The graduation dinner is over, and we had 39 people. I was worn out by the end of Saturday, but had such a good time! I am also very happy that I don't have any big events scheduled for the foreseeable future! We lucked out on the weather, too, and were able to scatter around the yard and garden. So lucky!! Hope you had a good weekend. I'm still recovering from the mess.....

I didn't really request any advice--just started talking--I like our little chatting threads--at least it stimulates some involvement and camaraderie--if you have ideas--feel free to implement them :)

Gosh, your lives are so exciting. I have no place to go....nothing to do....nobody to visit!@#$%^& I really do, but still not as exciting as a graduation party at my house or lunch at Panera with old friends. Although, this morning I met some of my retiree friends for breakfast after I worked out at the Y for an hour.

Actually, I have been scouting around our team to get some of our members more involved. I visit their Sparkpages, having very nice conversations with them and being added as their friends, but they don't join these threads. There hasn't been much activity on this site since 2012. JJ and Michelle, were you provided any advice on how to stimulate team involvement?

Glad you've been having a good time, Michelle. It is nice to break away from technology at times.

I'll probably be absent for a few days, too, with out-of-town guests and a graduation party at our house this weekend.

Hope you both enjoy, and hope THE RAIN STOPS!!

I'm here:) was away from technology for about a week--enjoying the first few days of summer break--busy in the garden, then went to Decorah last weekend for a wedding. Met my best friend at Panera yesterday for breakfast (and again for lunch) yesterday to celebrate summer break--hit the quarter sale at the 53rd St Goodwill--took a 2 mile walk--had a great day!

As nice as the sun feels today, I can't tolerate the humidity. Hopefully, you are getting everything organized for your graduation party this week end.

Where's Michelle???? Today I have been concerned about everyone surviving the storms. So many peole had flooded basements during the last batch of storms we had.

A little bit more rain, but not much. Seeing a bit of sun is good! I'm working to get ready for our son's college graduation dinner here at our house on Saturday. Lots of work to do, but the only thing I'm really worried about is whether it rains!

Staying on track with food and exercise!

It looks like we're poised to get lots more rain. I sure hope not! Everything is soaking wet and our basement is not able to dry out before the next round comes. We haven't had water, but for a little, in our basement since we had our roof, gutters and downspouts done a couple of years ago. Not so with the storms we've had recently. Everything is wet and I am not happy!! emoticon

Food and exercise good today, though, so I can feel good about that at least. Hope you all stay dry!!

Let's hope for no rain today!

Too bad about the seating at I-Wireless and your aversion to heights. Why do people have to pick seats right next to someone else when the upper deck is all available? I'll never get that.

I don't work outside the home, even though I'm not retired, so the best part of this holiday is that my husband is not working!

Hope everyone enjoys the day!

Judy, since I'm retired....EVERY DAY IS A DAY OFF!!!!! However, with this weather, what difference does it make if you are stuck at home or stuck at work?????

We went to Rock Island High School's graduation today at the I-Wireless Center in the midst of a drenching downpour. There were no available seats, so we were ushered to the top deck, which they had to open for the over-flow of people. I am not comfortable in crowds or high places, especially while weighted down in dripping wet clothes.

Our neice was one of the speakers, and no sooner had she given her speech, two guys with huge backpacks pushed into the seats in front of us. I became so paranoid that I convinced my Husband to get the heck out of there. We never even saw our neice receive her diploma.

By the time we made it to the front door it was raining so hard that the street was completely flooded. As we walked (or waded) to our car we were drowned by vehicles racing through the deep water. I was so happy to get home and peel off my wet clothes.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better day, especially for those who have Memorial Day picnics or graduation celebrations planned. Enjoy your holiday, Judy and Michelle. emoticon

Well, another day of cold and rain. I am so frustrated with it! We had to turn the heat on again this morning because I couldn't stand it. We need reliable low temps not below 50, or in our big barn of a house, we'll have to keep the heat on. This is nuts!

Nan, I laughed at your description of Wendy's and the chili. I probably would have been ordering that, too. The plants are all doing very well (surprise, surprise, with the rain....) and I am happy about that. After all the work to put the containers together, it sure is nice to have enough rain to keep them going. I will water them, of course, if it doesn't rain, but rain means I only have to water a few.

Since we're having to put up with these COOL temps this Spring, I expect a cool summer, too! I hope I get what I want! LOL Have a good Sunday, and we can at least enjoy the fact that tomorrow is still a day off!

WOW!!!! Judy, you are jammin'. This weather has boosted my appetite for comfort foods like grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. I settled for a small Wendy's chili, which seemed to be the popular meal today, as everyone in the restaurant was ordering it. We all sat in our hooded sweatshirts hovered over cardboard containers of hot steaming chili. It is November, right????

How are your plants holding up? This rain should help the greenery in our yards, but the temperatures scare me.

Maybe during our next conversation we will be complaining about being too hot!!!

Hello Michelle and Nan! Can you believe it's supposed to be in the low 40s again tonight? I can't. My plants that were in the house until yesterday are probably going to be a little upset tonight. On the upside, I finished planting 40 containers yesterday, and was outside doing that for 8 hours straight! I was SO tired and sore when I finished, but SO happy that I was done! They look beautiful. I am also grateful and happy that with PT, SP, and renewed exercise I am able to do that work!

