No, it was my first Saturday after doing my first full week of turbo after my first Sunday reward day after I had started his carb cycling.
I am really rooting for you for this next weekend!

STARTINGINLIMBO, you said you lost 5 lbs after slingshot, did you lose it on the weigh day directly after slingshot, or the week after you went back to the LC, HC days? WI yesterday I was up 1.2 lbs from last week, but this is my slingshot week. Today is reward day, and then back to regular Turbo week for my 5th week. Hoping next Saturday shows some results. As it stands I am now 4 weeks in and 2.2 lbs heavier. Im staying above 1200 always

Are you staying above 1200 calories? I know he says 1500 for HCdays, but I often have a hard time even getting in 1200 calories. Not getting in enough food can do that to you. I know he says we can eat as many veggies as we'd like (but that's a lot of chewing, lol! I sometimes think the flavor shots he tells us to have two fingers of is to help fill in the calorie deficit. I just don't usually want any.

DARKLING, that actually sounds absolutely reasonable, and I plan on doing that from now on. You know how on LC days we aren't to have carbs, and on HC days we aren't to have fats? I think on my reward days, I will just allow those combos, like PB on my toast, or even HEidi Powells, PB protein bars, yum! Yes please!
Also, does anyone feel lethargic during HC days? I know he said we are supposed to have more energy, but this is my slingshot week and I am literally dragging. As I do every HC day it seems. I am eating a fist size of carbs, 2 fist size of veggies, and palm size of protein every meal, no extras, nothing I'm not supposed to.

Instead of taking in processed foods on your reward days have you thought about just increasing the amounts of the stuff that you're already eating clean with? It's not necessary to take in junk food for a reward day--all he's after is the extra calories how ever you choose to ingest them. I do this every reward day and have very little, to no bounce... I do save a few extra calories for a dessert at dinner if I'm craving it, but other than that I just beef up my calories with the foods I'm eating all week.. Just an idea!

Yeah, he does. Also says to make sure you're getting enough calories. I assume you are.
I have a very hard time getting enough. Probably because I haven't been taking in grains due to trying to clear up my skin from nickel allergy (can be a good bit of of nickel in grains).
It's interesting how different bodies can be I guess.
It's good you'll give it a full five weeks.
I'm so sorry about your knee. Arg...

I know he says we are supposed to have more energy on HC days, but I do not. I feel sluggish and exhausted. I do have more energy on LC days. This is my slingshot week, but I gained 3 lbs on my reward day Sunday, so I imagine, Ill spend all week just losing or keeping that. ugh. I have decided that reward days aren't going to happen for me. I can no longer imagine eating super clean and whole all week just to undo it with processed foods on reward day. The extent of my reward day will now be eating fat with carbs at meals. I feel like this entire month so far has been a total waste on my weight loss journey. Not a waste, but a lesson learned. I did say I will hold out til week 5, the week after slingshot to gauge where Im at. I think we all should give it that time, for our bodies to adjust. I also have a knee injury so any of Chris's exercises are out the window. Good thing I'm a trainer ;) I can make up my own, and do. But I don't do the 9 min. missions in the morning, because it takes me half the day just to get my knee to co-operate. Keep on keeping on!!! My spirits are high :)

You can have a little bitty bit of fat. Find something like bruschetta that you can have with potatoes or such? It's oily but only 1.5 grams of fat for the one I have. You can have lean beef- it would still fill the craving for fat I'm sure.
You can do it. Only have to wait 'til reward day to have more fat than that. :)

Samsullivan200, I finally found where I'd written what I lost during my first slingshot week- almost a pound, (note how I did it below though), and an inch on my waist, as well as an inch on my hips! You might want to measure yourself first and then again at the end of the week. :)

We're all so different in terms of slingshot week..
I lost about 3lbs at the end of mine--one of my best weeks.. and I just ate normal HC days including grains, sometimes several times a day.
Trust the process!

It might. I lost a very little bit during slingshot week, but it sounded like Chris said to not expect to lose weight. When you think about it though, if you're only eating 1500 calories (well, for women it's 1500 calories) and exercising, then that's still weight loss mode- it's just that he says that your body can hold onto water big time when you're eating grains. I made sure I ate mostly fruit, rather than grains, and ate the kinds of veggies (cucumber especially) that would make me get rid of extra water when I did slingshot week. As usual, he says not to worry about it- it's just to prepare your body for the metabolism to change for the next week when you do one of the plans- then the end of that week you should defininitely see results.
In fact, he says whenever you're not seeing results -stop and do slingshot, then the week after slingshot the results should be back.
Oh wow, I just went and looked and found out that I am supposed to do slingshot this week too! I'm glad we're talking about this! :) I guess I should write it on the calendar!

