I was injured 40 years ago, and osteoarthritis set in. I was also diagnosed to be in a wheelchair by the time I was 45! I'm 62 now. I promise you that getting rid of the weight, moderate exercise especially cardio, and strength training will help tremendously. I would definitely talk to my doctor first about where to start. I learned here that the worse thing you can do is not exercise and 2/3s of all those suffering have an exercise program!
If you wear a pedometer, you will find how easy it is to walk 2-4 miles a day.

I'm up for that, If I can't get to the gym or walk outside, I could always pop a Walk Away the Pounds 2 mile walk. That would definitely take me to the next level!

Hey can we use this for the July challenge!?

Walk, run, eliptical, bike,stationary bike, or whatever for 2-4 miles or comparable a day? (1/2 hour +)

Let me know what you think!

Hi, SLOLLIE. I also have arthritis, in both knees, my right hip, and both of my feet. It bothers me most on the tops of my feet. I wasn't sure what was causing the pain a few months ago and made an appointment with a podiatrist. He said it was osteo arthritis. He recommended I use inserts in my sneakers, the 3/4 inserts. I bought one's that are specifically for arthritis (I believe they were Scholl's and I picked them up at my grocery store). They really helped. I don't especially like wearing them because my sneakers fit differently. The next time I buy a good pair, I'll take a new pair of insoles with me because they make all of the difference in the world for me. I also use Bengay or Biofreeze when I get to feeling aches. It's temporary relief and it really helps. I try to minimize the amount of walking on hard surface (like this morning I just went a mile with my pooch). I find it works better walking on the indoor track at my Y, or using an elliptical or recumbent bike. I've also noticed since I've been exercising, I don't have as much pain if stay with less impact activities.

Really I enjoy exercising but I have an early stage of arthritis. So it is painful after walking long distances. I want to do this, but can I have a team member in the area. emoticon
