Dinner: Chicken
Instead of: Chicken stir-fry
Eat this: Tandoori chicken

The body benefit: Besides skipping the sodium-filled soy sauce, tandoori's curry is a great source of the antioxidant curcumin, which, according to research from Tufts University, inhibits the formation of fat tissue.

Lunch: Bread
Instead of: White hamburger bun
Eat this: Whole-wheat hamburger bun

The body benefit: While they both come in at about 150 calories per serving, a whole-grain bun has several added benefits. Compare Arnold's 100% Whole Wheat Sandwich Buns with their White Hamburger Rolls, for instance: the wheat version contains three extra grams of both protein and fiber, which each help you feel fuller for longer. Plus, research shows that consuming whole grains as opposed to refined can help prevent inflammation and may even help your body burn more fat.

Lunch: Soup
Instead of: Tomato-basil soup
Eat this: Broth-based minestrone

The body benefit: Don't let the word "tomato" fool you. It's so thick because it's full of heavy cream, and a serving can set you back nearly 500 calories. Stick with broth-based soups with chunks of vegetables you can actually sink your teeth into, like this tomato soup recipe, which is just 129 calories per serving.

Breakfast: Granola
Instead of: Granola
Eat this: Oatmeal

The body benefit: A half-cup cooked serving of Quaker Steel Cut Oats contains just 150 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, and 1 gram of sugar. Sprinkling 10 fresh blueberries onto your oatmeal adds natural sweetness for just 8 calories. Meanwhile, a half-cup of Quaker's Apple, Cranberry, & Almond Granola clocks in at 200 calories, 5 grams of fat, and a whopping 13 grams of sugar—and that's before you add any milk.

I use Trader Joe's Fat Free Feta crumbles instead of full-fat feta in salads and veggie smoothies for extra protein and flavor without the fat!

There are many good suggestions here. I have heard of most of them. I am puzzled by the cake mix and soda though? I'm definitely going to do the spaghetti squash though!!!

I also use spaghetti squash in place of noodles. My granddaughter also loves it, which irritates her mom to no end! (She hates it!) Oh, well! When she was little, I never served any kind of squash, so she thinks it must be awful now. She doesn't know what she's missing!:)
Greek yogurt is yummy in place of sour cream in homemade ranch salad dressing, too.

I love all the ideas you've all posted, which I will be adding into my daily meal preps. I grew some spaghetti squash last year, but gave it to another family who was tending my garden while we were on vacation.

Not sure if this applies to the post but I like to use my steamer for doing most veggies: fresh or frozen to keep the nutrients and a more vibrant color. I also like using a Misto sprayer with olive oil when having to use a skillet. I've been slowly adding more healthy options into meals without the guys really knowing with great results. I found a recipe on SP for easy cobbler that uses a cake mix and 1 can of soda, will be giving it a shot and maybe picking up some lite Cool Whip. Anyone use a Yonana? I've got one and its a great way to use over ripe bananas. If I am banana- out I will freeze the ripe banana then it can be used with the Yonana by itself or with other ingredients: frozen berries or fruits, peanut butter, etc... The frozen banana comes out like a thick frozen yogurt and I sometimes add just a dribble of Hershey's chocolate, strawberry, or caramel syrup to it. My son, love it.

I like the idea of replacing some or all of the pasta with spaghetti squash. I remember having spaghetti squash at a friend's house years ago, but haven't actually cooked it myself. I might have to plant some in my garden! emoticon

Wise choices each day will get me where I want to be.

Use a low fat cheese slice to creamy soups made with almond milk for a creamy, cheesy taste

Opting for leaner cuts of meats than the recipe calls for.

I've found that I like almond milk better than dairy milk - fewer calories, more calcium, and it tastes better!

Dressing for your salad (if you like creamy) can be made with low-fat sour cream or Greek yogurt rather than all of the mayo...I only use 1/4 of the amount of mayo! I use low-fat because it has more taste while reducing calories and it saves all of the chemicals that you get when buying fat-free dressing!

use fat-free Greek yogurt-any flavor-on your morning cereal instead of the usual milk-you get 2x the protein and a rich tasting breakfast that is really creamy. Add what ever fruit you like to get a fruit serving, as well.

Use a box of cake mix with one can of diet drink. Chocolate with diet cola, spice with diet sprite, the skys the limit. You only need to count the mix ingredients for calories.

Use an immersion blender to thicken soups rather than adding additional starches!
