FITGIRL and Julie, I am similar in height and weight, too, as I am 5'2", and weigh 137. I have lost 4 pounds since the beginning of January. Today, my family and I went out for a brisk walk up and down hills in the park in the cold, but it was a sunny. emoticon emoticon

fitgirl - we are close in size and goals. I am 5'0 and at 139 this morning (I started at 169) - Doctor's goal for me is 125 my goal is 120. I have been committed (for the last 6 weeks) to a minimum of 15 minutes/day. This way I meet my goals for My 5 Minute Daily Challenge and my 10 Minute Daily Challenge. Often this works into 20 or 30 Minutes.

Favorite Exercise so far -- love my treadmill

I have about 30 pounds to lose too. I am 5'3" 157 as of yesterday. My goal is 124.

What if we challenge ourselves to get in 20 minutes of exercise every day? It could be cardio or it could be strength.

PKJONES - I am new and could use a "buddy" too. I am 48 and only 5 feet tall. I weigh 147 and have (according to my doctor) 30 pounds to lose. So, we are not quite the same shape, but I do find that mutal accountability combined with mutual encouragement can be quite effective.

I could really use a spark buddy who is in the same shape as me who can keep me on task.

I am 50 years old I weight 200 pounds and I am 5 ft 8 inches. I am in fairly good shape for a 50 year old. I would love to loose at least 50 pounds.

I wound love to loose a pound or 2 a week.

Lovingwife - did you got to the weigh in forum and post your weight there? This is the only place that I look for weekly stats to post in our newsletter.

Anyway - I am thinking about starting a new body building program. I tried Jamie Eason's once but injuring myself. This one looks doable and is a fat loss program. Has anyone else ever tried this?

What about we make an "Accountability Friend Board" where people can match up with someone in the team that has similar goals (body type/height/amount of weight to lose/other goals/etc.)? I know that I would like that very much.

For instance, we could post our stats and then other team members can browse and "friend" those that are similar to them.

Here's mine:

Height: 5'9"
Current weight: 168
Goal weight: 140
Other goal: run a 5k in less than 45min 3x per week
Other goal: incorporate relaxation techniques into my daily life to control anxiety
Other goal: eat balanced meals according to the daily nutritional guidelines while staying within my SP recommended allotments.

March is going to be a bit of a challenge but interesting. I'm going to start my 5k training, on a treadmill when its too cold/snowy out - and around the high school track on good days. I have to do the track running, my hubby wants to join and with two kids we have to keep our eye on them!! The kids will either join in or play soccer or something... I'll take a blanket and snacks for them!
But this first week will be just a waiting game, time cut short because of other things, so no training till next week.

I don't want to stop using the eliptical either, so I'm going to have to work on a routine, to fit in the running, eliptical and strength training! GAH!

It will be nice to change it up a bit, I just don't want to end up doing LESS than I'm doing now with having to take days off for recovery etc.

For the record, you don't have to have a fit board or dance mat. I prefer to walk in my sneakers with the nunchuk in my pocket since I walk for longer periods of time.

Mall walking could be fun - especially with a fitness buddy! I too would be wary of that food court...darn pizza and chinese...smells so good.

I have Leslie Sansone videos too! I love them. My favorite is the 5 mile one..she has you walk 1 mile every day or you can do all 5 at once.

I hear ya'! I am really missing walking outside, but since I've lost 50 pounds of insulation, I am freezing all the time, lol. NOT that I'm complaining! Indoor walking is just as effective as outdoor walking, so do what you can do.

If you have a Wii, Walk it Out is an excellent indoor walking game that you can do at a slow or quick pace and kids can join in depending on how many remote/nunchuks you have. It's fun too!

Leslie Sansone is another good option for indoor walking. If you find a video that has multiple workouts on it (1 mile, 2 mile, 3 mile, etc.) even better. I got my first one from the library and then went out and bought a few more, lol. Leslie really puts together a great program no matter what your fitness level. The DVDs are pretty affordable too. I get mine at Target when they're on sale.

Hope you can get some mall-walking in soon. I've sworn off the malls until January because I can't stand the crowds, lol. I also have a hard time walking past the food court and smelling all the food. If I'm going to go, it has to be right after a filling lunch.

I wish i could do more walking outside, i have asthma and that cold air throws me into an asthma attack every time. I am trying to get my mom into coming and getting me and her and i go to the mall walking. She is wanting to walk so it is perfect and i can log that.

You are quite welcome! If you have an Ipod that has a built in pedometer, the Nike site is fun. It has a game that syncs up your pedometer steps/miles to an actual map of the world. You "visit" places and attractions by walking certain distances. I find it neat and it makes me want to go further when I know I'm "close" to something.

Now that you know how far you are walking, be sure to check out the November/December Walking Challenge for this team. You can log your miles which helps the team meet its goal.

thanks hon for those trackers. I wondered how long of a walk i was taking when i did my walks. It is 1.23 miles from my front door up my side of the road up to third street and then back down the other side of the road to sixth street and then back up to my front door. That was cool.

Both are good and help you know the distance you've traveled if you don't have a pedometer to track for you. Both are pretty accurate. What I like about Spark's is that you can calculate your calorie burn as well, and can make the route "round trip."

Nike's mapping program is neat too. I like that when mapping it follows the contours of the road and also allows you to go off-road. Nike also has a fun walking/mapping game that you can use if you have an Ipod with a built-in pedometer. Like in our challenge this month, you can have your walks applied to a map so you can walk virtually around the world. Here is a link for that game:

Another fitness tip ( I got this one from Kstyle at her blog site.

4. Sip green tea before a walk
The caffeine frees fatty acids so that you burn fat more easily. And the polyphenols (antioxidant compounds) in green tea appear to work with caffeine to increase calorie burn. (If you have high blood pressure, skip this tip.)
