I'll have to check that cereal out. I usually have either an egg or shreddies with a milk protien drink called Milk to Go Sport. The milk contains extra protien but I still don't seem to be getting enough protien even with my checking out the labels and buying foods that have higher protien in them.

The last couple of days I discovered I am not meeting the required daily protien amount I have been so focused on making foods with vegetables and beans and rice and I thought the beans and rice would make enough protien. I'm only tracking half the amount as when I was eating a meat with every meal. Anyone have any suggestions how I can fix this problem.

We went shopping last Friday which was a mistake because it was a payday Friday and the stores were packed. I didn't get half of what I needed so the following Monday we went back again to get what I couldn't find or forgot the previous shop. We ended up doubling what we usually spent because we did more impulse buying. Monday there were more fresh fruits and vegetables since it was the beginning of the month and food trucks had arrived that Sunday. My poor husband is afraid I over did the fruit and it will spoil before I get it eaten. Not to worry I told him, I can live on just fruit if I had my choice. He's not a big fruit eater. Lost of fresh vegetables and fruit is more costly than frozen. I had really been missing the freshness of spring fruits which still are not on sale prices here yet, but I splurged because I felt I needed them to help me through my upcomming week. The flowers should be popping up but they can't because it won't quit snowing this year. The weather is hard on my health and I have to fight depression with healthy fruits and vegetables.

Just completed week four and realized I had to learn to eat slower 'again.' A long time ago. I did eat slower but one job moved me into eating faster. It was a rush! I am trying to do better with that and it was good to have the challenge remind me.

I just completed this challenge. I learned a lot about eating a better diet:
I've narrowed down my ideal calorie intake that keeps me satisfied and losing weight.
I've incorporated more soups and salads.
I'm eating 5+ veggies each day PLUS 2 - 3 fruit servings! I never thought I could do it =)
I'm trying to eat more slowly and mindfully.
These habits are just that! Habits. I plan to continue eating this way...I've still got a few months to go to get to my ultimate goal, then I'll have to maintain.
Now to get the rest of my family to join me =)

I do not know what happened to my challenge - just stopped getting anything .. but did the calender - and read the articles .. eating on my plan again.. was out of food and only got veggies from the food bank as they tried to give me a plastic groc bag of cakes and cookies - another of 3 loafs of bread- spam- vienna sausage etc... horrid things not food... I did get a bag of fresh and can veggies .. so it was something .. I made my own bread - just flour water and yeast - made my blood sugars sky rocket --ugh .. granted I love breads - cakes- cookies etc.. but I can not have them ..................I want to live !!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my fourth week and I have done fairly well. There were a couple of days where I almost got all of the veggies in. I, too, was having a problem with illness. I think I could do those couple of days before I check out on week four. This has been an interesting challenge and some of the things I have already done, so it was not as hard as some of the other ones I have done. Hope everyone is having a good challenge!

I've been enjoying this challenge.
Common sense and realistic. YAY!
I certainly find that if I eat what I should, I don't tend to eat what I shouldn't! Even on SparkPeople there are some folks who think that NOT eating is the way to lose weight. This challenge would help them see the error of their ways.

I like to try diff recipes for our meals, so we don't get sick of the same old same old. This week, I found a very simple recipe that called for adding frozen sugar snap peas to the beef stew meat. First time I'd ever purchased them frozen. I like how many veggie choices there are in the froz food section. This is necessary for us who live in the frozen north, LOL.

I also am starting week 4. I have been doing most of these things but it is always good to take a refresher course ! I am learning how to put more flavor into my food w/o adding sooo many cals. My downfall has been trying to eat healthy AND enjoy the food. I have been trying different things I found on SP but it is an on going practice ! Wish Me Luck !! ( I lost 2 pounds in the 3 weeks which is about how I been doing for awhile now.)

