Considering I haven't worked out in 2 weeks. Not a chance. No changes on my part.

I feel like I am being less then motivating :( I just am feeling sorry for myself this month now. It started off so grand and now I can barely stand straight! I am not on plan and oh my! I can't even participate in my own challenge! I am happy that you are all keeping with it and that at least my intentions haven't gone to waste :)

Keep shredding it!

I'm not quite ready to say I'm officially out. I'm down though! Fell down Saturday and smacked my tailbone. Ouch!

So my husband has been walking our driveway with me. Our driveway is a 1/4 mile long and a steep hill, so I'm doing something until my back heals up enough.

I'm still up for a March challenge though. Like Taebo or a Re-Shred!

Taking off today again.

Now the sinus drainage is making me cough. So I thought it best to take one more day.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be back at it. I really miss it.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Last week was exhausting -- crazy at work, disorganized at home, no sleep (thanks DD!) -- but I'm going to get back on the Shred-wagon this afternoon. :) I took the weekend "off" to re-evaluate, and now I'm ready to go again!

All of the snow is ruining my running schedule, though! I'm planning to do back-to-back 1/2 marathons in May, and now I'm down to 10 weeks of training. EEEEK! Time to work out a new plan!

Take it easy for sure :( I am afraid I am not living up to my own challenge either since I have be sick and now strep throat :( I am sure I am even up weight since I have Been into the junk and yes even sugar since I haven't felt 100%. No worries, I will get better am then back on track!

For the rest of you still hanging in there I am proud. Even if you are adjusting to fit what you can do, you are doing it and that is awesome! I am so glad that you are all shredding it up and making progress.

You all rock! Shine bright sparkles!

Boo hiss. I had my MRI yesterday on my back and good news and bad news. Bad news is 4 bulging discs. Good news - doesn't appear they've ruptured. Bad news - they are likely to rupture. Worse news - I'm not allowed to do Shred.

So rather than quit the challenge - I am going to self adjust for it. I'm banned from:
bending
twisting
jumping
pushups
running
bikes (more like spin classes - I made sure to clarify)

I was not allowed to do anything until I could get in for the MRI so I just did arm weights and walked. I think I gained 2 pounds.Argh.

So I'm putting it out there. The doctor was about as helpful as a box of chocolates on Valentines' Day. He said losing weight will help my back but - oh - don't do anything that will stress it. Huh?

Of the shred exercises - anyone do any that didnt stress your lower back?

keep up the great work guys! i have been sticking with level 1 since i'm already sore from all the running i've been doing... not to mention my little guy is sick and waking up 5 times a night crying and coughing, so i'm working on very little sleep. in the past being this tired, and stressed from the usual life stressors would lead to me giving myself an excuse not to exercise and to comfort eat. i am very happy to report that i have continued to exercise (i'm even doing my valentine's 5K today!), and have staying within my calorie range every day... here's to hoping i can keep it up :)

Taking a rest day today. When I woke up to work out (and all night long) my shoulders were pretty sore. I decided to sleep in and take a forced rest day. Forced because I know I can't make it up tonight because I'm donating blood this afternoon and won't be able to work out tonight.

Tomorrow, I'm back at it!

Yes, exactly!

The plank twists just feel wrong... after looking at them I decided I was doing it correctly. And the double-jumps are laughable; that's just not happening!

We are all going to look fabulous by spring, though!!!!

I felt a little awkward too. Honestly day 2 felt a little less awkward.

I found if I didn't try to watch them when I was doing it, I felt less so. I think I needed to look at myself and see that I did look like they did.

I still hate the jumping jacks and the double jump rope forget double. Maybe if I had an actuall jump rope. I can't seem to coordinate the higher jump with faster arm movements. I love the skaters though. And I do love the pushups at the beginning.

What about the oblique plank twists at the end. I still don't think I got them right. I never feel like I'm pulling my abs in when I do a plank like that. I think it's my saggy belly skin. If I'm not moving I can feel it but when I twist I just can't tell if I'm pulling my abs in tight. Sane thing with the plank jacks.

I can definitely feel a difference in my strength though. I'm going to have some seriously sculpted arms by summer.

I found level 2 just to be awkward. I didn't feel like I was doing the exercises correctly, though I think I was. Just weird!

Got up did my 1 mile (10:27) and did level 2 again.

I wasn't sure if I would be able to since I just did it last night, but my partner and I got in the hot tub for about 15 minutes last night and I think that helped a LOT. It wasn't too bad this morning. It's definitely a lot more high intensity.

