Well, pulled up the tomato plants that were pretty much done, going to do the same for the corn-getting ready to pick the rest of the peas and get some fall seedlings started.
Hope everyone is well.

The rain has put a delay in the watermelon crop this year. Have had too much rain and too little sunshine. Hope to start pulling one day this week.

One of my friends at church, who has a full-on farm along with the vegetable garden for himself and his wife, can't stop saying "even the radishes died" every time someone brings up the rain. At my ex-husband's apartment, his exterior stairs washed out. Crazy year.

I've given up on my garden for this year. Between the endless rain, the deer, my being behind anyway, and the fact that my house is for sale, I'm just totally unmotivated this year. I'm gonna plant some fall crops in a garden at my church and look forward to next year...

Yesterday I weeded for about 3 hours, fixed the solar lights for my daughter's front bed, then planted dahlias in between them (started these from seed 2 years ago and they've been doing great. I put them in pots so they are growing fine until we are ready to plant them in the ground. With dividing them, we now have over 60 and have to look for more places to plant them)
Today I had to transplant the remaining dahlias so they weren't as crowded in the pots. Have to dig the daffodil bulbs out of the front bed and reshape it, then the remaining dahlias go there in addition to bushes, etc.

Garden is too wet after all the rain, but I did hang some pantyhose with deodorant soap (dial gold) inside along the fence at the garden plots to help keep the deer out. Also sprayed more Hinder on the tomatoes, peppers, beans, and sweet potatoes so if the deer do get in and nibble, they won't like the taste and hopefully will decide to go somewhere else to eat.

Attempted to turn over the compost today; it's difficult because it's in bins. I think I need to rethink my compost set-up. Maybe let them get a head-start in the black plastic bins, then move it to an open pile I can turn regularly?

Picked strawberries (almost done for the season) and mulberries. I make low-sugar mulberry jam, which tastes a lot like grape. Lots of seeds though, but I try to strain out most of them.

Planted corn and pumpkins, and surrounded other sections with marigolds and nasturtium to help attract beneficial insects and hopefully repel a few harmful ones. Wish I could have done more, still have more to plant but storms hit so will have to wait a couple days until it dries out again. But I'm making progress, even though it has been a very wet spring here.

Today I weeded pretty fiercely, as well as pulled some less-than stellar summer squash plants that just weren't acting right.
I'm planting my late summer garden (staggering the spring garden planting, actually) I live in Central Florida so the growing season is almost year round-then after I finish the last of the okra and peas I can get around to the fall garden.
I'm busy everyday with the garden or the animals-love it!

Picking strawberries daily (bumper crop this year - hardly got any last year). Got sweet potatoes and red potatoes planted today, beans and onions planted yesterday. Garden is now about half planted - late start due to all the rain and having to wait for the ground to dry up enough to plant. Hopefully will be able to finish it all this week.

Another hour weeding the strawberry bed and picking another quart of strawberries. One more hour should get rid of the last of the creeping charlie, grasses, and other weeds, then hopefully I'll do better at keeping it weeded until I figure out where to relocate it.

I soaked my seeds last night and planted them this morning. I planted yellow wax beans and purple snap beans. I'm feeling a little iffy about it all. I planted them in bags of soil and the soil is really chunky, not fluffy at all, so we'll see how it goes. I had no qualms about planting in bags, it's just the texture of the soil that gives me pause.

spent 3 hours weeding the strawberry bed and picking strawberries before the birds get them all (then put a net over it like I should have a week ago)! Yes, the bed is that overgrown and weedy - lots of creeping charlie where you have to pull every piece of root and stem or it just comes back, as well as grass that also spreads by runners. Need to move the whole bed, but don't know where to put it yet.

Saturday worked in the rose bed. Going to add lilies there tonight. Also worked in my north shade bed; added lacy bleeding hearts, ferns, something I don't know the name of (but tall), coleus. Friday worked in the cottage bed and added liatris, daisies, cosmos, daylilies, purple conflower, zinnias I grew from seed, dug up a dead rose, cleaned out some Kentucky bluebells, making room for more of the same. Today I added tomatoes, cilantro, and marigold to two huge container gardens that are serving as nurseries until my husband gets the vegetable garden rototilled (may not happen this year). This week will plant irises, garden phlox, columbine in foundation bed, zinnias and yarrow I started from seed in my cottage garden, and more bleeding hearts in shade garden.

I spent the past week or two planting obedient plants, four o'clocks, sedum, violets, another perennial I don't know the name of that has tiny purple flowers, daylilies, pansies, petunias, impatiens, bleeding hearts, and transplanted some rock cress in other places to balance it out because I can't find more rock cress around here. This was all around our new patio my husband put in last year. I also need to replace a rose that died over the winter around the patio. I'll be shopping for that later today.

Will be planting a rhubarb that I got for $1.00. Will return to the plant lady in my area, who sells her divided perennials real cheap to get rid of them, for another rhubarb, lilies, irises, and maybe more bleeding hearts.

Today, I added the tomatoes to my container gardens and will plant zinnias in my cottage garden. And shop as stated in above paragraphs for a rose and perennials.

This is not the year for vegetables. Not ready for that yet. We have a vegetable garden that my husband devoted to berries the past five years, but will return some of that to veggies this year or next.

Went out on Saturday and got 30 tomato plants, 14 bell peppers, 14 eggplants, and 6 sweet potatoes planted. On Sunday, we got all the cages put up around them as well as spread grass around and between the plants. Today is weeding the next section so we can plant beans, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, and more sweet potatoes, then planting marigolds around them, with onions and carrots planted between the marigolds.

Checked the garden plots we rent from the park district. Still too wet to plant. And too late to put in peas, watermelon, or cantaloupe at this stage, so we're reconfiguring the planned setup. If we don't get more rain (or at least not very much), we can hopefully get the plants set in sometime during the week. Did some landscaping at the church building, with more planned for Saturday as well as one more flower bed being renovated next week sometime.
Plenty of weeding to do in the flower beds at home in the meantime.

Raining here today but worked out there most of the day yesterday :-) Planted zucchini squash and sweet peas. Moved a couple strawberry plants to make more room. Pulled a few weeds and added soil conditioner.

My English Daisies have sprouted...I am hoping this rain doesn't was them away.:-)

BTW..I sprinkled baking soda on the cabbage.. I don't recommend it..it made the leaves turn brown and didn't get rid of the worms.

I went out this morning and turned on the soaker hose, and then stood and watered the other beds. Everybody looks happy and growing like weeds, if you'll pardon the expression!

Too wet to plant any veggies, may be a week or more before we can get in there. Did buy some more flowers for my large pots and will be doing more transplanting of the plants I have into larger pots tomorrow, then attempting to do some weeding and plant flowers in some of the beds that aren't totally saturated.

Transplanted all my vegetable plants into larger pots, since it will probably be at least a week before we can plant them in the garden. Got another inch of rain today! Thinking of pricing gopher wood and starting to build a large boat in our backyard!