So I finished this program; yippee! I weighed myself as of today i'm at 169, I hate when fluctuates as some days goes up a couple pounds higher, but feels good i'm progressing as I started out from 173-176 all the time. I cut out most carbs which helped and eating scrambled eggs 1-2 times a day for a meal with 1 slice of cheese helps with lower calories in my meals. Then fruits and yogurt and 1 snack i make can be high in fat if eat a lot at once, but good for low carb, high protein diet - deviled eggs; finally got a good recipe down to taste right way and using mayo vs. miracle whip makes it taste way better. At least 45 min. exercise 5 days a wk helps as when was at 30 min. didn't feel like helped as much, but at that time i ate more carbs too. Iike doing different spark people exercises and challenges along with wii challenge for biggest loser i am doing for 3 months, 1 month down so far and then doing air climber stepper for 10 mn. on exercise days

I have a pedometer, I worked out last night, I brought my lunch in today (tomato soup), and I had a good breakfast this morning. Let's hope some of the small changes will make a huge difference!

Oh yeah, and i joined weight watchers at work (just a little something extra to hold me accountable)

Lots of good information here. I enjoyed the way everything was presented. I put my dinner plates away years ago. I may even look for smaller plates than the salad plates I currently use.

If this was your last day, how would you spend it?

I知 glad I took this challenge. Much of the information I had learned before, but forgotten important details. Tracking my food used to be all about the calories for me, but now when I知 getting close to meeting my range I look at the breakdown of protein, fiber, etc. to see what my body needs before making food choices.. I definitely feel better physically and am prepared to take this all the way to goal! emoticon

I love the little tricks to getting thinner. i figure if it works, why not. The small plate thing actually works. Also I have a couple of depression plates that have the divisions on them and I love them. They are on the table all the time because I can help myself by using those divisions. They are actually close to the "Plate" people are working on now instead of the Pyramid.

Have a great day, all! I have some great ideas for parties that are coming up soon. They work great on those that like to sabotage someone's lifestyle and help you get past the buffet line or the candy basket without overindulging. If you want to know what they are, let me know. I'll be happy to put it on here.

Have a great one and remember your trackers along with your plan! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I also like the smaller plate option. I even use smaller utensils. It's a brain thing for me. But however it works, I'll use it.

Thanks! I'm going to continue to do this every day. It's been great. Let's move on to a new challenge! Hopefully it will be as fun as this was.

I have had a blast eating more veggies! They are so beautiful, colorful, flavorful & filling. I especially have enjoyed making a Caprese salad with fresh tomatoes and basil from the garden and my Mexican slaw with a lime garlic dressing was delicious. it was easy to not only get more veggies in my day, but I exceeded the call for 5 veggies a day more often than not. Easy and delicious and the bonus was my body responding with a big thank you. I loved this challenge!

Getting a lot of produce right now from the garden.. hooray! A great time to add more vegetables and lighten up recipes. I'm going to make zucchini lasagna using strips of zucchini in place of the noodles.

Thanks MetalJen for the encouragement. I think everyone has 1-2 foods where its a struggle to maintain control and work on portions and not going wild. I practise avoidance when it comes to pizza but the SO and Dad love pizza so on those nights I make a salad and make sure I have 1-2 slices of pizza then the salad and I allow one more slice and that's it. The day after I am on a careful calorie plan with a lot more fruit and vegetables to compensate a little for the carbs that night!
I think this challenge has taught me my sodium needs to be a lot lower and I am achieving that this week (and no pizza this week or next will help) and planning meals as much as I can shows me that I can control my carbs and fat content much easier when I pre plan my meals.
3 slices of pizza is still likely too much but I brought it down from 4-6 slices in a meal which is outrageous and unhealthy really. I'm not a teenager or in my 20's anymore~

Starting week 4 in a few hours and I am off to a fabulous start today, I did 17,213 steps in my walking tonight, I tracked my food and eliminated pretty much all processed food from every meal. I did my 64ozs of water & had a great amount of sleep.
I went over the mindful eating techniques discussed in the recommended article and I have been eating since the beginning on smaller plates and eating more fruits and vegetables than meat, fish or side dishes. I find I do much better with planning out my meals for the day rather than winging it. I pre portion my foods so I don't eat mindlessly as well.
I do have a food weakness and its called pizza. Last week, I ate 2 slices for dinner and had salad with it and ate one more piece after I was done with the salad. After those 3 slices I felt sort of naughty but I was proud of myself because I stopped with 3 pieces when I could eat 4-6 pieces mindlessly previously. I'm learning how to eat pizza lol.
I fill out the nutrition tracker each day and sometimes I tweak it but it helps me from going overboard with the calories. Plus I make sure I get in enough protein, fruit and vegetables and go easy on bread products or snacks. This seems to work for me very well~

Starting week 4. I have been up and down with the same 5 lbs since I started this challenge but at least I have not gained more than what I started with. I have incorporated many more fruits and veggies into my meals. I really need to concentrate on slowing down while eating and eating veg first. Thanks for all the great info.