I forgot to do my extra crunches when I was done so I'll have to do them tonight.

OMG I think I just had my a$$ handed to me by Jillian.

Wow...level 2 is definitely a step up!

Nothing wrong with not moving on until you're ready. I think it's safer that way anyway instead of trying to move on and do more complicated moves. Do what ever you need to, afterall, it's still a workout no matter what level you're at.

it might sound a bit crazy, but i can honestly say that i already see changes in my body in only a week of shredding! keep in mind that i have a rather significant layer of chub covering all of my muscles, and it seems even more amazing that i can see serious biceps (we're talking about the beginnings of a real gun show here ;) already and its only been just over a week of shredding! i can't wait to see the results that we can all achieve after a month (and at this point i'm thinking of continuing long after the 30 days).
thanks again to you all for being so inspiring to me every day!!

Yes, it was SOOOO hard today! After shoveling for hours yesterday and then snowshoeing today... I was spent! I didn't even try last night, because my arms were just dead weight. Hah!

I"m starting to notice some progress, though my weight is still the same. This week I really need to focus on nutrition, and watch the snacks!

so odd that the shred was nearly impossible today, even though it should be getting easier, but i know that the snow is to blame... shovelling for an hour and a half takes a toll on the biceps and back muscles!! but i made it through at least :)
now on to the hard truth: i am going to eat poorly today. its a fact. i have already entered my food in my tracker, so hopefully i can stick to that - there are 4 things that i wouldn't normally eat while watching my calories, so i've decided that i'm going to have 2 of them in moderation. i did loads of cardio this weekend to be proactive, and am hoping that i will still see a hefty loss this week. we are having our closest friends over for a birthday celebration, so there will be cupcakes, pasta, fresh bread and lots of wine and beer. so i've prioritized, and i'm going to have some wine and some delicious goat cheese pasta primavera (that i'm cooking so i can control the ingredients that go into it) and hopefully be able to resist the bread and cupcakes... wish me luck!

Shred done today. No run yet. Supposed to warm up to about 44 today so I'm going to do my Valentines' Day 5K later.

We didn't get to bowl last night because we didn't check and they had leagues so we went and had a horribly delicous and high calorie dinner and an Italian restaurant that I haven't been to in years. It was just as good as I remember. And then we went back to the inlaws to play Oh Hell.

So the partner and I are going to bowl a few games this morning.

I'm guessing that we got somewhere between 2.5-3 feet, though it's hard to tell because of the drifts. It was thigh-high on the deck, and my feet weren't on the ground...

I posted a great picture on my page that shows the depth... I'll post it here too.

Sun is shining here and I want to go run but we're going bowling and need to leave soon so there's not enough time. I hope this weather continues tomorrow.

So how much snow have you gotten?

After a long bout of shoveling... I don't know if I'm going to make it today! I'm going to rest a while, and then see how it goes!

Nearly 2 hours, and all I did was the deck and the front steps! Aiyeee!!!!!

All done for today!

I sat and watched level 2 after I was done to see what I was in for since I didn't remember. Looks like I'll have to move to doing it in the basement. We live in an old house (1927) and I'm not sure jumping around is going to work on the first floor, even in the new addition.

No problem though, we have a tv and dvd player down there. I just have to reconfigure the treadmill and gazelle (that never gets used). I should have plenty of space.

I'm more worried about my coordination or lack of. LOL I think it will take me a few days to get it down to where I feel like I'm doing it right.

Done for today!! I started level 2, and it wasn't too bad. Natalie starts to get sassy, which I enjoy. :)

Best Jillian quote "You probably think I'm a crazy person by now!" Um, yes. But we love her anyway!

Then I did 40 minutes on the elliptical, so hopefully I worked out the kinks!

Now I'm going to enjoy being snowed in for the weekend and watch some princess movies with my Punkin!!

Day 8 done! And another mile in 10:14 today! YAY!

I need to get outside. I realized I signed up for a virtual 5k for next week so now I have to fit that in...I'd love to do it outside. I think Sunday is my only chance for that, but I think it was supposed to be a Valentines Day race. Can't remember.

I feel REALLY good today. Oh and I've been Anita doing pushups for months! I tried to be what'shername the other day. I did 5. And I have muscles. I just need to keep working at it. They are getting easier, I think. I need to watch Level 2 this weekend to mentally prepare for Monday! I did it once and I barely remember it.

