We didn't have car hops over here in Australia, but I do remember burgers being brought to you at the drive in.
It's such a shame that hamburgers have gone the way of everything else and now taste like little plastic hockey pucks. We still have an old fashioned burger place where I do the shopping. None of this ready to eat rubbish, if you are going to eat a real burger you have to wait for it to cook. I don't have them very often but when I do I savour the flavour

A restaurant called "Manners" served them with car hops bringing them to you car, back in the late 50's early 60's, put a tray on your window and you and your date sat in the car and had your meal. A fun time.
If families came, tray was put on drivers window and back window.
this can be used on any burger/pattie I imagine it will even be great on veggie or bean burgers.
