It went really well! It was tough; first time I've had to modify a bit. I am pleased to report that I'm not nearly as out of shape as I thought; nowhere near what I was, but still have some flexibility and stamina left. I can't wait to do it again tonight!

Definitely! My husban has agreed to do them with me. Bless his heart, he can only get about halfway through the diamond dozen, but he's trying really hard, and his second time he did better than he did the first time. I usually do it with him, then do my own workout next. It's good to get a form reminder each time anyway!

Hi Roadslead2fit, Welcome to the DDPYOGA Team. You are setting a doable goal. Focus on the exercise and then add in the eating ... slowly is good. I will be cheering for you. Let us know how you are getting on.

I got my DVDs a couple of days ago and have gone through the DD twice last week.

I am starting on the Beginner workout plan tomorrow and my goals right now are to stick with the workouts as they are laid out, and to lose 5lbs in the next 4 weeks.

I will start incorporating some of the eating plan, but probably very slowly. I have the most problems with my eating (and sticking to a set workout plan) so I am just going to take it slowly and not over do anything.

Hi Angela - Welcome to this team. Week three - wow! You are doing great. I am doing a happy dance for you. Have you noticed a change in your flexibility? How about strength? You may also want to check out our monthly challenge which focuses on arms and abs - it isn't too late to start. .

Do you have a heart monitor or are you judging your heart rate by other methods, such as the ability to speak? Just doing the moves is beneficial - it becomes a strength workout. However, it is helpful to get both strength and cardio completed at once!!! I am rooting for you. Hugs

I am on week 3 of DDP Yoga and just noticed spark had a team, so I just had to join. I am loving DDP Yoga. Only thing I am having trouble with is getting my heart rate to stay up. Of course usually my kids do it with me and they can be a little distracting. lol

SweetCrystal200 and Yvonne2001, thank you so much! I really appreciate these tips. They will help me out. Tomorrow is Energy day, and I will definitely use the suggestions to do the pushups on the wall!

(The tips and support from people using this program is unbelievable.)

Hi SAMORI1
The wrist pain is quite normal. My wrists hurt very badly the first week, but have gotten stronger over time. On doing the broken table, do the modified version with both hands down and eventually work your one hand out farther and farther. Then lift up for a couple of seconds and put it back down. Keep at that until you can keep it lifted through out the entire exercise. Also, flip those wrists! And if you can only do the exercise for a short time, that is fine. You will continually get stronger and stronger and will be able to do the exercise longer and longer.

Yvonne makes a great point about wall pushups. Start with what you can do physically and slowly work to improve yourself. That is what is great about this program. You can literally start any physical level and get stronger and improve.

Thank you for your wonderful welcome back. I also did energy today ... I think it is my favourite - quick and easy but effective.

I also completed the April 1st Arms and Abs exercise challenge. I did it first thing once I was out of bed! A great way to wake up.

Welcome to our team, so glad to have you join us. Crystal is right on - the Diamond Dozen is to get you ready for the next level when you put the poses into a yoga routine. It makes sure you have the form correct and know what to do. However, when you do it by yourself, apart from the DVD, I do every move twice. The Diamond Dozen comes in printed form and when I travel I take it with me and do them. They are perfect to do in your bedroom at a hotel or friend's home and you won't be bothering anyone but still getting yoga exercise. I will be rooting for you.

emoticon SAMORRI1 - When I started my wrists really hurt a lot but now that I have been doing this for many months I notice they have become stronger and don't hurt during or after exercise. I think the trick is to do each exercise for as long as you can, take a break, flip your wrists, then go back and continue to finish each segment. If you need to take another break, do so. One of the wonderful things about this yoga program is to make it your own knowing that you will get stronger. I will be rooting for you. Don't give up. As for a time period when it will become less painful it depends on your body and your consistency. Be patient with yourself and you will improve as you grow stronger. Hugs.

Another idea is to modify the positions. For example, instead of doing full pushups on the floor, try doing wall pushups, then graduate to knee pushups, and then full floor pushups. This will help build up your wrist muscles without putting so much strain on them. Another idea might be to wear wrist supports while doing the exercises that cause pain on your wrists..

