The garden plots are still to wet to get in and plant anything, so as I wait for them to dry out, I plotted out exactly what is going to be planted where. Hoping it stays warm and dry for a couple of days so I can set out my plants and possibly get some seeds in as well (have to wait until the surface is dry enough or else the soil will crust over and the seedlings, especially beans, will end up breaking as they try to break through the surface).

If it's to be, it's up to ME.

Got the garden plots sectioned off before it started to rain yesterday. Now that the fence is up, we can start planting.
The other day when we were driving in the fence posts, 9 deer came out of the brush and watched us. Not even scared at all. One came up within 30 feet of where we were working and was rubbing on the fence posts and nibbling on the string we used to keep the fence straight (the others stayed about 60 to 100 feet away), still very close considering all the noise we were making)! So needless to say, we had to wait for the fence to be up or we would just be feeding that herd of deer.
Yesterday we were visited by 5 deer, and the one young buck once again was right at the fence watching us and sniffing the fence!

I spent 4 hours heavy cleaning...laundry and cleaning out storage room, hauling summer clothes upstairs, etc and then 2 hours pulling blackberry brambles...so far...rain chased me inside when it became a torrential downpour.

gathering seedlings and soil for a friends new garden...Funny thing happened this week...for those with tumbler type composters...Have you ever added new composted and begun to turn it and find you never latched the door ...all of my composting materials ended up on the grounds! HA HA...I laughed thought how silly and decided to be more alert as I shoveled it all back into the bin... I know..no one else has ever done that before , right?

sifted 40 gallons of stuff from my compost bin. 15 gallons of finished compost spread on the flower beds. Spread the unfinished compost on the garden beds, which will then be dug in and planted, hopefully by this weekend.

Rain would be nice. Getting a little sick of the cold and snow here. Not a lot, just enough to keep me inside starting a few more seeds and transplanting others that are getting too big and are not happy at all.

Spent about 3 hours working in the yard today - emptying and then moving the compost bin (still have to sift the compost to remove any larger bits that aren't broken down yet), mowing, sweeping up all the fallen magnolia petals and putting them in the compost bin, breaking all the trimmed branches into smaller pieces that will fit in my outdoor firepit as kindling, and then sweeping the patio where the branches had been. Felt great to be able to work in the yard again. Supposed to rain tomorrow, but if it holds off I will be turning over the garden to get it ready to plant.

As it ended up, Momma had gone and bought some dirt for her raised garden so I helped her spread the dirt and plant her flower garden. She also had bought some butterfly bushes so I set them out. Then she had some pruning she wanted me to do. since it is nice and sunny outside today, I didn't mind doing these things for her.

As I said earlier, am going to do laundry and water my stuff later on this afternoon. Really enjoyed helping Momma this afternoon. She can't wait for the flowers to come up. I had to remind her that it takes time.

Supposed to be in the 60s here also. I have already put together Momma's raised bed and put ground cloth underneath it. Have not put the soil in it yet. Am planning on setting out some strawberry plants in my topsy turveys and some other plants in pots. Am also getting ready to put the soil in my pots for my cucumbers and squash. Going to Lowe's sometime today and get a few things. Am planning on having fun today.

Supposed to be in the 60s today. Chance of rain later, so I will be finishing up raking leaves, etc. out of the remaining beds and cleaning out the large flower pots (sifting the dirt to remove any remaining root clumps - which go in the compost bin. then adding finished compost to the dirt and refilling the pots). Also if the weather holds I will be sifting out the contents of the compost bin for the first time this year. Any remaining compost after I finish filling the pots is going to be spread on the perennial flower beds in back.

If it's to be, it's up to ME.

I ordered two tomato and two green pepper plants from Seed Savers yesterday. Today I put soil in plant tray containers and wet them down so I can plant the seeds in them tomorrow. I am mostly planting flowers in this batch but also some flat leaf Italian parsley. I planted some of that a couple of weeks ago and already I wish I had more. I'd like to actually go out and get as much as I want without stripping the plant. Ditto with basil. I bought them last year and it was too expensive. So I'm planting from seed this year.

Did not do anything physical but mentally I was all over it. Estimated how many bags of soil I was going to have to get tomorrow along with some strawberry plants to be put in my topsy turvy that my brother and his family gave me for Christmas. I later went back and got another one so that I will have a Junebearing and a day-neutral (everbearing) one. Will set these out tomorrow after I get home from Lowe's.

Bushes I ordered arrived. Too early to plant them so I repotted them in large pots until I am able to plant outdoors. Also finishing starting seeds indoors so they will be ready to transplant when the time comes (except for the ones that need to be started only 3 to 4 weeks before planting outdoors).
I also am doing this as one of the team goals that are listed below the message forums, so I checked that off for today on my "other goals" page.

I've already started my squash indoors. I purchased a rain barrel today. I can't wait to assemble it and start using it.

I watered my indoor herb garden : ) I'm waiting on the late snow to melt to move things outdoors.

I put my sweet potatoes in soil so I can grow some slips to transplant into the garden when it is time. They were leftover sweet potatoes that I had grown 2 years ago actually, and some were quite small. But they sprouted over the winter and I figured why not try and plant them anyway?

I'm in zone 5 near Chicago, so it will be another 2 months before it will be safe for me to transplant these or any other tender plants like peppers and tomatoes into the garden, as I plant too many to be able to cover them in case of a chance of late frost.

This has been added to the team goals, but you can also report WHAT you did here. It would be great to know what people are able to do in different areas at the same time.

This includes ANYTHING gardening related. It could be reading an article, ordering plants or seeds, starting seeds, transplanting, setting up a cold frame or compost bin, weeding, planting, pruning, picking, you name it.

Please include your zone or area where you live.

If it's to be, it's up to ME.