Yes, Samsullivan200, slingshot week is required by Chris for everyone. You do the plan you choose for three weeks, and then you do a slingshot week to reset your body- since it's gotten used to the way you've been eating for three weeks. On slingshot week you eat high carb each day, (according to his rules for such of course) and have your reward day as usual. Then you go back to your chosen plan for the next three weeks before doing slingshot again. It continues like that for every four weeks. Your metabolism gets revved up when you do this, so you can get losing the weight again better.

So your clothes aren't tight now. That's progress! I just read a blog about a girl who found out her scale has been telling her she's been gaining weight and then found out that she'd actually lost twenty pounds during the time she's been thinking she'd gained!
I like your determination!!!

No, I start slingshot next week. I do have to tell you, I tried clothes on today, that a few weeks ago fit, but were tight. Today they fit, so Im not real sure why the inches or scale says there's no loss. I'm not NOT giving up. I am holding this through to the week after slinshot, and if I dont see a change, I will try the classic cycle, even though I'm on turbo now. I may be limiting cheat days to just a few hundred extra calories, not 1000. We'll see. Dont worry bout me girls, I got this! :)

Definitely second the idea of trying to see if Chris or Heidi have ideas...also talk to your doctor. That's probably one thing Chris will say is to contact your dr to see if this is doable for you.. My body seems to like the "break" in carbs every other day and combined w/ protein it's much like the "linking" diet that is recommended for people w/ insulin reistance.

I hope you find some answers soon!

Wow, I'm sorry. How very very frustrating.
I've always had insulin problems too. The nurse had to stop a fasting sugar check on me by calling the doctor and telling him how low my sugar had gone and how I was reacting to that. I'm not diabetic, but I know it could turn that way.
I'm really surprised that after two weeks there hasn't been a change. I wonder if you should contact Chris and ask him about it.

You're in your slingshot week right now--week 4? You'll most likely see a small gain this week, I know I did. I'm insulin resistant so I commiserate with you... my losses are slllloooooow and I know how frustrating it can be. Try and hang in there and see what happens. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that something clicks the next couple weeks for you!

Im with SAMSULLIVAN, I gained again this week on my reward day, and it took all week to lose it. So, essentially I have done this for 3 weeks with no change at all. My measurements have even stayed the same. I am sticking with it until the end of week five, because I know week 4 is slingshot, but if I don't see a change after week five, then I will decide where to go from there. I can't afford to stall out in my weight loss journey now, as I have lost steadily since May, not alot, but never stalled this long. I have to wonder if maybe his plan just doesn't work for some people, like me with PCOS and Insulin sensitivity. Whatever. Im not happy today.

I find that I only gain slightly after reward day..the scale's only ever bounced up several ounces and usually gone in a day or 2... I also make sure to ramp up my water the day after reward day, it seems to help!

Chris said we'd gain on reward day- all the salt and starch and sugars will do that, but that it's to rev up our metabolism for the rest of the week- it's why he doesn't want us to weigh until the morning of the last day of low carb after that in a week.

I believe the cheat day is supposed to be a HC day. So, that means, all your meals are HC. I know he mentioned that your last meal shouldn't be a cheat meal, but, it seems that that is when I usually have it. Seems to be working ok for me since I don't eat much cheating throughout the day. One night while I was out with my daughter at Red Robin for my cheat day, she says to me, "Mom, you really don't eat like your cheating!" Just gotta love her!! I guess salad really isn't cheating, but, that's me!! We did go across the way and have some see's candy, so there you go, I cheated!!

Ok, so as I sit here pondering his answer..... I wonder if the 5x a day is supposed to be HC d LC? LOL I know that the extra 1000 cals can potentially be anything we want, HC or LC..but what about those pesky 5? See? I need to get out of my own way sometimes! ;)

Here is the answer he gave to me last week, I got another answer from Heidi a few days later, same answer.
"Chris Powell: Squash and pumpkin are veggies, and your carrots are a carb!"

I hope that clears it up for anyone who was wondering, and it sure was bugging the heck outta me! I am so glad to hear the answer!

