I joined Spark People because I was beginning to believe there was no hope for me, that there was something missing or something wrong. I think I've tried everything I knew to try, some of them multiple times, but the number kept rising. I seemed to be able to succeed in other areas of my life, but couldn't win what I thought was the "fight" with food. My sister said she'd found a website that seemed logical, positive, and informative - so what's not to like - and it was free!

When I found you, I felt like I'd been welcomed in by long lost family. I began to believe I might be able to succeed, and I've begun to start speaking kindly to myself as I hold myself accountable for choices. Amazing. Thank you, SparkFriends!

I joined SparkPeople because I just kept hovering in that first 10 lb loss range... and I saw a documentary called "The Weigh We Were" which focused on people in Georgia who had successfully lost the weight and kept it off for years. I went to their website and several of the people they interviewed counted SparkPeople as an indispensible tool that they had used. SparkPeople's name is just odd enough that I decided to check it out!
And it was FREE! That was the deciding factor!

I joined because I have used the site before and it kept me accountable. I want to lose between 40-50 pounds by my 30th birthday in June because I want to start my next decade off right. Be healthy for myself. The last time I did SP I never used the teams or boards, this time I am trying to be more accountable to myself by using the social part. Down 6 pounds in 3 weeks!

Welcome, TMGSGIRL. I'm recommending you track your food daily with the Nutrition Tracker and check out "Secrets of Success" under the Community pull-down menu. And definitely keep posting, either in the discussion forums or by blogging on your SparkPage.

Tired of looking in the mirror and cringing every time I see myself ,, and tired of feeling disgusted when I see pictures of myself. Its time for a change and I realized I couldn't do it alone , not with a Hubby who cant live with out sweets.

I'm just really tired of living my life waiting for things to get better and I realised that I can't keep waiting for tomorrow, that I'm the only one that can take control of things and make a change not tomorrow not next week but now, and SparkPeople is giving me the tools to do that. emoticon

Things can only get better from here

Why I joined Sparkpeople? emoticon

I have been struggling with my weight since I was in high school and finally about October 2011 I got it under control and was happy at 155-160 pounds. Fast forward to January 2012, I got pregnant and gained 60 pounds. I had my son on October 1,2012 and now I'm trying to get back to or really close to pre-pregnancy weight. I topped out at 227 and I am currently 200, So I have about 40 pounds to go!

Now, for why I joined SP.

I have been needing to lose weight and start exercising for a long time. I have tried doing different things...fasting, Weighdown workshop, and just cutting down on eating...but even though I would lose some weight, I always gained it back (plus more). I had heard about SP several years ago, but didn't even check it out at that time.

I have recently developed several health problems (AFib, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and one blood test showed I was borderline diabetic) I have been suffering with Fibromyalgia for many years, but just started going to a pain management doctor who told me the best treatment for that was exercise and weight loss. Don't know why my other doctors didn't tell me that??? But then, at that time I probably wouldn't have done it anyway!!!

So, while searching online for anything to help, I ran across SP, (I'm sure God put it in front of my eyes) and decided to check it out. WOW! was I surprised to find out it wasn't a diet and exercise site, and it's FREE at that. I've never been able to go on a "diet" because I don't eat all those leafy greens, veggies and salads. With SP, I can eat the things I like as long as they fit into my calorie range. (I know it would be better if I ate veggies and salads, but my taste buds make me gag at the thought)

Another thing I like about SP is I get to choose my own exercise regimen. I finally get to use the recumbent bike I bought for my husband, and can see how the calories used add up. With my knees and ankles going out the way they do (it's a fibromyalgia thing), I can't run...even if I had the stamina...but I can ride the exercise bike. Hopefully I can add some walking to that, and some strength training (once I get some non latex exercise bands).

Anyway, I plan on using SP to the fullest and get this weight off slowly and forever.

Make sure you are only using 8oz cups. Most glasses and mugs are a lot bigger than 8oz. It seems like a lot when you first start, but if you replace other liquids with the water, it's not that much. I usually have trouble holding it down to that, especially now that I am exercising most days.

Best wishes for success on your health/fitness/weight loss journeys, Sparkers! SparkPeople really does make it easy to work on the whole package : )
CLOEAGH, don't worry about 'holding' 8 cups of water a day, just learn where all the campus washrooms are : ) I kind of think the flushing of body waste is an important aspect of taking in all that water.

I needed to track what I ate for an aerobics class. I started on myfitnesspal, and decided I really wanted to keep tracking. It really held me accountable for what I ate, but I didn't know how to improve quality of food and it didn't hold me accountable for exercise. Someone suggests SparkPeople, and I love it so far. The Fast Break goals definitely hold me accountable. I can't bear to not be able to check that box for working out for 10 minutes and stretching for 5. It even convinced me to buy a pedometer so I can track all the walking I do around my college campus. I still have a long way to go, but it's helped a lot so far.

Only problem is feeling like I have to drink 8 glasses of water. I am very petite. I've been trying to increase how much I drink for the past month, but if I haven't done a 45+ minute workout, I cannot hold 8 cups of water a day.

The reasons for me where simple. I think that I finally found a free, fun, easy going, organized side, to help with my goals. And the most important thing is, that I can visualise what I already have done! I just love it! So maybe my double chin will be going into no where in no time!

I joined the first time when I was 15 years old. I lied about my age in order to join (terrible, I know) but I wanted a place to come and hold myself accountable for the choices I was making in regards to diet and exercise. I've always been a thick, curvy girl...but I don't want to be that person. I had GREAT success with this website the first time and I'm back now to see the same results...but to keep it going for the rest of my life.

I'm ready for a lifestyle change....not just a dietary change that will give me a quick fix to a big problem. I also want to make friends who have common goals!

So excited to be back! :)

OK, Folks. Here's a chance to tell us a bit about why you joined SparkPeople, and how you found the site. For me, a number of years ago I took the Real Age test on Dr. Oz's site. At that time, Dr. Oz was recommending SparkPeople, so I checked it out. It was *exactly* what I needed in a health and fitness site: easy-to-use trackers, Teams for every interest, encouragement galore and sound, *very* sound health, fitness and motivation advice.
