I assumed you had already calculated the participation points into your per person average when posting to the team.

So your team at 222+ 10 points = 232/10 = 23.2

Pirates at 175 + 9 points = 184/8 = 23

So I stand corrected.

If I'm reading your stats correctly, Toby (I'm a little tired from a long day, so correct me if I'm wrong), I think we won this week by .2 points. Here's why:

"PARTICIPATION - This one is important. Because we are trying to keep motivation high, and the group relies on each member to help earn points, we are going to do the following.
Each week there is a possible 10 points for participation. Each member that does not participate and weigh in on Thursday (post points no later than Friday) will cause the group to lose 1 of those 10 points.
If any member does not participate 2 weeks in a row, they will no longer be part of the challenge."

So...

Hotties: 222 for a per person average of 22.2 (222/10) + 10pts participation = 32.2

Buccaneers: 184 for a per person average of 23 + 9pts participation = 32

Bargain Buccaneers:
average lbs: 1.125 lb/person (9/8)
average inches: 2.25 inches/person (18/8) We all thank Sherry for this one.

So bonus points for highest average lbs lost and inches go to Bargain Buccaneers.

So totals:

emoticon The old stuffed bear was to busy trying to use reverse psychology on the "verbal" irony that he obviously agrees to the brain damage as he certainly didn't refute it. Instead, he had to make sure that we all understood the difference and he was sure that we did not catch on to his misspelled words. Oh my, that booze is going to his head when he starts off on a tangent over the trivial. Just further proof of brain damage for this scurvy pirate.

It seems the snotties are definitely members of the illiterati. "Dain Bramage", Oh, how do I begin to educate you.

Dain Bramage is a prime example of the comedy technique verbal irony, in which the speaker intentionally makes his words mean the opposite of what the expected meaning would be. By scrambling the beginning of each word I was able to countermand my refutation of having brain damage. This technique differs from sarcasm because sarcasm often ridicules the subject spoken to, thus making verbal irony a less offensive technique.

Now back to the illiterate pirate talk.

According to Knoxville the rum was extra strong, so your drink was the watered down version of a truly sophistimicated comsopoliticy pirate drink.

Well my drink is much more sophisticated and is essentially a cosmopolitan. A drink commonly associated with the upper crust of society. A big difference from the watered-down mead or rum of uncivilized pirate-types.

Speaking of alcohol, I have a great drink that I just made up this weekend. The vodka isn't cheap, but IMO it's worth the extra money for good vodka.

1 part Grey Goose Pear
1 part raspberry seltzer water
serve over ice, or mixed in martini glass

Grey Goose has 69 calories for every ounce. Everything else, including the seltzer water is 0. The best part: since there's no carbs or sugars, there's no hangover, so you can still workout the next day :-) I added a few frozen raspberries for garnishment.

One of my more positive traits is to constantly keep learning new things. I thought, perhaps I should educate myself on what a pirate really is. So I went to the online source, Wikipedia and looked up pirate. Here is an excerpt of a couple of things that I found of interest and thought I would share with everyone. Am glad I'm not a pirate as they seem to bang their heads alot and thus is the cause of their brain damage. emoticon But I will let you read for yourself.

"Life as a pirate
1. In the popular modern imagination, pirates of the classical period were rebellious, clever teams who operated outside the restricting bureaucracy of modern life. In reality, many pirates ate poorly, did not become fabulously wealthy, and died young. Unlike traditional Western societies of the time, many pirate clans operated as limited democracies, demanding the right to elect and replace their leaders. The captain of a pirate ship was often a fierce fighter in whom the men could place their trust, rather than a more traditional authority figure sanctioned by an elite.

Brain damage
1. Much of the stereotypical demeanor of 17-18th century seafarers may be in part due to brain damage often due to the vast amounts of alcohol consumed[citation needed]. In the Royal Navy the rum ration (or other spirits such as brandy) was a pint a day and the alcohol content was greater than at present, making this the equivalent of a bottle a day plus eight pints of small beer. Combined with head injuries from running into low bulkheads (which outnumbered battle injuries in the Royal Navy), this had the potential to lead to Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome. Frontal lobe damage could cause a lack of inhibition in speech and behaviour often associated with pirates.[15]
A major reason for such high alcohol consumption was the quality of the food rations. These were not necessarily bad, but were apt to be very bland, especially as the main item would be beef, which would be boiled in a copper vessel as this was less a fire risk than other forms of cooking."

Urinating standing up may be fun because you can direct it to where ever you want to direct it to. BUT urinating standing up does not make you more efficient. The reason being that if you stop to think/look, you will notice that when you urinate standing up, you actually are spraying the urine on the wall. I.E. - when your urine hits the water, little beads of urine bounce out of the toilet and land on the wall. Thus you not only have to clean the toilet, but you have to clean the wall as well.