Danielle, I read it last night, 5 times a day, but on the cycle where you eat reward meals, you shouldn't save it for the last meal. I don't think I remember about the reward day not eating a reward at dinner time.
Someone else might want to ask about the squash and pumpkin on his pages then, but I even posted his answer to the main questions thread we have going, last week.

I thought I'd read it somewhere in the book, but can't find it now..so now I'm wondering where I saw it, but....I thought it was to eat 5x a day like before while including throughout the day your favorite things you've been craving...and not to save the extra calories just for dinner. I could be wrong? I'm gonna post on Chris' FB page and see if he answers cause it's driving me nuts now! LOL

Can someone please explain the cheat day guidelines to me? I am currently on week 3 of the classic cycle. I am loving it. I love the cheat days, but I do feel that I am undoing all of the good work I am doing all week. On a cheat day, am I suppose to eat 5 times a day? It is ok to graze all day? I know it's only suppose to be approximately 1000 extra calories. I just want to make sure I am cheating correctly.

That's so strange because I thought someone asked him and he said that pumpkin was definitely a carb. Guess I'm back to confused.
So when you cook with butter, you're still getting your other oil that you need I hope.
Yep, he said thumb which he also said was a tablespoon. You are saying your fists are smaller than a cup size so must be you're saying your thumb is too.
I imagine you're staying away from sodium and getting enough probiotic.
Well, all I can say is, I hope you start seeing results this week!

Well, I read everyone's comments here about the pumpkin and squash, and no one could agree, so I asked on both Chris and Heidi's FB, they BOTH said squash is for ALL squash and pumpkin, and is counted as a veggie.
My fists are 3/4 cup, so thats what I do. I hardly ever use 1 Tbl butter, only if I cook with it, and even then, it goes for all of my familiy's portion, not just mine. I'm going off his smart carbs, fats etc list where it says a thumb size is what we measure of all seeds, nut butters, oils, etc.

Is your whey protein powder low carb?
I think it was found out that pumpkin is actually a carb that raises blood sugar. We need to keep it down on low carb days.
When you say fists of veggies, you do mean cupfuls I hope? Chris said that a woman's fist equals a cupful. So two cups of veggies per meal, right? Enough fiber is very important.
I'm just wondering if you're getting enough fat for low carb days. If you compare a tbsp. of oil's fat, compared to the seeds'/nuts' fat, it's quite a difference.
I believe he said butter in very small amounts for cooking but not a tbsp. for a low carb healthy fat.
Thanks for sharing!

B 3/4 c. oatmeal, egg or egg whites, some sort of vegetable
L 2 fists salad, balsamic or pomegranate vinegar (1 Tbl or less), 1/8 c. sunflower seeds on salad, protein source, whatever I have on hand, always low sodium,
S whey protein powder, 1/4 c. pumpkin puree, spices, 10 almonds or pecans
D palm size meat (chicken, turkey breast, etc), 2 fists veggie (salad, green beans, etc) 1 Tbl fat in form of butter, oil, slivered almonds, etc.
S 2% fage plain greek yogurt, 1/4 c. pumpkin puree or other veggie, 10 pecans
shapers and shredders during day, also 1 gal water down the hatch. .

Nope, not me. I definitely live it up on cheat day. Bacon, and other meat that might be more fatty or salty (I need the meat to balance my blood sugar for the rest!) "candy", "ice cream", and so on. I tend to avoid fruit and veggies that day, lol. It works- I lose weight each week.

Are you serious? Apparently I have been doing my cheat days all wrong, as it appears you all still stick to healthy eating for the most part. I was under the impression that we could eat what we want for each meal, and being honest, I dont WANT healthy food of any sort if I am allowed to not have it. However, that could be why I have gained 2 lbs after each cheat day.
So, I ate 5 meals yesterday
-Whole wheat English muffin, egg, low sodium cheese, 1 slice low sodium bacon
- crescent roll with nutella baked in, 1/2 crescent with nut and br. sugar baked in (100 cal crescent each)
- went crazy- chocolate chip cookie dough, cookies, 5 resses pb cup miniatures
-pizza balls, dough with pepperoni and cheese rolled in =3 slices pizza
- another cookie
I do feel like crap, and HATE these days, and wondered what the heck Chris means and is doing. It cant be right to eat so healthy all week and then ruin it all on one day, defeating all your hard work. I dont want to do this next week.
*edited to say I love the days while Im in them, but the day after is like a coma and I hate it!!**

