We didn't have car hops over here in Australia, but I do remember burgers being brought to you at the drive in.

It's such a shame that hamburgers have gone the way of everything else and now taste like little plastic hockey pucks. We still have an old fashioned burger place where I do the shopping. None of this ready to eat rubbish, if you are going to eat a real burger you have to wait for it to cook. I don't have them very often but when I do I savour the flavour

A restaurant called "Manners" served them with car hops bringing them to you car, back in the late 50's early 60's, put a tray on your window and you and your date sat in the car and had your meal. A fun time.

If families came, tray was put on drivers window and back window.

this can be used on any burger/pattie I imagine it will even be great on veggie or bean burgers.

I live in the EST, posted for need of challenge leaders.

Ohio is the state I was born in, raised in, and lived in all my life!

One of our members (AuntB) wrote a blog on her memories and love for Big Boy Burgers...
As you know, they are almost out of existence....and getting the bottled seasoning is getting harder.

Here are 2 recipes for the seasoning they put on their burgers...

BIG BOY SEASONING SALT

Makes 5 to 6 tablespoons

2 tablespoons celery salt
2 teaspoons paprika
11/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon monosodium glutamate
1 teaspoon curry powder
1 1/4 teaspoons onion powder
1/2 teaspoon ground thyme
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
2 teaspoons dried parsley flakes

Combine all ingredients; mix well. Store in cool, dry place.

SEASONING SALT FROM BIG BOY

Makes about 1 3/4 cups

2 teaspoons dry mustard
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons dry sweet red bell pepper flakes (see note)
11/4 cups table salt (Diamond Crystal brand preferred)
2 teaspoons onion salt
1 tablespoon celery salt
2 teaspoons garlic salt
1 tablespoon paprika
2 tablespoons black pepper
1 teaspoon dried, grated lemon peel
1 teaspoon dry parsley flakes

Combine all ingredients and mix well with a fork. Using a funnel, pour mixture into a shaker container. Keep in a cool dry place and used as needed. Keeps about 3 months.

Note: One tablespoon McCormick Salad Supreme Seasoning can be substituted for the dry sweet red bell pepper flakes if you can't find them.
