The Ale House uses all local produce and beef and you can always ask for dressings and sauces on the side and not eat the bun, etc. They have lots of great seasonal veggie dishes too.

My favorites back in college:
--a chili at Wendy's and a cheddar bagel from Manhatten Bagel that was right next store--healthy lunch/dinner for $1.50 when I was working in the CAC labs in Hammond Building
--subs at McClanahan's--$2.50 for a sub with good quality lean turkey, veggies, and mustard
--That's A Wrap (no longer there)

Healthy in State College is tough, isn't it?

Some options that I have found: Fiddlehead, on College near Irvings and Herwig's, is an excellent make-your-own salad place. A tad pricey ($8-10) but you get a giant salad that can be as healthy (or unhealthy) as you want it. If you are looking for low carb options Z-Bar/The Deli has an excellent Bunless Burger plate where the patty comes out on a nice bed of lettuce. And Irving's has a decent selection of salads, smoothies, and fruit cup type things that are relatively easy to grab and go.

Boy that's not much of a list, lol. I mostly just hit the farmer's market and cook for myself. :)

I don't know about the rest of you, but every time I make my pilgrimage to State College (about 4 times a year, once per season), I have a really difficult time finding places to eat that aren't going to break the calorie bank. So far the only thing I've found is Mamma Mia's pizza on College Ave- and the only reason they are good is because I know the chef and he'll make me something without using the fryer! I wish there was something easy AND healthy!
