent bike.

I'm home from Michigan and aching all over from a wonderful, though strenuous, week of caring for and playing with my toddler grandson. So I started today with a 30 minute walk with my husband. It is a spectacular Fall day here in Kentucky, and it was a pleasure to walk and catch up with him after a week apart.

Walking. Tried going back to Curves a couple of days ago, and it aggravated my back. I was recently diagnosed with degenerative arthritis of the spine, and I think I may have to make some changes to my exercise activity so that I don't make it worse. Gotta find a "new balance".... Just when you think you have things figured out, things change.

Yesterday I walked my 5k and since I decided to participate in a team challenge of Couch to 5k challenge I ran 10 times during my walk. Today I am doing my Bikini Workout as my alternate. This program is working out well for me.

I am doing the Bikini Workouts and I really enjoy how I am feeling so much stronger since I started doing them. I have 5lb. dumbells that I use as well as a Dyna Band that I use for my resistance training. Doing lots of crunches every day also.

From our house to the main highway is 5k so today because it was a nice enough day I decided to try, for the first time which I thought would be a different challenge, to walk to the highway and back to see how my body would react to the outside walking conditions. About 1/3 of the way I started feeling my baby toe on my left foot complaining it didn't have enough room and was rubbing the toe next to it. At about the second third of the walk my right hip mentioned it had a kink and once I noticed that the rest of the body wanted to tell me their woes also. It took me 40 min. to walk and the wind was a bit too cool for my comfort level but other than being a little discomforted it was an enjoyable experience. I definitely could see myself doing this again on a warmer day when there was no cool wind. This is just the first small step to finding the person I once was and loving myself again because I can do anything I put my mind to.

Walked 30 min on treadmill doing the weighloss program which varies the speed. 4 is my max walk/jogging speed. Struggled with the last 10 min of that because I have been away from it for so long. Did a lot of gasp..ing LOL.

My foot is now healed and today I grocery shopped from 11 am. - 3 pm. (-40 min travel time and 20 min standing in line ups). I'm back able to walk outside again once it warms up a bit more and I have been using my treadmill on the weighloss program, when the weather is too cool for me.

Good morning all...since I last posted here I sprained a tendon on my right foot between the ball and the toes. This has meant I have had to take the week to rest up my foot staying off of it as much as possible. It's feeling better today and so I'm going to give my foot a trial walk on my treadmill as it is easier on my feet than walking outside. Weather is too much snow on the sidewalks to go walking outside anyways. Wish me luck that my tendon doesn't shootout any more nasty sensations again. I'll keep you updated on how I did later on today.

Wow! I've just went back through these posts. It's great to see all the different kinds of activities we fibro folks are able to do. Walking, whether by tread mill, out in the sunshine, on the beach, in the woods, or indoors with Leslie Sansone, seems to be the number one exercise. But our other exercises are quite varied... they include yoga, belly dancing, aquatics, Pilates, resistance machines (Curves), gardening, stretching, and Tai Chi. A number of us are even preparing to participate in 5K walks/runs!

Cheers to all of us!!! Keep sharing your daily achievements... You never who you will motivate!

I have a treadmill with a P2 setting which is a weight loss program that varies the speed of the machine. Today I accidently pressed the P2 button instead of the P1 which allows me to decide for myself the speed. I decided to see how well I would be able to do it. I lasted to speed 5. My normal speed is 3.5 and after one min. I was gasping and had to stop the machine. I then carried on with my regular routine but I decided also that I would continue to start every workout on P2 until I was able to stay on that program for 30 min. I will still do my regular 30 min. 3.5 speed until such time as I feel it becomes too slow. This is all in an effort to get myself ready to run my first 5K marathon.

A week of doing absolutely nothing has left me stiff and achy. Back to the drawing board this morning, with about 15 minutes of Randi Botnick's Gentle Stretch Yoga (see "Yoga Resources?" post under General Team Discussion Forum). Not much, but a start toward getting me out of a rut.

