Okay I dropped the ball on this one, so here is my totals for the weeks.

week 3
water:7
exercise: 4
fruit: 7
budget: 10
total for week: 28
running total: 85

week 4
water: 7
exercise: 3
fruit: 7
tax paperwork togather: 0 (I do not have SSNs for my babysitters to finish filing)
total for week: 17
running total 102

week 5
water: 7
exercise: 2
fruits: 7
plan for valentines day: 0 (I will be breaking up with her in the very near future so did not plan at all because it most likely won't happen)
total for week: 16

running total: 118

So this week's task is to figure out what to do with the extra paycheck at the end of feb. I will get those 10 points easily, I will put it all towards paying off a credit card.

So keep up the challenge, and hopefully we finish 2008 strong.

Sounds like the kind of challenge I need! I'll take stock of my fridge/cupboards tomorrow and finish getting the tax paperwork together!
Drank 10 glasses of water today, got 9 servings of fruits and veggies, and did a 60 minute weight training class.

I did this a little late, but I cleaned out my kitchen. I cleaned my cupboards out and wiped them down and found things I totally forgotten about so now its time to plan some meals with them.

I think I will be starting this challenge as well. Although I haven't gotten either one of my W2's yet, I have recieved student loan paperwork staing that I deducted the interest I've paid on my loan on my taxes. So if any of you have student loans and didn't know that, now you do!

Sincerely

So far I have:
1) 10 glasses of water: 2 pts
2) 3 f/v servings: 3 pts
3) 15 min exercise: 9 pts (unless I can count 30 min as 2 points, then it's doubled plus 2 ;-)

Total PTS: 14

Okay, picking up form just this point. I get paid today, so it's a great day to go over my budget. And also i just spoke to my student loan folks who have informed me that I owe them $200/month for the rest of my life. So, I need to do some adjusting.

Figured out what the weekly task for week 6 (2/4-2/11)

Decide on what you are going to do with the extra paycheck in February.

Since it is a leap year and the leap day falls on a friday, and that friday is a pay day for me, it would be nice to figure out what to do with the extra money.

By my calculations this only happens once every 56 years. (once every 4 years X 7 days in a week X 2 because I get paid bi-weekly). So I get three paychecks in February.

It is a good habit to think about what to do when you get a third paycheck in the month. Most people get paid 2 times each month.

So the 6th weekly challenge is to decide what you are going to do with the extra paycheck in February. If you do not get an extra check in Feb. (like you get paid monthly) you can just get the 10 points without a problem.

Good Luck

My week 2

Since heather had a holiday budgeting challenge last month I have a great record of my holiday budget.

Expenses and what I spent it on.
Marie spent $65 (babyalive doll, pajamas, slippers, diapers for baby alive, robe, and refil) so over by $5
Elise spent $49 (art easel, paints, pajamas, and cozy bathrobe, slippers) so have $11 left
Toby spent $51 (air hockey table, over budget, but shorting J below) so have $2 left
George and Gladys, spent nothing on them yet so have $20 left Burned George and Gladys, They get nothing, I had to get two gifts for the new girlfriend's kids so spent $24 so over budget by $4.
J spent $17 moved the extra $3 to Toby to cover the overbudget on air hockey table. So $0 left.
Stocking Stuffers spent $5 (two sets of soccer shin guards for the girls) so have $15 left, cocoa mug for $3, candy for $8 so have $4 left
Holiday baking spent it all (chocolate for peanut butter balls $15, and a bag of pretzels for dipping for another $3). so $0 left
Bought cheeseballs $5.50, so over budget by .50
Bought box of candy for girlfriend's mother $3

So grand total: $4.50 under budget

So I get 10 points for the task.
exercise 4 days for 4 points
water: I drown myself this week so 7 points
Veggies: 7 points
weekly total of 28 points

week 3 task:

So the 10 point task for week 3 is make-up or adjust your budget.

Simply look at your bills, income and expenses and come up with a budget. You can do it weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly whatever works in your household.

You could do it in a spreadsheet, on paper, on a chalkboard, on a dry erase board, or paint a wall in your house. (someday, I am going to paint a wall in my house as a big monthly calendar, and tape up appointments and such.)

The key point is to think about your finances and prepare.

So go ahead and plan a bit and get 10 points.

I'll be getting caught up, too. I was at 11 points. So now I ate fruits and veggies all week so far. 3 more points. I exercised all 3 days so far. 3 more points. Didn't drink 10 glasses of water. So I'm at 17 points so far. I will get going with the other things this weekend.

Week 2:
Holiday Hangover Task 1/7-13
Okay so you survived the holidays, the leftovers are either frozen or tossed by now, the wrapping paper cleaned up, toys assembled, returns done, you feel a bit worn out from the holidays and have to face the music, take an accounting of your holiday season.
This week open the credit card statements, bank statements, and receipts. Did you go over budget a bit, not at all, or A LOT!
Right now is a good time to do a good accounting and see where you can improve for next year.
So look at how much you spent, is the enjoyment you got from your purchases relative with the amount spent, what would you do differently next year? This is the time to face the music and deal with it. Next week you can figure out if you need to adjust your budget to account for the holidays.

Good Luck and keep up with the water, veggies and exercise.

