That article touched on some of my go-to food choices. I learned how "cheap" foods could be good meals shortly after DH and I bought our first house--when you only have $20 left in the bank you become extremely grateful for canned beans and frozen veggies. Although the rice was white back then and the chicken was usually thighs and legs.....
Even more expensive ingredients can be considered money savers--if you use them to replace deli lunches and take-out dinners. I have a great deal more discretionary income to play with than I had at this time last year.
