Here’s a future challenge suggestion that I also want to give to my 5% challenge team mates: Eat all your meals this week at a table without any diversion to technology (unless is happens to be soft music in the background that qualifies for quality ambiance). No television; no Internet surfing; no smart phones, tablets, netbooks, laptops, and computers, and no reading books or the mail. The idea here is to concentrate fully on the food that you are eating without having something nearby to lend itself to mindless eating. For those of you are working (home or office), if you’re interrupted by a visitor, call, or technological interruption, that must be answered, then stop eating fully (no chewing) in order to put your full attention on the task at hand before returning to your full-time meal or snack.

This would likely be the most challenging challenge to the one we had that allowed for no JUNK food in my last 5% challenge. I see a lot of murmuring and grumbling with this one, but a well-learned lesson in that we often eat mindlessly without thinking. Hello?!?

I might say that it's hard to do any one tough lesson longer than a few days or one week, so doing it for a whole month would probably just mean people would be apt to drop out in failure and I would so not like to see people be so easily discouraged. This would mean each week is a new challenge with new reward winners.

This is the first time I noticed this page. I am afraid i started at 296 and ended up at 293. With a lot of ups and downs in between. I got off to eating something sweet every day rather than as a special treat. I have been hurting too bad to exercise and I suffered from a bad episode of vertigo that lasted a whole month. But I am feeling better now and ready to buckle back down and eat healthier. I need to get back to drinking my water also. Thanks to all of you for your encouragement. Sorry I kind of slacked off here at the end.

Well, I still don't have a semblance of a grip on things, I am not giving up. I am moving a little more now. We've had a couple sunny days and that has made it a little easier. I'm rethinking several things about my goals. My final goal remains the same, but I'm thinking about how I got off track so it doesn't happen so often or last so long. I must get back to water. I was really enjoying it, but now not drinking enough. I have fallen so far so fast. My new habits were apparently not as ingrained as I thought. I went from not being particularly tempted off my plan, to completely folding. I think my occasional eating off-plan went to often and then to always. I started doing things I hadn't done in the 6 months I had been on Spark. I don't want to just get back on track, I want to be firm in all the reasons I want to be on my plan. Thanks for all your help.

Without a whole lot of thought every day I drink about a gallon of water, do something that fits within the guidelines of fitness minutes, and have tracked my food (even when I go way over by days end) for the last three or four years. While very worthy goals, they did not challenge me to new heights. But what thorough got me off course was turning some healthy foods into trigger foods and allowing the post holiday candy sales to attract me. Perhaps doing all three at once (while staying within the recommended ranges we or SparkPeople have set for ourselves) would make me think a little more.

While we could all be on differing programs (you name it, there's probably a SparkTeam for it), it may be a little more difficult to measure weekly challenge that have us eliminate or limit such things as junk food, sugars (beyond the recommended 2 tsp/8 grams a day), refined white flour, artificial sweeteners, soda pop, fried foods or encouraging such eating behaviors as incorporating one meatless day, eating 5-9 freggies (fruits and veggies), meet or exceed 25 grams of fiber, no adding of salt (at the table) to properly prepared foods, etc. I'm trying to move more towards whole foods. These are some personal goals I'd like to achieve, but they're not for everyone.

I believe that setting a goal that makes us want to groan a little can be a GOOD thing as it takes us out of our comfort zone and think of food in a new light. I'd like to think I could strive to practice one healthy habit for at least one week. As long as we know in advance what the challenge is all about, we can choose to join if it meets our nutritional/fitness goals.

Rewards are a most pleasant bonus! I loved that this last challenge encouraged us to check each others pages out and send some messages of encouragement. In some cases, new friendships are forged in the process.

I can so relate. The time between Thanksgiving and Christmas did me in. I hit the wall physically and just didn't care any more what I ate. Now, I am paying for it. I am working on getting back into the right frame of mind.

Ah, yes! I feel your pain (and this comes from food-a-holic experience!). Halloween came and went but it was the after sales that got me to stock up on my hubby's favorites with a few of mine for good measure . . . then, over a long but stead time frame, I gradually got into them, became guilt ridden, then simply want to eat the entire house, all the time (so to speak). My, what a vicious cycle of bad habits that can develop all too quickly. My goal now is to return to whole foods: Use something stick-to-the-ribs filling when I feel like eating the whole house. For starters, my "go-to" foods will be creamy oatmeal and watermelon (or other freggies). At least when I get full, I will learn that it comes with fewer calories that may actually fit within my upper ranges just fine!

Wishing everyone a Merry Third Day of Christmas and a life-changing (for the healthy) New Year!

I guess I should have come here, too. I have had a terrible time this month. I haven't really even tried to stay on my plan. I've eaten candy given to me as gifts. That led to buying candy to give as gifts and eating any leftover and there was a lot left over. I feel sick to my stomach right now from eating cherry cordial kisses. Please pray for me that I get a grip. Thanks.

Oops . . . I bought a trigger food item in bulk (deluxe mixed nuts with sea salt) that I had intended to be a gift when I changed my gift to a homemade jar of conserve I had made. Between the added fat, salt, and calories, my weight it up a bit. I'm not going to beat myself up, but I sure wish I could stick to my determination to stay within my desired, healthy BMI.

We all have the ability to lose 1-2 lbs per week with our determined diligence to adhere to our goals. Let's hope we don't all wait until all else fails. Our Father wants to help us when we give it up in prayer.

Made in the image of God by our creator, this time the glory is his as I maintain a healthy BMI for over a year.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (AMP)
(19) Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own,
(20) You were bought with a price [purchased with a [a]preciousness and paid for, [b]made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.

We have so much to celebrate. I love seeing all the exercising and perseverence. Does anyone have a verse to share that is helping keep going on?
