Blood pressure 78/50 before gym class, waited 15 minutes before allowed to exercise with blood pressure 100/70. I had Gatorade & added a tsp. of salt to it before the class.See internal medicine Dr. Tuesday

Today drank 1/2 bottle of Gatorade 30 minutes before exercise and blood pressure 122/68 and after 60 minutes exercise 118/65, my body needs the potassium,salt,sugar and fluids everyone uses during exercise. During & after the class I drink water. I need to update my menu to add more fat & salt to it,this is the habit I need to change !

Need more cholesterol,more healthy fat,more salt and less exercise to raise blood pressure to 120/80 and prevent heart attack or stroke during exercise as it does not go up during exercise, so the heart is trying hard to work but not getting anywhere. This is hard on your organs and your brain. How's that for a prescription!!! Had heart health tests at pharmacy today.

Saturday afternoon I walked to & from the grocery store, 1.5 hours with shopping after my head pain stopped. I feel better now.

Friday walked to the hospital after hitting my head on the corner of my dresser. It bled for 5 minutes. I was at the hospital almost 5 hours, they gave me 3 shots in the top of my head and stitched it. The stitches come out in 10 days.

I planned my new menu at 1,600 calories for 7 days, now I should start to lose some weight, after Spark People raising it by 200 calories 2 months a go. I can now track my food correctly daily.

Spark People raised my lowest & highest calorie ranges by 200. 2 months a go. 3/4 of weight loss was before Spark People. I asked them when I started to not change it with exercise, instead they raised the daily amount so the minimum is 200 more calories. This is why I started gaining back some of the weight I lost. No one can weigh over 40 pounds less and start eating 200 calories more a day and not gain weight. Now I will make sure that my diet is back to 1,600 calories with planning my own menus on this site. I finally found out why my weight is going up. My new menu starts today! 1,600 is the maximum I was allowed before on Spark, with this amount I do not have to change it with exercise.

Sunday and Monday are nice Sunny days for walking. Monday is family day so I can rest a little.
I have to get my menu tracked and printed out for my gym instructor Wednesday. He wants the past 10 days done. We are all getting sent to a hospital dietitian, it is free through our basic government medical, as he found out he is now qualified the same as a Dr. is, to do it. It will be a while till I get in to the hospital.

Well I had totally forgotten about this thread, but I see it is active again, so I am going to give it a whirl. First thing I have done is order the book from the library again - Making HABITS, Breaking HABITS by Jeremy Dean.

Then I have to think about the habit to change thus month. Not eating too much is too vague. I will have to think about it and report back here.

I need to change my habit of spending way too much time on the computer AND I need to be getting up sooner so as Irene, Walking Woman suggested way at the beginning of this thread I am going to get up earlier AND once I am up I will have breakfast, enter that on the Nutrition Tracker and then head off to the gym. Sounds like a lovely plan, wish me luck! (Lin it looks like you are the only one holding this thread up so please wish me luck!!)

I have now got it planned from Feb.2-Feb.5 and will be doing it for another 5 days tomorrow as I shop for 7 days on Friday.

I think I will meet my goal of 3,000 minutes.
I met my exercise goal over 3,600 minutes for December. emoticon

My fitness instructor today told the class to set 2 S.M.A.R.T. goals for January 1. Regarding losing weight he said to set a goal of losing 10 pounds by May 21,2017,"20 weeks" or 1/2 pound a week. Of course if my goal is reached before then that is good also.
My 2nd goal is to exercise 500 minutes per week. Most weeks I do more, if not my goal will still be met!!
I have exercised almost 2,500 minutes this month!!

This goal equals 2,144 minutes of exercise for January,2017.
The weight loss goal is a little more then 2 pounds a month starting January 2,017,more I hope.

My challenge for November is to lose 4 pounds.