My yoga instructor held a 2-hour yoga class on Saturday to "wring out 2013" and to "open" for 2014. It was great. But even though I was able to keep up, I am still hurting today... not fibro pain, just post-exercise, achy muscles. Some gentle stretching today should get me feeling better... Thank you, Jen (Bittercat), for your concern. Taking care of an elderly parent is quite a challenge especially when dealing with my own health issues. It's important to remember to take care of myself so I don't end up exhausted and in a flare.

I would like to caution you, Jen, about aerobics and jumping rope. Most information I have read regarding exercise for fibro patients strongly discourages any exercises involving jumping. Yoga, stretching, walking, and even some strength training are all more beneficial and less stressful on our bodies. I wish you well.

Cathy, best wishes for you with your mom. My family is starting to face similar questions about our mom. For now, she lives alone, but most of us are an hour or more away. I go every weekend to help her out, which is hard on me with the fibro.

Anyway, sorry to be off topic.

Last exercise I did was walking. Thursday morning, my community is having an aerobics class/food drive. The price to attend is one or two canned food items. I'm seriously thinking about going.

It's hard for me to exercise lately. For the past month (at least), I've been flaring really badly. Lots of pain. It's off and on, but it's frequent enough to be disruptive. I also have a jumprope at home and have been thinking about starting to use that and starting to do some sit ups.

I WANT to be motivated to exercise, but the pain makes it SO hard.

Unfortunately the only exercise I have been able to get over the past three weeks is about 20 minutes of yoga around 2am when I wake up and can't go back to sleep. My days have been spent helping my 94-year-old mom transition from her home in MI to an apt near me in KY. It's been rough.

November began with 5 minutes each on seated elliptical and manual treadmill
Experiencing some chest tightness with treadmill - will check in with Dr if that continues
Today did five on treadmill with similar chest tightness like old intercostal stuff of fibro but also careful bout heart questions - told DH and he is OK with waiting it out
7 minutes on seated elliptical ...

So have met my goal of "getting started"

Walking - Have put the pedometer back on and want to be accountable for it - also want to set some goals involving it but not sure how to translate my goal of walking 5-K next spring into a training program that will fit my level of arthritis and fibro... any suggestions?

I know that regular household walking gets me about 2500 to 3000 steps per day.nd that I do not plan to exercise and Sundays.

The temp. gauge said 40* so I put on a hoodie and tried to go for an outdoor walk today. Then I got out from behind our woods. OMgoodness!! That SW wind is bitter!!! I finished walking our 1/4 mile gravel lane to the mailbox and back and then came in and did a 1 mile walk with the dvd to warm back up.

Thighs are still wanting to cramp up, so I've been doing a few yoga stretches as well. I may need to get out the heating pad once son and I sit down this afternoon to do Alg 2 and Chemistry or I'll stiffen up.

After a week of rest because of a virus, I got a 1/2 mile walk done on Tues, 1 mile on Wed, and 1 mile with the 2 min. boost on Thursday all indoors to a dvd. A nasty headache sidelined me Friday tho.

I did a lot of walking and now my tailbone is hurting. Time to see the chiropractor since my sacroiliac joint has popped out of place again. I really wish this would stop happening!

i use to did aquatic, i cannot swim and one day i went under , after that i could not
\go anymore was too scar if somebody touch me or anything i would scream from bein
scare

So i quit but it was one of the best exercise for me
you aee i could not get up by myself 2 people had to pull me up

yoga strengthening routine.

I can't do Sun Salutations (all the up down up down up down makes me sick-feeling and sends my blood pressure up) so I have found a few dvds with routines that don't do them. Surprisingly, I found this dvd at Aldi. LOL

when i get home after shopping i hav e a hard time to put my groceries away
i only-put away what need to go in the freezer , and then i go to lay down
i am exausted and fall asleep
A couple hours after i wake up and then i put the rest of my groceries away

I use to do the gazelle also but last time i try i got such a bad flare up i did notg do exercise since that , i was thinking to start doing it again maybe 5 minute at a time,i could do igt
to start for 30 mins in all,
i will start with that cause for strengh exercise right now i have a very bad arm every time i more it it make me yell so i have to wait for that for at lease another month].
\\\\\\\nothing seem to take the pain away, i had a knee replacement a year ago so i have to take it easy

\\\\\\\\\hot water help a lot ,