When a woman urinates she does so sitting down. Thus all of the urine is contained into the toilet. Yes, it does bounce up but it hits the butt, which gets wiped anyway, plus it hits the bottom of the toilet seat, which also gets cleaned anyway.

So in my book, sitting down to urinate seems much more efficient AND financially economical. Would you not agree?

Just wanted to organize the rules into one post for quick reference....

Welcome to the Mother's Day Challenge.

We are going to run this in two teams (Heather' Team and Toby's Team) and really try to make it a group effort. Each group needs to motivate its members to try to get the most participation possible to earn points. Each group will have a thread for this purpose. Points will be averaged for each team if the numbers of members is not equal.

Here are the guidelines for the challenge

EXERCISE - Each member earns 1 point per 30 minutes of exercise to a max of 7 points per week. The Challenge is to get at least 90 minutes per week. Each member that gets at least 90 minutes will get a 3 point bonus. So max exercise points = 10/week.

WATER - Each member will earn one point per day for drinking a min of 8 glasses of water, max 7 points per week. The challenge is to drink 8 glasses of water EVERY day. Each member that does so will get a 3 point bonus. So max water points = 10/week.

WEIGH IN - Each member will earn one point per lb lost per week (only full lbs count) The team that loses the most weight per week will get a 3 point bonus.

INCHES - The team that loses the most inches each week will get a 3 point bonus.

PARTICIPATION - This one is important. Because we are trying to keep motivation high, and the group relies on each member to help earn points, we are going to do the following.
Each week there is a possible 10 points for participation. Each member that does not participate and weigh in on Thursday (post points no later than Friday) will cause the group to lose 1 of those 10 points.
If any member does not participate 2 weeks in a row, they will no longer be part of the challenge.

FINANCIAL GOALS-
Week 1- 4/3-4/10 measure and report points by 4/11
Use up an item in your kitchen that is either leftover, overstock, or near the end of it's shelf life.

Week 2- 4/11-4/17 measure and report points by 4/17
Track your petty expenses for the week (you don't have to report it publicly but track all those small expenses like pop machines, coffee, etc..)

Week 3- 4/18-4/24 measure and report points by 4/24
Have a "buy nothing day" don't buy anything, bring a bag lunch, skip the pop machine, do your grocery shopping the next day, fill up your gas tank the day before, have a day where you don't buy anything.

Week 4- 4/25-5/1 measure and report points by 5/1
Plan what you will do with your rebate/stimulus check, or do something wise with it, if you receive it by then. Tax rebate- if you get a tax return, use that instead, if you get neither score yourself credit for this, since you stick it to the IRS.

Week 5- 5/2-5/8 measure and report points by 5/8
Shop at a farm, a farm stand or a farmer's market to support local farmers. They would probably be open in just about all states by this time of year. Alaska might have issues, but otherwise we should be good. If you live in a place without farmers, farmers markets, or neither is open yet for the season, you may substitute a locally owned store (no franchises, no chain stores, no big companies, just small locally owned store).

On Posting Day…
Each Thursday (Friday at the latest) at weigh in each member will post the following:

1) Lbs lost - remember full lbs only (1pt per pound lost, lose a pt per pound gained)

2) Inches lost from hips (men may substitute, beer belly measurement, if they use this measurement they must use it for the entire challenge), thighs, waist, neck. You don't have to give us the actual measurements if you don’t' want to, just the total inches lost for each. (1pt per FULL inch lost, lose a pt per inch gained)

3) The number of days that you drank 8 glasses of water (1pt per day, 3pt bonus for whole week))

4) The number of exercise minutes that you completed that week (1pt per 30min, 7pt possible base points with 3 bonus points for whole week to total 10 possible points)

5) Financial goal for the week

As a side bet, Heather and I have decided that The losing team captain has to buy spark goodies (costs less than mailing out real goodies) for all the opposing team members each week.

So pick a team and sign on up.

Okay so some clarifications:

-Challenge starts on the 3rd with a weigh-in measurements (you do not have to publicly announce them, you just have to have them as a baseline reference). Note for the drinking water and financial goals it is from Friday to Thursday so Thursday the 3rd is a weigh in day, the actual points start accruing on Friday the 4th.

-Points for inches and pounds are recorded as you pass whole inches or pounds. If you backslide and gain you lose the points you had earned (but you won't go cumulatively under 0. Example if your start weight is 200 lbs, after week one you are 197.5 lbs you record 2 pounds for that week, if after week 2 you are at 195 you record 3 pounds for that week if on week 4 you shot up to 210 lbs you lose the 5 pounds you had counted before.
(anyone on my team that causes us to lose points will have to walk the plank)

Tax rebate- if you get a tax return, use that instead, if you get neither score yourself credit for this, since you stick it to the IRS which is generally cool in pirate high society.

Farmer's market- if you live in a place without farmers, farmers markets, or neither is open yet for the season, you may substitute a locally owned store (no franchises, no chain stores, no big companies, just small locally owned store).