Nan, 1200 calories sure isn't much. One of the things I have done is to lift weights and do other body weight exercises. I think those have helped to continue losing weight even though I may eat some days at the high end of my calorie count. Michelle probably has many more thoughts than that. I am certainly still a work in progress, with many pounds to go. One day at a time is how I'm taking things, and I push forward as best I can each day. Some are easy, some not. I hope you find what your stumbling block is and get past it.

Let's hope this is our last night of 40s!

Michelle and Judy, how nice to be in touch with Quad Cities Sparkers. Being 65, I have no intentions of turning into a super model or body builder through this program. However, I encourage others, including my doctor and wellness coaches at the Y, to experience the benefits of SPARKPEOPLE. I'm beginning to sound like a "born again Sparker" after returning to the site.

Right now I am having a difficult time losing pounds, but can't seem to even reach 1200 calories a day. Michelle, how did you overcome this problem when you began getting yourself in shape....which is a beautiful shape, by the way. I'm about ready to hit Whitey's just to gain a few calories.

I've enjoyed reading Michelle's Sparkpage and seeing her transformation. Judy, I'd love to know more about you. I guess I need to establish a better page myself since I pretty well deleted many of the information I had previously posted about myself.

May Memorial Day Mumbling.....why did I pack away all of my sweaters and warm clothes?????

Michelle, I'm just happy our rain has been at night! Love to have the entire day for planting, although I'm bushed when I'm done. (No pun intended!) I want to get all containers planted this week if I can. Next week I'll look at the ground to see what has to be tackled before the grad dinner we're having here. Lots of work!

Nan, it's nice to "hear" another voice from the QC group. Michelle and I have been "mumbling" by ourselves for several months now, so having another will rev us up a bit, I imagine. Getting together over the summer at Michelle's favorite place is ok with me. Not until after all the graduation hubbub is over for me, though!

Have a good day! Going outside again!

Congratulations on the graduation, Judy--I too have been in planting mode--was so thrilled to get most of my things that I'd purchased so far- into the ground on Sunday before the gully washer came. I have a few things left--I figure I can get them in quickly in the next few days--then I will tackle containers too. :)

Hi Nan!! Glad to have another contributor to our "mumbling" :)
I would love to get together with a group sometime over the summer at say....Panera!! One of my favorite places--I'm so down with that!

Glad to see that somebody is still alive on the Quad Cities Spark team and offering some "May Mumblings". I just returned from a brief "vacation" from the Spark program, but have realized that tracking my food really helps.

Last year at this time I made a weak attempt to help our team leader in charging up this team, but we didn't seem to connect. We both were busy with other commitments at that time. Though I still have the same commitments, I feel that this team could use a SPARK. Any suggestions???? Now that the weather is nice we could even meet at a centrally located place like a park or coffee shop.

Yes, thank you, my antibiotic is doing something. My sinuses are still packed, but I think they're loosening. We're off to our son's college graduation tomorrow so I sure hope I get better soon. Tried to take a nap this afternoon but couldn't. Hope I sleep well tonight.

Way to go, getting those walks and bike rides in! If we have some nice 70s, it will be perfect. I think I will have a lot of walking over the weekend. I hope my heel is up to it. It will be good for the times I am not eating according to my meal plan!

Have a good weekend!

I am pretty excited about summer vacation. It is always such a welcome time :)
Rode my bike to school (work) today--walked for a mile before punching in, and I plan to get another one in at lunch time too--might do it outside on the track instead of the indoor one today--it's beautiful out there!!

The pizza was really good, and I figured out why after I ate 2 pieces: it had sausage and pepperoni on it!! I didn't even think about it when eating it. It was ok, though as far as my meal plan goes. Spent all week on the go, mainly acquiring plants for all the containers I pot up each year. Thursday night I got a lousy cold and feel yucky today. Will take a nap with 2 nights of very poor sleep. Hope you have a good weekend.

I hope you enjoyed the birthday party. Missing the cake-baking was probably ok. ;)

I finished my mulching today, and I am beat. My husband helped me, thank goodness, but it is always a hard job. I twisted funny while turning to take a step, though, and came down twisting and very hard on my sore heel. Now it's REALLY sore. I think I wrenched the Achilles tendon, at least it felt like it. I limped around to finish the mulching and weeding out all of the volunteer tree saplings that grew up last summer (too hot to take care of it then). I didn't plant any containers because I was worn out by then. I've got ice on the heel, and am going to call about getting another shot tomorrow. What a hassle!

I now get out of making dinner tonight (a new SP recipe....) because I am not going to stand up on the heel to do that. Husband is bringing Papa Murphy's pizza - Delight.

Hope your day is going well!

Since the band trip has been cancelled, I get to go to my niece's first Birthday party this afternoon--still have to get a gift yet--her older brother has a Birthday close too, and it's a shared party, so I have shopping for two to get done today, a walk, an oil change for my car, and I was gonna help my mom with the cakes--but a check in with her a few minutes ago reveals that she will be finished with it likely before I'll be able to get there--bad aunt ;)

Well, not to worry about it getting too warm too soon. More of what we're used to today. Even so, my husband and I spread some more mulch after he got home from work. Things are looking up, little by little.