Hi there! I'm new to SparkPeople and DDP Yoga. Did my first Diamond Dozen last week and today I did Diamond Dozen and Energy! Felt great and definitly gave me energy for my day :-). I am worried about a few of the moves and my wrists though... I've always avoided push-ups and moves like broken table because they hurt my wrists so much. Is this normal for beginners? And when will it be less painful?

Thanks!
~Sara

Hi Yvonne! We've missed you on the threads! Welcome back!

Rohbean, welcome!! We are very happy to have you part of the team. The Diamond Dozen is used to teach the basic core moves of the program. When doing these really focus on how you should be breathing and keeping your muscles taught. These moves are repeated throughout the program, so it's important to pay attention to your form and movements so you can get the most out of this program.

Today was Energy for me. I've done this one so many times, I just about have it memorized :) Tomorrow is a DDP rest day but I'll be doing the Arms & Abs April challenge. Have a great day everyone!

I just started the program and did my first workout this morning. I'm a little confused by the Diamond Dozen. (I followed along with the DVD instructions today, but would like to do them on my own once I learn them properly.)

Are you supposed to do each move in the Diamond Dozen one time or more than once?

Hi Spunky 420! Welcome to the group! Congrats on your weight loss of 3 pounds, that's awesome!!

The most important things I can tell you is to stay consistent. The more you use the program, the better you will feel. Also, breathing is key too. Don't hold your breath!! :)

Keep us posted on your progress!!

Hi Yvonne! Way to go on keeping up with your workouts while you were away! This week has been good. I've been getting more and more flexible and less back pain! Woohoo!

As for gluten free, I like quick and easy, grab an go. I am not a good cook nor do I like too. :) I was just wondering if anyone had any favorites that they come back to time and time again.

Glad you are doing well Yvonne! Have a great day!

emoticon Crystal. I just returned home after being away - All I did was take the Diamond Dozen Sheet with me and did that for the two weeks I was away. So I am starting easy with Energy today. Then I will go on to Fat Busters.

What kind of gluten free/dairy free recipes are you looking for? Most proteins are gluten free: meat/chicken/fish. However, check the label because sausages and bacon are notorious for adding gluten. Also watch out for butterball poultry and some roasts. Of course nothing breaded that is pre-made will be gluten free. For that you will need to make your own breading from gluten free bread. When I entertain my dairy free friends I substitute coconut milk for the dairy milk and the end product is delicious. There is a gluten free margarine put out by Becel or you can use pure organic coconut oil (which comes as a solid so keep it out of the fridge). Also, fresh veggies and fruits are gluten free. Nuts and seeds are ok. Watch out for dried fruit - some companies add gluten to keep the fruit from sticking together. Usually the cheaper ones. So the only things you really need to watch are: breads, cereals, and baked goods like cookies and cakes. There is a knack to baking with gluten free flours. You will need xanthum gum and a mixture of gluten free flours make the best product. If you let me know exactly what you want a recipe for I will do my best to help out. Otherwise on the DDPYOGA website they have some recipes.

How is everyone doing? We are already at the end of our first week in February! Spring will be here before we know it, and then soon it will be summer! I' working on week 3 this week and am loving it. I can already feel my flexibility increase in some of the stretches. I've officially cut out diary and now need to slowly work on the gluten.

Anybody have any quick and easy recipes that are dairy/gluten free? I hate cooking!! :)

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Yvonne! You can still post your workouts here. You don't have to go back a phase just to chat with us:) All are welcome and the more communication is better!

I did Energy today and am really enjoying it. I'm starting to get into the habit of waking early and getting up and exercising. I still have that voice telling me to go back to bed, but it keeps getting quieter and quieter :)

Happy February and Friday all and get ready for the SparkPoints Challenge starting today!

emoticon Run Girl - Woo Hooo!!!! Well done on the first set of exercises. No, I don't think it is all in your head. I noticed that I had pain relief and more flexibility the first week. This program is very well planned to help you gain strength so you can move on to the next level. Had to smile regarding your reason for trying out this program .... it is very similar to mine - hip and knee pain. Keep going you will be glad you did. I am rooting for you.

