That is so exciting about your pants sizes, Ram!

Thank you, Hen, for your encouragement.

One of the amazing things about my DH beginning and completing the VD is that he didn't have to lose any weight at all! That's also the frustrating piece because it's not about what he can see that needs changing. It's his digestive distress, mood, and energy, which is a more ethereal experience for him - and for anyone!

Yeah, I've bought about 6-8 pairs of jeans the next size smaller, and CAN WEAR THEM NOW!
It's freaking awesome to get some extra pounds off my gut.

Hey Kelly,

Not knowing how much weight (if any) your husband has to lose, perhaps a special pair of jeans or cross trainers might be a good mini goal for him... Maybe he's overwhelmed with too big of a goal... I find that, sometimes setting mini goals (non food related) are a great incentive, as they're more easily obtainable.

Yeah, sugar is another food I avoid like the plague... Any simple carb, as far as that goes... That to me, is like an alcoholic taking that one drink... It sets me up to fail or struggle, at best, and it simply isn't worth it... No amount of sugar can make me feel as good as fitting into my new skinny jeans!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Stay strong... You CAN do it!!! emoticon

Six months! That's great!

The only clear intolerance I found was soy. I retain water and get cranky. Not fun for anyone! Sugar is another bad one for me, but I already knew that. My husband found that he had mild problems with dairy and eggs.

That means that our diet stays close to Cycle 1. It is difficult to stay strong because my husband no longer has a clear goal with an end point so he wants to indulge... often. New goals would be good for him like it has been for me so far (with the exercise). I can't make him do it, though. Grrr!

I will definitely let you know about the exercise program.

Congratulations to both Ram and Kelly!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Six months for me, and I'm absolutely loving the new lifestyle and how I feel. emoticon

It's great to hear from you Kelly!!! Sounds like you're doing very well, and have a handle on the new lifestyle... Did you find any food sensitivities during cycle 2??? My biggest problem food turned out to be dairy... emoticon Really bummed me out, cause I LOVE dairy... Not milk drinking type dairy, but all the cheeses and suchlike.

Please keep me posted on your experience with "Sleeveless & Sexy"... I've been toying with the idea of trying it.

Congrats, Ram, on making it to cycle 2!

This is day 58 for me. I just finished Cycle 2. If you figure out the numbers, that's actually an extra week. I went back to cycle 1 for a week in the middle of the second cycle because I felt a bit overwhelmed with reintroducing new foods.

To keep me motivated and start a good workout program, I started JJ's Sleeveless and Sexy in 6 weeks program. I'm sore but feeling good with lots of energy to get through my workouts!

Thanks! I might try adding a couple of my own "mixtures" to the list. This is day 22 for me, and I'm thinking the foods that I've excluded from eating might not be the greatest stuff to eat anyway...
It pretty much leaves me with fresh fruits and veggies, and lean meats. Almost sounds like the foods I should have been eating all along... Strange world we live in. emoticon
It's funny, but going to the grocery store now, I hit the "live" food area in the front of the store, and then the meat coolers, and EVERYTHING else looks so much like JUNK. The whole center isles are full of processed crap...
Like seeing the food marketing industry without blinders on?
Very strange, indeed.
But I like it.

Golly, Ram, I had no idea you were trying this, with the benefit of the book!!! I highly recommend you get the book... It'll make following this new lifestyle SOooooooooo much easier!!! In the meantime, this hotlink may help... I haven't checked it out completely yet, so if you have a question on a particular recipe, just ask, and I'll help if I can.

Yeah, I'm kinda winging it without much info, or the book...
I look at all the foods I've pulled out, and hard to introduce select choices without getting more than one. That's a problem. Sugar + gluten...eggs + gluten, peanuts + sugar, etc...
Might try eggs first, just for a few days and re-evaluate.
What do you think?

Now the really fun part starts!!! Discovering which of the 7 Hi Fi, are foods that don't play nice with your body, and sabotage your weight loss efforts... This was the most enlightening, not to mention liberating cycle of the whole program for me!!! Enjoy it!!!

Ram ~ I bet your wife will be more understanding, with your new lifestyle, when she sees how much better you look and feel... Not to mention, how much better you'll feel about yourself... That's a big thing for me... I have much more confidence in myself.

