2008 New Year, New Challenge
A new year is here, time to capitalize on our successes and build for the future.
The points donít count for spark points but do give us motivation and bragging rights.
So there will be two parts to the challenge a daily portion of three activities that help us to achieve our health goals and a weekly financial task.
The daily goals are:
1.) Drink 10 glasses of water
2.) Get 3 servings of fruits and/or vegetables at three different times of the day (meals and snacks).
3.) Exercise at least 15 minutes (aerobic or strength training)
Each day you meet a goal you get a point, so meet all three get three points per day.
Each week there will be a new task to help you shape up your finances, and if you accomplish the task by the end of the week give yourself 10 points.
So each week you can earn up to 31 points (3 points a day for the three daily goals and 10 points for the weekly goal.)
Post weekly for your points for the week.
So the first weekly goal for 1/1-1/6 is to TAKE STOCK
This entails 4 parts (maybe you donít have to do all of them, if you have already done these you can gain the points also).
1-Go through and make an inventory of all the gift cards you have and how much on each. Remember 10-15% of the value on gift cards are never redeemed making this percentage pure profit for the stores, donít let this happen to you.
2-Fill out and mail in all those rebate forms, what was a really good deal with a rebate, might not be if you donít send it in.
3-Take care of christmas returns.
4-Make an inventory of your refrigerator and cupboards. Really look at everything in your kitchen toss out old stuff and figure out what to do with what is there. The reasoning behind this is that many of us pick up so much leftovers and stuff you bought for holiday cooking but didnít use, so that you can make a plan on how to use it.
So if you accomplish these four holiday tasks by 1/6 (even if you have already done them) you get the 10 points.
Previews of weekly goals (details will follow each week, if you accomplish these goals before the week assigned, you get the points).
Week 1- 1/1-1/6 TAKE STOCK: Organize the Gift Cards, take care of returns, and/or file rebates.
Week 2- 1/7-1/13 WAKE UP FROM THE HOLIDAY HANGOVER, open the credit card statements and make a real accounting of your holidays. This actually refers to the financial hangover of credit card headaches.
Week 3 1/14-1/20 BUDGET: Produce a monthly or annual budget, many of you already do this so just adjust as necessary.
Week 4 1/21-1/27 GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER: Get your tax paperwork togather, most should receive W-2s by now so you can organize them in one location.
Week 5 1/28-2/3 PLAN FOR SOME LOVE: Plan out what you are going to do for Valentineís day. This can be a pretty expensive holiday if you donít plan ahead.
Week 6 2/4-2/10 Not sure what would be a season related task for this week.
Week 7 2/11-2/18 CELEBRATE: Celebrate Valentines day as you wish and get ready for the next challenge.
"You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take."
"Do one thing everyday that scares you."
