I agree Meri about including something in your signature about where you are from. Many like to keep it totally anonymous but you can keep it that way with just the province or state if you wish. I find it particularly helpful in discussions on the weather in a person's area - it means nothing to say it's warm and sunny if you don't know where they are reporting from - it's just a wasted comment.

No changes in my salt intake as low as possible. I've already said that.

Had to comment on your signature - giving the state where you are - love it - don't think I have seen that before - hope others take it up - makes messages more personal somehow.
Thanks, Meri

I can really feel it when I get 1500 mg in a day. I'm pretty sure that if even got close to 2000 mg my head would explode! I'd really love to see the science behind this...

I KNOW that consuming a minimal amount of sodium helped me reduce my blood pressure. It also helped my weight and I just felt better. I kept to under 1200 mg for the better part of a year. If I had something salty, I knew it affected me within hours with swelling ankles. NOW that I got it under control I am able to have more and not be affected. I know it is something that I will be sensitive to and watch always. I will never let it go over 2,000 mg. I bet we see another study negating that one.

Thank you for sharing. I love the food network chefs, and I have tried some of there recipes
I omit the salt and add other spices. You can adjust the recipes to meet your own needs.
I also do not use frozen diners or canned soup the salt content is unbelievable. My problem is if I go out to eat you get tired of salads. I'll just keep trying my best.

No changes for me either, Sparkers - I have learned just what you have - salt for me equals fluid retention, exhaustion - breathlessness so bad I find it painful to walk across the room. As much as I love the chefs on the FoodNetwork I shudder at the amount of salt they add to their dishes - for flavoring. When I first had to cut to 1400 mgs I was about to buy my normal frozen dinners. Didn't want to take the time to prepare my own food - I was astonished that at that time there were no frozen dinners appropriate for low salt eating. There are more and more websites providing low salt recipes - but be careful what they mean when they say "low salt" We have to be our own guardians of our diets and do what we know is good for each of us. We have to read the labels! Thanks for your vigilance and I hope you will keep sharing - Blessings, Meri

They'll be no changes for me I struggle to keep mine below 2000 mg. On occasion I may hit 1500. I'll just keep trying to keep it low. Salt is no good for me to many health problems.

I know. I'm appalled at how many mg of sodium are in anything. I'm new to this SparkTeam but I joined as that's the one category on my food tracker page that is almost always over and I'd like to get it down. I'm glad this SparkTeam is available.

that sucks! A Costco hotdog or a ham steak puts me in heart failure. If I consume more than 1200 mg in a day I'm in real trouble - fluids build up around my lungs and heart, in my lungs, in my extremities and in my upper abdomen; I gain weight; I'm exhausted with little effort; I gasp for breath, I can't think clearly; and I'm unsteady on my feet. It's hard enough now to get no salt added items. A couple of days ago I made homemade marinara sauce using no added salt tomatoes and tomato paste and one serving still has 150 mgs of sodium. Without no sodium added ingredients it would be around 600 mg of sodium per serving.

Anybody see the evening news about new salt guidelines out today? The WebMD article I saw said the following: "The safest range? Between 2,645 and 4,945 mg of salt a day, the study authors said. And most of the world's populations consume that amount, according to background information in the study. " Article at:http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/news/

or-good-health-study-suggests I haven't been told to cut my salt, but there is so much salt in prepared foods that I've been working on cutting down. This won't help make more "no salt added" products available, I'm afraid.