Lol your welcome and thanks! emoticon I know you'll be in control of your cheat day...you always do it so awesomely!! I am looking forward to doing the classic with you as well!! I loved Chris's first book when he only talked about the classic plan...I always think that the first is always the best...if they try to improve it doesn't work as good. you know what I mean? I love the fact that high carb day revs up the metabolism so the next day on low carb day you burn off fat!! It makes sense to me and I can even feel it working...I know that might sound crazy...but its true emoticon

LAMOURA, thanks for sharing your cheat day. Makes me feel that you're human too!!! You know what you did and like you said, you're right back at it today. I am so looking forward to switching to classic with you. So done with these 2 low carb days in a row. It's hindering, not helping!! Tomorrow, cheat day! Haven't figured out what I"m cheating on yet. Hmmmmm.....

ALISALEA stick to your plan.... Carbohydrate cycling is a sercret weapon in the health and fitness indrustry... used for over 30 years to maximize fat loss while maintaining muscle...the back and forth cycle of high calorie/ high carb days and low calorie/ low carb days revs your metabolic furnace and makes your body think it's eating enough on low carb days so it keeps on burning calories and thus fat! So on high carb days your raising your metabolism so on low carb days you will burn off body fat! And that is carb cycling! so in order for this plan to work great for you you need those high carb days!! And also even if it is your cheat day you need to eat every 3 hours...4 at the most... as the longer you wait to eat the more your body will go into starvation mode and hold onto that fat as storage... making it nearly impossible to lose weight and it will start to cannibalize on itself eating precious muscle!!....but if you eat every 3-4 hours your body will have no idea your trying to lose weight and it will let go of the fat that much easier and leave your muscle right were it belongs...on you!!! emoticon

Today is cheat day for me! I made bacon and homemade waffles for breakfast. Had chopped walnuts and guava syrup on mine. After that big breakfast I wasn't hungry for a morning snack so it was about 5 hours between meals. Lunch was a grilled ham and cheese on wheat bread with cantaloupe and raspberries. For dinner I'm planning smothered boneless pork chops with whole wheat pasta and oven roasted veggies. And for a real treat Blue Bell Banana Pudding ice cream.

I'm leaving on my cruise on Thursday so I'm thinking about doing low carb for the next three days. I already know I'm going to indulge a bit while I'm gone. (wine, lots of fresh fruit, and a dessert or two) Then it will be right back on Turbo when I get home. After that I think I have 8 weeks until all the Thanksgiving goodies. Last year I let myself regain 12 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Years. Don't want to do that again!

Eating with no control but most of my foods were healthy...so I had 6 pieces of red licorice, 10 jube jubes...3 oz. of whole grain chips..a areo cookies and cream ice cream bar...and the rest of my day was just not balanced at all!! I ate mostly carbs and more carbs...like fruit and whole grain crackers...that was a crazy day! Back in control today though!! emoticon

Saturday is my off day. We went to Ghost the musical

I had brown bread with raisins for breakfast with 1/2 cup egg beaters and one turkey sausage patty. FroYo with yummy toppings for lunch. In our hotel room we set up a cheese/fruit/meat spread with a bottle of prosecco mid afternoon. Dinner we shared a cheeseburger and fries.

My first ever reward day carb cycling Chris Powell style:

For breakfast I shouldn't have just had some things I COULD have today- should have gone with what I was craving having, but I tried a chocolate fruit and nut bar and it was Ewww (too sweet and just not tasty to me), so just ate half.
Tried an oatmeal cherry walnut clif bar and thought it way too sweet, but finished it and took some chromium picolonate to help stabilize my blood sugar since I could strongly feel the effect on my body from all the sweetness.

For my first snack meal, I decided to try Smithfield's hickory smoked pork chop (looked more like a pork medallion to me...). Little did I know it would be so very salty! Ehhh I followed it up with a baked red potato with a topping I really liked called Artichoke antipasto. Then, not feeling like munching on veggies, I put kale and, cukes into my nutribullet, figuring veggies would help neutralize all the saltiness I was feeling, and that didn't taste that great when I tried the shake, so added cantaloupe too. Much better.