Nov.1 ,143 pounds
Nov.8 ,141.7 pounds
Nov.15 ,141.0 pounds
Nov.22 ,141.0 pounds
Nov.30 ,140.0 pounds

I lost 3 pounds

Those are good ideas Irene...I am a visual eater too and think I'll use the one about putting a napkin on top of my plate when I'm finished eating......that would work especially well putting it over my grand kids food plates...I am always tempted to eat their leftovers....and I also like the one about tieing two habits together....have to see what I can do there....have a great day all.....

So I finished the book, and the message is the same, it is much harder to change habits than we thought. But not impossible!

So with eating, two things seem to help the most - making one small change, but sticking to it. I think of my mother, who over a number of years lost 100 lbs - what she started doing was when she ate, and didn't feel hungry any more, she covered the left over food with a napkin. (like me, she is a visual eater.)

The other thing is keeping a food journal. I think that recording your food on spark does that too. But what I am doing this month is writing everything down in a food journal. It makes you more mindful of what you are eating.

The other bit of advice is - tie the habit change to something else that you regularly do. So you are doing, if this, then that...... Maybe like, if after dinner each night you clean up the kitchen - you could make it - I clean up the kitchen AND THEN I go out for a walk (or do some other kind of exercise.). It doesn't have to be that, but apparently, tieing the habit to something else is what makes it more likely to persist as a habit.

So, I hope that this helps.

Looking forward to your input from that book, Irene. Its sure true that we pick up on phrases like the "21 days to break a habit" idea and then beat ourselves up about it when we don't make it work for us. Pretty sure I did that yesterday! I know, got to stop that.

Hmm, lots of talk about getting going with healthy habits here. Time for me to get on the bandwagon too. Maybe I need to track. I am doing better with exercise.

Meanwhile, here is my news - we need to stop beating ourselves up about our failures. Seriously. I am reading a very good book right now called "Making Habits, Breaking Habits: why we do things, why we don't and how to make any change stick."

I have just started it, so I haven't got to the "how to make any change stick" part yet - but the author is talking about how deeply ingrained habits are, and how they aren't easy to change. And how this whole 'it takes 21 days to change a habit idea is a lot of hooey. Anyway, I am really enjoying this book, and if I get any good ideas from it, I will report them to you.

I know exactly how you feel, AJ. I took the past little while off from worrying about what I'm eating and I feel much better about it now. I'm ready to start again. I think we all need a little break like that every once in a while - sort of like a vacation from weight loss...

Good luck Val. I am discouraged by my many failures these last few months. I think I will take June to re-tune my goals and plan for back-to-fitness. Someone here was working on a collage for that purpose but I can't remember who. Just wondering how that worked for them. Might be something I could try. My discipline and mind-set need recalibrating! emoticon

It's been awhile since I've posted on this too....and for Jun I'm going to starting walking....need to make this a priority and no more excuses....at least 15 minutes a day...3 days a week.....will see how it goes.....

Hi, it's been a while since I've been here so I thought I'd see how you're all doing with your monthly habit changes. I even decided - just this moment, actually, that I am going to start tracking again as well as do at least 15 minutes of exercise every day. I just got tired of being so heavy and feeling out of shape when I try to do anything. I'll see how it goes...

Hi, there. It's been quite a while since I posted here so I thought I'd drop by for a bit. For the month of May, I've started playing on my Wii again. Every couple of days, I go down and play a few games on Sports Resort (Bowling, 3-pin basketball, Frisbee golf, to name a few of them). I've even got Evan coming down to play some of them! I also have Just Dance 4, which I really like, so I've been dancing a little as well - but those are by myself as Evan won't do them with me. LOL

I see you're all doing well. That's good.

I am keeping up with the eating tracking. It helps me moderate my behavior. And it worked this week. Down 2 lbs! Now I just have to keep going in this direction - and not have it be a yoyo.

I'm inspired by all of you ladies. I've not been making any progress lately and I need to change that. I've been reading about mindful eating and have decided that will be my May goal. Too often I eat without paying any attention, at least until after the fact. For May, I am going to plan meals and eat mindfully.