Congratulations on your pants getting looser!!! emoticon YEA!!! Yes, the losing of the joint pain was a biggie for me too!!! emoticon

I went by the book, in Cycle 2, (the Reintroduction cycle). Week 1, I tested Soy, week 2 was Gluten, 3 was Eggs, and week 4 I tested Dairy... It was exciting to see how my body reacted to the various foods... I haven't really changed or added all that much, now that I'm in Cycle 3... I do have eggs or dairy, from time to time, but the rest of the Hi Fi, I've pretty much given up... That's not to say that I never eat the others, cause I do - when, for instance, we go out to eat, say Mexican - but those are rare and special occasions.

I'm on day 12 and down 10lbs. Pretty cool, but having issues with wife over not eating the same stuff for diner with each other. My choices are something she'd never handle as far as loads of veggies and giving up sugar and gluten products...

Hen: What foods did you return to your diet after the phase 1 elimination period? I'd really miss breads and pasta, but if they make me sick and fatter, maybe not so much.

Pants are starting to get more loose. Knee joints seem to be less painful. Very cool.

I'm on day 7 and I too am not sure what I've gotten into. I have only lost 2.5 lbs in 7 days, I'm still tired, get headaches when I totally rid myself of caffeine, and I have a crabby tummy during the night because it's hungry. Any help or thoughts on any of this? I am determined to make it to day 21 to see if things change but it's certainly frustrating at this point.

I'm on day 9. Not feeling anything that sells me on this way of eating. Don't feel any different. Guess I'm not allergic to any of these foods. I've only lost 4 lbs in 9 days. Still get headaches, still feel bloated, still feel tired. And I'm hungry. Trying to stick to one snack a day (raw nuts), but my stomach is always growling by 8 pm.

Only on day 3 of the Virgin Life, I gained 3 lbs initially which is now off, my stomach problems are still a rumbling. Lots of uncomfortable gas/bloating, belching, irregularity...think my body is still adjusting to the increased fiber. I was averaging 20 gms of fiber before, I'm up to 30 gms a day now..hoping to reach 50 by week 2. This is just the beginning...I've been told to do an elimination diet multiple times and never had the will power to complete it..I'm hoping to stay strong for the full 21 days...I have a bday party to go to tomorrow so that won't be easy :/

Tomorrow I will be starting week number 5. Still drinking two shakes a day and feeling pretty good. I admit I went to the movie today and ate some jolly ranchers...but the one infraction I had with soy about ten days ago was awful....I was miserable. It taught me to READ Labels carefully.!! Hoping to make my goal weight by the end of the month as I also will kick my running and weight training up a notch.

My hubby and I started this on Dec. 24, 2012; we never cheated once during the 21 day elimination. We only tested gluten, dairy, and eggs, and I learned that gluten and dairy are not good for me. I had my first real cheat meal on Friday - we stopped for dinner at Red Robin. I had a burger in a lettuce wrap with a side salad. The burger had cheese on it (I knew that but ordered it with anyway). If I'd just eaten that, I would have been fine, but the give you those danged baskets of steak fries! It was just one meal and we'd both been really good up to then, so I don't feel too bad. I did allow myself some dairy over the weekend (Greek yogurt and sharp cheddar) and I'm paying for it today - lots of aches and pains!

My brother and his wife started the 1st phase yesterday - I'm hoping they do as well on it as we did!

I started on Jan 2. I have intolerances to eggs, dairy, and wheat. I'm down 16 lbs. I don't have the cravings either! I sneak in some dark chocolate (no more than 5 or 6 grams of sugar per serving) I don't really know why, I should journal instead.

I am on Day 9. Survived the weekend which meant 2 restaurants. Both times chose the salad bar and focused on adding lots of veggies. No cheese or creamy dressing :). (Also packed an apple and a bag of almonds to have in case.) I'm down about 7 pounds and feeling good. Now my goal is to start adding in some exercise.

I'm on day 25. My daughter and I introduced eggs first, we've had 2 a day for three days. I've gained 1 pound. I don't feel so great today. I think I
'll skip eggs today. Next week we'll probably try dairy or soy.

That is great! I think because the plan focuses on keeping your blood sugar stable you don't feel the need to snack. I had a few urges, but nothing like when I used to eat the bad 7.. Especially sugar... I was a sugar addict. Its great to be free of food and really eat for nutrition and healing.

Day 14 still going strong. When I come home from work I am hungry but I drink some water and eat some walnuts and I'm fine. I think I am just thirsty so I am going to try to increase my water I was drinking 64oz but I think I need more.

Day 16 for me! no real cravings the whole time. Haven't craved sugar. I think it also helps as I didn't have any of it sitting around the house.

Day 14 just a few unknown slips

I did not know chicken flavoring had sugar. There are so many hidden ingredients. Salsa has wheat, soy, milk why???

Still I am feeling great having very few cravings.
