Yeah, so, I thought I'd seen all of CoE; however, before Miracle Day came out, I saw there was going to be a CoE marathon, so I recorded it. Evidently, my education was sadly lacking. I had no idea there were...what...5 episodes? I think I only saw about 2 (no wonder I didn't think there was resolution).
While I've always enjoyed Torchwood (no comparison to DW), I've never been so involved with the characters as I was during this special. Holy crap! Well acted, and what a weight Jack must carry. He's one of the people who must do the impossible with compassion and love. Each episode got darker and darker in CoE, and I felt like I was jumping down the rabbit hole. I was on the edge of my seat. A few times I realized my eyes were stuck wide open. lol
Spoiler alert! Some of the most powerful performances of these characters. And Peter Capaldi's (the new Doctor) character was both horrid and tragic. What a decision! Somehow, I didn't see it coming until he was walking up the steps in his home. As tough a decision as Jack's to kill his own grandson.
It was well acted and mostly well written, and I don't mind dark... but it seemed like it was all loss with no real sense of hope in any of it. I'm finding it hard to see how they're continuing the series after it, frankly. For me it feels like some of the life has been sucked out of the idea - and, of course, the life has *literally* been sucked out of Torchwood. No offense to the Gwen fans, but when she's all that's left... it doesn't do a lot for me.

SPOILERS: God I hope that is assumed on this thread.
Same here. I just watched it for the first time a few weeks ago. I was so incredibly surprised over Jack's sacrifice of his grandson. I thought that was a little too much for me to handle. The mom's reaction...man. Absolutely haunted me.