-Heather and her hotties are definitely going to lose under the amazing healthy lifestyles of Toby and the Bargain Buccaneers.

Goals for the next few months:
*5K run challenge
*Bootcamp challenge after July conference
*Add in strength training 3 times a week
*Run the entire 5K & beat my first time
*Organize my house
*Lose 25+ & be down 3 sizes by October

I am curious how the financial goal challenge will work. I have no problems with 3 of them, but the bonus check and the farmers market one will be a problem as I don't make enough for the bonus check an the nearest farmers market is over 30 miles away and I go in that direction MAYBE once a year.

To stop learning is to die inside of myself.

Okay Some IMPORTANT DATES

CHALLENGE STARTS APRIL 3

So on April 3rd, measure to establish the baseline weight and measurements for the next few weeks.

Week 1- 4/3-4/10 measure and report points by 4/11

4/11 Heather...um I mean the losing team captain for the week has to buy the winning team spark goodies.

Financial goal for week 1: Use up an item in your kitchen that is either leftover, overstock, or near the end of it's shelf life.

Week 2- 4/11-4/17 measure and report points by 4/17

4/17 Heather....um I mean the losing team captain (points for week 2 only) gets to buy my team spark goodies.

Financial goal for week 2: track your petty expenses for the week (you don't have to report it publicly but track all those small expenses like pop machines, coffee, etc..)

Week 3- 4/18-4/24 measure and report points by 4/24

4/24 Heather....um I mean the losing team captain (points for week 3 only) gets to buy my team spark goodies.

Financial goal for week 3: Have a "buy nothing day" don't buy anything, bring a bag lunch, skip the pop machine, do your grocery shopping the next day, fill up your gas tank the day before, have a day where you don't buy anything.

Week 4- 4/25-5/1 measure and report points by 5/1

5/1 Heather....um I mean the losing team captain (points for week 4 only) gets to buy my team spark goodies.

Financial goal for week 4: either plan what you will do with your rebate/stimulus check, or do something wise with it, if you receive it by then.

Week 5- 5/2-5/8 measure and report points by 5/8

5/8 Heather....um I mean the losing team captain (points for week 5 only) gets to buy my team spark goodies.

Week 5 financial goal: shop at either a farm, a farm stand or a farmer's market to support local farmers. They would probably be open in just about all states by this time of year. Alaska might have issues, but otherwise we should be good.

5/9 The totaling of the final points and Toby's Team can be declared the ultimate winners with Heather bankrupting her spark points buying us massive prizes and trophies.

These are the important dates and the financial goals.

How about a bonus financial goal of wisely using our tax rebate OR our stimulus check??

Maybe a week where we support our local farmers by eating all fresh produce (late in the challenge).

Thats all the ideas I have right now, I am pretty good financially so sometimes its hard for me to think of some.

"Ok Everyone

Welcome to the Mother's Day Challenge.

We are going to run this in two teams (Heather' Team and Toby's Team)and really try to make it a group effort. Each group needs to motivate its members to try to get the most participation possible to earn points. Each group will have a thread for this purpose.

Here are the guidelines for the challenge

EXERCISE - Each member earns 1 point per 30 minutes of exercise to a max of 7 points per week. The Challenge is to get at least 90 minutes per week. Each member that gets at least 90 minutes will get a 3 point bonus. So max exercise points = 10/week.

WATER - Each member will earn one point per day for drinking a min of 8 glasses of water, max 7 points per week. The challenge is to drink 8 glasses of water EVERY day. Each member that does so will get a 3 point bonus. So max water points = 10/week.

WEIGH IN - Each member will earn one point per lb lost per week (only full lbs count) The team that loses the most weight per week will get a 3 point bonus.

INCHES - The team that loses the most inches each week will get a 3 point bonus.

PARTICIPATION - This one is important. Because we are trying to keep motivation high, and the group relies on each member to help earn points, we are going to do the following.
Each week there is a possible 10 points for participation. Each member that does not participate and weigh in on Thursday will cause the group to lose 1 of those 10 points.
If any member does not participate 2 weeks in a row, they will no longer be part of the challenge.

FINANCIAL GOAL- we will have a 2 point financial goal each week. We will designate these later.

Points will be averaged for each team if the numbers of members is not equal.

Each Thursday at weigh in each member will post the following

Lbs lost - remember full lbs only

inches lost from hips (men may substitute, beer belly measurement, if they use this measurement they must use it for the entire challenge), thighs, waist, neck. You don't have to give us the actual measurements if you dont' want to, just the total inches lost for each.
The number of days that you drank 8 glasses of water
the number of exercise minutes that you completed that week"

When the spring challenge ends we will start this. We will have three threads, one for posting points, one for Heather's Team, and one for Toby's Team.

As a side bet, Heather and I have decided that The losing team captain has to buy spark goodies (costs less than mailing out real goodies) for all the opposing team members each week.

So pick a team and sign on up.