Here is my weekly update for Week 1:

Current points for Tobobear:
Week 1:
7 days
Three fruits and veggies every day: 7 points
Drank the water: 7 points
Exercise M-F: 5 points
Take stock: 10 points
Some interesting things I realized I had when I took stock:
1 gift card to Gordmans for $26.21
1 gift card to Gordmans for $10.00 which expires on 1/20/08
2 free movie passes that expire on 1/31/08
1 free movie rental at blockbuster that expires on 1/31/08
8 free movie rental coupons at HollyWood Video
1 Free coffee completed punchcard for Dinaís
1 Free Haircut punchcard for Fantastic Samís
Mailed in one rebate for a free movie pass.
No Christmas Returns (YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
We had given away the christmas cookies, candies, and other leftovers with the exception of about 6 lbs of turkey meat from the turkey we ate on Christmas day. So I have no leftovers to deal with.
My refrigerator and cupboards have some odd things I had forgotten about, declared dead, overstocked, and/or have to use soon: 4 pounds of chocolate chips, 9 pounds of Gnocchi (I thought I only had 3), 2 pounds of vanilla almond bark, the pint of humus is going to the compost pile to become humus, 3 boxes of fruit loops, 4 pumpkins, Three delicata squash, two spaghetti squash, 7 daikon radishes from my garden, the sweet potatoes have given up the ghost, 1 box of pound cake mix, Iím almost out of peanut butter, 2 lemon bar mixes, 2 boxes of yellow cake mix (which turned out to be good since my gf wanted a yellow cake with milk chocolate frosting for her birthday), 2 jars of salsa, and a 5 lb bag of flour. These are things that I was surprised by, I usually keep rough track of what I have at home, but I seem to be overstocked on these things and/or they are nearing the end of their shelf life. I only noted the unusual stuff, the stuff that I use regularly and rotates quickly is not noted, I have a lot more in my cupboards than listed above.
Now I can plan to buy more peanut butter and to use the rest up.

So my PTD: 29

Since you are traveling an extension would be in order.

The goal is to get a good idea of what is in your house so that you don't have to find some really funky stuff months from now and/or avoid finding an expired gift card.

So good luck and get started on the organization when you get back.

I'm in. Here is what I did today:
10 glasses of water
3-4 servings of fruits/vegetables
90 minutes of exercise

I get all 3 points for today. All my gift cards are at home so I can't do anything about this till next week. Could I possibly get my points next week since I can't take inventory of my fridge till I get home? We don't arrive home till the evening of the 6th, but I can do it Monday the 7th. Thanks for a fantastic challenge!!!

2008 New Year, New Challenge
A new year is here, time to capitalize on our successes and build for the future.
The points donít count for spark points but do give us motivation and bragging rights.
So there will be two parts to the challenge a daily portion of three activities that help us to achieve our health goals and a weekly financial task.
The daily goals are:
1.) Drink 10 glasses of water
2.) Get 3 servings of fruits and/or vegetables at three different times of the day (meals and snacks).
3.) Exercise at least 15 minutes (aerobic or strength training)
Each day you meet a goal you get a point, so meet all three get three points per day.
Each week there will be a new task to help you shape up your finances, and if you accomplish the task by the end of the week give yourself 10 points.
So each week you can earn up to 31 points (3 points a day for the three daily goals and 10 points for the weekly goal.)
Post weekly for your points for the week.
So the first weekly goal for 1/1-1/6 is to TAKE STOCK
This entails 4 parts (maybe you donít have to do all of them, if you have already done these you can gain the points also).
1-Go through and make an inventory of all the gift cards you have and how much on each. Remember 10-15% of the value on gift cards are never redeemed making this percentage pure profit for the stores, donít let this happen to you.
2-Fill out and mail in all those rebate forms, what was a really good deal with a rebate, might not be if you donít send it in.
3-Take care of christmas returns.
4-Make an inventory of your refrigerator and cupboards. Really look at everything in your kitchen toss out old stuff and figure out what to do with what is there. The reasoning behind this is that many of us pick up so much leftovers and stuff you bought for holiday cooking but didnít use, so that you can make a plan on how to use it.
So if you accomplish these four holiday tasks by 1/6 (even if you have already done them) you get the 10 points.
Previews of weekly goals (details will follow each week, if you accomplish these goals before the week assigned, you get the points).
Week 1- 1/1-1/6 TAKE STOCK: Organize the Gift Cards, take care of returns, and/or file rebates.
Week 2- 1/7-1/13 WAKE UP FROM THE HOLIDAY HANGOVER, open the credit card statements and make a real accounting of your holidays. This actually refers to the financial hangover of credit card headaches.
Week 3 1/14-1/20 BUDGET: Produce a monthly or annual budget, many of you already do this so just adjust as necessary.
Week 4 1/21-1/27 GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER: Get your tax paperwork togather, most should receive W-2s by now so you can organize them in one location.
Week 5 1/28-2/3 PLAN FOR SOME LOVE: Plan out what you are going to do for Valentineís day. This can be a pretty expensive holiday if you donít plan ahead.
Week 6 2/4-2/10 Not sure what would be a season related task for this week.
Week 7 2/11-2/18 CELEBRATE: Celebrate Valentines day as you wish and get ready for the next challenge.

Good Luck