Got my dvds yesterday. Did diamond dozen and energy last night. I liked it. It was different. My arms/upper back are sore today a bit. My hip also feels better today. (I have chronic hip pain which is one of the main reasons this program sparked my interest in the first placeI I am not sure if it is in my head or if the dvds really helped me loosen it up. I do not feel like I did that much hip exercise yesterday though on those 2 workouts so who knows? I will take it. :)

emoticon Hi RSW - welcome aboard the Team! I am delighted to have you aboard! It is great to have an active team ... all of us getting fit and healthy. I see from your sparks page that you enjoy doing daily pushups. You may want to check out Sparky's challenge this month and join. The idea is: 10 second plank, 10 seconds 1/2 way down, 10 second up, then 10 second all the way to the floor. I haven't mastered this yet!!! But getting a bit closer.

emoticon Chrystal, so glad you are feeling better! I am doing a happy dance for you. emoticon getting back on track and into the second week of exercises!

Hi everyone! I'm seeing some new faces here today! Welcome!! I love seeing our team grow and become more active! Yesterday started week 2 for me. I started over again as I missed quite a few workouts with my ill days. The one thing that I really notice on the days that I workout is my attitude. I'm so much more happier when I workout.

RSW... I log it as regular yoga or stretching. It doesn't give you a lot of calorie burn however. Are you using a heart rate monitor? If so, you put in directly how many calories you burn or you can just pick an exercise that burns the amount of calories that you burned. One thing that I'm slowly coming to realize is that we don't have to be perfect at this..mistakes are okay :) Welcome aboard!!

MOMTORISSA and RUNGIRL27 welcome aboard as well and congrats on getting started on your journey with DDP Yoga! I think you will agree soon enough that this is an amazing program and we will all benefit greatly from it!

Hi everyone! I am excited to get under way with my new DDP Yoga dvds, and I was super stoked to see this group on Sparkpeople (I have FALLEN IN LOVE with this site in the past month).

Today I did my first DDP Yoga workout and went through the introduction to the Diamond Dozen. My question, though, is how does everyone log the DDP Yoga minutes on the SP Fitness Tracker? I'm not really sure what to put it down as?

Thanks!

emoticon Hi Amy and Rungirl, so glad to see that you both are planning to join us with one of the most amazing exercise programs I have found so far. You will be amazed at your progress! Also, Rungirl, the exercises can be modified until you are able to do some of the positions. Sparky, is one of our resource people, and if you have any questions I am sure he will be willing to give you some help in the modifications.

I will be rooting for both of you. This program is very exciting ... so do your best and keep at it. You will improve. Hugs.

emoticon Chrystal. I am relieved to read you are feeling better and now getting down to the business of regular DDPYOGA. It is so encouraging to have others join in this journey and share our successes.

It's great to see some action here :) Welcome Metis457_79 and I am so excited for you!! It's inspiring to hear the wonderful things that DDP can do for us and I know you will see some great results!

Yvonne, thank you so much for the get well wishes and great job on sticking to your workouts! I am feeling much better and got 2 out of the 3 workouts in this week. I've set some pretty big goals for myself this year, but my first one is to complete the first 13 weeks and then move on from there. I look forward to seeing you guys progress!!

emoticon METIS457_79! I am doing a little happy dance for you.

Great job on planning when to do the DDPYOGA. I find that by scheduling it, I do it. I am looking forward to hearing how you are doing as you progress. The progress you have made so far is wonderful. I will be cheering for you.

I did the first workout earlier this week and really liked it. My back/shoulder stopped hurting for the first time in 2 years!! I ran out of time and energy for it yesterday (I decided on a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday routine), but am definitely planning to do it tomorrow.

Glad I found this group! Can't wait to do the video again.

emoticon Hi Chrystal - how are you doing? Did your illness return? I know that many of the folks around here are ill ... seem to get better ... then it hits again. Are you able to get any of the routines in? I am rooting for you.

emoticon Crystal - you are on your way! Woo Hoo!!! You really need those rest days that are part of the program. Oddly enough, by following the prescribed program you will find that you make faster progress than trying to go faster. I think it gives your body time to recover and get stronger.

I do alternative exercise during the 'off' days. You may find walking, biking, trampolining, swimming, or any cardio exercises just the thing to fill in the gaps. Or, of course, you can just relax!

Happy Holidays and may this year find us all healthier and more flexible than ever. I am cheering for you.

Today was Day 1 Diamond Dozen for me as I decided to start from the beginning. It took all I could to get out of bed but it's so worth it in the end! Have a great day everyone!