I don't know what happened to me this morning but I feel really good. The endorphins must be hanging around longer or something. I think I could have flown to work on my own power today. Maybe this doing it everyday is a good thing.

woohoo! shred done in the afternoon and a PB 5K jog tonight after the munchkins were tucked into bed - on the dreaded treadmill no less! i am dying to get outside to run, but not any time soon thanks to yet another huge snowfall on its way... i already feel stronger, and even the pushups are getting easier (although i am still only anita, i can do 20 of them without face planting now!)

I've been really bad about checking in with my progress but fear not - I have been doing shred. My only day that I missed was Saturday due to a long day trip in a truck.

The back is still really sore and I fear level 2 will have burpees - which I think should be called barfies - but that is just me.

I decided today to switch it up and do my spin dvd before shred and maybe that will help with the knee issues I've been having with the jumping jacks.

And I still believe Jillian is the devil...

Day 7 done and my best mile to date.

I know I can run faster outside. Or our treadmill is in need of calibration. It's probably the latter. At any rate I know my mile will be a lot faster outside if I'm running in under 11 minutes on the treadmill.

I'm actually starting to not mind the treadmill as much. I've embraced the fact that my pace is weird and that I have to make adjustments. I prefer to do intervals because watching the time and changing speed every couple minutes make time fly. Not much time to do those now since I like to workout before work and I'm NOT getting up any earlier that 5AM. I may do an interval this weekend though. I'm in need of a longer run.

Shred is going great. I actually took a picture of my stomach last night because I swear it looks different in just 7 days and I want to see. I should have taken one last week but I didn't think I'd see much difference because losing a total of 100 lbs leaves some loose skin, but I'm seeing something different.

I really hope I see some improvement in my droopy butt! I did not and WILL NOT take a before picture of that. It's frightening and I will definitely notice if there's a difference. LOL

I did 2 miles on the treadmill this morning, which I think is the equivalent of 8 outside. No? emoticon

I started using 5 lb weights last night, and I'm definitely feeling it more this morning! Whew! But not as bad as I thought; I'm not as sore as I was after day 1.

Hah, Paula, I think we have the same strategy this winter! I also *strongly dislike* the treadmill, but I'm using it this winter to try to improve my mile time. I think it's working, though I haven't been able to run outside to test it much!

Done for today! I hit the gym this morning, and did the Shred this afternoon after work.

DH thinks I'm obsessed. Boys...

I hate, ok hate is a strong word, extremely dislike running on the treadmill. But we have one and I don't like running outside if it's below freezing. Besides not everyone cleans their sidewalks so it's safer.

I am getting better on the treadmill though. I must have an odd pace because it's hard for me sometimes to keep up but then I can speed up with no problem.

I'm using this winter in knock some time off my mile and it seems to be working, Can't wait to get outside and see how it goes.

Have a good night! I'm off to relax with my kindle and then watch a bit of tv with my partner.

i am honestly so happy to have committed to this challenge (thanks VP for the great idea!!). i can talk myself out of pretty much anything, and fitting in cardio and weights has seemed almost impossible. i'm not running as much as i'd like (i HATE the treadmill and outside is not an option in ontario right now!), but i know that i'm at least doing something productive every day. i'm definitely in for another fitness challenge next month! i'm also trying to schedule in a 5K for march, a 10K by summer and i'm really hoping to be ready for a half marathon in november!

I'm actually enjoying this much more then I thought that I would. I used to get the shin splits when I ran regularly too. Its just something I work with. I can't wait till the spring when I can start running again, since I refuse the treadmill and the cold now I will just have to wait till then. So I will be pushing on with this for the 30days and then we shall see what else I can challenge myself to do. Maybe some p90x or the extreme shed and shred :o)

I guess because I had already been working out 6 days a week I'm not seeing any change in sleep or appetite.

I was concerned about losing more at the start of this and so I've upped my calories and rarely find myself hungry and sometimes I just feel like I can't eat again. Crazy I know. I'm actually looking at my daily caloried differential report everyday to make sure I'm eating at least what I'm burning. Normally around 1800 calories. That's a 300 calorie increase for me in just a couple weeks. I could easily eat a candy bar and get that but I don't want to. Cereal has become my friend at night. LOL

I also have started eating more for my post workout snack. That seems to help. I try to eat just about as many calories as SP says I burned. I never thought I'd have this tough of a time with maintenance. At least not worrying about losing too much. My Dr is already paranoid that something is wrong and wants blood tests so I can't lose any more or she will strangle me.

I really wish that I was sleeping better after starting this. I am a bit more tired but I still don't sleep great. I wake up at least 2 times each night.