I like the idea of eating all the veggies first, then only finish what you can eat of the proteins. I tried it last night and it worked for me, too. Great idea on how to cut down without leaving out the important stuff.

Thanks.

I haven't been posting after each week (full time student, even in the summer) but I HAVE been logging and watching the graph just sloooope down on calories and weight! I LOST FIVE POUNDS!!

The only thing I added outside of this challenge was upping my water too. When I'm full of water I'm not as prone to grazing, and when I eat my veggies I'm less hungry at mealtimes (and don't always finish my whole meal!) That was hard at first... I ate my veggies first, lingered over dinner, and wouldn't be hungry by the time I was only halfway through the entree. But, I listened to the veggies and my belly.

WEE!

Since I have surgery scheduled for the middle of this week, and my food choices have been severely changed, I will have to redo week 4 the following week. I don't mind, it'll just give me some more time to relearn things I forgot.

I'm making progress in the fact that I re-read some articles yesterday and in the past couple of weeks that had information in them I had forgotten about, such as making protein (something my doctor wants me to eat more of) a higher priority. I need to add them to every meal. Working on that by using beans, flax, and other protein type foods.

I may just do this challenge again so I can relearn some things I forgot.

Have a great one!

Over the course of this challenge I have made veggies the bulk of my lunch and dinner, and I think I can stick with that. I've tweaked my breakfast to reduce the fat and also changed the recipe of my smoothie snack to increase the calcium and fiber. Overall, a pretty successful four weeks.

I grew up eating kale as my parents grew the stuff. I didn't like it then and still don't as it is a very "strong" veggie. However, it is also loaded with good things and if you don't mind strong, then it's a good one to eat.

I'm a zucchini girl myself, plus beets. Being from WA, a beet hub, I also grew up eating beets, swiss chard and a host of other veggies. But somewhere along the line, I knew I was a meat and potatoes girl and the veggies disappeared from my life, not totally, but basically.

Now I am back to eating them a lot and they are great. I remember going to Weight Watchers one time (actually I went several times, but I was - ) and the leader said, make the veggie the main coarse and the meat and other things the side dishes. That was easy - potatoes were always first for me. However, I knew that was not what she meant and it took a long time - not sure it still isn't there - but I tried to change my idea of the potato from a veggie to something that doesn't really fit into food categories.

For me, potatoes are bad. They are starch and my body uses them like rocket fuel, which is not good for me. Unfortunately for me, I have attached certain foods with potatoes, like fish and chips, picnics have to have chips, burgers have to have fries, hot dogs have to have chili and there's a interesting concept right there. I'm trying to disconnect those foods from potatoes like I did the hot dog. I just haven't found the good connection yet. Sorry, but kale will not be a connection with anything for me.

Have a great one!

Last day of week 4. I'm very glad I did this; I'm eating 5 veggies a day, and enjoying every bite. I gave up most veggies years ago because dh is picky, and I cooked for him. . .strictly a time/energy thing. I'm now taking the time to make a lunch that includes veggies. Good for me!

OK. I made the Spark Kale Enchiladas recipe. dh gave it two thumbs down. I think I might try it again substituting swiss chard for the kale before I make a final decision. As I've said before: kale is only good in Olive Garden's Zuppa Toscana. 8-)

I am going to do week 4 over. After the holiday weekend I was completely thrown off my game! So this weekend I am going to do some food shopping, pick up some more fruits and veggies and try out some of the ideas from the article "10 Easy Ways to Lighten Up Any Recipe" Got some helpful hints from that article and I am looking forward to trying them!

This challenge was good for me....definitely got more veggies in...more exercise and watched my portions and snacks carefully. Lost 1 kg and now on a plateau. But don't have that much to lose...just gotta keep at it. Good luck all.