For Lunch: My daughter and her husband have been looking forward to having pancakes (My husband is so good at making them, and we haven't had them in awhile. SIL wanted to try out the syrup he got from the state fair too.) and bacon with us today, so that's what was for lunch. My daughter brought brownies for her dad and me, so I had a piece of brownie as well. It was so good, but just a piece was enough for me to thoroughly enjoy.
We all went to an edible plants presentation/walk after that, and though they had some for us to taste, I didn't have any. I am not certain whether I am allergic to mushrooms or not, though I do like the store bought kind... (since I'm allergic to mold), and the lady kept warning us to take little bits just in case we might have an allergy to one that we didn't know about...
My parents came to the thing too, but dad played Sudoku while we attended the presentation/walk. It was so late that my husband and our daughter and her husband left before the walk, since hubby had to be somewhere soon and the other two said it was getting late. They aren't into mushrooms and it did seem to mostly be about that. The walk did show us some other plants though.
Anyhow, by the time I got home (-the whole thing got postponed about an hour and a half) should have brought food with me!) I was SO hungry. I had half a serving of junior mints and almost half a serving of jolly rancher chews that I'd guessed I might want some of today (thus why I purchased them at the store last night), while I waited for the pot pie I also purchased to be done cooking. While chewing a jolly rancher chew, I had a tooth break. Weird to chomp down on something super hard while chewing something somewhat soft- and then discover it was two back pieces of a many years ago deeply filled molar! No pain though, yay.

For my 5th meal I had a 6 inch ham sub, a cup of raspberries and a half an almond joy kandy bar kake.
Didn't really feel like having the latter- but had purchased it the night before, thinking it might be interesting to try, and had the calorie room, so tried it.

Total calories for the day equal 2,384, so about the extra thousand calories I was supposed to do. :)

well their recipes I tweak....I like to make something more healthy....the popcorn cake was through a friend but I did moderate my recipe somewhat...I use less butter as you don't need that much for it to taste good and I like almonds better then peanuts and heck no gum drops for me please!! The apple strudel recipe I will put up calls for whole wheat bread crumbs...I don't use those just wrap the filling up with phyllo pastry! Yum! I will get to that recipe sometime today...I do have to work on catching up with sparks then I have a few other things that need getting done...life hey?? It gets in the way sometimes!! emoticon

Chana - that's crazy that a restaurant would have NO veggies! Maybe you can bring your own baggie full of veggies next time! emoticon

I had fried chicken, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, coleslaw, and a biscuit from Bojangles yesterday. It was yummy and I ate it with no regrets! Than had butter toffee popcorn later on for dessert. That was eh, okay. Won't be eating those again! Not worth it.

Going out to dinner Sunday night and excited that I finally get to go out with friends on a high carb day. Since the boys left, we have gone out to dinner twice (Monday and Tuesday). Monday was cheat day, so that was good. Last night, had to request: Teriyaki chicken and salad with miso dressing. Not much else to have there. Won't be going back there on a low carb day. They didn't have any vegetables.

Chana - your cheat day makes me hungry! Haha but I agree with LaDelle, looks good! This weekend I am making hazelnut honey cakes! Plus, we are going to the circus so may have some circus food while there!

Monday was my cheat day:

breakfast: 1/4 c oatmeal with yogurt and blueberries (uncooked oatmeal mixed with the yogurt and fruit on top. put in frig overnight. mix it all up in the morning and you have breakfast or a snack on a high carb day!)

snack: quest bar and pirates booty

lunch: grande decaf skinny mocha, chicken wrap from McDonald's $1.00 menu

snack: slim fast nacho cheese bites, a piece of Sees candy

dinner: salmon salad from Elephant Bar, a small peanut butter cookie from Mrs. Fields, a fruttare strawberry bar, 1 piece of chocolate

I think I did ok. Looking forward to being back on turbo this week. No more slingshot!!!!

Why is it that food I wouldn't even consider eating on another day just seems to call my name on Cheat day? I went to Dollar General this afternoon and ended up buying a Milky Way.and ate it in little bitty bites to make it last.

Dinner was my daughter's request, Chicken Chow Mein casserole, a baked potato with butter, cheese and greek yogurt and a buttermilk biscuit with honey. (I'll eat veggies tomorrow, darn it!)

Then I had watermelon and a piece of dark chocolate. I'm currently at 2485 calories so I need to go to bed! LOL But I did drink plenty of water today.

Cheat day today! For breakfast I made my version of Starbucks Spinach and Feta breakfast wrap (mine are better!). For mid morning snack I had Fage yogurt with honey and a handful of trail mix (nuts and dried fruit). So far so good!

Lunch was a grilled ham and provalone sandwich on white bread and Special K honey bbq cracker chips. Carbs and fat together!