I think you're right, that it's time to increase the weights! I've been using 3 lb weights too, and should probably bump up to 5 as well. (Except for anterior raises... I can't do those with more than 3 lbs yet!)

Who else is sleeping like a rock this week? emoticon

I'm also hungrier than usual, especially at night. I need to make sure to have extra fruits around, so I don't make bad choices!

Finished day 6 this morning.

I run before I do it. After is impossible because my legs are jello on the treadmill. Try that.

I have done level 2 once. It's not too horrible actually from what I remember. Today I used 5lb weights for everything except the anterior raises wit the side lunge. Even though I can do anterior raises with a 5 lb weight for 3 or 4 sets of 25 for some reason I have difficulty doing them combined with the lunges. So I dropped to 3 lbs for that one. I considered doing the static lunges and bicep curls with 3 too because sometimes 5 kills me, but today I was fine.

I'm finding myself doing more stretches later in the day. I KNOW Jillian says no static stretches when you're not warmed up but sometimes I just need it. And it feels so good. I've not had any problems with my shins at all but maybe it's because I'm a runner. I don't think I've ever had shin splints since I started running in May.

As much as I want to smack Jillian in the face sometimes, I'm finding that I'm really excited everyday to get up and get it done.

I'm thinking for March I will do the same kind of thing using the new SP video I just got. Maybe not an everyday thing though because I honestly miss my longer runs so much. Last night I got on the treadmill for another 2 miles after dinner because I just felt like I was missing something. I didn't push so I wouldn't be too tired for this morning. I ran the first mile in under 11 but then really slowed for the rest. It was nice.

Have a great day everyone!

Day 5 -- DONE! DD exercised with me last night... so cute to watch her attempt to do jumping jacks!

I'm so much less sore today, it's fantastic! I've been running and biking, and I think that's worked out a lot of the kinks.

When are we cranking it up to level 2? Is there an actual plan for that? I was thinking that I'd try it this Friday, and then alternate levels 1 and 2 for a week. The following Friday, I'll try level 3, and then alternate all 3 levels for the remainder of the 30 days.

I'd say we're all doing well.

I'm actually headed to run on the treadmill. I've just been running a mile each day before doing the shred and I miss my runs. I've been running about 12 miles or more a week and I'm really missing it.

So off I go!

i forgot to add to my measurements my weight at the beginning of the shred...
its not a pretty sight...
after only a few days off of the wagon, i went up significantly - unfortunately for me my body fluctuates up to 10 lbs a week upwards if i don't eat at the lower end of my calorie range every day... fortunately i can also drop almost that same amount in a week if i work really hard. i'm assuming its just a combination of wacky metabolism and water retention.
so i started the shred at my current 242... here's to hoping i can drop some serious numbers in both inches and pounds with this shred!!

Day 5 done, rested yesterday. Knee is feeling ok. Still not feeling much soreness in my abs.
Of course one of the big places I want to see change. My legs I can definitely feel a difference.

I don't think it's your imagination either. When I started really working my arms, I saw a difference pretty quickly.

Have a great day!

Day 5: Not sore this morning when I woke up. I still don;t like getting up early thou, make me so cranky by the end of the day. Shred was easier today and still sweating up a storm. It might be my imagination but I think I am feeling the tightening effects already!

Happy Tuesday!

I took a rest day yesterday -- well, from the Shred, I still did cardio -- because timing was an issue. Mondays and Wednesdays are going to be tough, because I pick up DD after work and don't get home until late.

I'll figure something out... maybe I could exercise at my Mom's house, since DD is usually still napping when I get there? Hmmm...

Today I'll be exercising first thing when I get home... I don't want to wait too long!

My knee has been bugging me off and on today so I'm glad I rested today. If my headache goes away I am good to go tomorrow.

Your all doing great and take care!

No injuries allowed so modify as you need so that you can still do it.

I ate extremely bad all weekend and now it is time to refocus so I can see the results of all this punishment....lol!

Kind of a catch up here as I was gone almost all day Saturday and then had people show up unexpectedly on Sunday and stay waaaaaaay too long.

Day 2 - Could barely walk back was so bad. Riding 4 hours in a truck and helping to move a wood stove probably not ideal. We didn't get back until 8 pm so was not up to shredding that late - with husband as an audience.

Day 3 - Shred done - with husband as an audience. (At least he tried to keep a straight face.) Back was pretty bad during squats with weights but modified so pain was tolerable.

Will do Day 4 later today.

How about just trying wall pushups? They are and even more modified version and they still work. Or even doing them at more of an incline.

Try that and see if it works. Once you get stronger you can change.
